Buying a video card

I have a dell optiplex 980 small format. I have 8 GB of ram and an i5 3.2 GHz processor. I want to put a video card. I do not play modern games like call of duty. I play the old games like age of empires or games that do not require a lot of video power. What is compatible with my computer? I'm looking to spend around 50 if possible. I was looking at the ATI Radeon HD 5450 on eBay that was $50. What this map? Nothing better for the same price?

The 5450 isn't a good choice for the games. You want at least a 6570 for this, preferably a 7750.

I saw the specifications of your computer.  He has only two PCI Express X 16 slots for video cards. one is available.  There are three ways that you can go: 1) buy another video card to fill the vacant unit 2) buy a USB video adapter or 3) buy a nVidia Quadro or another workstation that supports multiple video cards.

You should make sure that the power supply unit (PSU) has enough power to run two or more cards.

  • Upgrading my video card

Good then I want to update my video card in my current one... don't know exactly how I would have this approach. I don't want to just go and ask retailers initially that they could sell me something that is overpriced and not that great. Don't know what type of video card I want, but I will provide a few details end my computer and we can go from there.
    I have an AMD athlon II 2 250 processor processor - 2 X ~ 3.0 GHz
    Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit)

    Integrated RAMDAC

Don't know what else I would need to provide before I can even go ahead and think about buying a video card. Oh, I'm willing to spend more than $ 150 too if I need too. 200 would be to much but if I mean play Crysis (which is an old game now lol) and the only way I can is with a $ 200 card so that I don't really have a choice, I guess. I was trying to play the Chronicles of riddick and I saw my system not handling not really the game that well and it's an old game now that made me think I would def need a new video card.

If you're a gamer?  Crysis is a cpu eater. However, a better video would be really useful, but to support a better video card will require a replacement of power supply.  Max 600 watts should be plenty.

Review the specifications of performance ATI and NVIDIA . Look at the specifications of strip memory bandwidth and level of DirectX support.

How to replace a power supply.

How to replace a video card.

www.Newegg.com has a lot of power and video card blocks.  Choose a modular power supply with a performance rating of 80 + or higher. Try to find one that has the same physical dimensions as your current diet. Then do a measure to the inside of your PC around 16 x PCI-E slotso that you know what size card have to be considered.

  • Pavilion H8 - 1287c: is the Pavilion H8 - compatible video card EVGA GTX 970 1287c

I improved the diet of a CX750 Corsair of the 500W this desktop computer comes with the factory.  I was aware before you buy the video card POWER supply might be a limitation.

With the previous BIOS (7.09) I have tried several things as shown below.  I've always had to a screen where it would beep three times with 10-20 seconds between each beep then it would go to a black screen with a blinking cursor, but you couldn't do anything.

    enabling/disabling the VGA Palette

    toggling SERR # generation

It is a pain to change the bias, I have need to use the original video card, then replace it with the GTX 970 to see if it worked.

I called EVGA and they recommended upgrading the BIOS, so I've updated to 8.21.  When the power nothing happens now.  The LCD even lights.  Secure boot is disabled.

I contacted EVGA, once more and they said I had to contact HP to determine if the computer is compatible with their video card.  This is necessary to receive an RMA number.

    Hello

First, change the BIOS settings that you changed will do more harm than good.  Change these settings back

Remove the graphics card and connect the monitor to the motherboard. Your PC starts with the video? If so, then open the command RUN and enter: MSINFO32

Your PC is running in legacy or mode UEFI?

  • What video card should I go to?

I would like to buy a better graphics card for my office. This is mainly my office of game.

I want to buy a better, but after I watched all the video cards, they are all great for my office, that I have now is just the video card it self with a small fan on top and the is no shell or case to the video card.

    10 GB OF RAM

2 GB AMD Radeon HD 8570

    Windows 8 (64-bit)

    Resolution 1920 x 1080

I want to buy one for games or is there a way I can buy a video card and out the case of the latter (AMD or NIVIDA CARD)

OR is it one can buy by HP for HP Envy H8 for games

    Thank you

    Brandon, welcome to the forum.

When a help request, you must always include the brand / model of the computer or the monitor. This information is necessary for us to review the specifications for them.

The main concern with the video card upgrade is the power supply unit (PSU).  Latest intermediate cards require at least 400W runs correctly.  The video card that came with your computer was most likely manufactured specially for HP working with other OEM components.  Detail of the same model cards may not work with the existing power supply.

Also, I normally recommend buy a card that does not exceed 9 "long.  This ensures that it fits in the space provided for this purpose.  Double a card (covers two slots) is normally not a problem.

  • Multiple monitors: you install a video card in a Paviliion disable the onboard graphics

When you install the video card, the embedded video is disabled.  You can use one or the other.  However, if you buy a video card with two ports, you can use two monitors.  You must make sure that the video card will work correctly 300W of power.  A card that requires 350W should run OK, because manufacturers tend to overstate the power requirements of their cards.

  • Video card help

I have a HP Pavilion p6234f running on windows 7 home premium 64-bit. The vehicle currently has Intel Chipset G33/31 Express version 8.15.10.1912. I'm shopping for a new program for a job that requires a minimum configuration of OpenGL2.1. How do I get there? Thanks for any help

    You are welcome.

It is difficult to buy a video card for older computers.  Manufacturers make the newer cards with VBIOS' are requiring a UEFI BIOS.  HP didn't start to make motherboards with complete UEFI until October 2012.

Here is a card that should work for you.  It won't be good for the games, but it will be better than the integrated video.  It has OpenGL 4.1.  Read the reviews to see what they have to say about it.  If you decide not to buy this card, it is a good example of what you need.  It requires a power supply with a minimum of 400W.  I love Corsair products.  I recommend at least 500W.  This will give you some leeway for peak needs.  Modular power supply offers the choice to only use the cables needed.  This allows for better air circulation.

  • Do not use the Brink game on my computer laptop-message of error: the current video card/driver does not support openGL3.1 or newer.

We have Windows Vista SP2. Does this mean I now have to buy a video card or y at - there a way around this without costing me more money?
    Kind regards

    Hello

I would suggest trying the following methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: make sure the game is compatible with your computer.

Method 2: update the video card driver and check if that helps.

Update a hardware driver that is not working properly: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/Update-a-driver-for-hardware-that-isn ' t-work properly

If both methods fail, you will then need to get a new video card.

    I hope that helps!

  • Video card question

I wanted to buy a video card that s in charge of two monitors, but I don't know which could adapt to these specifications.  Any help would be great.

    Compaq model # SR5505F

    4gm RAM

    Windows Vista 32 bit

    AMD 64 x 2 Dual Core 4200 + 2.2 GHz

Here are the specifications of your Compaq Presario SR5505F desktop and is the card mother M2N68-(Ivy8). According to the specifications of your system has an expansion slot PCIe x 16 for use with a graphics card. Also, the specifications indicate that your system came with a 250 watt power supply, which will eliminate almost all graphics cards retail. Most retail cards require a 300 watts or more power supply. The Corsair CX500 and CX600 are highly recommended and known to adapt in many cases of HP. Please see Guide to Big_Dave for the selection of a discrete video card for more information on the selection of a graphics card.

  • Best video card for Sun 3000?

    Hello

I have a Dell Dimension 3 K, and I would like to buy a video card to improve my game (Warcraft). I know this is an old computer, but I won't be able to upgrade for awhile, so I would twist around where I can for now.

Currently, I run a NVideaGEFORCE 256 (sorry! to work and cannot access my sheet here) model that cost about $ 50 again.

OS = Windows XP with Service Pack 3

The Nvidea is, of course, OEM and my graphics are very good, but since it will be some time before I can upgrade, I would at least enjoy games .

    Thanks for your help!

  • HP Pavilion Slimline s3720f: what video card should I buy?

I want to add a new video card (not too expensive) for my old HP Pavilion Slimline s3720, but I do not know what video card to buy, because there are far too many choices. I know that the new card must be low profile with a half support so it can fit into the currently available in the motherboard slot. I hope that Conect my Dell UltraSharp 1708FP 17-inch LCD flat monitor VGA on this new card to get the best resolution and graphics. Can someone give me a recommendation indicating which card to buy? Please be specific. Thank you.

The slimelines should never require a lot of video.  Your 2008 model circa was Vista.  Updates drivers ended with WIN 7. It's a miracle you got WIN10 without drivers available is another story.  Another factor is the skinny 160W PSU. That limits your options if you have a.  The common consensus is that either.  added heat from a graphics card, the likely additonal to a new power supply really outweighed costs.

  • I presume that the motherboard is the cause of the failure of the video card on my alienware aurora desktop. Where can I buy a motherboard for this system?

HI: Blues ray and dvd drives work. I checked the raid drives, test of redundancy having failed, too bad sectors. I presume that the motherboard is defective in this case for the video card failure. I see some white corrosion around the battery from the motherboard. I put other work disk drives into the slots on the drive. Where can I buy or upgrade the motherboard for this system? Thank you.

The network cable is not shining, which confirms that the motherboard does not work.

  • Can what type of video card I buy to upgrade a Pavilion a1000y? What are the specs?

I upgraded my desktop HP Pavilion to Win7 a1000y and the default value of the monitor is VGA. the resolution is not good for the big screen that I use. I'll try to find the PCI slot specifications and/or specifications of a video card, that I can add to the upgrade of the video to the monitor and does not get distorted image.

I didn't Eve whether this model can use a video card, since he already come with video included in the motherboard, if that makes sense.

Thanks in advance for your help

    See you soon

    AB

The motherboard of your PC has PCI slots. This means that you will need a PCI video card and not the generation of current PCI Express x 16 video cards.

This webage Newegg shows the type of card you need. I recommend that you do not have a card with more than 512 MB RAM video.
