Calculation of density of block

My apllication has the classification of next dimension:
3dense dimensions: having respectively 151,21,5 and stored members 57,13,5 total members
11sparse dimensions: total members 8,6,4,4,10,15,13,7,3,26,3 and stored 8,6,4,4,10,12,11,0,0,0,0 respectively.

Number of existing blocks: 368
Block size is:29640(57*13*5*8) B.
Potential number of Blocks: 1013760(8*6*4*4*10*12*11)
Level 0 blocks existing: 9
Blocks: 359 existing top-level

Block Density (%):.45

Can someone help me to know how you calculate this density block based on the above statistics?

Thanks in advance...

I don't think it's possible to consult the driver data for the calculation of the density of the block directly. I do not think that it has even documented exactly what percentage / blocks how Essbase can enjoy.

You can try to evaluate yourself if you know what your data will look like. For example, if you have 12 months membership stored in your database, and in January, load you only January data, you can predict that the density of your block will be, at most, 8.3%.

But it is impossible to know what density block will be without reference to the data itself.

    Dear all,

Please tell me what is the density of block and how to calculate the value os block density?
How does it effect the block or block size?

    Thanks in advance
    Ousseni

    Hi ousseni,.

Block density is the number of cells in a block that has a percentage value relative to the total number of cells in the block.

Block of density = (number of cells in a block which have a value / total number of cells in the block) x 100

Density of block shows the effectiveness of your dense settings are rare. The largest and its value, more the compression rate. This means that there are only a small number of cells with the missing value.

    I hope this helps.

  • Hyperion Planning block density

    Hi all

Everyone hopes thin id. I just wanted to ask the concept of block density in essbase (which can be seen through the regional service console).

What is the optimal density of block. Currently our block density is of 0.14%. Not sure whether this is good or bad. We have 13 Dimensions altogether.

Thank you is advanced in support.

    Concerning

    MSA

Block density is the percentage of existing data cells filled with data divided by the total number of data cells.  He tells you how densely populated the database is.  A very low number may indicate that you have not specifically identified which dimensions must be rare and should be dense.  It can also help in the determination of the compression method and other options configuration.

The database type that you are creating will make a significant difference

Here are a few statistics of DBs I have that are stable and effective over the last 3 years

    Reports Essbase cubes

    P & L/B/S/cash flow - 7.33%

    Deptmental - 7.25% charges

    Sales - 1.61%

    Planning of the Essbase Cubes

    P & L/B/S/cash flow - 10.46% (MODELING VERY LIGHT)

Loads of Deptmental - 0.15% (HEAVY MODELING

So I would say your 0.14% is not bad if you have a lot of modeling.  May you have a very sparse dim as Dense if it is a simple reporting application.

  • Dimension Sparse and Dense

    Hi all

We have a type of plan, including accounts and products as follows,

    Header 1 Header 2 Header 3 Header 4
    Products\AccountRateQuantityAmount
    P1
    P11
    P12
    P13
    P2
    P21
    P22
    P23

There are about 30 members of the account dimension, while 500 members in the Product dimension

In the account dimension, most like amount calculation = rate * quantity

In the Product dimension, most are the aggregation

Account is generally dense, but this case, we are not sure.

I think dense product do reduce the blocks, but how performance is higher and calculate faster?

    Thank you.

    Best regards

    What you do is

Make a dense dimension, load your data and to check the density of block - this will tell you what size is very dense.

  • As a Time Machine backup, it keeps adding to the size of the backup?

TM starts the backup and starts suddenly to add to the size of the backup, it will do. This means that no player will never be large enough to accommodate the backup because it keeps growing in size (as each block of data is added, the size of the backup continues expansion of the same amount). I have attached 2 screenshots showing what has happened in the minute to restart the backup. TM is backup on an external WD hard drive via the USB-3 port on my MacBook Pro (retina, 15 inches, end of 2013). 1.9 TB of data backup - there should not be a problem because the external hard drive has 3 TB of space and has been freshly formatted before being used for the first backup on this drive. As you can see from the screenshots, the backup is much larger than it should be.

    1 minute later screenshot:

Before this behavior, I have had problems with Time Machine while using another backup drive (a drive LaCie Quadra) with for example, ignored backups, backups landed at calculation time, backups, partially blocked by a backup for more than 36 hours etc., error messages from read-only TM etc... I tried several solutions on this forum and none seem to have corrected these strange behaviors. It felt like I've solved a problem, shortly after another was about to begin.

I stopped finally try the solutions suggested here in the forums, as well as some external sites such as Pondini and chose to use another drive (HD freshly cleared using disk utility - the WD drive that is currently attached to the MBP). The WD external drive worked well on the Mac Pro in the office, and I have no reason to suspect that this is the problem (I ran some tests after erasing it and there is no error reported).

Well, the first symptom that something still was wrong was when backing up to disk WD has slowed to a crawl yesterday afternoon, but I left it on overnight. At noon today the backup was still running, but about ⅔ complete (very, very slowly - running data blocks are moving into very small pieces), but I have to bring the MBP to a meeting and everything stop. Then my back and everything by plugging, TM started upward and all seemed well, until I noticed that the backup data was almost 2.5 to. I restarted the MBP. It's once again, I noticed that Time Machine did not work as I expected. The size of the backup continues to expand... I was expecting TM that she had about 250 GB left to save, but as see you from the screenshots it much much smaller than that. I have let it run like that for about 2 hours, hoping that it was just a small mistake, but the HD continues to fill, only 185 GB of space left. Strangely, I can enter TM and see my data.

    Suggestions please? Very much appreciated.

    Stu

Nobody answered, so I thought I'd share the temporary solution I came up with.

I started in safe mode, deleted the backup external TM drive I was using and launched a full backup with TM (always in safe mode). I leave TM turn all night and a full backup has been completed. I rebooted, entered TM and restore some files to confirm that I was actually able to restore the backup pieces. Since that time, I did have problems with TM make scheduled backups, with one reading errors etc.

I will continue to spend some time to know what triggered these questions... since I was able to make a backup in safe mode, this means that I have other avenues to explore.

I will report back if I find anything.

  • Pavilion dv6: failure of memory, help!

    Hello world

I had some memory problems lately, including many blue screens with 'MEMORY MANAGEMENT' listed as the problem. I ran a test of memory by pressing F10 at startup for the area of memory and the test failed in about 2 seconds after the start. I got the following information:

    Failure ID: RGFTMU-5MN7K3-MFP556-406903

    Product ID: LW260UAR #ABA

According to me, one of my chips of memory is damaged, but I do not know how to access physically to replace. Help, please!

    It's 2 GB 1333 MHZ PC3 - 10600 DDR3 SDRAM SODIMM

You can replace it with a 4 gig of same type and speed. East - another module the same? The only thing you lose by mixing module sizes is operation "dual channel" which is a bit faster and lose would be a compromise to have more RAM.

It would be a like kind replacement:

    http://www.eBay.com/ITM/like/231033893993?lpid=82&CHN=PS

That would be an upgrade to a 4 GB module.

    http://www.eBay.com/ITM/4GB-DDR3-1333-MHz-PC3-10600-single-stick-SODIMM-laptop-notebook-RAM-memory-204p-/361150227991?PT=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item54163b2617

You don't want to try to stay with the same density memory; that is 4 blocks on one side. It's a little unusual for HP high density (4 blocks) RAM in their laptops, it is usually 8 block or low density. That's why I'm asking if the other module is the same.

  • Compaq Presario CQ57-104TU: upgrade Ram, memory (Ram Hynix PC3L-12800)

    Hello world

    I have a Compaq Presario CQ57-104TU. I recently decided to upgrade the ram (currently 1 x 2 GB Elpida PC3 - 10600 1333 Mhz). I bought 2 x 4 Gb Hynix HMT451S6AFR8A, PC3L-12800. Unfortunitely when I install the new Ram (Hynix)

the computer does not start. Is there something I can do or the Ram is not compatible?

    Any help would be appreciated,

    André

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See p.2. Specified memory is DDR3-1333 1.5 volt and you try to install low-voltage DDR3-1600. In addition, memory that you are trying to install is high density, because it has 4 blocks on each side, where I am betting that original memory was of low density (8 blocks). Long story short, it is not compatible. It do you no good to install DDR3-1600 by the way. Best of cases, it will anyway be downclock speed 1333.

  • 15 - af005ax: upgrade request for material

    http://WWW8.HP.com/my/en/products/laptops/product-detail.html?OID=8187199&JumpID=reg_r1002_myen_c-00...

The wonder is that this laptop can support material listed:
    ~ Kingston Hyper x 3 K 240 GB SSD SATA
    ~ Kingston DDR3 SODIMM lv KVR1600

Here's the manual which shows how to install these components:

    Manual

It culminates with 8 GB memory and can accept as a 2.5-inch SATA SSD instead of the standard mechanical hard drive. The installation requires the removal of the back cover, but not the elimination of the motherboard. See page 37 and facing forward.

It uses the memory of DDR3L-1600 which will downclock speed 1333 by the manual. The memory that you mention is 1.35 volts (low voltage) should therefore operate, but the 100% safe thing is to buy the modules specified in the manual. Computers laptops HP are a little finicky and seem to prefer low-density (8 blocks of memory on the side of the chip, not 4).

These upgrades will jeopardize the guarantee but we were given to understand that the warranty will be honoured after the upgrade as long as you don't cause any damage in the process.

So, the simple answer to both your questions is 'yes', but this is Yes with a warning attached. If you have more questions after return.

  • HP Pavilion 15 PC laptop: HP Pavilion 15 memory update

    Hello

I plan to upgrade my laptop HP Pavilion 15 memory PC J2C73PA #UUF.

Is it possible to use the Kingston memory module?

What is the maximum capacity can I install on my laptop?

Can I install modules with 1.5V?

Hope someone can help me with my concerns.

    Thank you

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

All your questions are answered in the manual, except that the manual indicates a maximum of 12 concerts, and it will take up to 16 GB. It only uses the 1600 DDR3L which means 1.35 volts only as long the memory is the same specifications and configuration as the original, yes you can use Kingston memory.  Pay attention to the voltage (1.35) and density (4 blocks of black on the side) or 8. It must match the original or modules.

On page 4 it says that it can take 8 GB.

This is the part number for the official module 8 GB:

It is a low density (8 blocks of memory on the module) DDR3L-1600 1.35 volts SO-DIMM memory.

If that's what you are looking at:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16820231704

It will work, but I fear that the manual says that the max is a single module of 8 GB.  The good thing is that your laptop has an easy access to the ememory Panel so it is quite easy to upgrade.

I like to think 2 x 8 GB will work but can not guarantee it.

  • Data compression

    Hi all

I had the data compression of my cube of planning set to "Bitmap encoding".  However, when I check the compression rate stats is showing as zero.  Is this normal or is there something I'm missing?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards

    Gerd

How to check the compression rate, Gerd you?

EAS only shows the compression rate to two decimal places.  If the density of block is very low, the compression ratio can be rounded to zero.  But if you check with MaxL, you will see a more accurate value.  The command is:

    ask the Sample.Basic database is dbstats data_block;

Of course, this requires that there is actually data in the cube (which can be seen through the block count statistics).

SRM 5.1 with replication of vSphere.

    Thank you, s

    Peter.

    Hello

Integration of VR with DTS on the target site is on the roadmap for future versions.

With the versions currently, including 5.1, you can reconfigure the replication (s) in another data target store, however, this internal stop old replication, delete all the files in the replica in the target data store and configure new replication to the new location of the target.

It could be faster, if you:

    (1) take hard copy since the current target data store (without the hbr-... vmdk redo logs) to the new location.

    (2) stop the existing replication (s).

    (3) configure new replication and orient them on the already copied as initial seed discs.

This will happen again full-synchronization initial, but checksum is calculated on the disk blocks and that changes are transmitted over the network.
