  I recently bought COD 4 Modern warfare, and I tried to download it for 3 days now. I tried the trick of compatibility, and not of stuff and I get the same result. After I put in the product key and the installation begins it stops at halfway in the record of Updating pop up components. No error codes only my dvd does up to a mile a minute nothing else. I have windows 7 home 64 bit. AMD quad core proc and 4 GB of ram. Radeon 1 GB graphics card. Please help because I am at my wits end.

  I had the same problem but the fact as follows:

  Stop installation (Ctrl, Alt, delete) and removed the disc.

  Remove all references to Activision and Call of Duty on my hard drive.

  Restarted my PC.

  Connected to the Internet Browser.

  Inserted the disc.

  At the installation. You will see that it stops at "Update record of components" but ignore it. As long as your DVD is spinning and you can see that your hard drive blinking power on and off, then the game is downloaded. Just be patient as it takes approximately an hour.

  I just got a CM Asus-6730-08 who has windows 8 on it. I played call of duty 1 without any problems on windows 7. I currently have the latest patch installed as well. Now I can only enter the server if I have off downloads and I can't change my name to the unknown player because he filled just with a group of numbers. I tried to update and save this change in the config file for the game that I could before change and change in windows 7 without problem. Windows 8 doesn't let me save my changes in the config file.
