  Issues related to the:
  1.) "suddenly" gives to think that you were able to open the attachments before. Is this true or false?
  2.) you have viewers needed to open the attachments? like PowerPoint Viewer, just to name one.
  (3.) your anti-virus program has electronic sweeping running option? If so, disable it.

  I can't open attachments to emails.   I get the message "Required registry information is missing and this application cannot run.  Please return to the settings and correct the problem.  The program to open the attachments is broken and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled.   I don't have any idea how to solve this problem.

  The error message says that MS Word is not correctly installed and you need to remove a reinstall it. You have MS Word on your computer? If this isn't the case, get this viewer.

  If you do not have Word, you can try this, but if no joy, you may need to remove and reinstall Word.

  Create a file association.

  1. download and save the attachment to the office.
  2. right click on the saved file.
  3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
  4. click on: choose [default] program.
  5. Select: Microsoft Word.
  6. check: always use the selected program to open this type of file.
  7. click on OK.

  Save the attachment to disk.  Then right-click on it and choose open with (or go to properties |) Change) and then designate the good program with which to open the attached file.

  You must have Lotus Word Pro (a very old program, IIRC) installed in order to open this attachment. Since it is unlikely that you have a too old program, you will need to find a modern program that can read the file or that the sender to resend the data in a format more current and current such as MS Word.

  You might see if Lotus Symphony it open, or maybe OpenOffice Writer can do.

  It's strange, but you have installed all updates for your Windows?

  Maybe you need to reinstall the laptop with the Toshiba Recovery disk or you have a virus or something else on your computer. Update your antivirus program and leave virus scanner.

• Vista, IE8, Windows Mail, can not open attachments

  I've been running Vista SP1 with Windows Home Premium and Windows Mail without problems, including handling e-mail attachments.  For safety, I: McAfee Total Protection, Windows Firewall, Zone Alarm and Windows Defender.

  I installed IE8 and liked the convenience features.   It worked well on my machine, but now I can't open e-mail attachments.  Security in Windows Mail by IE8 settings are maintained and are defined to allow attachments.  I uninstalled IE8 and the problem disappeared.  None of my security programs are scoring blocked attachments or otherwise.

  Any suggestions on how to fix this so I can go back to IE8?

  I just got the phone with McAfee.  It seems that IE8 doesn't is NOT supported by McAfee in its current configuration that they still think IE8 beta.  I was informed that when the consumer final version McAfee support and my attachments e-mail won't be a problem.  Too bad at the moment, I liked IE8.

• Can not open says attachment error message "the file doesn't have a program that are associated with."

  Can't open some attachments. Error message says: "File has no program associated with it.       HOW CAN I FIX IT?

  Fix it by installing the application used to create the file or application that can read the file.  For example, if it's a .doc file attached, need you Word, Word Viewer, or OpenOffice installed in order to open the attachment. Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]
