Can't the main Outlook Express identity

I made a mistake and put in place a new identity of thought I changed just names - now I can not get my idenidy main return - when I start outlook it opens into the new identity but "unresponsive" so I can open anything in the toolbar so that I could edit in main identity.  What should I do?

Folders.dbx is probably corrupted in the new identity.

In Windows XP, the files of user OE (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

The path to the message will be very similar to this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User of utilisateur\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\ {long string of letters & numbers} \Microsoft\Outlook Express

With OE closed, find the Folders.dbx file and delete it.  Another will be created automatically when you open OE.

You'll have a record of storage for two identities, but they will be easily identified by the names and sizes of the dbx files.

Have I lost the files of Outlook Express completely or is there a way that I can import them in the same way that e-mail came? My old computer died (power source grilled or something like that). I still have it, but no way to turn it on.

copy the address book Outlook Express for Hotmail - can't get in Outlook Express.

Lately I often can't get into my Outlook email.  I know that I can use Hotmail, but I need my address book. I know that it has to see with the Qwest no longer carring MSN.   Can you tell me how to recover or to carry it?

Thank you, Cookie 303-371-6295 or 303-931-4632

The address book is a file with an extension of wab file.  Search for *.wab and then you can click on it to open it.  You can then go to file | Export | Address book, then save it as a csv file.  To import into Hotmail, as in this case: www.windowslivehelp.com because it is where are the experts of Hotmail.

  • Outlook Express identity Delete

I'm trying to delete an Outlook Express identity. Remove identity button will not highlight when I try to delete the identity. How can I get the button work? If this function does not work is their way of any other I can delete the identity.

    Hi kwjacq1,

To delete an identity in Outlook Express, you must have already created secondary identity. In addition, you must also be logged on the second account to be able to remove the main account.
    Try the following:
    1. Of in Outlook Express, open the file menu, point to identities, click manage identities , and then click new.
    2. In the type your name box, type a name for the identity parameter.
    3. Click OK. Click Yes to the pop up to switch to the new identity now.
    4. Now open the windows to manage identity (step 1) again, select your old account and click on delete.
This, of course, will remove anything within this identity, including emails and address book contacts.
You can learn more about the management of identities on the following Web site:

For some reason, I can't get my Outlook Express to send my emails... they do not connect or send failed... what I am doing wrong to cause this... I have used Outlook Express in the past and had no problem with it... Also, how can I know what e-mail programs POP3 or request the program Outlook Express? Could you please clarify this for me, thanks...

I use Windows Live Mail as my regular e-mail address... but I can use a different e-mail to another e-mail program to configure Outlook Express?

Visit the website of your email provider and see if they have instructions to set up an account in Outlook Express.  They provide you with the appropriate settings.   Nobody here knows them, because they are specific to the e-mail provider.  So check with your provider of messaging on the correct settings to use for OE.

Any window that you want to resize all the time must be the last closed window.

Take the corners of the window and drag it to the format full screen. Do not use to expand. Close all other windows first via the taskbar and the latter. Windows will remember the size of the last closed window the next time that you open the program.

  • I can't find my outlook express address book after you migrate successfully from the old computer. The "Address book" tab shows that local address book empty.

I move from a Windows XP computer to a Windows 7 computer. My old computer has Outlook Express. I've migrated successfully my emails and messages archived in Thunderbird on the new computer. I also migrated the Outlook Express address book using an external hard drive, but I was not able to understand how to find the Outlook Express address book in Thunderbird. The only way that I could find the Outlook Express address book, is to go to 'tools' and 'import' and then import the Outlook Express address book. When I do this, the Outlook Express address book features, duplicate entries (because I imported twice now). When the Outlook Express address book shows, it works without problems and I can use it to send emails. But once I close the Outlook Express address book, I can't find him. Other messages, I see that the "Address book" tab in Thunderbird should open a window containing a list of available on the left side address books. But this window in my computer does not display a list of address books. There is just a blank window for the address book personal (it has no contacts inside) and there is nothing on the left side.

in the display (alt + V) address book menu > layout > directory pane.

Had problems with Outlook Express.  When I send a mail, I get an error message indicating the e-mail was sent not.  The e-mail has been sent, but it never leaves the output area.  I have to go and delete the e-mail.  Then I don't have a folder of e-mails, except in my deleted file.
    Any help would be appreciated.

You have apparent dbx file corruption.

Spend most of your messages out of the Inbox and then create new folders to send and sent items box after having moved the messages you want to save to a local folder that you create.

Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Note the location and navigate on it in Explorer Windows or, copy and paste in start | Run.

In Windows XP, Win2K & Win2K3 the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show hidden files and folders under start | Control Panel | Folder Options icon | Opinion, or in Windows Explorer. Tools | Folder options | View.

With OE closed, find the DBX files for the items in the Outbox and sent and delete them.  New ones will be created automatically when you open OE.

After you're done, followed by compacting your folders manually while working * off * and do it often.

Click Outlook Express at the top of the the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work offline (or double-click on work online in the status bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed.

    General precautions for Outlook Express:

Do not archive mail in the receipt or sent items box. Create your own user-defined folders and move messages you want to put in them. Empty the deleted items folder daily. Although the dbx files have a theoretical capacity of 2 GB, I recommend all a 300 MB max for less risk of corruption.

Disable analysis in your e-mail anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that devours the CPUs, slows down sending and receiving and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for the loss of messages. Your up-to-date A / V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more information, see:

Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your email
    http://thundercloud.NET/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htm

Note that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in custom Mode and uncheck analysis when the option is the result of e-mail messages.

    Compact often as specified above.

    And backup often.

  • Outlook express - identity change?

I've been running OE 6 on XP Pro v for a few years and it is little by little unpredictable unstable - particularly slow while booting. He regularly offers to compress files unnecessarily.   I don't think that disk space is a problem.  Some MS experts once advised me that the switching of identities was the cure for most of the problems based on the register of OE.  I don't like fiddling with the registry, by ignorance.  I have lots of folders to OE and subfolders to answer to the.  Can someone please explain to me in simple basic steps exactly what are the procedures for changing identity and I guess that transfer matching one ID to another without screwing up my database. I use "OE Quick Backup" but have not yet had the opportunity to use it to restore. How would this work for an ID different is conjecture.  Thank you.

File | Identities | Add the new identity and follow the instructions. If all goes well, you can import your messages and address book from the old identity and delete it.

Note: Do not use the main word in the name of the new identity.

You use account settings even if you follow the prompts.

    Import:

    For your messages:

In the old identity, firstly, compact all your folders.

In the new identity: file | Import | Messages. Select Microsoft Outlook Express 6 and import from the old identity.

    To your address book:

Open the address book in the old identity and file | Export | Address book (wab) and save it to the desktop. Then, open the address book in the new identity and file | Import | Address book (wab), and then tap on where it was saved.

Start and post back with more questions.
