Cannot backup machine XP Home Server, when others

I have a Setup whereby I have 1 Windows 7 (Media Center) cable, 2 laptops (a Vista Business & a Windows XP Home Edition - wireless) and 1 desktop Windows XP Pro (by cable) connected to my network to be saved on my new Windows Home Server.  I was able to get all the machine to be backed up, the Windows XP Pro desktop.  When this machine is not saving, all other backups run without failure.  When I include this machine, I get an error in the log of the events on the client, "Microsoft.HomeServer.Backup.Protocol.ProtocolException: Client / Server connection lost.»  I tried to use a different network card (usb Linksys wireless adapter) and still get the same message.  I ran chkdsk/r/x several times and nothing has been reported on this desktop computer hard drive.  I remember awhile back, I had used the Western Digital tool to repair sectors bad on this drive, but things worked very well since and as I said, chkdsk does not any problem report.

Before going in the way of an attempt to the image of this machine and use a new hard drive, I was hoping to see if anyone else had any ideas?  One thing, I thought to try was to ensure that in the bios, I change the setting for RAID IDE hard, as I use an IDE drive on this computer.  Not sure if it will do anything but little short of ideas.  Problem is at this point that this office was the machine that we used to backup everything (he copied onto external hard drive).  Copied files to the home server, I really want to have at least one backup of this machine in the meantime.

Thoughts and ideas are very welcome and appreciated.

Thank you.

  • Cannot connect to Windows Home Server 2011

I just installed a Windows Servr Home 2011.  I can not all my clients to connect to the server.  All my customers use Win 7 Home Premium.  I can see the server in the Windows Explorer to the customer (my desktop PC).  If I click on the icon of the server, I can browse shared files.  The directions tell to connect you, enter http:/// log in as a URL to the browser. When I do that, I get a 'not found' by DNS.  I tried to enter http:/// connect as URL and he did enter the web page to download the SW to administer the server.  However, the name of the executable if the server name is used must be ComputerConnector (.exe.)  If I downloaded it using the IP address, I get the file ComputerConnector (.exe.)  When I try to run it, I get an error message that says that this name has nonstandard characters.  I renamed the file to use the name of the server and got the same error.  I assume that the name of the original file is in the header.
I also went to (network > servername) in other devices in Windows Explorer and end up downloading a file named ComputerConnector (fe80__b487_7b89_297_e93c) .exe. I get the same error as before.
I have the dashboard 2011 WHS connector installed on my laptop and it works OK.  Given that the office has not connected, I can't configure the server to backup my office.  It is also true for my HTPC and another laptop.
All the computers are in the same homegroup.  I ping the server with the IP address and the name of the server.

  • Cannot partition on Windows Home Server

    The problem:
We are currently the main C drive partitioned 20 GB and we cannot repartition try with several different partition tools.  The error via a tool, it's "the volume you have selected cannot be extended.  Other tools to give similar messages.  The hard drive is 250 GB RAID 1 mirror.

    What we tried:

A suggestion according to the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/841650 does not include the home server edition so can't take the risk that she clearly serve States own risk.  We tried Acronis partition software, G-Parted, diskpart.exe command BACK and Macrorit http://macrorit.com/partition-magic-manager/server-diskpart-fails-to-extend-system-partition.html

    Other suspicious Info:

    1. System Properties window says that the operating system is 'Windows Home Server'.

2 window Information System indicates that the operating system is 'Windows 2003 Small Business Server. "

The person who owns that server call purchase Home Server edition.  Not sure if this is related or not, but it's conflicting information to find a solution.

Bottom line, even if that server is outdated and not fully supported any longer, we hope to keep alive a little more long if possible if we simply repartition C drive and increase the free space.  Other than replacing the server suggestions are appreciated because they are not willing to spend the money to replace the entire server.

  • Windows Home Server errors when trying to mount an old backup

I use Windows Home Server to backup multiple machines at home.  One of my old machines died in 2010, and although I thought I had put all my data off of it when switching to a new machine, I kept the old backups autour on the WHS as a precaution.  Of course, I missed a file.  So, I tried to view the last backup and got an error in editing to 79% of the way.  I kept several backups, so I tried the next to the last backup.  Same editing error, as 79%.  He is the 2008 edition of WHS, up-to-date with patches.  I already tried the integrated process of repair, and the journal that it generated did not show any errors on these backups.  Someone has seen this and know a fix?  Thank you.

Safari throws "Safari cannot open page because the server is not responding" while Chrome throws an error "this site is not reachable, connection timed out" for most relationships other than Facebook, Google, Youtube and a few other sites on my Macbook Pro. Windows Home Server 2011 on LAN

I had a hard drive failure partial who gave no symptoms or errors except a VERY slow start-up and operation.  I tried to do a restore of the entire system of my Home Server 2011 backups to see if, perhaps, just the image was corrupt.  USB was created and all drivers copied from pilots for the full system restore folder.  Has started the full restoration of the system and loaded the missing NETWORK adapter driver by using the scanner for drivers.  Driver support was successful but no lights NIC and the message "cannot find server".  NETWORK card was working fine before, even with the bad hard drive and also after the abandonment of the restoration.  Installed the new drive hard C:-System and that was the main problem, BUT..., the later to restore attempt was always the NIC starts not problem.  Tried the driver directly at Gigabyte support and drivers drivers for the full restoration of the system of records from several different backups.  No love.  Just NIC does not start after the specified load successful pilot.

    All good advice?

  • When you use network troubleshooting in Windows, get message Windows cannot communicate with primary dns server

    Original Title2: Windows 7 - Internet

Original title: can someone help me?
I use a PC at home with Windows 7.  Whenever the failure at home, I have problems connecting to the Internet. Whenever I try to go on Youtube or another website, I get "Internet Explorer can not display the webpage." Now, my internet and router are configured correctly, then why is what is happening? I ran Diagnostics and got the "Windows cannot communicate with primary DNS server." I tried to reset the TCP/IP settings. It did not work and I did three times! I tried to check the properties of my network when I went to diagnose the problem, he threw some stuff on the property sheets open and close before you reopen the properties. If someone could give a foolproof solution for this annoying internet problem I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

    Hello

    Welcome to the Microsoft community!

While using the network troubleshooter utility in Windows, you get message that Windows cannot communicate with primary DNS server.

What is the exact message that you get when you try to check the settings of network domestic?

I suggest you to change network settings:

Step 1: change network settings of the router

    a. connect to your router (by typing 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 in the address bar) and connect. Check your user manual or documentation if you don't know the references of logon.
    b. make sure you are in Setup-> basic configuration category.
    c. scroll down until you see "DHCP Server" - if it is disabled, select 'enable '.
    d. enable DHCP if you want, you can change the number that starts the DHCP IP assigning. (This is optional)
    e. use the DNS servers provided by your ISP. There are many DNS servers out there. It is preferable to use your ISP if possible.
    f. scroll down and click 'Save Settings'.

Note: The procedure may slightly vary with different routers. You can see the manual or contact ISP for assistance.

Step 2: change in the computer network settings

    a. click on start and then Control Panel.
    b. go to the networking and sharing Center and then click on change adapter settings.
    c. right-click on connection to the Local network and select Properties.
    d. Select Internet Protocol Version 6, and then click Properties.
    e. Select obtain DNS server automatically an address and press Ok.
    f. Select obtain IP address automatically.
    g. Repeat steps for Internet Protocol version 4 as well.

I hope this helps. If the problem persists, let know us and we would be happy to help you.

  • Failure of Windows Home Server 2011 restore backup.

    Hello

I use windows 2011 database server that has UEFI patches installed.  I'm trying to restore a computer 10 (64-bit) windows.  All the efforts I do the response indicates an unknown network error has occurred and the restore fails.  I suspect that this error is a bit misleading, as if I run the customer Restore Wizard directly from the server I always get the same message, even if the backup directly from the server, rather than through the local network.

I tried to own upwards of backups and tried to restore several back ups and the problem persists.  I tried chkdsk /f on each disk on the server, as well as SFC (System file check) on the operating system drive.

There is enough free space on the server and tried on the network with a bootable USB key created from the windows client server at home as well as directly from the server as above, same result.  I made sure that I use the restore 64-bit for my 64-bit client.

Can someone suggest something for me?  All the newspapers I could watch?

    Thank you and Merry Christmas
