The defragmentation tool requires at least 15% to be effective. I have removed all unnecessary programs in Control Panel and use the disk clean up several times, but there are so defragmented files it will not improve the disk space.   You have two choices.   Buy a bigger HD and transfer data through or delete things until you get to 15%.  It's a large amount od deletion so I would opt for the drive.

  This happens when the automatic updates downloaded updates, but not all updates to date you have requested or for automatic download.

  So we need to know why this is happening every time, most likely because updates have downloaded have not managed to install and that's why stop you of updates install at shutdown.

  My laptop came originally installed with Microsoft XP. A year ago I bought an 'Upgrade' Windows Vista disc to my computer instead. I've updated, everything was fine and then a month ago windows could no longer work. I could not reinstall Vista, because I only had the upgrade version, and I don't have XP.

  I was able to install Vista without using the key supplied with the drive, but of course I was given 30 days to activate it - who is not able to do. Now, windows must stop working once AGAIN, unless I repeat again and again the installation process. I think it is complete BS that Microsoft does that. I bought the drive, I have the key, they should provide me with a way to solve the problem that THEY should have been fixed a long time ago. Vista stop working due to problems of Vista. I can't even use their technical support, because I refuse to pay the sum of $59.99, they ask.

  Is there a way I can activate my Vista program so I don't have to keep reinstalling each month? I don't have an XP disc, and it never came with the laptop.

  You use the telephone option to activate Vista.

  Click the Start button.

  1. in the search box, type slui.exe 4 and press enter.

  3. Select your country in the menu dropdown.

  4. click on continue in the UAC prompt.

  5. an toll-free telephone number will appear with a set of numbers generated by Windows and displayed on your screen.

  6. dial the number and follow the automated instructions.

  If the activation service informs you that she has failed and cannot help with activation, then STAY ON THE LINE and your call will be transferred to a representative of Activation.

  Simply explain to the representative the situation and that they will help in the activation of Vista.

• Windows 8 "license is invalid" after Windows updates (help please!)

  I have a C540 all in one (no load) running Windows 8 and noticed yesterday that Windows updates have been failure for months then tried to run all the updates so that I can update to 8.1 (and, possibly, 10). At that time (and since purchase - I'm the original purchaser) Windows 8 has been activated very well.

  There were various failures and reversions of updates and now Windows does not recognize the Activation Code. The key is material, it shows that I have a key in the registry, but when I entered in the service of Activation of Windows I get the error:

  The Software Licensing Service determined that the license is not valid.

  Microsoft helpfully told me this isn't their problem because it is an OEM license (even if the only thing I've done is apply the updates of Windows) and I need to buy a key to sales at retail. Lenovo speaks for me because I'm out of warranty.

  Someone at - it ideas or experience or I'll just have to hit this PC with a massive hammer and not buy Lenovo or authorized OEM PCs again?

  I think I have a half today to answer my own question.

  Today (without any changes made to anything) the key to Activation of Windows 8 was suddenly recognized and valid again. Now install each windows update individually also works.

  I think that it is possible, but there is an intermittent hardware fault kind on the C540 causing quite different material for the MS license not to recognize the configuration (and think that the license is not valid for the PC), whatever it is not permanent.

  Then - in terms of correction... Well I don't have - he went just by itself and I guess he'll be back one day...
