Cannot configure the Laptop Inspiron 15 5559 to boot from the DVD drive

I have a new laptop Inspiron 15 5559 .  There seems to be no way to configure the BIOS to boot from a repair disc to win 10.  After an accident on my old laptop, I know how it is important to be able to restore a disk image of my external backup.

Help please because I do not see how to get the player optical, listed in the boot order.  It doesn't seem to be any mention of it.

the bios is probably corrupted also not hostile user. try Googling a tutorial of bios dell for the setting of parameters for 5559. Lucky, you're not going to find one. It's not even a decent manual. the user must download the recovery files that must be installed on the hard drive before l/p of the plant leaves. the Bios is archaic and most of the time does not meet the evolution of the legacy in the uefi. you could try to update the bios, but I doubt that you will succeed even after doin so. call the tech and have them try. I did and they screwed up my 5559 and they had me reinstall the recovery of a usb drive, they sent. It helps took 5 hours to install. then another 3 hours of updates. and the 5559 still does not work properly. Maybe I got a lemon. However the subject requested, and every time I called dell every question I asked I was put on hold. what say you. He offered dell technicians, although very courteous do not know and don't have to put you on hold the Conference with other technicians or find which could help. Sorry to be critical but after over the hours on the phone most of the time on hold dell tech dept is not up to snuff.

  • Satellite Pro A120 - cannot boot from CD/DVD drive

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A120 of friends, he was running very slow so I said I'd do the usual for him.
Back up all his documents, and then reinstall windows. not so easy!

First of all, try to boot from the CD so I can boot into Ubuntu or reinstall windows.
Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.

From time to time I get an error saying + "Media test failure - check cable" + or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject.
I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Able to boot Ubuntu from a USB key.
Try to copy its documents on my external drive but really copying REALLY slow (like 1 MB/s) and kept getting IO errors on some files.
I can't run diagnostic software for HARD drive that I can not boot from the CD (could get the Ultimate Boot CD on a USB but if anyone thinks it would help?).

In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR).
    This means a failing drive?
What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the portable CD player with a CD of work of another computer and windows recognize today this new CD player at all!

By putting a bootable CD in this new CD player, it always starts from the HARD drive (do not recognize CD player in all).
The BIOS is a bit unnecessary and does not show the detected disks...

Also, boot Ubuntu from a USB key, with the original CD player, he reads real CD and DVD copied of all zeros are considered blank discs and replace the CD drive with a known working in Ubuntu means its not recognized at all (if this isn't windows driver problems).

When I started messing around with it I remember windows say the time had been reset, so I set the time properly, then he did the same thing again I think. A flat CMOS battery could not be responsible for this?

Is the motherboard and specifically the IDE controller or a broken ports, or am I doing something stupid? I'm tempted to just install Ubuntu by USB and tell him not to bother with CD more ;^)

Any suggestions or comments would be much appreciated!

    Thank you

    > Me has taken long enough to work, I had to press DEL/ESC to enter in the BIOS, but once I put to boot from the CD (and was a bootable CD in the drive), it kept just boot from the HARD drive.
You see the CD/DVD drive in BIOS? I mean all the details like the name WEIRD etc.
If this isn't the case, then it means that your CD/DVD drive is not recognized by the BIOS due to a hardware problem.

If you can see the STRANGE in the BIOS but are still not able to boot from any disk, then I suppose that the CD/DVD drive cannot read the disk for different reasons.
One of the reasons could be a defective or damage the laser lens

    > Every so often, I would get an error saying "Media test failure - check cable" or something similar, theres a lot on internet on this subject. I think its something to do if the boot order has CD first, then it has LAN as 2nd.

Yes, this error means that your laptop tried to boot from LAN

    > In windows, the CD player only reads real CD (audio similar DVD, not CDR and DVDR). This means a failing drive?

As I said above, it would be possible that the reader s laser lens malfunctions and, therefore, the ODD can't handle the media. It seems that the laser lens can not calibrate properly and can not move in the correct position. This question is not repairable and the drive needs to be replaced.

    > What intrigues me most, however, is that I changed the CD drive with a CD of work of another laptop and windows don't recognize this new CD player at all!

The fact is that not all CD/DVD drives are compatible due to different master/slave/C-salt settings. You must use the supported players! In most cases, you can find a list in your user manual what CD/DVD readers are compatible.

You must have the DVD drive to start the computer using the disk, you cannot use the external hard drive to do the same thing.

    Hello

I have a laptop Compaq Presario A900. Currently, the DVD player does not work properly. After reviewing the Device Manager, the DVD drive reports the following error: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. My laptop running Windows Vista and the product is of # A931NR.

I ran and installed the VISTA MS Fix It utility, as you suggested. He filled the diagnoses and recommended to reinstall the CD/DVD driver. However, the reader does not always show upward under my computer and Device Manager still says "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its information of configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19) ».

It seems to be a problem in the registry that prevents the CD/DVD drive to correctly seting is placed in the system.  You have any other suggestions? I really appreciate it.

  • Mr. Fix it cannot fix the DVD/CD, reading and writing problem

I had a problem a few months ago this onc I put a CD in the CD/DVD drive, it can't read and rejected and ask to put a readable CD, then I run Mr. Fix and the problem disappeared. recently just the same problem, I tried Mr.Fix but it cannot solve the problem, then it is there another way to solve the problem

    Hello

Step 1: Please do all the same underneath if you did some before as it is often the set of operations which solves the problem.

Try this double click Control Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - device - tab - click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive of the driver - UNINSTALL - REBOOT this will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, might have a cable loose or slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables at both ends. Remove and replace, do not just tight. For laptops, you can often clean power and contacts data with a pencil eraser.

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the system manufacturer and the manufacturer of the device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (burn CD & DVD and CD and DVD read). Therefore, it is not unusual for 1 or 2 rooms with not so work that others do it properly.

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some entries in the registry that the troubleshooter does not solve, and those who "could" be the cause.

Check with your system manufacturer Maker and device for possible firmware updates and the correct registry entries for your car.

These are the keys in my opinion, are those in question - secondary-keys for the CD/DVD drive of course because there will be other subkeys in these keys. Be sure to ask specific keys involved as well as the parameters.

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\IDE
