  • I can't play DVDs in Windows Media Player 12 on Windows 7 Pro and get this error msg: Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD drive decoder and video card protection.

Hello, thanks for reading and helping me.

I try to play a legitimate, belonging to DVD, but Windows Media Player 12 will not play on my computer Windows 7 Professional.  The DVD worked a few days ago, but all of a sudden, I get the following error message:

"Windows Media Player cannot play this DVD because there is a problem with the digital copy between your DVD player and the video card protection decoder. Try to install a driver available for your video card.

I did a lot of research of these forums and on the ' net.  Here are the suggested steps I tried without success:

    • I tried VLC player.  This works.  However, rather than use this workaround, I wish to find a solution to my problem WMP/WMC.
    • I tried several DVD for years over the last decade.  These DVD works on my laptop, also running Windows 7 Professional and the shark 007 codec.
    • I uninstalled my Shark 007 codec
    • I tried other codecs (K-Lite)
    • I assured that the latest drivers are installed on my video card, XFX ATI Radeon 5850
    • I tried to uninstall Nero 9
    • I tried to use the Windows 7 troubleshooting options:
    • > Reading and burning CD, DVD and Blu - ray (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player DVD (no problem)
    • > Windows Media Player Settings (detects a problem, wants to restore factory settings, every time, no matter what happens)
    • A system restore to a time when the DVD was working did not resolve the issue
    • The different links in Microsoft, I found in this forum about this problem do not seem to be useful.  There is a link that points to the set-top boxes, but this page just says: "Windows 7 comes with a decoder.
    • I assured the latest driver is available by going to "Device Manager", right click on the drive, then click on "update driver software".
    • I assured that the latest firmware is installed directly from the manufacturer's website.
    • I tried to reset my DRM by renaming the DRM under C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows folder and by going to this Web site to upgrade:http://drmlicense.one.microsoft.com/Indivsite/en/indivit.asp?force=1
    • I've uninstalled and reinstalled Windows Media Player 12 and Windows Media Center via the function "functionality in Windows.

I would be very grateful if a Microsoft technology could chime.  Thanks for your help!

  • How can I copy my own DVDs dvd-video on an iMac?

I saved a huge amount of old movies on my reader dvd recorder and now wonder if I can copy so they can still play on the dvd player - an old Panasonic with component cables to connect to my old TV with the large projection in the back [a picture tube?].  I tried to make copies with my new mac that has El Capitan, but it won't work.  If I try to make my own movies via iMovie, they will not play on my old player because he apparently only play movies in dvd-video format [DVD-V], not the new divx format.  Any suggestions?  I tried Googling but can't find an answer.  What is interesting is that the dvd drive on my mac of El Capitan will play my old DVD.  Why they can't be copied?

If they are records of commercial films, then the DRM/copyright protection could be the cause - you are not allowed to copy commercial movies.

  • How can I copy video to a DVD on my hard drive in Windows XP?

Original title: not a wiz here pc... How can I copy video to a DVD on my hard drive... I have windows XP?
need help please... thank you in advance.

If the DVD is "not" a commercial copy protected DVD...
the following steps may be worth a try:

When you insert the DVD in your DVD player... close
all the windows that can open and then go to... Start /.
Computer... right click the icon for the DVD player
is located in, and then select Explore or open to view the
    Directory of the DVD.

The files you need from the DVD are the. VOB files.
You will find them in the VIDEO_TS folder. Copy them
in a folder on your hard drive. Or you can copy the
    full VIDEO_TS folder.

First... just try to rename one of the. VOB files to
. MPG or. AVI and see if it will matter in Movie Maker.
If import works... drag the file to the timeline and
Economy/publication it to .wmv or .avi format. Then...
Re - import new video from .wmv to for editing.
(Note: in Windows 7 you may be able to import the)
VOB files in Movie Maker just as they are)

(FWIW... you can probably play the files renamed
in Windows Media Player to be sure that VOB
    file to edit)

If you are unable to import the files they need to be converted
another .wmv format would be a good choice.

There are many programs that can do conversions...
The following freeware is an example...:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Format Factory
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
    (the 'direct link' is faster)
(the file you want to download is: > FFSetup260.zip<>
    (FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
('all' boxes on the last screen)

First, you will need to decompress the file or just open the
Drag FFSetup260.exe out of the folder
and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

Next, after the download and installation of Format
Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
    are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

    That should do it...

    Good luck...

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site.

If you cannot copy files normally, try to copy guest rather using Xcopy command.

    1. click on start, principally made programs, click Accessories and then right-click on command prompt, click Run as administrator.
    2. type the following command line and press ENTER. In the command line, drive is the letter of the CD drive or DVD drive.

First... just a suggestion... using a slow burn speed

If you have software installed Nero should have
    an option for copying DVDs.

  • make a copy of a dvd with windows media player

A few years ago I had some old movies on vhs that I managed to copy onto dvd discs when I got a dvd recorder.   I would now like to make copies of these records.   I am using media player but I'm not good with this.  I put a disc in the drive of my laptop and it plays without any problems.  But what I do after that?  to import the contents of the disc to my library?  all attempts to do so have not - I have to do something wrong.  When I look to the top of 'help' it especially assumes that you have already backed up files/folders on your pc, any help at all would be appreciated.

  • Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be damaged or missing. Error code: 0 x 80070241.

I had a lot of trouble trying to install the 64-bit version of windows 7 Home Premium on my 64-bit vista, and my question is multi-part. If it is relevant, it's my 2nd copy of windows 7 I have tried. Initially, I had the problem of not being able to run the installation on two copies with the error "'autorun.dll' could not be found or is damaged. Error code is [0x7E]. "However, I managed to get into with my 2nd copy installation after restarting my computer. Once in Setup, I got another error that stopped the installation that says "windows not could create an installation folder. Error code is 0 x 80070017. "Again, I rebooted my computer and started the installation again, this time following installation was decently through but stopped when I got the error"Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be damaged or missing. Error code is 0 x 80070241. "I then backed up and restarted my computer and then tried to use the option to install custom but then got the error"E:\sources\autorun.dll is not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try to install the program using the original media, or contact your system administrator. "coupled with the error"the file 'autorun.dll' could not be loaded or is corrupt. Error code is 0xC1"again once I restarted and tried the custom option but got the error" Windows has no load the required file WinSetup.dll.» The file is possibly corrupted. To install windows, restart the installation. I understand that my problem is very complex, but it seems to be built around a missing or damaged file. Thanks if you can tell what's wrong or what to do.

Tips for solving common problems when Windows 7 won't install troubleshooting

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor to see if there are known issues that might affect the installation and correct them.
