Cannot install windows updates and also msconfig, regedit, Task Manager won't open?
Hello
I use windows xp professional sp3.
Nothing happens when I try to run msconfig, regedit, Task Manager, etc.. They don't open even in Safe Mode.
Apart from that, windows update is not able to install updates and repeatedly tries to install the same updates again and again and fails permanently.
Sometimes, when I try to run some .exe files, I get an error message... 'not a win32 application valid', even if its a win32 version.
The boot.ini file is missing. I've already replaced the missing hosts files.
Could someone help me please?
Concerning

Cannot install windows updates and updates history screen is empty.
I can't install the windows updates. I have Windows Vista Home Premium. My automatic update is running... I studied and thought that the problem was with some service pack 2 I had to install - I did and nothing helped. My windows update history page is completley empty and Iwonder why. Also, I now can't seem to connect my Nokia phone to my computer as he finds the right driver online, but then it cannot install it. Can someone tell me what on Earth is cause of these problems. Thank you
The computer had only preinstalled Norton or McAfee, but I've since deleted these programs because I found them to be boring...
A properly installed, fully functional anti-virus application should never be boring. Although that pretty much excludes from the application of all the Norton and McAfee in my humble OPINION, there are others available.

Yes you can. Usually, the OEM factory restore option will automatically erase the drive. You will need to check with Compaq on recovery methods they offer and how to access."I have also two adapters network with yellow! next to them in the Device Manager. I tried to uninstall, but they relocate! »
Well, if you do a factory restore this issue should correct itself. However, if you uninstall a hardware device, the system detects the device at startup it will attempt to reinstall. If the network adapters are part of the motherboard you can turn them off via the BIOS.

No hardware changes or software recently made to the system: I followed the usual procedure to install Windows updates.
Method of connection: wireless
Technical expertise: intermediate level
Performed troubleshooting: because the error # 80071 A 90 type indicated by the system, I followed the instructions of Windows Help and Support, for example to run Microsoft Fix it which did not work; a more advanced method has also been used, who recommended to start Windows Update in Mode safe, then open Windows Update and install the updates and then restart normally. At this point, the problem was that any stage of Windows Update was available.
Hello amib004,
As much as I know, only Windows Update cannot be run in safe mode. That being said, I saw where install several updates may conflict with each other. Try to disable all updates installation and install the updates failed one at a time.

Get the error code 641, cannot install Windows updates.
Reluctant to do a reinstall of windows. I had the same problem, find the same useless information on a cure. I did a reinstall of windows (Vista) and partially by installing the updates of windows I ran into the same problem again, the windows installer does not. Even from scratch will get not anywhere, leaving you at least your system as it stands leaves can be used instead of a partially updated with no program system.

The Windows Update KB2728973 and KB2917500 are appearing repeatedly on Help and Support Center, windows update and the automatic update check on purpose to get updates of high priority (recommended) button.
The update of windows KB2728973 will automatically appear on the notification area. I installed the KB2728973 update. When I check the latest version of windows update in Help and Support Center, the KB2917500 appears in patches of high priority (recommended). I also installed the KB2917500 update. Once again, the update of windows KB2728973 will be automatically appears on the notification area and install it again. And even once, when you check that the latest version of windows update in Help and Support Center, the KB2917500 appears again in the updates of high priority (recommended).
As a closure update, only once you update, it appears again.
Looking forward to our experts advise on this issue. Guys thank you very much in advance.
