card (m-SATA) mSATA SSD on PCI Satellite A500 series

I don't know if the (e) PCI slot marked "JGPS' (near RAM in the laptop) to Toshiba Satellite A500 1 2 (main chipset: Intel (r) 5 Series/3400 Series) can operate in mSATA mode.

I want to install in this flash drive SSD card slot (e.g.: Kingston SSDNow v + SMS100S2 / 64G mSATA) and start the system from that drive.

What is technical specifications of this PCI slot, where is the data on the website of Toshiba?

Hello

AFAIK the JGPS is a GPS connector. A mini map GPS might be connected to this connector.
The ESATA connector is called JESAT, but there is no mSATA connector

Satellite A210 does not support port mSATA and therefore the mSATA SSD module cannot be used.
Probably, you have found a mini-PCI on the motherboard slot. It certainly looks like mSATA but its not the same thing.

I agree with Akuma. Satellite U400 is old enough laptop model and its standard SATA port, you cannot use reader with connector mSATA (mini-SATA).
the mSATA discs are smaller and designed for use on the netboos and ultraportable notebooks.

  • Satellite L50-B-1WF - IDE oucederomsurlesecondport mSATA SSD?

    Dear Toshiba

I wonder, is the Satellite L50-B-1WF has its IDE oucederomsurlesecondport mSata SSD? Some product sites request this. Or y at - it no mSata on this series either?

Second question: can I install a slim line internal drive BlueRay on it, instead of a DVD player?

The L50-B-1WF Satellite was equipped with the 256GB MSATA SSD that is connected to the controller SATA using a Committee of Exchange.

Second question: can I install a slim line internal drive BlueRay on it, instead of a DVD player?

I don't think as much I know this unit (or model) does not support slim select Bay feature.
But this is only my personal opinion because I never tested this extension on common laptop... but I used this slim select Bay adapter on my old laptop Portege... but this device support this feature... While it was possible to replace the STRANGE with a second HDD

  • Satellite U940 - 11 d - 32 GB mSATA SSD use

    Hello world

I bought the week last Toshiba U940 - 11 d and I would replace the drive HARD 750 GB with 120 GB SSD. I have a question. I would like to install Windows 8 in SSD 120 GB drive and use another DDD which is mSATA for swap or my documents. Is this possible?

What can I do for my application? Can I use 32 GB mSATA as normal SSD SSD or I can use only to the cache?

    Best regards.

    > I have a question. I would like to install Windows 8 in SSD 120 GB drive and use another DDD which is mSATA for swap or my documents. Is this possible?

It would be possible if the system of Windows 8 would recognize the mSATA 32 GB as an additional drive. I m not 100% sure of this, but I guess only in case this is not possible, you could use this drive for caching mSATA SSD.

  • B560 and MSATA SSD

    Hi all

The hard drive is recently went out on B560 sister and to add some speed to this laptop, as well asleave the option open for further expansion with a 2.5 "drive, I ordered and Nocti OCZ 60 GB MSATA SSD. Popped it right into the MSATA hole opened in the area hard drive right next to the wifi card. However, it is not recognized in the BIOS or by a Windows 7 installation disc.

    Help?

    Thank you

    AD

Lenovo B560 won't work with msata SSD.

The combination of BIOS and mini PCI slot in the laptop was not designed for the storage drives.

I handed my msata SSD and I bought a used 2.5 "SSD. The old HD is now external with a Sata to USB adapter.

  • mSATA SSD in an Aspire 3935?

Anyone know if I can install an mSATA SSD in the Aspire 3935 to?  (Model no. MS2263)

I have what appears to be two PCIe slots? : a half size that is not in use and a size where the wifi card is mounted. My plan was to get a half size-wifi card for half size slot and remove the wifi card full size and replace it with an mSATA SSD.

Are these same PCIe slots? and also, the BIOS recognize the SSD drive?

    Hello

These are only the PCIe connectors without SATA bus. They are used for WLAN cards.

  • X131e - msata ssd ThinkPad

    Hello

I ordered a x131e thinkpad and I'm currently waiting for delivery.

At the same time, I would like to order an msata ssd card to install in one of the two mini pci-e ports (for the installation of the OS).

I saw in the hardware maintenance manual p63-64 (http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/x131e_en_hmm_0b48698_01.pdf ) that the msata ssd card can be installed in the WWAN card slot full size.

    Issues related to the:

-the slot for WWAN card full size is free by default... I guess that Yes, because the wireless card that comes with X131e is a half size Intel Centrino wireless - N 2230, which should be in the other mini pci-e slot (known as the wireless LAN slot)?

-What is the size of the msata ssd card that could be installed in the free location? There are several length of the msata ssd card (25, 50 and 70 mm)... I guess it is 50mm?

-There are different types of cards msata ssd: sata2 or sata3... make thinkpad x131e sata3 msata ssd card support?

Thanks for your help and sorry for my bad English level

    Visegrad,

Given that the integrated SATA controller is SATA2, it will probably support mSATA2. I hope that this solves all your questions. If you have any other questions do not hesitate to ask!

And once again, thank you Visegrad to be part of the community of Lenovo.

  • Tecra R840 mSata SSD installation in module 3G position

    Hello
I have a Tecra R840-110 model, there is also a 3 G module inside, I would install the mSata SSD pcie slot.
Is possible to use the mSata SSD instead of module 3 G pcie slot?

Thank you very much for your help!

I think that something like this is not possible. Card mother ports are not a kind of flexible ports.
In the past, that Toshiba gave the second HARD drive, upgrade instead of the optical drive using special adapter.

I don't buy or not this SSD.

    Thank you!

    Hi there @iliyas1985,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!  I understand that you are looking for help for a potential installation of SSD.   I'm happy to help you with this.

Looking at HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - specifications of the motherboard, IPISB-NK (Lavaca3-SB)for your system, it has the following internal expansion slots:

Two PCI Express mini card Sockets (generation 2 speed)
A PCI Express MXM slot that takes care of a PCI Express x 16 graphics card (generation 2 speed)

So if you find an SSD, which is compatible with those you can try to use it, but it's never a guarantee that both devices will work together.

Please let me know if it works for you and if it does not solve your problem, please mark this message as a solution. Bravo would be appreciated as well.

  • Satellite A500 PSAR9E. Someone tryied to install the SSD to conn JSSD?

    Hello!

Now my satellite A500 is completely disassembled and I am looking for what is inside and what is possible to upgrade. The most interesting for me is jssd connector on the bottom of the motherboard.

This information was already mentioned on toshiba American forum but has not ended.
It's someone who's been tryied/successedid to install the ssd drive to this place or this connection is physically disabled by the BIOS of the motherboard?

And including this interface mSATA 1.8 inches?

I myself want to try this connection if I find this ssd or the usual sata interface cable.

If the micro SATA port is available on the motherboard, the interface should work.
But there is a question open about the BIOS. If the BIOS would not provide support for the micro SATA, then new SSD connected would be not recognized
However, I have not found useful information on BIOS support...

  • as additional storage mSATA SSD

    Hi all

    I have a touchsmart Envy 15-j003ed E4A07EA #ABH with a 4700mq I7, HP mainboard 1963.

The laptop came with a rather slow disk 5400 RPM. I changed this to a Kingston Hyper X 120 GB SSD sata 3. Which works very well. However, I would like to have some more space on board. Also only 4 GB of ram is installed I would spend it.  Related to it have 3 questions:

    (1) can I put a 120 GB or more in the slot msata SSD and use it as an extra hard drive? Not as a cache or almost...

    (2) or that it will be fast to do the startup disk msata ssd and use my current SSD storage?

    3) associated with the RAM, the specs give 1600 mhz speed, but the site of Kingston gives 1866 mhz as on option for the replacement, I use 1866 mhz?

Thank you very much in advance for your answer!

Yes, you can install a card from the WSSD in the slot mSATA for additional storage, but if you think that you can pick up just a larger SSD standard for less money extra. mSSDs have not yet appreciated the fall of wholesale prices we are seeing on 2.5-inch SSD. The WSSD cannot be a boot disc if you also have a standard 2.5-inch drive in the machine, which would be faster is a bit questionable. If possible, a WSSD would be a bit faster, but both are fast, it isn't a big deal.

    Here is the Service Manual:

    Manual

See page 44 for instructions of the WSSD.

The memory just be sure you get 1.35 volts or DDR3L memory. The manual says that it runs at 1600 mhz, so if you install the variety of 1866 he will just downclock.

  • Best option to use the mSATA SSD Drive - HP Envy 15 Sleekbook: Cache or primary storage?

    Hi all

I intend to buy an SSD mSATA disc to my desire, because I want to improve the response time at the opening of some programs, improve the General performance of the operating system and to access files faster to big (read and write).

I searched several readers mSATA SSD in the Web and I chose a P830 Series128GB mSATA SSD Samsung miniPCI-E disk (SATA III 6 GB/s, read 500 MB/s, writing of 400 MB/s).

But I'm asking about what might be the best option to use the SSD mSATA so suitable as a primary drive (operating system installation and leaving 1 TB of HARD drive for storage and applications) or use it as a cache to improve overall performance.

I do not envy for IE play or video editing, but I work with VMWare Workstation, and most of the time I need to use about 2 or 3 VM at the same time (sometimes during the recovery of a virtual Suspension of machine it take a long time, the virtual disks sizes about 40 GB). Another use for my desire is to play movies/series HD / 3D 0 and mirrored them for my Smart TV (via Miracast)

I read something on Intel Smart Response Technology (SRT) and I heard some benefits for use with SSDS as cache memory but I am still confused the best option.

Any suggestions you may have? It might be useful for me!

    Kind regards

    Alejandro

    Hello @cchoiz ,

    Welcome to the HP Forums!

I understand that you have questions about the installation of your mSATA SSD.

The mSATA slot is designed to only be used as a disk cache. You may experience problems starting in the mSATA SSD as drive. For this reason, I recommend to use it in its configuration provided; as a cache drive.

The decision is entirely at you in the end. If you are able to configure the BIOS to use the mSATA as the main drive, this will help improve your system performance in addition to using it as a cache drive, especially if there is enough space to install your VMWare on the mSATA SSD after you have installed the operating system. Use it as a main drive will also increase the life expectancy of the SSD.

I can only offer you my personal and no suggestions 'official response HP' in this regard. As previously mentioned, it is entirely up to you.

Hopfully, this helps at least a little.
