  My cd/dvd drive does not read any discs be it, white, written or commercially written. It opens and closes and is light to show that he is working on. Device Manager indicates that the device is functioning properly.

  Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double click on the device - driver tab.
  Click on update drivers (this will probably do nothing) - RIGHT click ON the drive - uninstall.

  I have canon handycam dvd and mini dvd works on it. A month back I recorded the movie and photos on mini dvd with handycam and ran mini dvd on my tecra M5 player, it worked very well.

  Seems that the lens cannot read this miniDVD s. Maybe cannot calibrate the lens of the drive and the miniDVD is so illegible.
  Try the sascha. Maybe you are a lucky man, and it works.
  If this is not the case, try to remove the drive physically from the laptop. Restart the laptop without the drive. The BIOS and Windows shouldn't t recognizes the drive.
  Then stops again, put the drive in the notebook and the startup of the device.
  The laptop should recognize the drive and must indicate the firmware again.

  It will probably replace the drive. There is more than one laser in there: one for each function. You can go bad without the other goes wrong.

  Replacement is easy. Remove one screw on the bottom and drag the old hunt and replace it with the new drive.

  To be honest, it's quite strange. If the laptop is preinstalled with recovery image, it should work. I tested it on my laptop 5 minutes ago and it works. The DVD-RAM disc is readable and different documents can be saved on the disk too.

  Do you use your own installation of OS, or you still have some factory settings?

  Hi, im having a problem with the dvdrw drive on the G20 PQG20E Qosimno, it does not read discs, the only drive that reads without problems is to restore dvd and Heroes (dvd movie) and origonal CD, it does not read any cd s that are not original.

  I know that not all media work on all players. In the manual, you should find a list of tested and good work supports.
  I recommend that you test the CD and DVD that is recommended in the user's manual.

  I have a 4 month old Satellite 100-447 (PSAAN), came preloaded with Vista Home Premium and a carpet * CD/DVD super-multi UJ-850 s player.

  The DVD player does not work properly. It will recognize a few blank, but never DVD-R DVD and won't recognise any DVD at all serious. He is very good with CD and DVD movie discs. It's just recordable DVD where there is a problem.

  Also when you try to write to a DVD, when he chooses to recognize a TI-error in half way through.

  What can I do?

  Download the latest update of the firmware for this drive, install it, and then try again.

  Sometimes, the manufacturer must update their readers for the newer recordable media and so I think that it is possible that your drive is simply not up to date.

  Hi, I have a COMPAQ Presario CQ40 with optiarc DVD RW AD - 7561 ATA Device driver, recently the drive does not work properly. It can read and burn the disc, that I already used, but when it's a new (disc white) it does not read the disc.  It has an error message "make sure that the disc uses a format windows recognizes. If the drive is not formatted, you must format it before you use it. "the disc is the format that would recognize the system.  I tried to uninstall the drivers and reinstalled from the Device Manager, but nothing works, tried too much microsoft fixit, always the same.  Hope that there is another work around here...   Sorry, but these issues are not uncommon that you will always encounter discs which are not totally compatible and that the readers of the laser lens is unable to handle this drive

  But just a question; These films are created for the European region?
  I mean there are different regions DVD

  As far as I know the films for European needs region 2
  The United States have need of region 1 and South American setting & Middle need area 4

  So if you want to watch DVD designed for US then you need to change the region to 1 settings.

  But note; You can change the region settings only 4 times then this parameters could be blocked, it is not possible to change it again

  Maybe you should try to remove the capital letters and lowerfilters in the registry, because you can often read here in the forum:

  (1) run regedit (Start-Run-Regedit online online)
  2) navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
  (3) in the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key and delete the key "LowerFilters".
  (4) restart.

  Please put a recovery media delivered on ODD, start your laptop and press the F12 key. Choose the CD/DVD as first boot device and check if the recovery procedure starts correctly.

  That means only one disc can be read from your laptop and all other disks can be read properly? Well, in my opinion, it could be a disc problem, maybe it's striped s and so it can t be read to all readers.

  In your case, I would try to clean the lens of your CD/DVD drive. Therefore, you can use a microfibre cloth.
  Check it!
