Changing to AHCI RAID

Hello

my Dell E6510 I have my hard drive put in RAID mode. I have problems using the eSata port, so I want to switch to AHCI. I followed the instructions here:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976. However, when I start my system after setting the drive in AHCI mode in the BIOS, I see the logo of Windows (with Win7 x 64) and a few seconds later, I get a blue screen with a message that I can not read because the system is restarted. Put back the BIOS on RAID brings the system again...

Anything I can do to work AHCI?

Thank you

Thomas Pagel

Hi Thomas,

Thank you for your message.

I think I have the solution to your problem and I checked it against a machine Dell which is equipped with a similar controller with your machine. Changing to AHCI, RAID,http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922976 fix will work.

Changing to AHCI RAID, you need a little more. Msahci driver requires Atapi.sys miniport driver to load during startup as well. If you must change the value ofStart at 0 for the following two entries in your registry. You can use regedit.exe utility.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESystemCurrentControlSetServicesMsahci\\\
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi

Or alternatively, you can run the command lines below in a high window.

REG ADD HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\msahci /v start d 0 /f /t REG_DWORD
REG ADD HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi /v start d 0 /f /t REG_DWORD

    Hello

    OS: Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1
    Storage: 1 x SSD
    Tip: Supermicro X9SRW-f

Currently, the SATA in the BIOS option is on AHCI. Start Windows on the desktop without problem.

Objective: Convert AHCI Raid mode. The integrated chipset to create a matrix to mirror with 2 x SSD.

I downloaded the disk driver for this card and installed the Intel Rapid Storage driver/software. I reboot and switch the SATA Raid mode. Windows starts to load and immediately blue screens. Put the SATA to AHCI mode allows me to boot successfully.

There are a few other drivers from the disc. Install these drivers, the windows are no longer boot in AHCI or Raid mode.

  • U410 Lenovo - replace AHCI RAID

    Hello world

Does anyone have solution Chipset SATA Mode to AHCI RAID change?

Since yesterday I try to find the appropriate solution for this issue.

    I already checked:

    (1) change of tone to register as above;
    Departure from HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci 3-> 0
    Start HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorA 0
    Start HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\iaStorV 0
    Error HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\storahci 3-> 0 control

Unfortunately after the restart in RAID mode, operating system does not work.

    (2) to go step by step on the description made by the microsoft support team:
    support.Microsoft.com/kb/2751461?wa=wsignin1.0

    Does not work.

My goal is to set up my SSD as cache drive and I read - without changing the RAID mode, it wouldn't work.

    I appreciate your advice.

Maybe there is a possibility to set up the SSD as cache in AHCI mode?

I had to change the start on 'legacy of first' Mode.

  • Can I use instead of AHCI RAID

Hi, I have a dell inspiron 530. In the bios there is no option AHCI. Since the RAID AHCI she does that mean I can use the same?

PS: I have 2 hard drives (no RAID). I tried to boot into windows on the first hard drive, but then it froze on startup a BSOD flashed for a few milliseconds and then he resatrted.

    Thank you.

    Hi John,.

Thanks for posting your question on the Forum of the Microsoft community.

    1. have you tried to change the boot drive SATA mode?
2 are you able to boot your computer?

    3. What is the error code that you get when getting BSOD?

I understand you have two independent hard drives connected to the controller. If you are able to start your computer successfully, here is an article that can help you change AHCI RAID.
Error message occurs after you change the mode of the boot drive SATA

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

How to back up and restore the registry in Windows

If you can not start at all, I suggest trying the following methods and check if they are useful.

    Method 1
    Please follow the underlying steps:

Step 1. Disconnect all external devices except the keyboard and mouse.

Step 2. I would like to start your computer in last known good configuration.

If method 1 does not work, go to method 2.

    Method 2
Step 1: Try to start your system in a State of services necessary to the operation and a minimal set of drivers, active Mode without failure.
Start your computer in safe mode

Step 2: If the system works fine in safe mode, try to clean the system startup:

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

Note: See "how to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

If method 2 does not work, go to method 3.

    Method 3
As you cannot start your computer at all, I suggest to run a startup repair to repair the damaged boot system files and attempt to start in normal mode. See the section: how to use Startup Repair in the following link.
    Startup Repair: frequently asked questions

If this does not help, try to start from an installation disc of Windows 7 to the Windows recovery environment mode and then try to run the Startup Repair tool and check if you are able to start normally.

Hope this information is useful. Let us know if you need more help, we will be happy to help you further.

  • HP DX2000 MT, how to change the AHCI to IDE in the BIOS?

I tried 4 work HARD drive on this machine reloading XP but when I get to the installation, is to show the problem of partitioning in the images below and I can't delete the partitions so I like to check the new BIIOS and I need to change the AHCI to IDE but how do I do this please? I'm not finding anything on the net to change it in the BIOS and looking in the BIOS for this I don't see anything?

    Hello:

Your model is too old to have the AHCI support.

There is no setting in the BIOS to change.

You can try some free software like partition wizard and use it to make a single partition.

  • HP Pavilion dv7-6103ei AHCI/RAID?

    Hi all

    Greetings from a poster first.

I have a Pavilion DV7-6103ei laptop, and it has been modernized with a Samsung PM810/series-470 128 GB SSD with a 1 TB of HARD drive in the second span.

I'm not necessarily interested in a RAID configuration, but I prefer the disks to run in AHCI mode.  However, I see that the BIOS does not support changing the interface of AHCI.

I did some research and it seems that these laptops do not support AHCI.  Is this correct?  I'm not able to find information on the RAID, which allows to AHCI when there is no current RAID configuration.

I have intel that Rapid Storage Technology installed.

Is my only option to run these HDDs in IDE mode?  Seems a bit primitive for a laptop as powerful.

If anyone can advise me on a work around or so to be able to operate in AHCI mode, let me know.

    Thank you.

    Greg

You are the very welcome, Greg.

Your BIOS of laptop computers is indeed set to AHCI and unfortunately, I do not know why the HARD drive is labeled as a scsi device.

I guess that's just the Windows name assigned to the drive.  I've seen this before on other PCs.

You can install the latest driver from Intel's Intel RST and to see if it makes a difference what anyone.

    Thank you

    David

Thanks for your help.  Your advice sounded very promising as I had already checked that I wasn't in RAID and AHCI mode, but that he had not changed the "Addon ROM Display Mode".  However, I just checked, and I do NOT have a BIOS for "Addon ROM Display Mode" setting in my BIOS settings in the start menu or anywhere else.  However, thinking maybe it has been disabled, I tried to reload the "setup defaults" and recording.  However, I still could not see not a message from the BIOS RAID, this time enter the BIOS Setup screen by pressing CTRL + I worked!  So I guess that it was charging "setup defaults" in BIOS.  I also noticed with what I could only use CTRL + I to enter the raid bios after a power down and not after a reboot/restart.

Anyway, it seems that the problem is solved so thank you all for the suggestions and help.

  • HOW TO CHANGE SATA to RAID mode (SSD CACHE PROBLEM)

    Hello

I have a HP Envy 4 1054tx Ultrabook with 500 GB drive HARD + SSD of 32 GB. My HARD drive crashed and replaced it with a new one. Unfortunately, my restore disk does not work so I installed fresh new WIN7. I try to use the SSD caching capability of my laptop (which he did before, when I bought it).  Based on the forums I've read, the SSD cache implementation requires that the SATA controller must be set to RAID mode.  However, when I entered the BIOS, there is no option or the configuration that I can use to set SATA RAID my HARD disk mode.  In this regard, I can't meet one of the requirements of SSD caching.  Here are some of my BIOS Setup.  Can you help me please guys how to work on it? I am not convinced, on how my phone performs without SSD caching.

    Thanks in advance.

More than likely if your model is equipped with a hybrid drive, the speed control is already defined with RAID.

  • How to change mini H730P RAID level

    Hello

I read H730P the user guide:

Who mentions the possibility of change of a virtual disk's RAID level, and adding capacity of a virtual disk. However, there are no instructions on how to do it. I looked through all the menus can be found in the BIOS RAID config, I cannot find anything to do with the change of RAID level. I also watched menu iDRAC for storage options.

Can someone point me in the right direction? Currently, I have two physical disks in SAS in a RAID1 and would add more than 3 drives to convert it to a RAID6 and increase capacity.

Install OpenManage Server Administrator, go to storage, PERC, virtual disks and select Reconfigure in drop-down list of tasks available for your table.

  • How to change the AHCI SATA in IDE in Windows 7 Home premium?

Please can someone explain how to change SATA from AHCI to IDE settings in windows 7 Home premium?
I tried to find it in the BIOS options is not there

It is probably not possible to change it if it is in the lock settings.  A possible solution would be to connect the drive to another computer that can be set in IDE mode.  Frankly, I'm skeptical about the value of HDD regenerator.  If the drive has bad sectors, it is best to replace it.
