Checkdisk

A friend of my mother has a Dell and it has projected blue. All I want to do is checkdisk, I tried a boot disk, but it does not work. The blue screen appears just after the start, so I really need to go to the copy of XP on the computer for checkdisk.

Wizard39

It starts in Mode safe?  If so, run Chkdsk from safe mode.

  • Computer will not start after windows checkdisk thing?

My office has gone through a few microsoft checkdisk thing today (16\11\2010), and after that it's over, my com could not start more.

It would be to start all the way until the logo Windows XP there and after loading was done and usually, it would be a blue screen with your user account, but however he just showed a black screen and I waited a certain 20 minutes and nothing happened.

Then, I tried to reboot 10 times over and always to the same black screen.

When I tried the thing Safe Mode would stop any loading at some point of the code, which is

    multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS\system32\DRIVERS\agp440.sys

That's what was on my setup on my desktop that I accessed:

    "Primary Master" > Hitachi HDP72502
    Primary slave > no
    Secondary master > HL - DT - ST GCE-852
    Secondary slave > HL-DT-STDVD-ROM

Basic version of the BIOS > V6.0
    Revision of BIOS 3.25 23/09/2003

Anyone know what is happening and how can I solve this problem?

In the Boot Options menu advanced F8, choose this option and describe the results:

Disable the automatic restart in the event of system failure

Let us know if you do not see this option in the Advanced Boot Options menu.

You will not get far if you can't start something, so if you have a CD/DVD player, do you have a bootable XP Recovery Console in order to have room for manoeuvre, boot on the CD, run chkdsk /r and then you can start solving the problem (instructions below).

You are once started in the Console recovery XP and after running chkdsk/r, then you will be able to see if KB324764 will help you.

Please provide additional information on your system:

What is your system brand and model?

What is your Version of XP and the Service Pack?

Describe your current antivirus and software anti malware situation: McAfee, Symantec, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, MSE, Comodo, etc..

If you have no XP bootable media (or aren't sure you have) create a bootable XP Recovery CD of Console and do not forget.

This is not the same as recovery disks that may have come to a store to purchase the system.

You can make a bootable Recovery Console CD by downloading an ISO file and burn it to a CD.

The ISO bootable image file you need to download is called:

    xp_rec_con. ISO

    Download the ISO from here:

    http://www.mediafire.com/?ueyyzfymmig

Use a new CD and this simple and free program to burn your ISO file and create your bootable CD:

    http://www.ImgBurn.com/

Here are some instructions for ImgBurn:

    http://Forum.ImgBurn.com/index.php?showtopic=61

It would be a good idea to test your bootable CD on a computer running.

You may need to adjust the computer BIOS settings to use the CD-ROM drive as the first device to boot instead of the hard drive.  These adjustments are made before Windows tries to load.  If you miss it, you will need to restart the system again.

When you start on the CD, follow the instructions:

Press any key to boot from CD...

    Installing Windows... going to pronounce.

Press 'R' to enter the Recovery Console.

Select the installation that you want to access (usually 1: C:\WINDOWS)

You may be asked to enter the password (usually empty).

You should be in the folder C:\WINDOWS.  It's the same as the

C:\Windows folder that you see in Solution Explorer.

The Recovery Console allows base as file commands: copy, rename, replace, delete, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr, cd, etc.

For a list of the commands in the Recovery Console, type help at the command prompt.

Start by checking the integrity of your file system by using the chkdsk command.

In the command prompt window, run the chkdsk command on the drive where Windows is installed to try to fix any problems on the afflicted player.

Running chkdsk is fine, even if he finds no problem.  It won't hurt anything to run it.

Assuming your boot drive is C, run the following command:

    CHKDSK C: /r

Let chkdsk finish to correct the problems, he could find.  It may take a long time for chkdsk complete or they seem to be "stuck".  Be patient.  If the HARD drive led blinks always, chkdsk is something.  Keep an eye on the amount of the percentage to be sure that it is still making progress.  It may even seem to go back sometime.

You must run chkdsk/r again until it finds no error to correct.

Remove the CD, and then type "exit" to exit the RC and restart the computer.

You have not to set the BIOS to boot the disk HARD since the CD won't be.

Do, or do not. There is no test.

    Hi,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

From descriptions of the question, it seems that you are unable to run the check disk in your computer.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I'll help you fix the problem.

I see that you have after most of the troubleshooting steps to perform the disk check and are still unable to do so, but I suggest you to check the disk in the command prompt by using the Windows recovery environment (WinRE) to diagnose and solve problems from the link below.

  • Dual boot windows 7 and 8 and checkdisk

    Hi all,

I have these 6 partitions all NTFS (managed by a fantastic Boot Manager Boot it nu metal www.bootitng.com)

    (1) Windows 7 32-bit

    (2) Windows 7 64 bit

    (3) Windows 8 64-bit

    (4) Windows 8 32-bit

    (5) data from the partition

    (6) backup of partition

in my Boot Manager, I have 4 boot options 4 operating systems (partitions 1 to 4), and each boot options is configured to display and use the 5 and 6 partitions.

If I boot from 1 or 2, then in configurations from 1 to 4, I have no problem, but if I boot from 3 or 4 and then I start to 1 or 2, I was asked to start checkdisk in discs 5 and 6. As if windows 8 has left something of 'Sales' in these two partitions.

Have you any idea what it could be and how to solve?

    Thanks in advance

I had problem of HRT with Windows 8 Preview of consumer and was able to fix by disabling the hybrid boot in Windows 8

    In Windows 8

    First open Control Panel.

Click on hardware and sound -> Power Options

Click on 'choose the power button' on the left side.

Click on "change settings that are currently unavailable" later.

Now that you see at the bottom a 'Activate Hybrid Boot' option under settings to shut down Windows. From here you can turn on or off.

I had serious problems with my HP so I ran a disk check. It ran very well, checked everything and the drive was clean, but when I rebooted, it says "check the disc was planned", said and started running it again. I hit a button, but it did not prevent the check disk to run. I turned off the computer and attempted to restart in safe mode, but now it freezes on the screen that reads "loading windows files" when it is at crcdisk.sys.

How can I get my computer to start again. This means there is something wrong with the hard drive?

    Hi Jbldw,

I guess editing the registry can help you with this question.

    1. click on Start, type regedit in the search box start and press to enter.
    2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
       HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute

    1. on the Edit menu, click modify.
    2. type autocheck Hi Jbldw,

I guess editing the registry can help you with this question.

    1. click on start, type regedit in the search box start and press to enter.
    2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager\BootExecute

    1. on the Edit menu, click on change.
    2. type autocheck autochk *, and then press ENTER.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. Hello recently, I scanned a hard drive laptop with some videos about it and froze during the scan, I could not cancel or whatever it is, I use the rest of the operating system could simply not stop the analysis that has been frozen, so I reset the pc, I did hard reset once, next time using the menu would be the one to do the video quality of the videos on the hard drive or just made illegible or deleted them.

Which was just scanning without option enabled.

    Hi Robert,.

This problem could be due to problems with the portable hard drive.

It would be better if you can provide additional information related to the query:

    (1) did you receive an error message when the disk check is stuck?

    (2) what is the brand and model of laptop hard drive?

Normally, it will not interfere with the content of the hard drive. But, I suggest you consult the laptop the hard drive manufacturer's Web site to download a tool to test the State of health of the hard drive.

Please let us know about the results.

  • In win 7, missing menu firefox, toolbars; Unable to access the reset

Using Win 7 64 bit. All of a sudden everything disappeared from firefox except the URL line. When I ran a checkdisk, there was corruption in a bunch of files. May have caused the problem. Went to try the mozilla support reset suggestion. Can't do it because I have no Firefox icon in the upper left to click and so cannot enter in Help menu or anything, except what I can access it through the line of the URL. Cannot find any other advice on what to do. Is Firefox uninstalling and restarting the only answer? Do I lose bookmarks, add ons, etc.? Thank you.

Hello jgdolan, please try to close all firefox windows and then by holding down the SHIFT key while you start again - this will bring up the mode without failure of firefox with the ability to reset the browser.

  • I had a loss of power, and now Firefox does not start on my XinXP machine. In the process of list is firefox.exe, but no window always opens

I have Firefox and Thunderbird - both Act the same. When I double click on the exe icon, a process starts, visible in the Task Manager, but no application ever does appear, in applications, or no appaears window. Both worked earlier today.

Tried the checkdisk - no help.

I uninstalled (in safe mode because the uninstall program wouldn't work either) of the software of the printer, and then reinstalled as.

After that, thunderbird and firefox have both worked very well. Part of Windows must have got dirty up/stuck by being apparently corrupted printing software. Printer icon never showed up. Firefox and Thunderbird must have tried to read printer data at startup and hung out to dry...

I agree with the dealer and the other type of service.
The new installation of the OS would be the best option to solve this problem.
In this case, you would also check if the problem could be related to malfunction of the equipment.

Mentioned service options (fixmbr - fixboot - Bootmgr changes) were a good idea but own facility will be more effective if it comes to the problems of graves of the system and register.

By the way: the laptop should start and run properly using the Live CD (if material isn't affected). Live CD does not access or write files on the HARD drive, which means that even if the HARD drive would be a malfunction, the laptop should work fine running of disk system Live.

First question: How can I run CHKDSK /F I can't do anything because of this anomaly?

Second question: what should I do about this failure/damage?

I hope for one answer meaningfully

    Hello

It seems that the virus has damaged your data structure for Windows cannot start.

This could be repaired by Checkdisk.

Normally, you could start checkdisk in the line of command at the C: prompt, but on your way, this is not possible.

So first try this, when the PC is starting up press the "F8" key and select "Safe Mode with command prompt.

Then type CHKDSK /F and it works!

If you cannot use the option safe mode try this:

If you use a floppy disk or a CD. You can download a W98 or www.bootdisk.info bootable CD boot disk

It has everything you need to start and run checkdisk.
