  A ran chkdsk at windows startup and reported no errors or bad sectors. After that...

  When I started TB, I got the message "TB is already running but is not responding". I clicked on CLOSE THUNDERBIRD and got the message "Cannot load your TB profile." I tried to restart TB and got the same messages.

  Task Manager Windows shows no sign that TB is running. By this, I mean that TB is not displayed in the APPLICATIONS tab, in the PROCESSES tab or in the SERVICES of the Task Manager tab. I acknowledge that I am not totally sure what to look for in APPLICATIONS or SERVICES. But I see TB in the PROCESS tab all the time... except today. Seems strange that TB will report that it runs when the Thunderbird process is not active.

  On a backup image of the system drive, profile.ini is identical to one shown above.

  C:\Users\Owner\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles\269b4km8.default contains what seems to be normal TB profile sufff. (I recognize that I am not sure what is 'normal TB profile things'.) See attachment.

  Thus, the profile is located where (apparently) it should be and it seems to contain valid data.

  Another discussion here recommend to uninstall and reinstall TB. I'm not willing to do this, especially because I do not remember everything that is involved in the re-setup. Is there an alternative?

• Cannot run the CHKDSK - Satellite L40-139 process

  When I start my laptop (Toshiba Satellite L40-139) always starts to run chkdsk

  You can run chkdsk after Windows has started.
  Type in the CMD COMMAND.
  The console should open and there you can use the command * chkdsk *.

  If I were you, I form the systemdisk and reinstall vista, because if your file system is damaged and is not able to repair itself the tools system, then you have some big problems.

  I suggest: backup your important data on key USB, USB - HDD, CD/DVD or something else and reinstall your operating system.

• Satellite A660 - chkdsk partitions without drive letters

  Toshiba computers are equipped with 4 partitions. I looked at the characteristics of the partition by using the following text:
  -Disk management
  -PowerQuest Partition Table Editor
  -Codes of partition Type to the

  The partitions are:

  1. type: 0 x 27 (hidden Windows recovery environment partition)
  Size: 1.46 Gio
  Disk Management labels: healthy (Active partition, Recover)

  2. type: 0 x 07 NTFS
  Size: Hundreds of GiB
  Disk Management labels:
  Healthy (start, page file, crash dump, primary Partition)

  3. type: 0 x 17 (hidden internal file system
  Size: 22.37 GiB
  Disk Management labels: healthy (Primary Partition)

  4. type: 0 x 17 (hidden internal file system
  Size: 12.83 GiB
  Disk Management labels: healthy (Primary Partition)

  I also have a paltry 1.x space unallocated after partition 4 GiB.

  2,3,4 partitions are type 0 x 07 and 0 x 17, which are well described in the http://fixunix.com/help/9334-what-hidden-ifs-e-g-hpfs-0x17.html. Both are internal files (IFSs) systems, but 0x07 redisplays while 0 x 17 is hidden. IFSs appear to be dependent on OS:
  -HPFS (OS/2)
  -NTFS (Windows)
  -Advanced unix or QUNX2. X (pre-1988)

  Trade here and elsewhere, the feeling is that partition 1 is boot & RPS, while scores 3 & 4 are for creating recovery discs (which do not come with the laptop), for the recovery of disk-less in the case where you do not have (or have access to) discs recovery and for other languages versions of recovery. Partition 2 is simply C-drive and contains the operating system. When the ghost images, I use SRP switches for partition 1, and the clone satisfied tests properly, start creating recovery discs and do it without recovery disk.

  1,3,4 partitions have no readers of the letter. So I was wondering if I can still use chkdsk (and if I can do it for all partitions at once, so much the better). I surfed and found info on the award letters to partitions, but this option is grayed out in disk management. I am also concerned by the effects of the assignment of the letters on the functions of these readers. Disk management, partitions, volumes, file systems - things I never really knew subject before having to clone (motivated by a fear of failed to start).

  What model of laptop do you have?
  Are you using the original pre-installed OS?
  Open disk management and please send us the screenshot.

  I put t know why is this so important chkdsk for you but if you want to change something in the structure of the partitions of HARD disk create recovery disc in first.

• Satellite A500-1GL chkdsk does not

  I test the command chkdsk on an A500-1GL and this has not worked for some time. The laptop has been upgraded to SP1 and is W7 HP.

  I tried chkdsk /f /r C: from the command line as administrator and as this by tools-error checking. But on reboot, nothing happens (i.e. I just get a normal restart).

  Any ideas? I would rather not reinstall or repair if possible.

• Satellite P300 - chkdsk reports errors

  From time to time (2 - 3 times a week) the * chkdsk tool runs automatically during startup (all of the dirty bit? why?) - and often he finds a few errors to be corrected - sometimes even resulting in unrecoverable files is then lack when running certain applications.

  Back up all your important data. If something goes wrong with disc HARD you shouldn't lose all your data.
  In my opinion, it is guarantee issue and you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider. They allow to check the HARD drive. If there is a problem, you'll get a new free.

  Try to scan the laptop using the CCleaner. Tool that allows to clean the registry and HARD drive for free.

  I m not very well on the touchpad features because there are different A660 with different hardware and different properties.
  If the mentioned touchpad function supports then you should check if it should already be enabled on the system.
  This, to go to the control panel-> mouse-> device-> settings settings tab (maybe the properties).

  In any case, you should find all the options that are supported by the touchpad software.

  It's not easy to say what the problem is.

  On the Toshiba website, I founded a updated firmware for drives optical drives in Satellite A210.
  Then, look at the Toshiba site and try this update of the firmware if you have such a unit.

  I assume that you have enabled the service chkdsk under properties of the HARD drive.
  If you have activated the chkdsk in Windows you need to restart the device and after restarting again the blue screen should appear a the chkdsk must begins.

  In my opinion you simply restart your device after the start of the chkdsk command.

• HP 4540 s Win7 Pro 64 - bit daily CHKDSK errors - multiple verified as good HDD/SSD tested

  I bought this HP4540s in nine late 2013 and out of the box I started noticing errors CHKDSK.  Never, has crashed or hung from a few mistakes that were always repairable, system went very well, no problems of speed, etc..  Scans of the complete area of the donnГ (Hitichi 750gig, 7200 RPM) HDD, zero Issus with the reader.  A few months later, I removed a SSD of Sandisk Pro 256gig older DV6000 laptop which has worked perfectly and cloned the installation disc in the 4540 s.  After installation, the same thing began to happen, except worse.  About once a day, 12-16 h continuous operation the system will become insensitive, SSD/HDD light lights up at 100% for about a minute and then turns off.  A minute or so later, I either get a BSOD or re-boot system itself and then try to connect to a DHCP source, most likely because the BIOS can't see the SSD.  A second power button (4) it turns off then turn it back on I get the windows was closing incorrctly screen and I just choose Start Windows normally and everything is OK, but usually, but not always I still errors CHKDSK and sometimes damaged, files until I had to reinstall the applications.  The HDD and SSD run perfectly on other computers.  I'm starting to wonder if I have a problem with the main channel of SATA or a chipset problem I want to solve this problem before the warranty expires and it turns out that I need a motherboard replaced.  Someone at - it advice/tests I can try on this thing for this track.  It is slowly eating my files away next day (yes I have 6 months, image files on the disc recorded in the case where and create new ones often but probably backup of files damaged at this point - has found an old pdf file yesterday, which has been altered - thank God for image files).  I have not tried a 3rd disc because I do not see since the (2) I work with work very well in other machines and test perfectly wise sector.  The problem gets worse as you push harder data on primary SDD/HDD.  Some mornings, I'll get put into hibernation and it will crash in minutes (not associated with heat it), restart it and its OK for the day, maybe later down in the evening but usually once a day, very intermittent but always reproducible.  No excessive processor, in fact zero not problems with the thing when its work; system is lightening fast with the SSD, but mistakes happen more often then with a tray more that points me again to a chipset or problem Channel SATA SSD can load the SATA channel so much harder than the flat disc never could.  Also, just an observation, the question seems more prevelent in operations that remove a large number of files such that empty the collector recycled with a couple of hundreds of files in the trash.  I have 2 of these laptops 4540 s, the other is my wife and it is basically the same cycle.  I saw not a single error CHKDSK on this laptop so far.  The only difference in the machines is it has a 750gig 7200 RPM WD Black HDD.  Also, I have an external drive 1 terabyte 7200rmp on one of the 24/7 port USB3 who reads/writes concerts and gigs of data per day (media center activity - recording DVR units) and there has NEVER been a CHKDSK error or however it's storage only, no OS.  There is no heat problem at all.  The CPU even with Media Center HD recording is less than 10% with CPU @ 1.2gig clock, in other words, a fast idle.  The system also works in office extended with a second large LCD.

• Disorder of CHKDSK Scandisk in XP

  After you delete a large number of files on my X 61 to 100 GB with XP Pro, I have a defrag may be in order. However Diskeeper Lite has indicated that "the CHKDSK command is attached to work on the preload (C". ")" Restart the machine to run CHKDSK gave error C: could not be mounted because it was in use. ScanDisk gives the same problem at startup. So I'm now stuck in an infinite loop where defrag cannot be done because chkdsk cannot be run. Either by the way, the HARD disk, control of routine in the Bios indicates the drive is in great shape.

  This seems to be a common problem in XP, but I find no answer to the question. Anyone here has a solution before you reinstall Windows (suggested by support Lenovo BTW).

  I tried several times. No luck. However I solved at the time of running chkdsk problem and obtained at least. I ran msconfig and went to the boot.ini tab and set the system to boot in safe mode. CHKDSK runs allowed. He found a few minor errors. To restart, I was able to run the defrag program.

• CHKDSK error after replacing screen

  I have an old T60, I am preparing to give to my mother. To get this loan, I have replaced the screen SXGA + dead with a XGA almost nine. Everything went well, the new screen is beautiful and probably better for my mother, since there res more weak and so large icons. However, after that I turned it back on, I continued to get a message at startup saying that one of the disks should be checkd, and he then started very well.

  I try to run chkdsk two or three times, and he acted like he had to do, but after a few seconds he said "chkdsk cancelled" and started normally. I went into the BIOS and run the drive test utility, but it doesn't give me any errors or problems, it just say something like "the disk was read" after a few hours.

  If this could have something to do with the new screen? If the driver for the old screen is originally a mistake because the new screen is a different resolution?

• Extremely slow CHKDSK on external Drobo B1200i connected to a Windows 2003 Server)

  (I have a Drobo B1200i related to an unresolved external server) windows 2003 Server), with 9 x 4, double redundancy to discs. The scoreboard shows that all drives are healthy. The player has 2 LUNs. One of the units is 16TO and used to store data, some are small files and some are large files. We found errors when you try to save this logical unit, which prompted running chkdsk. Run us CHKDSK G:/x/f/r it was launched on 22 may at 18:00. He ran steps 1-3 to 25 may, making hundreds of repairs (deleting entry index... recovery of file... orphans replacing non-security IDS valid... Insert the attribute data to place...)

  He has been blocked since May 25 (for 3.5 days) 60% of the step 4 of 5, moving very slowly. Currently, it reads "(14191283 of 20660608 processed files) all 60 percent" the number of processed files remains to be the same number of hours and moves upward then 5000 files and then a few hours left in the same issue for others... At this rate, it may take 3-4 months at the end!

  My questions are the following:

  1 - is it normal to take this amount of time with the large disk like mine (16 TB)?

  2. is there a risk of data loss if I stop it now?

  3. is there a chance that what has already been solved during the early stages is all that was needed, and that interrupts it the process now will be harmless?

  4. If I stop the process now and errors persist, and I decide to run CHKDSK again, it run faster for the early stages and get to the current point faster than the 6 days it has taken to get this far? or it will take another 6 days to join the current point?
