Cisco ACS and Pix Firewall

I have configured the aaa authentication in the pix firewall to see the ACS RADIUS Server for verification of the user. If the ACS server becomes unavailable, then I could not connet the pix firewall.

In the router, I have the configuration option

AAA authentication login default group Ganymede + local

that tells the router first looking for a radius server and if is not available connect through the local database.

Is there an option in the Cisco pix firewall to connect using local information if ACS is not available?

Thanks in advance

Hello

PIX back up method to entered the unit in the event of server failure aaa works on 6.3.4 code and above. In the codes plus late 6.3.4 If the RADIUS server fails it is impossible to get in unless password recovery. "However if we have not configured for console aaa authentication than user name: pix and password: cisco" works by default.

Kind regards

    Hello

We are conducting currently a problem with Cisco ACS that we put in place, and I'll try to describe:

We have ACS related directory AD areas, where we have 2 domains and appropriate group mappings.

Then we have our Cisco switches with the following configuration,

    AAA new-model

    AAA-authentication failure message ^ CCCC

    Failled to authenticate!

Please IT networks Contact Group for more information.

    ^ C

AAA authentication login default group Ganymede + local

AAA authorization exec default group Ganymede + local

AAA authorization network default group Ganymede + local

AAA accounting exec default start-stop Ganymede group.

orders accounting AAA 15 by default start-stop Ganymede group.

    !

AAA - the id of the joint session

But the problem is that with the users in a domain, we can authenticate, but not the other. Basically, the question is that when we check on the past of authentication, two authentications are passage and the display of 'Authentic OK', but on the side of the switch, there is a power failure.

There may be something wrong with the ACS?

  • Integration of Cisco ACS and Cisco NAC Manager - downloadable ACLs

    Hello

I have Setup Cisco NAC in my environment. These are all works well. The users themselves will get authenticated via Cisco NAC Manager. The Cisco NAC Manager meets with Cisco ACS for the part of the user database. These are all works well. I would like to activate downloadable ACLs. I tried to use the CISCO-AV-PAIR method and creating a downloadable ACL entry in the shared components, but nothing works. It's either I'm doing wrong or this configuration of the mine does not support downloadable ACLs? Please advice kindly.

    Hello

    It is not possible.

You cannot push the ACL in the NAC manager.

If you make the Radius of NAC authentication manager, you can do is create roles the NAC Manager, and on the roles you define traffic strategies.

Using the Radius attributes you can then map users to roles.

Please, take a look at this:

  • Issue of ARP and PIX firewall

I have a PIX 515, which is the static NAT translations (using the static entries and alias). I have a remote access server running Citrix. We had some problems connecting to this server internally. I found that when I ping, 9 out of ten trials is expires after the first attempt. When I do a "arp / has" my workstation it is back with the MAC address of the internal interface of my PIX. If I try to ping and manually, disable my arp cache after ten or more attempts is correctly will ping the right device - and then go immediately to the MAC of PIX address. This configuration is a fairly standard for us. What could be wrong?

Looks like the PIX meets MAC address ARP queries the Citrix servers. Turn off the proxy ARP on the PIX inside interface with:

  • What is the difference between Cisco NAC and ACS?

I am currently part of a new construction project and my Cisco account manager and sales engineer recommend Cisco NAC for our new MDF. I'm confused because I don't clearly know the difference between a Cisco ACS and the NAC. What is the difference?

    Thank you

    Chris

    Chris,

The two are completely different, maybe the sales rep could present you with more information and application. Each offers a variety of services tailored to the specific needs. I think that we need to read more in depth on the proceeds of the NAC. NAC seems an excellent solution for authentication authorization but other regulatory compliance.

When you see ask your representative to sales for more information/demo.

ACS is more widely use as a central point to access control to network devices routers, an example is for acs accounting management and the authority to order on all devices on the network using acs as RADIUS server. Considering that the NAC is over a central point of safety inspection on earlier systems of access to your network by via LAN or outside, an example of these respected regulatory defined could be inspections could be virus definition checks before getting lan access thus preventing access to the LAN if the system does not have regulatory compliance defined in NAC access is denied. Another example could be the unknown local host connections etc... So, it seems that NAC is a much broader product that provides endpoint security internal, not only the authentication authorization as acs... ACS has been there for a long time, NAC is rather new product.

  • With the help of Cisco ACS 5.2 (GANYMEDE +) with other than Cisco devices

    Hi all

I was hoping that someone could help me with what might be a silly question. I'm trying to implement a solution whereby an operator can control all their nodes (other than Cisco) network via GANYMEDE + involved nodes are

    Juniper M10i running Junos 9.2, M120

    M320 running Junos 8.5 Juniper

Extremes of BD8810 and BD8806 running 12.4.1.17 XOS

3804 Alpine extreme Extremeware 7.8.3.5 running

My question is, can I use Cisco ACS 5.2 (or 4.2) to authenticate using GANYMEDE + to these other than Cisco devices. Has anyone else done this or I have to use RADIUS? If someone has done this are problems of interoperability with Cisco CS and Junos or XOS extreme. Thank you

    / John

    John,

We have a very large deployment of Juniper (T-series, series MX, etc.). We use Cisco ACS and GANYMEDE to manage these devices. The configuration of the ACS is fairly simple. You'll want to create users to connect and match them to the classes on your JUNOS routers. Here is an example:

set system login user uid of engineering 2000
Set system login user engineering genius-class class
set the connection user uid to NOC 2001 System
Set system login user AC AC-class class

    define the system connection Engineering-class idle-timeout 15
define a connection system class engineering-class permissions all
    define the system connection AC-class idle-timeout 15
define the connection class AC system class view permissions
Set connection AC-class permissions see the system configuration

We use two classes of genius and NOC. One is defined as a read / write and the second read-only. This is in turn then mapped in ACS (in our case version 4.2) by user or group (preferred). First, you change the configuration of the interface and add a Ganymede junos-exec service and do not enter the Protocol field. Then, you change the attributes of the user group. I've attached screenshots for both on this subject.

    Hope this helps.

  • Cisco ACS 4.2: The most important to back up files?

    Dear Sir

Can you tell me what are the most important files to back up in the Cisco ACS directory?

Currently, I am only backup (with Symantec Backup Exec):

    C:\Program Files\CiscoSecure ACS v4.2\CSAuth\System backups

    * But, I would like to know if my server crash, can I restore the entire configuration with the files listed in the directory below? (Users, groups, groups of devices, AD, mapping, users, groups,...)

    * The Cisco ACS there change in the Windows registry?

    * Is it necessary to reinstall the Cisco ACS, if I need to put in an emergency on a new server? I guess Yes, because the installation creates services, etc.

I ask this question because it takes time to install the patches...

    * Or, can I save all the Cisco ACS directory... On a new server, install the Cisco ACS and restore the backup?

Thank you very much for giving me your experience about it.

    Kind regards

You should back up the files that come from ACS backups, i.e.

System configuration > backup GBA, the location that is specified in this section.

And the default location is the one that already save for example "C:\Program Files\CiscoSecure ACS v4.2\CSAuth\System backups"

In case you are required to host ACS on a new server, you would be required to re - install the complete application of the CSA and then simply take the last backup and restore in the newly installed ACS. It will be to restore everything users, group etc. to etc. of the external database mappings.

When you install ACS on a new server, then make sure that if you run them Services ACS with a service account (this is required for the authentication of the window according to your requirement), you would be required to run new services with this account too, and which may require that go you through the following documentation.

  • [Cisco ACS] 11036 the RADIUS Message Authenticator attribute is invalid

    Hello

I had a lot of Cisco AP related to Cisco WLC 2.

On each WLC, I configured a primary and a secondary RADIUS server.

RADIUS servers are Cisco ACS 5.2.0.26 (patch 10)

ACS primary and secondary configurations are synchronized.

There is no problem between primary rules WLC and Cisco ACS (primary and secondary).

When secondary WLC asks primary Cisco ACS, I get this error "11036 the RADIUS Message Authenticator attribute is not valid.

WLC secondary contacts automatically secondary Cisco ACS and it works fine.

Cisco ACS description for this error: "this can be reason of mismatched shared Secrets."

The two Cisco ACS are synchronized, so I should have the same error on them...

Why primary ACS generates this error?

    Thanks for your help,

    Patrick

Patrick: The shared secret mismatch could be on the side WLC, not on the side of the ACS.

Make sure that the shared secret of the radius primary server is configured correctly on the secondary WLC.

  • Cisco ACS 5.2 authentication and authorization processes

I am designing a network and I asked me a few questions that I don't know how respond to those so I thought putting it in the forum to see if I can get help.

First, thank you very much for reading this post and thank you if you can add comments to help out me.

    installation program:

Two ACS on each center data in Server and application to the switches by dc + hybrid mode the Ganymede and fold to the other on the failure scenario.

ACS - version 5.2 planning upgrade to 5.8, if she is stable.

    Result of the will

If users fails authentication AD then it should be rejected.

If defective AD on ACS and ACS needs to check the other ACS and other ACS has connection AD, then it should demand more diver ACS...

I'm sure it is not possible, but that it was the main application... I disputed so now the new request

If AD fails ACS should fall back to the local database. If the local database is not authenticte then it should allow to switch to interrogate the same request of ACS secondary rather then to reject the application.

Litt: local database is reserved for the network admin but maybe some contractor need to access switches and other devices and they will have the entry in listing so if fails AD, they can always authenticates agaist DC2 AD via DC2 ACS.

    I think to set up

Authentication rule 1 - authenticate again AD,

    If authentication failed - Reject

If usernot has been found - reject

If the process failed - continue

This should take by default which will be the internal database.

    If authentication failed - Reject

If the user has not found - drop

If the process failed - drop

This should give no answer to switch and then switch should try the second radius server in the list...

Please someone explain this flow chart for me... and it's correct assumptions...

I would like to know if there are a few good diagram that I can refer to see the whole process and can use in my presentation...

Thank you very much for reading and you answer it...

    Hello

I'm not sure I get your question, but I will try to answer in the way that I understood.

If you send a drop as a result, this means that ACS deposited the request, causing the AAA client to try again another failure on toward another AAA server.

  • Cisco ACS 5.1 and RSA Authentication Manager 6.1

    Hi all

We recently had a Cisco Secure ACS 1120 and I improved the Unit 5.1 5.0 with all your support

Now, I need to integrate Cisco ACS 5.1 with RSA Authentication Manager 6.1. I have config file of RSA ACE Server successfully downloaded and exported to 1120 ACS.

I also added as NetOS Agent ACS in the RSA server during the process, I found a few warnings. The ACE Server is not able to resolve the IP address to the name (is it necessary?).

I have not created any file of secret key for communication between FAC and RSA and I used encryption is FOR.

Now, when I log into ACS and search for devices in the identity store sequences I am not able to get Sever Token RSA.

Let me know what was wrong, where can I fix and also please tell me what is the communciaction between the RSA and ACS?

Hoping that you guys help me as usual when I'm in a hurry...

    Sree

Were you able to successfully create the RSA identity server. After selecting the sdconf.rec and you press on submit what happened? The RSA instance created OK?

    If you go to

Users and identity stores > external identity stores > RSA SecurID Token servers, what do you see in the list?

  • Cisco ACS 5.1 and ASA SSL VPN change or notify the expired password

    Hello

Now, my ACS and ASA related to RADIUS (MSCHAPv2). I've set up password life on GBA and password management on SAA. But Cisco ASA did prompt change or whatever it is to notify when the user tries to log on with Clientless SSL VPN. Could you advice me everything to change, or notify the expired password?

    PS.

I check change password on the first login of th on ACS this confirmation of the ASA to change password dialog box. But I want change or warn when the expired password

    Thank you

The default password is marked as disabled after expiry

I think that there is an improvement for this in the 5.2.0.26.2 patch and above, which includes the following:

CSCtk32168: Add an option to change the password when the password expires (T + and Radius)

After you install this hotfix, you get an option to the user authentication settings is:

    -Disable the user account

    -Expire the password

When the expiration period is exceeded

If password is expired then user will be asked to change password next authentication

Note this latest patch for 5.2 is 5.2.0.26.4. All patches are cumulative

  • The upgrade to Cisco ACS SE and Remote Agent

    Hello

Currently we are upgrading the PDC to Windows Server 2008, Standard Edition R2.

I am little confused with information available for upgrade scenarios. Appearing on the current working versions.

    Cisco ACS SE - version 4.1 Build 23 5 Patch 1

Cisco ACS Remote Agent version 4.2 (0.124)

The new operating system will work on 64-bit, I think that the current ACE SE and the remote agent can / must be upgraded.

My existing versions, give the possible scenarios of upgrade available for me. After that upgraded SE and Remote Agent should work for the 64 bit OS.

    Thanks in advance!

Yes, it is not possible to upgrade the ACS ACS 5.2 existing to level 4.1. They are two different boxes run on a different platform.

Unfortunately ACS 4.x does not support windows 2008 r2.

5.2 ACS is the only option left, and you will need to buy a new box of seprate with the new licnese for this.
