  • Computer running very slow for macOS

Since I've upgraded to Mac OS this morning, my computer barely works.  I frequently get beach balls, and even simple tasks take minutes where they used to take seconds.

It's an iMac of 2011 with 4 GB of memory.

    Difficulty installing Sierra

Try each of them in order. A test to see if the computer works properly:

    1. Reset the PRAM
    2. Reset the controller (SMC) system management
    3. Start the computer in Safe Mode, and then restart normally. It's slower than a standard home.
    4. Repair the disk by booting to the HD recovery immediately after that the chime press the command and R keys until the Utility Menu appears. Choose disk utility and click on the continue button. Select the withdrawal (usually Macintosh HD) volume entry in the list to one side.  Click first aid button in the toolbar. Wait the fact button appear. Disk utility and return in the Utility Menu. Restart the computer from the Apple Menu.
    5. Reinstall OS X by booting from the Recovery HD using the command and R keys. When the Utility Menu appears, select reinstall OS X and then click on the continue button.

Nothing really stood out in the report of EtreCheck as a cause of poor results.

  • "kernel_task"?

What is the file "kernel_task" which appears on my activity monitor and takes as much memory? I am running OS El Capitan on an iMac 2009. And it is very slow.

It's basic routines for OS X that are used for all software running on your computer. It is not a file but a process represented by all subroutines called by all software that uses core tasks. It does not run slow and it uses a lot of space. Don't worry about this. If your computer is slow is not the reason unless the kernel_task crashed.

  • Another 10.9.5 slow...

After the upgrade, a few days ago, the system goes for about 10-15 min and Caryl, beach balls and is terribly slow. I have "purged sudo" cache, turned off Spotlight as a test (not not indexing issue apparently) zapped VRAM, ran the disc utilities, etc. Here is my production of EtreCheck.

    Thanks for any idea:

  • Slow... MacBook Pro 13 inch early 2011

    Hello

I am running Yosemite.  My MacBook works but its extremely slow.  It takes forever for my photos to show and I have not even tried to use my Garageband recently because his frustration.

    It works well.

Is there any type of memory that I can add to speed it up. (if this is a stupid question so please excuse my ignorance)

It would help to upgrade to the latest operating system?

Also, for some reason, the calendar is not sync with my iPhone.  Photos are but not the calendar, even though I have all calendar checked in the settings.

Thanks for any help that comes my way.  In the past, assistance from these focus groups was incredibly useful!  Thanks for your time,

Do not upgrade OS X until you discover and fix what is wrong now. If you do then things can only get worse.

  • MacBook pro 2011 very slow to load anything, download applications, installation of El Capitan...

I am a computer scientist, to work on a Macbook Pro 9.2 A1286 2010 client; I found first of all that it would not recognize the HD. Then, of course, first a PRAM reset.

Still no hard drive. So I ran Apple Hardware Diags, he finds that everything was fine... but he did not check the drive, because he did not either.

So I swapped the HD for the nine existing. Still no joy. Then, I tried the optical drive SATA port using a trolley car, and it worked.

So, now I think to myself, I just need to replace the original HDD SATA cable.

But in the meantime, I now use this optical drive SATA port to install an operating system.

So I'm intstalling El Capitan... and he's going VERY slowly... said 27 minutes left, then after even 30 minutes, it says 26 remaining minutes... even for every minute of time estimated to the left. Hours trying to install what should move a lot more quickly. Two SATA ports run at the same speed, so that wouldn't make any difference.

I have about 20 + Mbps download speed, and I d/l El Cap several times before on this same bandwidth and it goes as one might expect.

Also, I noticed in trying to engage around all preparation of the installation, everything seemed to be in slow motion, with a lot of time-outs of spinning, before of the OS responds... even trying just to get the pop down menu, etc. It is a system with no operating system, just off the coast of the temp install DVD or USB operating system installed.

The summary is that something in the firmware seems to be wrong. I find that there is a SMC and EFI up-to-date, but who can not install without the latest OS, so the attempt to d/l El CAP.

I'm looking for light bulbs go out there as to what might slow down this computer that doesn't even have a hard drive running an OS yet?

Thanks in advance for any input you may have.

  • Update of os x Lion 10.7.5 to?

I have a purchased iMac mid-2011 and I currently have OSX Lion 10.7.5 (11E63).  I recently got messages saying that I need to update by browser for security reasons.  Can someone tell me if it's time to update my operating system and, if so, how can I go about it?  I recently updated the memory of 8 GB, but sometimes my computer works a little more slowly.

It's pretty easy. See the following topics:

    Upgrade to El Capitan

You can pass the Lion El Capitan or directly from Snow Leopard. El Capitan can be downloaded for FREE from the Mac App Store.

    Upgrade to El Capitan

To upgrade to El Capitan, you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or installed Lion. Download El Capitan from the App Store. Sign in with your Apple ID. El Capitan is free. The file is big enough, more than 5 GB, allow it some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.

Mac that can be upgraded to OS X El Capitan

1 iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later

2 MacBook (late 2008 or early 2009 or newer aluminium) - model identifier 5.1 or later

    3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

4 MacBook Air (late 2008 or newer)- model identifier 2.1 or later

5 mac mini (early 2009 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

6 mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)- model identifier 3.1 or later version

7 Xserve (early 2009) - model identifier 3.1 or later version

To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

  • Startup MacBook Pro-comment problems prevent health going to disk/check once again

My 13 inch Macbook Pro running OSX 10.9.5 (said mid-2012, but it was purchased in fall 2014) has had problems starting

A few weeks ago the computer is stuck on the loading screen (white, with the Apple and the buffering of spinning icon) without marketing properly. After you have manually turned off and left for a long time he worked well on the next test, so I took care of it has been saved and so didn't think much, and it works pretty well in recent weeks, sometimes being a little slow but that very occasionally and not debilitatingly so and it probably is not related to this problem.

This morning it was still once stuck on the loading screen, and try again in 5 or 6 times solves nothing. The VRAM reset did not help either. After an attempt to boot into safe mode (filled a little progress bar then disappeared and the computer continued to buffer without purpose), I once again reset the NVRAM and tried a different boot safe mode, with the same results. But this time I left it half an hour or so and on the next attempt (start normally) it miraculously worked a new and everything seems functional. After a new backup with a preparation period slightly extended backup (at least half an hour on the first abandoned attempt, then at least 15 minutes, until correct on the second trial has started), although it is common on my computer, I have enough fear turn the computer off and tempt fate again, if I want to see what can be done now.

What should I do to check the health of the disk, potentially fix it, find out why this is happening and avoid this problem again in the future?

I decided to watch from the disk utility and am confused by the Setup program. There is an 'APPLE HDD Media HTS541010A9E662' entry in the list, with a "MacIntoshHD" paragraph below, and both have different information displayed... I ran check disk on the higher level entry and it seems to be out very well ("the Volume Recovery HD seems to be OK"), but I haven't run one on the low level input as it says my computer may be "slow and unresponsive" while doing so, and I'm not entirely sure of what use there.

It cannot be storage associated with as I stil have 610 gb of free 1 terra (although a large part of what I have (130 GB) is in the other category for a reason any).

My computer is incredibly slow most of the time. Is not an expert in this field, I google and discovered CleanMyMac 3 and downloaded because it had a good rating on CNET. While it has deleted unnecessary files, I can't say that he did a lot with the memory and the slowness of my computer. I have lots of storage. I do not use anything like Photoshop. Usually the most I do is listen to Spotify or Amazon Music (he said would not be a problem one Apple when I bought it). When my computer is running slow, I leave Spotify (not just close the window) or Amazon nearby. Often I need to open Microsoft Word with Safari while working on a ballot in permanent Contact. I tend to keep multiple tabs open in safari so I shut them down when I noticed. Often quit all applications non-Safari, including Spotify and closing all but one or two tabs in Safari still do not help. I understand that Apple solders the 4 GB to the motherboard (or whatever that it's called... I'm no expert), making it impossible to upgrade memory. What choices do I have? Help, please!

Since you can't upgrade RAM, you should minimize the use of all that is not essential so that you do not have too many concurrent processes. This is what causes the computer to get finally subdued. In addition, get rid of my own Mac. You don't need, and it's a waste of money and memory. Don't forget to use the uninstaller if she a. Removing the application removes all other files that it installs.
