As their was anything important stored on the computer I decided to reset the computer hoping that would solve the problem.

I followed the instructions and the computer seems to be going through the motions to reinstall when he got stuck in a loop of

    Hello Fiona-s,

Thanks for posting in the Forum of Support HP!

I'm afraid that the HARD drive has failed - the question is material one and all simply restore/reinstall will not solve it. Yes, you need to replace the HARD disk new or better with the SSD. SSDS are up to 10 times faster than hard drives:

There are more than 100 manufacturers and sellers SSD, but personally, I would choose Samsung, Intel, Toshiba, or OCZ ones.

Microsoft Windows 7, 8.1, and 10 have supported for SSDS. Vista and XP - no

You will need a recovery media to restore the windows once you have installed the new SSD or HARD disk.

You can get possible by contacting HP Support. Here's how:

    Hello

Error code confirms a full disk Self Test (dst) failure and would indicate that the drive needs to be replaced - often, the reason for which a failed disk will boot mode safe's just down there is less charge read/write when running like that.

  • Spectrum XT: Long DST failed: failure id: RLL6W2-68T6R1-XD7X1F-61E003

Have a spectrum XT running Windows 7. All software/updates are up to date. It's one year and 2 weeks (just went out of warranty). Suddenly started blue get screens and PC will turn off. Run the HP System Diagnostics basic test. Memory passed. Past of intelligent control. Got the following error for DST Long: failure id: RLL6W2-68T6R1-XD7X1F-61E003.

If I turn off the PC will come up often, it will turn off after 10 minutes. When I can get all apps to open. Outlook seems to hang really.

Any suggestions on how to fix. FYI, am a retired hpar.

The failure of the long DST indicates the hard disk has failed or is about to fail. The only solution is to replace the hard drive with a new and recovering your computer to a factory State. Recovery of your computer can be accomplished with the support of HP or USB Flash recovery discs that you created when you first set up your computer.

  • HP Pavilion p71414: Long DST failed

    Hello

No, it means that the hard disk will fail or already has.

    You will need:

1 replacement drive HARD similar to the existing order.

    2. recovery media to reinstall the HP factory image or an image of your system on the external backup media and a boot or USB drive.

If you do not back up data, it may be lost forever. You may be able to access the bad HDD and recover data.

  • Compaq CQ58-201SU

    Hello

    I have a compaq CQ58-201SU.

    What happened:

I tried to reinstall windows. Current vesion was Win8.

New Windows disk is Pro 8.1.

It gave me an error message saying the following:

"Windows cannot be installed to this disk. the selected disk is a MBR partition table. The EFI, Windows system cannot be installed on GPT disks.

I was about to download Gparted on a USB key to set the partition type.

Tried it once more just to make sure it wasn't a mistake.

Laptop computer willl no longer starts or won't let me not even get into the BIOS.

Caps and screen black lock blinkig twice between breaks. -(HP FAQ thead, it is an indication for corrupted BIOS).

Tried the Reset Hard Power. (Remove the battery, press and hold the power button for 15 sec, put the battery back on, alternative current summer)-did not work.

I tried a BIOS reset. (Press Windows key + B first and then press the button for a second, while now the other keys, then release them together) - tried several times, nothing happens.

Someone has an idea, what do I do next?

I solved my problem by following these steps.

    Removed the battery.

Removed the two rear panels covering the WiFi card + RAM and HDD bay.

    The deleted BIOS battery.

    WAITED 5 minutes.

    Put everything back together.

Startup. > Get message to reset the BIOS.

    Reset.

    Now, everything is normal.

    Hello

No matter if update 8 - also long as 10 Windows activated successfully, you can use the "clean installation" method

It is possible that if the machine had just been "updated", the hard stop interrupted files system updated and this can lead to this kind of question.

As a general rule, a clean installation of Windows 10 has less problems problems/performance than the upgrade from a previous version of Windows.
