Concern BIOS/MBR Virus

To rid my computer of a persistent virus, I took the following steps:

1. removal of infected hard drive.

2. removed battery CMOS (about 2 hours).

3. new CMOS battery.

4 installed new hard drive.

5 installed OS with factory records.

After that I turned on my PC, the display revealed some information about the new hard disk with a message indicating a "checksum" and "CMOS crash."  Maybe I'm wrong, but I understand this message as "the unpleasant thing that may have infected my BIOS... crashed too!

Delited, I inserted my recovery disc system, which has installed the operating system on my new hard drive.

I'm not an advanced COMPUTER expert, just someone looking to learn.  After reading a lot of information on the subject of "Flashing the BIOS", I am more confused.  I'd sincerely appreciate ideas about my situation.

About the virus, it is best to assume that it is "more persistent.

* Also... If it is recommended to "Flash BIOS", which is possible by using the system recovery discs?  And if I have to, at this stage I will also fix the MBR?

  • How to report a scam to Microsoft concerning Vista Security virus

    Hello

Yesterday, while I was on my computer all of a sudden, I was bombarded with a message that appeared to be from Microsoft.  He told me that my computer was in trouble.  He says it's the security of Vista.  He wouldn't let me not use anything on the computer and said I had a Trojan virus.  He also said that I had to buy a fix for this.

I called my son, who is very wise in the substance of the computer, so talk about th.  He came, looked at him and said that one of its computers had the same problem. but that was it for Windows XP, there.  He went home, got a disc with something I think that loaded malicious software in my computer, and he took care of the virus called.

He told me that this happened for a while and it is certain that Microsoft is aware of it.  I have an antivrus program, but he told me that some of the terrible things that are sent are move the normal programs.

My question is: do you know about, and if you do, why are you not protect us from him?  If the malicious software can do it, I'm sure you can.

I look forward to hearing from you in this regard.

    Sincerely,

  • How can I make Firefox stop downloads for a virus scan?

Whenever I download something, especially the smaller .torrent files, Firefox or .jpg scan virus download. In theory, it's a good thing. In practice, at least for me, that means my browser is blocked as long as 2 minutes (average is closer to 10 seconds) while it scans the file that I have ZERO concern about a virus in the first place. Now, it is quite possible that because I'm not a nerd of the game my computer is 'slow' by elitist standards (2 GHz is slow? 2 MB of RAM is slow?), but that is neither here nor there; I want this 'service' gone and I want it gone now.

You can disable the Firefox application for the downloaded file to scan.

    1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press to enter.
    2. Accept the warning message that appears, this will then bring up a list of preferences.
    3. In the filter box, type scan
    4. Double-click on the
      browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone

preference to change its value false

This procedure stops just Firefox asking that the file is analyzed, your antivirus software is likely to scan downloaded files, especially executable files. If you want to disable this analysis (not recommended), you should check the settings of your antivirus software.

  • Partition missing at startup Bootcamp

I have a Mid 2012 Macbook Pro and I can't seem to be able to start on my Windows partition. I've been running Windows 10 (Windows 7 Pro upgrade) on a 1 TB HARD drive. This problem only comes to happen, after starting to install Bootcamp on another SSD installed in my optical Bay. List of events:

    1. Replace my optical drive with an SSD using an Optibay MSE adapter
    2. Winclone to create an image of my current bootcamp partition
    3. Downloaded an ISO of Windows 10 image on my bootcamp partition
    4. The Boot Camp Assistant, used to create a Setup disk with the drivers on a USB key is empty
    5. Wizard Boot Camp, trying to install Windows 10 on the new SSD
    6. Installation is complete, but on reboot, started to black white screen
    7. Attempt to restart and booted to a black screen with flashing underscore concerns
    8. Initialized to Mac and shaped something was not right, so reformatted the new SSD to FAT
    9. Tried to boot into the old partition Boot camp, only to start on white screen
    10. Disconnected from other SSDS, as suspected, he was causing problems (do not do anything)
    11. Attempt to restore the winclone image of old partition backup
    12. Winclone restoration resulted in creating an EFI disc, as well as what looks like my old drive BOOTCAMP.
    13. Tried to restart in the TRAINING camp from boot disk, which brings me to a black screen with flashing line of underscore.

This brings me to now. I have the feeling that I messed up the partition table. When you hold the option at boot, I am only offered Macintosh HD, EFI startup and recovery - 10.10. Any idea what I can do to successfully start windows?

Wizard Boot Camp, trying to install Windows 10 on the new SSD

EFI boot that is used to install on the SSD drive? Your subsequent statement on EFI boot indicates that is the case, but need to confirm.

Initialized to Mac and shaped something was not right, so reformatted the new SSD to FAT

Tried to boot into the old partition Boot camp, only to start on white screen

What is expected. Each disc has it's own independent EFI. BCA is updating the EFI to disk0, pointing to the SSD, which deleted you. It is impossible to boot EFI Windows since the 1 TB HARD drive. BIOS/MBR is a completely different path.

Disconnected from other SSDS, as suspected, he was causing problems (do not do anything)

What is still expected. See previous explanation.

Attempt to restore the winclone image of old partition backup
Winclone restoration resulted in creating an EFI disc, as well as what looks like my old drive BOOTCAMP.

Winclone has the ability to restore EFI or MBR. It depends on the model. Your specific model supports both approaches. You can check this by using the Applications-> utilities-> Console and type "Winclone' at the top of the search page to the right area, then check the logs. She restored EFI, which is why you see Boot EFI when using Alt/Opt.

Tried to restart in the TRAINING camp from boot disk, which brings me to a black screen with flashing line of underscore.

This because EFI boot is now the problems causing the GPU. Yours is a 13 inch or a MBP 15 - in?

FYI - the system and software came pre-installed & I don't think they gave me a CD with XP on it, so a solution that doesn't require you to put the CD in the dvd player is going to be my only option.

You go to the website of the mftr. (Trendnet here) and download the drivers. It's the only place wherever you get them unless you have recorded the CD originally supplied with the unit. Usually, you can reinstall the drivers, but if there is an entry in Add/Remove programs and uninstall the device first.

Thank you for taking your time looking in my question.

My Machine: Macbook Pro retina no Mid 2012

What I wanted: install win 8.1 pro 64 bit on a second SSD completely (without Partition) / replace the optical drive

My problem: everything works fine, but no sound. Drivers seem to be the cause:

    How I installed windows:

    1. I put the own ssd in the main Bay + optical drive with disk 8.1 win

    2. Windows disk initialized and installed windows 8.1 64-bit without errors

3 install the drivers for bootcamp support

4 returned the Mac ssd go back to the main Bay and put the ssd of windows in the caddy and then in the optical Bay

    5. starting is by holding alt and choosing between mac os, recovery and boot efi (which contains windows)

What I tried (all of the following are ineffective):

1 reinstall/repair drivers bootcamp support from different sources (of the download on the website of apple and the bootcamp assistant application)

    2 reinstall the realtek drivers

    3. how to install intel drivers graphics hd 4000 (found a source who said it would do the trick, there is no)

7 troubleshooting sound (a 99% sure that this would not work)

8 throw up my hands in despair and uncontrollable crying afterwards (was probably the most effective on 8)

    That I need clarification on:

I found found some sources say that installing windows via EFI mode causes no sound, but I'm not sure if the way I installed it is considered to be the efi mode as I have never had an option for efi mode. However when I start upward and hold option the name of the windows disk named ' BOOT EFI. Efi mode is how I installed windows?

    What I need instructions on:

Some sources claim that I need to install windows in hybrid MBR mode however I do not know how I would install windows any differently than the way I did above. How can I go about installing, not in start efi mode, if I want to spend the whole ssd for windows / that I would do anything differently than the steps I listed up there?

Thanks a lot again for your time and help!

Windows must be in the main Bay and must stay in the main Bay after installation. You can either use the wizard of BC and create a USB installer which will also create a legacy BIOS/MBR W8.1 (default value for your specific model) or if you choose to do it manually, make sure that the icon of Windows from the installation media, not EFI Boot.

If you start from the DVD W8.1, the default value is Boot EFI. BC Assistant did a bit of work for you, in order to avoid the is not a good idea.

  • Windows 10 Sound does not work.

I was finally able to successfully install Windows 10 on my end 2011 iMac 21.5 inches. Everything works fine, the keyboard and everything, BUT there is NO SOUND, Yes, I installed the latest drivers from Boot Camp to my USB and repaired/installed several times, YES, I have the latest OSX now, what can I do else, it's very frustrating everytime I press the volume buttons they give me circle with a line through it symbol and I can't do anything Please help, I'll give you all the necessary information.

You 2011 Mac do not officially support Windows 10. However, you can proceed to W7/W8.1 to W10. It keeps installing BIOS/MBR, which is necessary for its work.

  • Oddity of the Bootcamp Partition

    Hi all

Recently, I created a Boot Camp partition on my drive of Fusion that I then had to remove the Windows could not be installed (different question).  Then, I see that my drive looks like which is very good:

But curiously, the player is actually two partitions:

And when the partition Boot Camp put it in the middle of my drive of Fusion.  Logically, I guess this is not matter as long as the operating system knows that OSX partition 1 and partition OSX 3 are a logical drive of fusion (with WIN 2 Boot Camp partition) but it does seem weird. Why it would be doing Boot Camp instead of put the score at the end?

For clarity, the Fusion drive was wiped clean and so it was not because of the fragmentation of the files.

    Thank you.

This is normal and expected behavior. On a Mac, when a hybrid MBR is used to support the old BIOS/MBR facilities, it has two limitations.

    1. it supports only four 4 entries.

    2. it supports only 32-bit integers. This limits the size of addressable blocks 2 TB and 2 to the MBR.

BCA wizard locates the Windows partition in the middle of the LVG CS and then spans the two pieces into one. Use Time Machine to blend in the contiguous physical disks.

This limitation does not exist on Mac GPT/EFI (the latest models 2013 and following). W7 has many problems with GPT/EFI and is not used on the Mac, but can be installed using GPT/EFI on PC.

  • New Installation of Windows 10 using Memory Stick

Installed Windows 10 of a download of Microsoft with the iso installed on a memory stick with training camp. After you have created a Bootcamp partition I couldn't install Windows on Bootcamp partition due to an error message 'GPT Partition Style'. Reformatting of the Windows installation screen did not help. The solution came as a surprise. I was start from the windows 'disc' when I should have used the IEF 'drive '. After starting the EFI, reformatting of the Bootcamp partition disk worked and the installation went well, with the exception of the Setup screen was too small to read easily. Fortunately, I was familiar with the installation of the failure of the previous installation screens.

Windows 10 works fine now. The link below is what led me to a solution.

    http://code-zest.blogspot.com/2015/02/Windows-8-install-GPT-partition-style.html

Your MAC supports two installation methods, inherited from the BIOS/MBR (used for XP, Vista, W7) and EFI/GPT (W8 +, W10). The first method requires a hybrid MBR to 'map' the GPT to a MBR-look-alike. EFI/GPT boots are 'native' and faster than the legacy method.
