  I can't select a virtual machine, and then do file - & gt; The Virtual Appliance - & gt; Export and generate a much smaller shareable all files, the file contains only a vmdk format ovf file, so I can't really use it in VMware Fusion or VMware Player, making it useless for me.  How to use my ESXi infrastructure to generate these shareable VMs that can be used with VMplayer or VMfusion?

  Assuming that Windows virtual machines using VMWare Converter to copy the virtual machine to a compatible format.  Converter 3 and 4 converter (in beta) have limited support for Linux virtual machines.

  I would like to request a feature to be able to export 'Virtual Network Settings' from my computer.

  Whenever I have install or re-install VMWare Workstation on a computer, I have to reconfigure my virtual network settings manually to match the configuration of static IP address I set up on my guest VMs.

  However, if I was able to just export the virtual network settings (and then import these settings into a new installation), I would be able to save time of configuration on each of my computers/workstations and thus avoid manual effort either myself or to inform my colleagues on how to configure their virtual network settings to take in charge the VMS the comments.

  Run the command with cmd - a started with "run as Administrator"?
  Did you change directory in the installation directory WS first?
  The command runs without any messages.
  The output should be a 8 k file - just tested again on Win7 - 64 running WS 10.0.2

  It looks like an ISO image is configured for the virtual CD drive of the virtual machine. I suggest that you set the CD for 'Client' and check that 'Connected' is NOT checked.

  Now, I was able to get all the information I want vcenter but I have problems with two of the scripts I wrote.  It is with regard to obtaining information on the virtual disks associated with all virtual machines in the environment.

  I was able to export the data, but I get a line by VM that does not work for the way in which we want to use the data.

  What I am looking for is a csv export with one line per virtual machine that looks like:

  VM number 1, hard disk number 1 name number 1 datastore, path of vmdk number 1 hd, hd number 1 capactity, number 1 hd, hard drive controller number 2 name,... up to 7

  A slightly different approach, we use the group object to create an object for each virtual computer with the highest CPU usage.

  Of those that we have, then take the 10 with the highest value.

  If I create a virtual appliance using the .ova format, all hypervisors support it?  Are there other formats which are in competition with .ovf / .ova on Xen, KVM, Hyper-V, I need to consider?

  The ovf / ova standard was proposed by VMware as an open format for use by all suppliers. Since this is a published and well understood format, there are tools, other than VMware, which can convert to different destination formats.

• Cannot configure the virtual appliance.

  Hey guys this is my current setup.  We bought a Dell R510 to host virtual machines and we bought vmware vshpere essentials.  The R510 has nothing about this except the hypervisor (which is installed on a USB key and it's a free dell configure esxi iso I downloaded from the vmware site).  VSphere is installed on another computer (comp1).  I gave the R510 a static IP (192.168.1.22).  ordi1 uses 192.168.1.4.  The two compositions are on the same subnet and switch; and use the same dns, gateway, etc..  I added the R510 host installation of vsphere comp2 and sucessfully VM Windows Web Server 2008 R2.

  So, I heard about an app of vmware, Netdisco, so I wanted to try to see what he says on my network.  I used the Vclient (installed on my desktop computer) to connect to my computer vpshere (comp1).  I see my host and I selected "New TIME", after naming it (netdiscoVM) and the allocation of resources, it seems to be done.  I right click on the netdiscoVm named VAPP I just did, and I don't see anywhere to load/point vmdk file or anything telling me remote how do I get the app downloaded there.

  Another thing that I saw some people mentioned was using the client to connect directly to the ESxi (r510) and download your files.  I was able to do this.  I saw folders with the name of the virtual machine, that I had done, but none with the NetdiscoVM.  I have advanced and downloaded the file with the netdisco app.  I look around and I see no option to start the thing.  Another thing for me to try?  Am I missing something?

  I just download it. The download is designed for VMware player. Extract the downloaded files and VMware converter allows to convert the virtual machine to a virtual machine on your ESXi host.

  The same should apply to the device when you use an external database. But with several guests it would be wise to take the same settings with the Windows version of vCenter, which means increase the memory of tomcat and adding vCPUs additional and resources of the virtual machine RAM.

• Problem with the virtual copy exports - JPEG vs DNG

  Hi all - just a quick question - I have a set of photos developed in LIghtroom that include several virtual copies of which I now want to export to in the form of final versions on my hard drive. All virtual copies are B & w versions of the masters (post-processing work also differs slightly on the top of the b & w preset).

  I need a patch of JPEG and DNG files.
  Export to JPEG files seems to work without a hitch and all the pictures come out like in Lightroom.
  Exporting DNG however come with a question - all virtual copies come out as images themselves IE. not virtual copies, but they are more b & w as they are supposed to be, but go out like color.

  Color version masters come out well. Exports of virtual copy have different look (as expected) and the file size slightly different (also planned?) suggesting this only thing missing for me is the parameter b & w.

  I have tried everything to fix this problem with no use - export the virtual copies separately etc. As already said - JPEG works, but DNG does not...

  Someone at - he experienced this and if so any suggestions on how to fix...?

  DNG files are 'RAW' files - they cannot be changed.

  You can export only B & W versions as (pixel database files) as JPG or TIFF

  You can export copies of a DNG, but they are still RAW.

  You can embed data in a DNG file (containing similar to XML with the NAVE sidecar files and raw CR2 files), but editing will be visible in software that can interpret the raw data (like Lightroom or ACR)

• Activation of Windows still necessary even if the virtual server on the same hardware to restore

  Our virtual machine running vmware server ESX 3i 3.5.0 has 2 hard drives, datastore1 and datastore2.   All of our virtual servers are stored in datastore2.   Our hard disk with the datastore2 crashed and he had to be replaced.    We have backups of our virtual servers in datastore2 virtual appliance.

  To solve the problem, we replaced the hard drive crashed and then restored by using the virtual appliance backups, once restored, we noticed that the Windows 2008 requires that the activation of the licenses.

  My question is why does windows need activation when we restored the virtual server for the same hardware? The only thing that has changed is the hard drive.

  Export/import unfortunately OVFs does not have an option (at least I'm not aware) to maintain these settings. What you can do - when exporting the virtual machine as an OVF - also download the machine virtual . VMX and .vmxf files. After re - import the OVF, remove it the ESXi host inventory, download the two * .vmx files and add the virtual machine to inventory. -Once asked if you copied or moved the VM on the first power-select "I moved it.

• Upgrade VMware Tools on Linux based virtual appliances

  I just updated a cluster of 5.1 to 5.5, some of the VMS are virtual appliances based on Linux (most of them on CentOS) which are fairly locked down (no easy access console) critical how's this for upgrade these types of virtual machines to the latest version of VMware Tools? I'm a little OCD and it bothers me that some of the VMS are VMware Tools reports that are "Stale" :-)

  I know what you mean about the annoying notification bit... However, most of the providers WILL group and test vmtools as well as the Virtual Appliance that they release.

  The answer isn't vmtools upgrade, it has upgraded the Virtual Appliances.
