configuration constantly updated

Almost every time I shut down or restart my new laptop (Sony VGN-P21Z with Vista Home Premium SP2) I get a message: "Configuring updates - do not stop your computer." Even when I start or restart. Check with the installed updates, according to me, that no new updates have been installed. The computer seems to be perfectly up-to-date - and stiil going in configuration - and it takes time! I tried a restore, I even did a format and a complete system restore, but nothing helped.

Hi Geoffrey K.

Sorry to be back - my problem appeared again. Only now, the "Configuring updates" screen, I get to stop and start stays on for just a few seconds (before it was 5-10 minutes). I'm willing to put up with it as long as it gets no worse...

What were the results of the test of the hard drive?

It seems that things go too far and you need to perform a factory restore and reinstall the files on your system.

Repeatedly press the F11 key at startup to enter the Recovery Manager, and then follow the instructions.  I hope that the recovery partition is not damaged.

My update agent has the latest version 7.6.7600.256. The necessary dll files have been re-recorded with an appropriate script. Removal of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download etc did not help.

How to get out of the trap?

    Finally I did the job.

1 free up memory extra RAM by temporarily closing Sophos SAVservice

2 stop wuauserv every time before you begin the next msu file

    3. install manually:

  • Constantly update screen

I have a game that I'm writing and I want to make the screen constantly updated. I tried to use a while loop and call invalidate on the screen, but it does not draw anything. I can do if I call the invalidate to a key event to draw. I use the Simulator IDE and storm 4.7. Any help is appreciated.

@RexDoug - probably applicable in this case, but can clarify you your message please.

In the first paragraph, you say that the invalidate() is called with the event Thread because it is part of a key event, but on the second, you say that it should be queued to get in an event Thread process?

Also, I don't think invalidate() has the thread of events - I think I have the code that invokes it directly (for a form) to a background Thread.  In my view, there is no treatment, it initiates just repainted at a later stage.  But that's just my experience and I could be wrong.
