connect the m6220 switches stacked to existing Lan infrastructure

I need to connect two powerconnect M6220 to LAN infrastructure existing.

The switch of two are configured in the stack.

Which is the best way to uplink the new switch to the other two powerconnect 5548.

The old switch are not stacked and bound together by two 10GB Ethernet cable (one of the links is disabled).

I need to implement the network tolerant to failures, maybe I need to configure the tree covering weight on the two links of 10 GB.

I use Spanning tree to configure the uplink between the old and the new, too?

Is there a better alternative? There is another way to prevent the loop network?

Thanks, Francesco

You have a few options.

1. you can simply connect the cables between the M6220 switch stack and the 5548.  Set up a trunk connection which allows for VLAN needed overall.  Tree covering weight until it is enabled on the switch and not off on specific ports connecting the default switches prevent loops and allow the most profitable link to be active, leaving the second connection as an alternative link in a blocking state.

2. you can configure LAG (aggregation of links).  This is where you configure the individual physical ports in a virtual port channel.  This indicates a covering tree to treat multiple physical ports as a single link aggregated to the other switch.  You will need to have the port at each end of the connection channel mapping. (On each switch).  This allows the same speed but more flow.  To move traffic more.

This kind of configuration can operate with switches that offer spanning tree or MLAG. But the 27xx series switches do not offer these features. With this type of installation, there is a loop that will cause a continual broadcast storm that will wreak havoc on the network. Your best form of redundancy will link redundancy switch, but you will not be able to get the redundancy of switch with 27xx switches.

  • The M6220 switch battery problem

    Hi all

I have a stack of 4 switches M6220, I just updated the firmware to 5.1 that all is well in outside pass 1 member switch.  I have download the image the game disappears the switch to 2 that the reload fails and the image, now the auto update keeps cycling and switch 1 has been shaded in all settings.  He continues to say the update in the GUI.

Can any ideas how I can force the update on who finally pass, it's very frustrating and time - anyone help?

    Thank you

    Eric

After attempts to upgrade the firmware, is there something in the newspapers? # See logging. This could be a hardware problem with the switch. One last thing, I would try to apply the firmware through the XMODEM method. In the firmware download, there is a update guide. Page 19 of the updated guide details the steps of starting in the Advanced menu and applying the firmware through XMODEM. It will take some time to make it end.

  • How to connect two network switches Force10 S4810P

    Hello world

We just bought two S4810P Force10 network switches and we want to install on two adjacent brackets. They will be used to interconnect computing and NAS storage, installed in two baskets serving mainly local connections.

We intend to use ports QSFP + to connect the two switches, and I have two questions.

    1. hardware configuration: what are the best transceivers and cables to use in this case?

    2. configuration of the software: should we use stacking or virtual link trunking? the information I've read so far does not give me a definitive answer.

Thank you very much in advance for your help!

The server room is already has some inside wiring? If so it be a transceiver that will percolate pre-existing cables. There are also some direct attach cables ranging from 0.5 m to 50 m. Here is an example of a cable direct attach: http://dell.to/23huDl7

the best course of action would be to contact your sales representative and let them know what your needs are. They can get you city for right connection hardware.

the VLT and stack the two have the same goal of redundancy, but go about it in different methods with different warnings warning for both. In both scenarios, the redundancy is dependent on each device connection linking the two switches. If you do not do this, then it may be better to let the independent switches. Here is a good blog that compares the VLT and stacking.

    I hope this helps.

  • Using offsets to connect 4 2848 switches

I have four switches 2848 PC I want to connect to the best way to deliver the good flow and link redundancy. There is no VLAN involved.

I was not able to find a good setup for this example. From what I've seen, I think I want to use the offsets of 2 ports to connect the 4 switches thus:

    SW1-SW2 >

    SW2-SW3 >

    SW3-> SW4

    SW4-> SW1

I saw that it would be preferable to set the cost of path higher for the SW4-> LAG SW1 ports to avoid a loop.

But beyond that, I have no idea how set up correctly with regard to the settings in the user interface. Does anyone have an experience with which could provide me with some guidance on how to configure the GAL on each switch?

Thank you very much in advance!

    -Max

Your plan sounds great. It's a logical layout of the ports.

  • LAN N450 connection through a switch problem

I replaced my router from Time Warner Ubee with a Netgear N450. I have 2 desktop computers and TV and PS3 in my basement that is connected to a Netgear GS108 switch 8 gigabit ports. Everything worked fine until I swapped the router. All my wireless devices work and the office in our head office that is connected directly to the N450 work. A desktop running Win XP Pro, the other works under Win 7. I don't get "LAN was not a valid IP configuration errors. I rebooted everything, turn off DHCP and tried to manually enter the IP information, power off the pc from the wall outlet, etc. and spent several hours on researching this issue. Any ideas would be useful.

Problem solved. I brought the Win 7 PC upstairs and connected directly to the router. The PC immediately recognised and connected to my home network. Then, in order to eliminate potential problems with the switch itself or wiring, I brought the upstairs switch and connected between the router and the PC Win 7. Same results as above - connected to the network home and Internet. Took everything back down and voila - both PC is now successfully connected to the host and the internet using DHCP network automatically. Not sure why it worked. I went through this simple process to diagnose potential hardware issues.

  • How is the best way to connect the configuration of my router and switch?

I have a cable modem. connect to a switch, I have 2 computers connected to the switch. I also just connected my router wireless switch. That's the best configuration or I lose my firewall of the router in passing is not by ports directly above?

Most of the cable modems will give an IP address, so connect a switch to the modem and then connection of two computers and a router to the switch will usually result in one of these three devices, get an IP address (and internet connection), while the other two will not be.  (Notice that I guess a true "Modem" and not a "Modem/Router" device).  The correct configuration would be to connect your router to the modem (router gets the unique IP address).  The router can then process from the addresses IP what either side LAN of the router, then plug the devices you need (including switch) to the router's LAN ports.  This also ensures that all devices will be on the same subnet that your connection scheme to separate devices on the router wireless from the other two devices on the switch (here, assuming that you have a router/Modem device).

  • Deliver the addition of new set of switches stacked as an extension to the network in another data center building

    Hello

I was wondering if someone can help me, I am a humble sysadmin with no real network admin training.

I have the following Setup to work in a rack in our data center.

    2 x Dell Sonicwall NSA2400
    2 x stacked switches Dell Powerconnect N5524

A Sonicwall is connected to each switch (active-passive)

Every Dell server has 2 x nics in servile failover mode, one of each network card connected to each switch

This is done to allow a full redundancy for network, cable, switches and Firewall interface cards. It works well.

The above mentioned rack is now full and we ordered a new rack that is in a different datacenter of construction on the same site. We decided to buy another set of stacked switches and _extend_ (no battery) these via optical SPF on the rack on the other.

The idea is that we still have the switch fault tolerance but link to two grids through 10 GB. The new switches are 2 x Dell Powerconnect N2048 and have been implemented stacked with any connected devices.

I have implemented SPF ports on both switches to be a junction ports and connected the two sets of switches, unfortunately our site went offline, our alert went ballistic and no servers could not talk to each other!

Quickly, I unplugged the new switches and after a worrisome 10 alerts deleted seconds and the site is back online.

I don't know why this has happened and reflected on the STP parameters that my googleing seem well. I don't know I'm missing something basic.

    I'll post a framework and a diagram in a follow-up post

Which is no doubt tree covering the shot weight. It is a good idea to assign lower priority to the main switch. Generally, your root switch will be the one that plugs into the firewall. Definition of priority on the main switch to 4096, it will make the root switch. So as you work your way through different layers of the network, increase the priority. Access layer switches can be left by default.

I would also check the physical connections for loops. In situations where you have multiple connections switch, make sure that these ports are configured in a SHIFT.

    Keep us informed.

  • Cannot connect the switch Cisco Cisco SG300 - 28 p spend and traffic through VLANS

Try to connect the Cisco SG300 - 28 p switch to another switch and proceed 2 VLANS between them.  Not doing any circuit.  If I connect a computer to the port on the SG300 - 28 p I can access the VLAN 2 and take a DHCP address. However, when I connect to another switch on the port and connect it to a port on another switch secondary I am unable to access VLAN 2 and pull an IP address.  I checked that the works of secondary switch (WS-C3560G-48PS-S) connected to the other 3500 s, but not this latest SG300 - 28 p.  Here's the configuration for both, I'm leaving areas that shouldn't matter and add if necessary.  Try to connect the SG300 - 28 p Port 26-WS-C3560 Port 1 port.  Once again, if I connect a computer to port 26 on the SG300 - 28 p I access the VLAN 2 as expected, but not when I connect to channel 2 on the secondary switch.

    Hello

Yes, STP is the problem here. As you can see on your release of the Cisco 3500 switch, port Gi0/1 is BKN (The FEW is a shortened form of "Broken").

This is caused by an incompatibility of versions PLEASE used between the two switches. Small businesses (including series SG300) switches are use legacy STP or Rapid STP (your case), but uses templates to business (such as catalyst 3500) PVST + (each VLAN spanning tree version of STP).

Two versions between group of switches are compatible only under certain conditions. Important condition is that the two switchports needs to use a VLAN 1, vlan access/native and not any other number VLAN.

It is to make your communication work, you must:

    • disable the STP at least 3500 Cisco switch:

      • on overall global (Switch (config) # no vlan spanning tree 2)
      • or by the base interface (switch(config-if) # no vlan spanning tree 2)
    • change the configuration of your connection between two switches by following the path:
      • change the switchport trunk (trunk switchport mode) mode
      • do 1 VLAN as native vlan (vlan switchport trunk native 1)
      • Towing VLAN 2 as vlan tagged on that Stump (switchport trunk allow vlan add 2)
  • Connect two switch stacks without stack...

OK, so we have a stack SG500 and another pile of SG500XG, we would like to connect the two piles together using a Direct attach cable (which we also used to create batteries).

It is possible to attach the two piles together in this way without the two piles becomes a battery? (we have reasons that we do not want a big stack)

I hope this makes sense?  Any ideas appreciated.

Unfortunately no, if you use stacking cables and connect them to the switch equipment automatically reads the cable and start the process without any input from the end user.

The only other option can think off is to create an etherchannel between the batteries have 1 battery as L2 L3 Garland battery like that

  • Cannot connect wireless or even turn on the wireless "switch" on my computer

I recently installed a copy of Windows 7 Professional, yet the installation, I couldn't have the wireless network to connect to what either.  The first thing I noticed was that my wireless button (which is a touchscreen as a device on the top of my keyboard) was not on, can I turn it on, or do I not have the fn + f2 option.

My computer is a HP Elitebook 8440p and regardless of what precedes, I proceeded to install drivers wireless on HP support site, they had to choose some and I ended up trying 3 which did not work.  I found a page of networking which showed these drivers wireless with a connection of sorts but closer examination revealed that the problem lied with simply turn on my wireless switch.

LAN works fine (I'm here now) and the wireless switch control active if I turn on my any and hit him (orane to blue towers), but otherwise, I am astonished.  I don't think that the router is the problem, but it is a 'Fast' model... that's all I know at this point, although I'll try to find the type of exact model if its important.

I think it's information pertienent, thank you for any help you can provide!

My computer shows management I installed the drivers...

In fact, I found the answer (I hope help you someone else with your post if the time is not lost)

My wireless is fine, it turns off when I plug my ethernet cable.

    Appreciate the answer however.

MacBook Air, OS X El Capitan

First of all, make sure that you don't have two accounts with the same address. What happens if one of them is an iCloud account.

From the Mail menu bar, you select

    ▹ Connection Doctor window

In the window that opens, look for an SMTP (outgoing mail) account with a name that corresponds to the account that you are trying to add. Double-click it. Another window opens, displaying the list of all outgoing mail accounts. Click the sign button less to remove the corresponding one, and then click OK.

Try to add the email account again. If you still can not, log off or restart the computer, and then open the preferences window accounts Internet and check if the account is displayed.
