CPU i7-6700

I just bought a Dell XPS 8900 with a processor i7-6700 to Cosco. Is later, 6th generation of processor Intel, or would it be a model last year? The WiFi support is only N, while a more expensive version of the XPS 8900 is AC. I make the assumption that the Wifi chipset is integrated with the motherboard and the 8900 would use a motherboard compatible with different items added on. That could be a wrong assumption but I wonder on the processor. Have I not later Intel?

Yes, it the i76700 is a sixth generation processor. the 8700 s had core i7 4770 and 4790 s which are the fourth generation.

The completely different motherboard for the sixth gen compared to the 4th gen.

I have the X 51 R3 with a CPU i7-6700, but not water cooled version.

After loading in the bios, I don't see any option to overclock the CPU in the OC section or any other menus besides.

Is this possible with the systems cooled by water not? If so, how can I do this?

Hello!  Unless your CPU is a variant of K, you cannot overclock because it is locked by Intel.

  • Strange question on CC apps on Windows 10

    Hi people,

I tried to search to find an answer to this, but no luck so far.   Hoping that someone can help because it drives me crazy!

I've recently upgraded to creative cloud and have this installed on two systems (as permitted!)   I have it on my work system which is a Mac - here, it works great! - and also on my PC at home.

My PC actually wasn't last week, but I have exactly the same symptoms on the new PC.   Here's roughly what is happening:

    • Apps to load correctly without a problem.
    • On opening a file (any file, I tried many), things start to go wrong
    • I'm unable to use keyboard shortcuts - as now the space key to activate the tool «hand».
    • I'm unable to move the panels (for example, the Panel layers) around the screen - they seem "frozen" if I can use them to change the settings, but not reposition.
    • I don't click and drag "handles" to resize the documents / elements in documents. It is the main killer, I can live with other bugs.   For example, to change an element placed in InDesign, I need to use the tools on the top bar, rather that click and drag to resize.

This happens as well with existing documents and new files too.   It seems to affect Illustrator, Photoshop and Indesign - I don't really use any other applications other than Premiere Pro and Media Encoder, which work fine.

As mentioned above, this caused a problem on my old PC and my new system too!   So, obviously, there is an underlying problem of compatibility somewhere.   Here is some info on my new PC:

    • Windows Pro 10
    • CPU i7-6700, 16 GB RAM, GeForce GTX 950 graphics (configuration dual monitor)
    • It's a whole new system, there is no shared component (other than the external hard drive that stores my work)

I tried to disable the GPU acceleration in applications, but it makes no difference.   Given that I have encountered these problems on two separate systems, I'm guessing that there must be a software that can be the cause?   No idea where to start on this diagnosis?   I wonder if there is a problem with the NVIDIA GeForce software (that has been installed on the PC last too).   I don't want to start randomly software uninstall but if she will not solve the problem.

Thanks for reading, I hope someone can help.

    See you soon,.

    Andy

OK - the problem has been located. The fault doesn't lie with Nvidia (Nvidia sorry!) The problem actually came from synergy - it's software to share the mouse/keyboard to a computer between multiple computers. Interestingly, however, it does appear that a problem with the dedicated Nvidia graphics cards (in other words, it does not cause a problem on the Intel integrated chipsets, or on the Mobile of Nvidia chips no more!)

Problems were reported at the synergy.

  • Optimal catalog size / Performance issues

    Hello

I was wondering, is what size a good catalog - if inverse geo-location and facial recognition is enabled.

Problem: So far, I've had a single catalog for about 30,000 photos. I recently reinstalled my PC and thought, that it would be beneficial (after various OS upgrades and Versions of Lightroom) to make all things new. However, despite the powerful Hardware, it seems that Lightroom is facing serious problems with the number of photos in this catalogue and says little. Now, I wonder if break the number of photos in smaller catalogues would help.

    Hardware specifications:

    CPU: I7 - 6700 k

    RAM: 64 GB

    GPU: GTX 1080, 8 GB

Lightroom is installed on a SAMSUNG SSD Pro 850 / 1 TB

The pictures are on an other Samsung SSD, EVO 850 / 1 TB

    Software:

    Windows Pro 10

    6.6 Lightroom

Do you have any advice? Or can Lightroom generally manage the number of photos easily and more exist somewhere a mistake?

    Thanks to advandce

    Michael

    @trashner @dj_paige: thank you both.

6.6 Lightroom formed - what I would call 'the perfect storm '. 6.5.1 also first, problems of performance handling of faces in the largest catalogues (I'll explain later). With 6.6 and known issues of performance and memory, by head screeen personas to a wiered Lightroom application behavior difficult to answer and sometimes. Why not everyone knows this? I suppose that, because most of the users to install LIghtroom 6.6 as an update to an already existing and fully indexed catalog.

Then, my experiences with 6.5.1 were as follows: generally more rapid then 6.6. But, when I went to the screen personas, the application started late, but, fortunately, to a degree where it was still a little sensitive. So while 60% of the faces (30,000 pictures, which took more then 15 hours) have been recognized for the complete catalog, I had the opportunity to 'play' nearby. And I discovered a few interesting things: once again, the application when booting with the root directory of the catalog is still slow and accept suggestions of name is not funny at all. But I have the files/catalaog organized in folders and subfolders (year and month can, for the most part) and began to experiment with subfolders as starting point. And all the sudden Lightroom has started to become much more quickly in many ways. Face recognition from one subfolder to another (on avareage 300 Photos) began to speed up a lot and also work with name suggestions, etc. became easy. When I went a hierachy upward (meaning a year), with sometimes 6,000 or as little a few hundred speed, was a kind of uproportional goes downwards or upwards depending on the number of photos in this directory. While the indexing/recognition was still not fully filled 6000 pictures mean, hard to work with it and 500 is very easy.

Then, I started to activate up to 1000 subfolders and waiting always face rocognition was completed. That took a few minutes. I repeaded that for each subdirectory and been fact within 2 hours for the remaining 40%. In this way the recognition of work face 3-4 times faster, then having lightroom do the recognition for the entire catalog at a time.

Then I started to work on the suggestions of name etc. also based on subdirectory to subdirectory, which was still much faster, and then the applicaton behaved when the entire catalog has been selected.

    Conclusio

-With the help of 6.5.1 instead of 6.6, was an important stepp.

-However, the answer to the question of the optimum size of catalog would be:

    (a) catalog can be very very large

    (b) but to speed up the recognition of faces and to work with her, breaking the process into pieces of 500 photos.

  • Slow with many layers of Photoshop

    Hello!

I do experience notable in Photoshop slowdowns when working with large files (more than 4000 x 4000 pixels) with many layers.
I tried different things, like tinkering with performance options in Photoshop, brush settings and global PC settings.
    Nothing seems to help.

When you start with a new file (say 4000 x 4000 pixels), everything seems fine. As I work, I create layers more. When the number of layer approaches 80 ~ 100 I start noticing significant slowdowns. The Brush tool becomes lag (delay adds boring), zooming and paning is smoother and everything becomes overall slower.

When checking in the Manager of tasks, either the graphics card or RAM or processor is fully utilized. Total CPU usage is usually only 20 ~ 25%, 50% of RAM but Photoshop is lagging as hell.

I think I have a quite decent PC. (at least for this type of workload..)
    My PC current specifications are:

    CPU: i7 6700 k @ 4, 0GHz
    RAM: DDR4, 16GB, 3000 Mhz
    GPU: GTX 980 Ti
2xSSD RAID-0 for the main system partition (Photoshop "scratch disks" can also be programmed to do this).
    Windows 10

So, what could be the problem? Any ideas I could try?
Or should I rethink my working habits of several layers?

    Update!
After more inexperienced, seems to have finally found the culprit that is causing slowdowns.
Layer blending Options. Especially those that generate their own semi-transparent area.

I can reproduce this in the layer file 10:
    (1) create a new file with the dimensions of the 6000 x 6000 pixels (or something bigger) with no background
    (2) draw something
    (3) add option 'outer glow' merger with significant RADIUS
    (4) add a few more layers, repeat steps 2 and 3
    (5) create new layer below all other layers and try to get something in the area where overlap the effects of "outer glow".

    So the main takeaway:
Be careful adding mixture of options to layers and rasterization them where possible.

I did not have a Council Skylake so can not say what will happen a Member here who bought a non - K with basic fan-sink was able to install a chiller in simply bolting it on without messing around with the rear backplate; you would 1 attempt on the bolt, & if it's a no-go, Council to remove / install new back plate / reinstall pension + new cooler and then see what happens when psu caddy closes. Hi guys,.

I'm new to the forum and I hope to find and answer quickly.

I bought a X 51 R3 i6700 CPU 4.0 GHz with system about two months of the Turbo Boost technology. The invoice indicates i6700 CPU 4.0 GHz with Turbo Boost technology. The information system indicates 3.4 GHz, no mention of the Turbo Boost technology. The BIOS also indicates 3.4 GHz and no mention of the Turbo Boost technology.

I've scoured the internet for where this Turbo Boost technology can be reported in the system but found nothing. Anyone with a X 51 R3 system knows where this Turbo Boost technology can be declared the system?

I read that some people want to turn off. Crikey! How am I guess even turn on or off when I don't even know if I have it.

Thanks to all those who are trying to help me. A screenshot would also be nice.

    MrOtto

Turbo Boost 2.0 technology is integrated into all processors of Intel i7-6700.

In the first link, there are many listed and incorporated technology this processor. Just because they are not mentioned in the BIOS, this does not mean they do not exist or are not active.
