Create a desktop shortcut to a drive

I have a floppy that connects to the PC by USB, with a shortcut on the desktop that gave me a quick access to the contents of the disc. A few days when it is started, the icon disappeared, I have no idea why, but I thought I had a way to get it back. I went to "Devices and printers" in the Control Panel, click right on the image of the disk and choose "create shortcut in the drop-down menu that is displayed. The icon appeared and I put it in the space formerly occupied by the missing icon. But when I clicked on the icon, it shows the 'Properties' window and not the files on the floppy drive. I also discovered, when I got to the top of the Windows Explorer, right click on the player 'A' did NOT offer me a way to create the icon I used. Review of 'properties' to the floppy disk icon display, I found that the target of the icon is the display of "Devices and Printers" Control Panel.

Two questions:

(1) what does the diskette icon disappear first place?

(2) how can I get the icon that shows the files on the diskette when I click it?

Thanks for the replies. I have fund the response to the creation of icons for readers with old friend GOOGLE.

It turns out that all I have to do is click on the drive letter in Windows Explorer, look at the little icon in the bar of address and then drag it to the office.

I want to make a shortcut on the desktop to open the subway (Start Menu). I know there are ways to make desktop for metro applications shortcuts, but I wan to make a shortcut that I can put on my desk that actually opens the metro as if I had moved the mouse to the lower left corner of the screen and opened it from there? There must be a way?

1 create a text file and name it start.vbs
    2. edit the file and paste the following code
    Set objShell = CreateObject ("WScript.Shell")
    objShell.SendKeys ' ^ {ESC}.

    3. save the file on your C drive and create a shortcut and put the shortcut on your desktop.
    4. right click on the shortcut and change the icon to something you want, or you can create a custom icon, I did it by finding a windows logo on the web 8 and taking a snip of it.

    5. put newly create a shortcut on the lower left corner of your screen and now you have an icon to get to the start screen, bypassing the hover bottom left corner.

    Hi Yoliray,

    • Since when are you facing this problem?
    • You did changes to the computer before this problem started?

However, you can start the computer in safe mode and check if you can create a shortcut on the desktop in safe mode and after return the result. To boot to the desktop in safe mode keep tapping key F8 during restart. Once you see the option to start in safe mode select and press to enter.

If you can not create a shortcut in your user account, you can start again in safe mode and try to access the built in Administrator account and try to create a shortcut in the administrator account and check if it creates and post back the result.

You can also try to re - register the i the shell32.dll file and check if it helps to create the shortcut. To re-record the file, follow the steps below:

    a. Click Start and click Run.
    b. in the run box, type the command regsvr32 /i shell32.dll and click Ok.

Restart the computer and check if that helps.

I hope this helps. Let us know the result.

    Thank you and best regards,

I go to it and I right click to pin to one of the two places the task bar or the menu 'Start' which I do not know if this is more, but that is besides the point. For other things I can create a shortcut, and I'm sure I used to have one before I had to re install the computer. When I right click on it nothing appears at all.

    Do this way:

1 - Press Windows + X to display the context menu

2 - go to control panel

3 - go to the system section

4 click-and - drag the Windows Update icon out on your desk and it lay

    Hi Mona,.

    1. have you made changes on the computer before this problem?

    2. you receive an error message or error code?

This problem may occur due to virus corruption of system files or system.

  • How can I add missing icon to the desktop shortcuts

Question too much techno for me... I have several desktop shortcut icons... For most of those who appear as the Mozilla Fox, which is fine, but unfortunately, there are too many icons in Firefox, and I wanted to change some REAL WEB SITE icon, or the favicon. How will I know how to do this? Thank you!

It is not a matter of Firefox making it simple - the Windows operating system controls the desktop icons, so with 3rd party Windows applications automatically use the application for the shortcut icon, but it is possible to change the image of what you want.

If you want the image of the Web site that the site to use for the URL bar as a shortcut on the desktop icon to a Web site:

    1. Define the shortcut on the desktop.
    2. Find and save the image you want to use for this shortcut.
    3. Then right click on that shortcut, then open properties > shortcut on the shortcut menu for the shortcut on the desktop, then use "change icon...". " and "Browse... ". " your hard drive for the image you want to use for the shortcut on the desktop.

Insofar as find and save the Favicon of the site, see the screenshot below.

    1. Locate the icon on the Info Page > media tab and click on it once so it is highlighted, then view this picture in the preview window of media down and also check the Dimensions 32 x 32, if the image is not a picture of Type X-ICON.
    2. Then use the button Save under to save this image - name which has saved something unique, as (for example this forum) mozilla - favicon.ico image then you can tell him apart from any other favicon.ico image you may have saved or save.

If you want to use your own choice of an image, you can convert the image into an image to favicon.ico here.

    http://Tools.dynamicdrive.com/favicon/

When you create a favicon.ico for use as a desktop image, make sure that you select the option merge with a 32 x 32 desktop icon on this page.

  • can I safely delete "unused desktop shortcuts" from my office?

my computer is slow, and I'm trying to remove as much junk I can of my C drive, as it got very crowded.  something appeared on my desktop-"unused desktop shortcuts" and it has more than 1,900 items.  can I safely remove this?  I have windows XP home - I'm not very techno

The folder with unused desktop shortcuts is generally created and filled during the execution of the Integrated Desktop Cleanup Wizard. 1900 shortcuts does not seem to be a bit excessive, but if you had the time close to machine, and the cleanup utility was run regularly so I guess it's possible to have accumulated that much over time.

You must be sure to remove the folder, although it won't make a difference to the functioning of your PC. Reasons for a slow running machine are usuallyeither that there is too much background running processes, or you have been infected by some kind of Malware.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cannot delete the desktop shortcuts

I recently added Dell Dock. Shortcuts added were on the quay and on the desktop. When I tried to delete the desktop shortcuts, I received the following message:

    "Cannot find this article.
It is no longer in the Office of C:\Users\Public\Public. Check the location of the item and try again. »

I then deleted Dell Dock and now am stuck with 5 shortcuts on my desktop that are not going anywhere, not open to anything, and I can't remove.

    Someone please help!

    Hi StarsSkyClouds,

Thanks for the response on the Microsoft answers Community Forums.

Try to remove these in safe mode shortcut icons. Follow the steps on how to start in safe mode.

    Advanced startup options

    http://windowshelp.Microsoft.com/Windows/en-us/help/f9c50a72-04EC-4088-9fd4-a4f979eef5a71033.mspx

Note: Try to remove the icons from your account in case of connection failure to the account administrator in safe mode go the c:\users\username\desktop location and try to remove it from there.

Another step you can try is to create a new user account in Control Panel > user accounts. Open a session in the new account go to c:\users\username\desktop location and try to delete from there.

If this fails, you can try to remove these icons in the windows recovery environment starting from the DVD. Follow the steps below for the link below to start the recovery environment.

After you boot from the DVD

Step 1: Start in the screen Options of system recovery.

Step 2: Click on the command line option.

Step 3: Type notepad and press ENTER to open a Notepad. Press Ctrl + S, and it will open a save dialog box.

Step 4: Click on computer, and it will open all your drives.

Step 5: Go to the c:\users\username\desktop site and remove icons.

  • Desktop shortcuts are losing their targets

I have SBS 2011 and it synchronizes the content of my local profile, including the desktop shortcuts.  Sometimes, however, desktop shortcuts will lose their targets and I have to remove the 'old' and create new ones.  Is it possible to remember shortcuts?

Why you use a server to a workstation?  Or are you?

I'm guessing you have the SBS and other workstations and a roaming profile and log off when you connect in the SBS, return and then log in to a workstation that has made requests to your shortcuts are - you find them broken?

If the answer is "Yes" - connect to a computer first to get your profile.  Then log in to the SBS and make sure the latest system, you log on that is the workstation - this way your shortcuts should remain intact.
