Defender stops.

When I update and scan Defender, all right. If I turn off my computer and then back the Defender later turned it self is disabled. It used to work fine. I run AVG free and Super Antispyware and always have.

Help, please.

If you have upgraded to AVG 9.0, disabling the Defender is normal and how AVG works now (it didn't in previous versions).  The concept is essentially that AVG does just about what Defender (but with a few exceptions not related to anti-spyware, but the blocking program) and there is a risk that run both at the same time may cause conflicts, freezes and other problems.  I suggest that you do not run both at the same time.  Since the Defender offers no protection, anti-virus, anti-malware, if you decide to keep the Defender you will need another anti-malware/Antivirus program.  I recommend Microsoft Security Essentials (which is what I use), but it also disables Defender.  If you do this just because of the Defender blocking feature, there are other means in Vista to block programs - you would need to clear all the blocks of the Defender (if you had control by other means) and use the other methods instead.  If that's the only question you want to keep the Defender, after return and I'll show you other ways to achieve the same goal.  I'm not sure that aboutAvast to the: http://www.avast.com/index.in terms of replacement, but you can check it out (and it's also good and free).

Here's a forum dedicated to AVG I looked during the discussions on the issues with the Defender (but can not save the search page, so go to the search box and type defender of research and you will see many threads about explaining the situation):http://forums.avg.com/us-en/avg-free-forum.

I hope this helps or at least explains the situation.

Good luck!

  • Windows Defender stop working after the malicious software removal tool

I ran windows software and after this removal tool, my windows Defender stopped working says its turned off, but when I try to turn it on nothing happens

This problem can occur because another security application is used or the Windows Defender service has stopped, or components of Windows Defender are corrupt.

You install any new programs recently? Windows Defender is not designed to protect against the extent of malware. If programs like Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender both run, your system may experience degradation in performance and other problems caused by the conflict of two services providing real-time protection at the same time. I recommend that you keep the Defender off if another application of security protection is running.

If no similar security application is installed, I suggest that we have follow these steps to resolve the problem:

Step 1: Check the Windows Defender service
    =================================
    1. click on start, in the search box, type: "services.msc" (without the quotes) and press ENTER. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    2. double-click on the service "Windows Defender".
    3. click on the 'general' tab. Make sure the "Startup Type" is "automatic". Then please click on "Start" under "Status of Service" to start the service.

If the problem is not resolved, please refer to step 2:

Step 2: Save the associated DLL files
    ========================
    1. click on start, type "cmd" (without the quotes) in the box start the search. Right click on CMD listed above and click 'run as administrator '.

    2. in the command prompt, type the following and press ENTER to each order:

    regsvr32 atl.dll

    regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\wuapi.dll
    regsvr32 softpub.dll
    regsvr32 mssip32.dll

    3. close the command prompt, and then run Windows Defender.

If the problem persists, please after return.

  • Windows Defender does not start automatically now.

Since last week, Windows Defender will automatically start.  He has always done in the past.  It shows to the extent permitted in the list in the Windows Explorer startup programs and also listed as automatic in the section of the computer management services.  I opened a few days ago to check the updates, and I got a little window that says "Windows Defender is disabled" and it had a link to activate it, I clicked, and it did turn on.  Because of this, whenever I turn on my laptop, I check Windows Defender and of course, she is still not and I have to turn it on manually.  I also have McAfee Security Suite, Spybot Search & Destroy and Microsoft Security Essentials, Ad Aware, Malware Bytes.  More McAfee is the only one that I pay.  But I had all these programs installed to the Windows Defender stopped automatically starting.  I don't have the error messages and have never know on this subject if I did not check for updates once.  I am running Vista Home Basic 32-bit with SP2.

Defender is not an Anti Virus program, it's an Anti Spyware/Maleware program. Yes, you need an Anti Virus program to use along side of it. To answer why it turns off you must provide the details.

    Three points:

2, in my opinion (and that of many others of us here), McAfee is one of the poorest possible choices. I strongly recommend against it.

    3. for an anti-virus program, I recommend eSet NOD32, if you are willing to pay for it. If you want a free anti-virus, I recommend one (do not run more than one) of the following three:

    Avira AntiVir
    Avast
    Microsoft Security Essentials

You also need anti-spyware software (even if you run a program like Microsoft Security Essentials, with anti-spyware feature integrated into it). I recommend that you download and install MalwareBytes AntiMalware (freeware)

  • Install Wizard fails in WIN7 - file missing error?

I had printing problems recently with my C6180 all-in-one printer.  For some reason, the print jobs have been suspended in the spooler or somewhere in the network (not sure yet but because of this new problem).  I've decided I want to uninstall then reinstall the printer drivers in the hope that the driver has been corrupted.  Uninstall seemed to go ok.  When I tried to reinstall, the wizard fails every time just after the screen where you can select which components to install and you must accept the EULA.  I get an error popup that says: "the system cannot find the file specified."  He didn't tell me which file it needs, and ends the installation at this point.

I've tried everything I can think of doing work - cutting the antivirus (AVG & Windows Defender), stop out-no Microsoft, installation services in safemode, I went into my system and removed all the HP files I can find and identify, and I followed several different patches, I found here and online.  All fail at the same point.  HP does not have a newer version of the software (AIO_CDA_FSW_Full_Win_WW_130_140.exe), but I downloaded it again just to be sure.

I think it's probably a Windows file that it is absent, but I really have no way of knowing for sure.  You would think that with a 300 MB installation file, they understand all the * beep * the files needed to install in itself!

My system is running Windows 7, 64-bit with all latest updates.

I'm at my wits end now and all ideas!  Can someone help me please?  Thank you!

    Finally figured it out!

I uninstalled HP Solution Center again completely and reinstalled once more.  This time he actually found my printer, although he posted only the wireless configuration.  I thought it was weird, because I had the ethernet cable is connected and the wireless off.  I tried several times in different ways so that it can establish a connection, but whenever he failed and told me to turn off my firewall, etc..  I tried with and without the firewall.  Nothing did not work.  I therefore decided to return to my router settings and check again for any problem here.

The control panel of my router is very basic and almost no parameters to be set.  I reinstalled the software of the router and now, I had total control of all the options I want.  One thing jumped out of me almost immediately - my C6180 and my Chromecast both share the same IP address!  Go figure!  I'm gone in my printer, changed the IP, rebooted the router and re-directed the installation of device HP program.  It went pretty well, except for hanging them on one of the screens.  I force closed, and Installer picked up right where it hung and continued the installation successfully.  Printing and scanning now work correctly.

Thank you very much for your help!

    3. What is the full error you get, when you try to activate windows Defender?
    4. what anti-virus is installed on the computer?

Method 1: Check if the Windows Defender service is enabled.
a: Type Services.msc in the start search box and click on enter.
b : now, look for a service called Windows Defender, double-click to open it.
c: Now Start the service and make sure that it is set to automatic.

Method 2: Temporarily disable the antivirus and check if the problem occurs.
