Departure from virtual IPs on the private interface?

In the book, Oracle Database 11g
High availability of version 2
http://www.Amazon.com/Oracle-database-release-high-availability/DP/0071752080/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8 & qid = 1369406044 & SR = 8-1

It is said:
"Virtual IPs starts on private interfaces so that they can be moved to other interfaces on failure."

A reason why they are started on the private interfaces and not to the public? Also, after their startup continues to receive their traffic through the private interface? Or are they moved to the public interface just after their start?

I can't find much information on this claim of anywhere outside this book.

Thank you
Mike

Do not have the book, so will take your Word for it that's what the book says.

Most likely a typing mistake. The VIP is configured on the public address.

The VIP is never set on private and then moved to the public sector... They are configured on the public and started on the public interface.

  • Public and private IPs on the same Interface by using NAT Exemption/policy NAT

I'm looking for some feedback on whether my thoughts on the installation program will run.

    Equipment: PIX 515E 6.2 (2)

    Scenario:

The inside interface of the PIX will host 3 blocks of addresses IP - 24 public 2 blocks and 1 private/16 block. (All IP addresses have been replaced by dummy blocks.)

    Blocks of audiences:

    * 192.168.10.0/24

    * 192.168.20.0/24

    Block of private:

    * 10.50.0.0/16

Traffic from the public 2/24 blocks should go through the firewall without address translation.

The two blocs of the public will be able to receive connections initiated from the Internet.

Public blocks will need to be able to send and receive traffic on a static VPN tunnel to our headquarters without subject to address translation

Traffic leaving the sector private/16 block should be subjected to PAT before passing through the firewall.

Private/block 16 will not receive incoming traffic from the Internet (other than responses to outbound connections initiated from within the private block).

However, the private block will also have to be able to send and receive traffic on a static VPN tunnel to our headquarters * without * subject to address translation (i.e. hosts on our corporate network must be able to initiate connections to the private block and vice versa).

The inside interface of the PIX will be connected to a Catalyst 3xxx series layer 3 switch, which will be responsible for routing all internal (so the PIX will never be routing of traffic on the interface, it was received).

My ideas on how to implement are:

    * Use the exemption of NAT to exempt public address translation blocks. This will allow incoming and outgoing connections through the firewall.

    * Use the exemption of NAT to exempt the block private NAT when connecting to our head office on the VPN tunnel.

    * Use policy NAT w / PAT to translate the block private connecting to all other hosts.

I have translated these thoughts in the following configuration snippet.

Because the NAT exemption is processed before policy NAT in the evaluation of the NAT rules, I believe that this should allow the public IP blocks treat incoming/outgoing traffic without translation, while submitting the private translation block (except during handling of incoming/outgoing connections to our network of corporate office).

Can someone confirm my assumptions about this?

    # ----------------------------------------------------------------------

traffic of # which should be exempted from translation

permit ip 192.168.10.0 access list nat_exempt 255.255.255.0 any

nat_exempt 192.168.20.0 ip access list allow 255.255.255.0 any

    nat_exempt ip 10.50.0.0 access list allow 255.255.0.0 10.100.0.0/16

traffic of # which should be the subject of translation

policy_nat ip 10.50.0.0 access list allow 255.255.0.0 any

    # Suppose 192.168.5.1 is the address to use for PAT

    Global (outside) 1 192.168.5.1

NAT (inside) 0-list of access nat_exempt

    NAT (inside) 1 access-list policy_nat

    # assumes that 192.168.10.7 is the IP address of the inside layer 3 switch

    Route inside 192.168.10.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.7 1

    Route inside 192.168.20.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.10.7 1

    Route inside 10.50.0.0 255.255.0.0 192.168.10.7 1

#assume the following configuration sections appear elsewhere: static tunnel VPN, ACL, ifconfig, etc..

    # ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, this will work, even if you don't need political NAT for the 10.50.0.0 network. For PAT the 10.50.0.0 network when to anywhere (except via VPN) just do:

    Global 1 192.168.15.1 (outside)

    NAT (inside) 1 10.50.0.0 255.255.0.0

As I said, you have works perfectly, the above is just an easier way to do it.

  • Configure the Infiniband interface on virtual machine

    Hi all

I installed the driver Mellanox Infiniband on ESXi 4.0 U1.

Now, I want to create a virtual machine using the Infiniband interface.

I added the networking hardware (VM IB Network) in configuration-> hardware-> networking.

I then added new VM IB network on a virtual machine network adapter. Should what type of adapter I use in this case? VMXNET 2 (improved) or VMXNET 3

    This procedure is correct?

    Kind regards

You host does not support the pass through.

This is unrelated to Mellanox drivers.

  • RV180 DHCP IPv4 client to work on the WAN interface?

    Hello

Is it the customer Cisco RV180 router/firewall support DHCP on WAN interface? What is specifically mentioned on the DHCPv6 client, however, it is not mentioned for the client to IPv4. I want to set up with my cable modem in Bridge mode accessing the WAN on the RV180 interface? So I would get the IP address of my ISP.

    Thank you

    Niels

Sent by Cisco Support technique iPad App

    Hello Niels,

The RV180W can certainly pick up a DHCP address from your ISP to the WAN interface, via a bridged modem. In fact, it is the default configuration. Of course, you can also change your type of connection to a static IP or PPPoE (DSL) connection profile.

All our small business routers are certainly capable of this confiugartion. Personally, I currently use a RV180W with a cable connection. Public IP from my ISP very well address the picked up RV180W.

switch and FW can ping each other without problem

FW can't ping, still gets the DHCP scope.

    Thank you

    Hello

    How did you setup?

The laptop is connected to a port of the 3750 (VLAN 52).

The connection between the 3750 and the SAA is a chest or a link L3?

If the 3750 has a SVI belonging to VLAN52, you can ping from the correct PC? As well as the ASA?

  • VPN SSL from the inside on the external interface

    Hi all

First of all I know that I can activate the SSL interface inside, but that's not what I need or want.

    Scenario:

Several interfaces and VLAN on the SAA (running 8.0.5).

SSL VPN configured and enabled on the external interface.

Need to know if it is possible to access the SSL VPN from other interfaces directly to the IP address external interface, something like her hairpin.

Possible a solution (if it exists) with or without NAT (I have public IPs on some interfaces).

This will be useful for users who can connect any interface (inside, outside, or other) and with only a DNS record, I'll be able to manage everything.

    Concerning

PS: Is DNS doctoring an option? The tests that I have done this does not work.

    Hello

Unfortunately, it is not possible. You cannot communicate with an ASA interface which is not directly connected through the firewall.

  • Disable the network interface on a virtual machine

    Hello all-

Is there a way to disable the network interface on the network adapter in the virtual machine?  We have a group of applications who want to simulate a network in collaboration with MSCS failure - I don't necessarily agree with the fact that this type of test, but try to determine if this is possible from the functional point of view.

Our ESX host have networks of virtual machine set up off the coast of 4 port nic mezzanine card, and I don't want to touch the VM network vswitch as any part of this test.

Thanks for any help you can provide-

Is there a way to disable the network interface on the network adapter in the virtual machine?

Yes, in the virtual machine settings, for each NIC assigned to the virtual machine you will find a checkbox 'connected '. Unchecking it's like pulling the network cable.

  • How to configure the private network interface between two VMS os invited using red hat linux

    Hello:

I'm trying to set up a Real Application Cluster on my home office so that I can install Oracle 11 g RAC which is a facility where you have two servers accessing the same shared of storage (chipboard).

In addition they will have a network interface private and a public network interface, so it will be for public interface eth0 and eth1 for interconnection of private networks.

I read that I can set up using VMWare server, create Virtual Machines and install the operating system invited to them.

I intend to install Red Hat Linux guest OS.

My question is basically, how can I do for the establishment of the private network eth1, will be the guest OS to automatically install the sense (do I need to have 2 NIC cards for this), or where and how can this be configured?

Also, how these two speeches of Virtual Machines to another on the private interconnect?

And is it possible to use DHCP or do I need to add the IP addresses manually?

Very grateful for your contribution to this topic, thank you.

    Kind regards

You can have network private without assigning a NIC cards (adapt).

    Hope this helps

Company has 5 static public IP addresses. One is used by SBS, another for the public wireless network. I would use a third party to be able to access the ESX and perform remote management.

I am able to use SBS Remote Workplace hop on the server or any computer of client desktop and can run VI Client from there, but prefer to do it from my computer so I don't attach resources to the office. two vSwitches - vSwitch0 is the 'network' and vSwitch1 is the "Public network". I configured a VMkernel Port on vSwitch1 like the default (vSwitch0) "network management". vSwitch1 takes the address of the gateway on the private network and when I change it to the ISP on vSwitch1, it also changes on vSwitch0.

    Is this possible?

Welcome to the VMware community forums.  The VMkernel can have as a gateway, so that's why on vSwitch0 changes when you change vSwitch1.   Technically, there is nothing to stop you adding another on vSwitch1 and vmkernel port giving a public IP address (which you can then connect to the VI client).   That said, it's not recommended to to do.  The management for ESXi port is best left on a private network and possibly protected by a firewall.   Put the vmkernel Internet port would be like putting IP to an IP SAN management or the management of a switch on the Internet.  Yes you can do it, but this isn't a good idea.  Instead, you might consider putting in a simple VPN server and then connect to ESXi through that.

  • WIN8 registers touch but no reaction from the user interface?

Anyone having problems with Win8 button when your fingers are clearly registered (Windows gives this feedback from the spherical ripple effect) but the user interface under your finger does nothing? No not the button and so on.

I live it with some Chrome for example, with the small button tab when it is near the top edge of the screen.

If I drag the window to the center of the screen, I have no problem with getting keys recorded. Hit the button new little tab gives no trouble.

When user interface elements are close to the edge, no reaction, even if the wave indicator appears.

Cannot know if it is a driver or a HW problem. I use X220T.

May be a problem with Chrome, in fact. Tried with Firefox and the new tab button is a lot easier to hit. ---> will give Chrome devs a hint

  • Flatten to a string to send arbitrary objects by messages from the user interface?

    Hi people,

I am trying to send arbitrary data by messages from the user interface defined by the user to my labview interface. Something funny happens then: if I send the data through the message of ui, it seems I have something strange. There is only one character or nothing in the message of the user interface that reached my reminder.

It seems that flatten channel also creates control characters that are interpreted by NI TestStand and Labview not as members of the chain, and for this reason I only get incomplete data. within the action of testand, which creates the flattened data, I put a dialog box to display the string data, and it seems that at least up to 255 (ascii) characters are used.

Is there something like uuencode/uudecode to avoid this problem?

    Thanks in advance

    Okidoki, found.

His «binary"produced by «Flatten the string» string Apparently I thought, the LabVIEW data type is incompatible with the API of TestStand from LabVIEW. In conclusion I would classify this as a bug (sorry people, at least there should be documentation) API for LabVIEW TestStand 2014.

As a solution, I use flatten it in XML, which is a printable and human readable 'normal' string.

It was trial and error, and I'm not enjoying this.

  • Slow response from the user interface with acquisition of data of type long time

    Hi all

I have a question to ask more out of curiosity than necessity right now. I've built a program that acquires data from the accelerometer and the Treaty in a number of ways: filtering, FFT, FRFS, things like that, but the answer of the UI is still slow, because I need a resolution of frequency of 0.2 Hz for my data domain, which means that the sample acquisition time is 5s and all this awaits before execution.

My question is this: is there a way to completely isolate the user interface of data acquisition so that it responds immediately?

I tried a design model of producer consumer with queues, but found everything to be always waiting for samples to be taken. Maybe it was exactly as I did.

    Thank you

    Phil

If you need to sample for 5 seconds in order to have enough data to analyze, so unless you can "predict the future" and "knowing" the five seconds of data, simply wait for the data that arrives.  Using parallel loops of producer-consumer will allow data acquisition to proceed (for the next 5 seconds of data) while you do the analysis, but you still have to wait for the data to be analyzed.

Note that the previous paragraph assumes you are collecting data in 5 seconds 'chunks' and analyze each "chunk" (independent) on arrival.  You could also do something like having a "second 5 sliding window" which moves, say, a second at a time, giving your FFT a finer resolution of 'time' (at the expense of their independence).  This would be a (slight) change in your loop of producer (you want to taste in 1 second pieces, accumulate 5 these pieces) and the consumption loop (start analyzing, spewing a FFT every second, while replacing the older "chunk" with the most recent - a queue with loss can do for you).
