DeskJet 6988 and Qwest Actiontec PK5000

Somebody has experience of print setting wireless with the above combination?

I tried to install the printer several times using the supplied software.

I followed all the instructions of the special instruction provided by HP to http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01812372sheet.

Each time, Setup has found the printer, he correctly identifies, moves a window saying she's trying to set up the printer for wireless communication, and then a box saying "Cannot finish installation".

What should I do to make this work?

We will install the printer manually.  Using a LAN cable, temporarily connect your Deskjet 6988 to your wireless router.  Print the network configuration page (press the checkmark on the front of the printer) and note the IP address assigned to your printer.

Open web page internal printer by accessing its IP address.  Select the network tab, and then select Wireless (802.11).  Now press start the wizard to launch the wireless configuration wizard.

After that the printer is connected to the wireless network, unplug the LAN cable, print the network configuration page and verify that you can access the wireless printer's internal web page.

Now we will install the printer driver manually.  Here are the instructions for installation for Vista:

1. make sure the printer is on and connected to your network. Verify that you can access the printer's internal web page by accessing its IP address before continuing.

2. click on > start > Control Panel > printers.
3. click on add a printer
4. Select local printer
5. Select create a new port and select Standard TCP/IP Port, and click Next.
6. under device type, select TCP/IP Device. Under the name of host or IP address, enter the host name of the printer (found on the network printer configuration report the generated above). Click Next.

If you get a message about required additional Port information, then the printer is not found using the host name. You can go back and start over or using the IP address of the printer instead of the host name.

7. Select Hewlett-Packard in the list of manufacturers and select and select your printer model. Click Next.

If your printer model is not in the list, then select disk provided, browse the CD that came with your HP printer and select the first file begins with hp and ending with INF. click Open, then OK. Select your printer model. Click Next.

8. If prompted, use the driver that is currently installed.
9. He will ask the name of the printer - enter a new name or use the one existing. This will be the name of the printer that you select from other applications.
10. we may ask you to share the printer. Make a choice and click Next.
11. the printing area of Test Page is displayed. Go ahead and print it out.
12. click on finish.

This should be it.

  • Problem printing Deskjet 6988 and Windows 8.1

I have problems printing multiple copies on my 6988 Deskjet Windows 8.1. I tried to print several copies of a PDF document as well as an Excel spreadsheet, but all I get is a copy. It seems that I must go to the printer properties and set the number of copies here.

Is this a known problem with Windows 8.1 for this printer driver?

    Hi Stephen0118,

I understand that you have a Deskjet 6988 which is not allowing you to print multiple copies, unless you go to the properties of the printer. I will definitely do my best to help you with this.

Because the driver you are using is an OS driver, which means it is integrated into the operating system, it will be less characteristic than a full pilot of features. I will suggest that you run your Windows updates to make sure that everything is up to date, but others, while it looks like everything works as it should.

Hope this helps, have a nice day!

  • DeskJet 6988 and driver Windows 7 (64-bit) and double-sided printing

This configuration allows only manual duplex printing.  How can I change the printer duplex?

This functionality worked correctly with Windows XP.

Unity double-sided default 'not installed', you must specify the duplexer is installed as described in the Windows Vista/Windows 7 Duplex Printing Troubleshooting Guide.

  • Printer stopped working after I removed a paper jam - Deskjet 6988

I removed a paper jam today, according to the instructions. But since I did it, it will not be printed. The power light is, as if it's OK, but he absolutely refuses to print.

My printer is a HP Deskjet 6988 and I am on Windows 7, 64 bit.

Whenever I try to print, the print queue displays the print job for about a second, then he faints. I try to print again, it disappears. Then, if I do it a third time, it appears in the list and stays there, but the printer does nothing.

After two minutes the queue no longer mentions it as the "impression". Instead, it says, "error printing". I try to delete the print job, but it just sits there, saying "error printing". It will not erase. The only way to remove it is by the printer stop or restart the computer.

If I try to print after that stuff all over again.

I tried closing the printer and reboot, restart the computer, power cycling (stopping the printer, unplug the cables, waiting..., plug again and restart).  I ran the Diagnostic Utility and it tells me that it works very well - well, very good for a very large paperweight.  I used troubleshooting via the Control Panel, and he said: "a print job in the print queue prevents other printing of print." But as I have already said, delete the print job does not solve the problem.  I am stuck in a loop of the removal of print jobs and nothing works.

    Help, please!

    Hey Tigger,

It may have been stuck in the diagnostic mode - not able to move forward or backward for a time very long.

Next time, if this never happens again, you can try a Reset of the printer:

Here are two types of reset the base printer:

    (1) if there is a keyboard, turn it off, then on and press on # and 6 (press and hold while turning on the printer).

    (2) without a keyboard?  So unplug that LEAVE unplugged for 30 seconds to a minute.  Reconnect it.  (Be careful with this one - will not shock).

It can become a little more complicated than that, but a basic reset sometimes "will have the printer attention" if it's just "spinning" and nothing else will not physically.

    I'm glad it works again.

Maybe printers receive loners.   The smile.

  • Test page for the wireless ad-hoc print only Deskjet 6988

We have 3 os x 10.5.6 cell phones and a computer running windows XP. I got an ad-hoc wireless network set up with a Deskjet 6988 and a router from Dell. I was starting to have problems with the router, so I bought an AirPort Express. After you configure the AirPort Express, everything was fine except that I couldn't print. After a lot of efforts, including the setting of each computer to the printer cable ethernet and update the software and try something different by connecting a USB cable from the printer to the airport. When this does not work, I went back to an ad hoc network. I eventually so I can print wireless from a test page, but that's all. For everything else... emails, word documents, etc., I get an error message. The message flashes too fast so I can't read it. Any thoughts?

    Bruce,

You should be able to add the printer without having to reinstall the SW.

Try to remove the 6988 since the printing section printer and faxes in the folder System Preferences, then add new.  If you have recently updated your Mac SW, 6988 driver should be part of Mac OS and in this case, the printer driver is automatically installed.

  • Win 7 and DeskJet 6988

I have two printers DeskJet 6988, one a 6988dt with double-sided printing option.  According to the hp support

A full set of features of software and the driver for Windows 7 is not available for your product

but a basic driver is built into Windows 7.  The directions in the link above say connect the printer with a USB cable and Windows 7 will find and install the driver "Basic." The reason why I bought these printers was because of their wifi function. So... printers work through only if connected via USB or wireless on Win 7?

  • Problems with AirPort Extreme and Qwest Modem/Router.

I have a Qwest ActionTec 1000 DSL VDSL2 gateway and want to disable the functions of router wireless and those through direct AirPort Extreme. I know that in the Modem I have to disable the functions of addressing and turn them in the AirPort Extreme to avoid address conflicts, but what are the settings I need to change in both devices? And what is "A Transparent bridging" on the side of the modem?

But what are the settings I need to change in both devices?

Sorry, we can't help on the settings for the modem/router, because it would be a question of Qwest as to if this is even possible and if so, if Qwest will support this type of installation. Sometimes the ISP lock modem/router settings, and although it seems as if you can change the basic configuration of the unit, you can really.

Yes, it is possible that another user of Qwest has done with the same modem/router you have and an AirPort Extreme... and may know the answer... but the chances of the person who holds this information also to see this post are slightly above zero. But, I guess it's possible.

If the modem/router can be configured to operate only as a simple modem, then the next step would be to get your Mac connected directly to the modem to test the connection in this way. If Qwest is going to help you, they will do it no doubt with your Mac connected directly to the "modem" as well.

Once you know the exact details of the PPPoE authentication to establish a connection, these parameters can be transferred to the AirPort Extreme and removed from your Mac. To do this, you reset the AirPort Extreme back to default and then put settings in place again. The installer should detect the PPPoE connection and then ask for your login information.  After this, the correct settings apply to AirPort Extreme during the installation.  You can still use the same wireless network name and password you used before if you wish, or set up a new network name and password.

PPPoE on the routers of the airport, at least in my experience, was not a reliable way to connect when I tried this in the past, but you don't really know how well... or even if... it will work until try you it. Unless you really want the airport to distribute IP addresses to devices on your network, things would be a lot more simple if you went ahead and used the modem/router "such what" and then let the airport works in Bridge Mode to transfer information in connection with network devices.

When you have the modem/router converted to act as a simple modem and made a successful connection using your Mac connected directly to the "modem", post back and we can help with the configuration of the AirPort Extreme if you need more advice.

  • HP Deskjet 6988: The problem is how to get to 'double-sided automatically' with 10 WIN my HP Deskjet 6988 printer

My Deskjet 6988 has been printing double-sided automatically (I have the setting of appropriate material) for the last 3 years. However, when I upgraded to Windows 10, who have enough work. No pilot is available online (HP site) and the disc that came with my printer does not work with Windows 10. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? Really, I love my printer and do not think I should buy a new printer for automatic two-sided printing.

On Windows systems, the function "automatic detection" used by some drivers on the install (or update) does not always; make sure the driver knows that a duplex unit is present on the printer (assuming that a single is present):

    • For the instance of the printer in question, bring up the printer properties dialogue.
    • Select the device settings tab.
    • Make sure the duplex unit is set to installed and not installed.

You will probably need to be logged in with administrator credentials in order to change the settings of the device.

If your model does not have a duplex unit equipped (i.e. not one of the models with a suffix "d"), then you can't do automatic duplexing. You can do manual duplex printing (assuming that the printer driver supports this).

  • DeskJet 6988: prints without custom border deskjet 6988

I want to make a card (5 x 7) which means I have to print 10 x 7. I tried to do a custom size by clicking on "without borders"but I still have the white border.» The option without borders works with no custom sizes?

    Hi @mhm45,

Can I have found some information about you on your Deskjet 6988 borderless printing options.

Please NOTE: With all models, print custom page sizes are n ot guaranteed from Windows, it usually ends up being a limitation of the operating system presets. All these settings are error.

I think you're right, it should use an option without border defined by the operating system - but you can review the information provided in the user guide for printing without margins to see if you missed something. PG 59-61.

    This information has been in the User Guide for the Deskjet 6988;

    Print borderless photos

Use printing without margins to print to the edges of some types of paper and printing on a variety of paper-paper photo sizes 3 x 5 inches to a custom photo size 210 x 594 mm (8.5 "x 23.4").

    Guidelines

    ● For high quality results, use a print cartridge photo in combination with the print cartridge three colors.

    ● do not print photos without a border in ink-backup mode. Always have two ink cartridges installed in the printer.

    ● Open the file in a program such as Adobe Photoshop or HP Photosmart software and affect the size of the photo. Make sure that the size matches that of the paper on which you want to print the photo.

    ● If you have installed the HP Photosmart software, you can use it to assemble panoramic digital photos before printing.

    ● For maximum strength, use HP Premium Photo paper.

    ● Check that the photo paper you are using is flat. For more information about the prevention of photo paper to curl, see photo paper storage instructions.

    ● Do not exceed the capacity of the tray in: 25 sheets of photo paper.

    Prepare to print

To print a single small photo, use the photo/envelope feeder.

To print several photos or more, follow these steps:

    1. check that the printer is turned on.

    2. for small photos, remove the output tray. For large photos, lift the sliding top. Remove all paper from the tray in. 3. drag the width of the paper all the way to the left guide and then pull out the paper length guide.

    4. check that the photo paper is flat.

    5. place the photo paper in the tray, with the side to be printed on the bottom. If you use paper photo with a detachable tab, check that the tab is so opposite of the printer.

    6. slide the paper guides against the paper.

Note: Some formats of panoramic paper may extend beyond the edge of the In tray.

    7. for small photos, replace the output tray. For large photos, lower the output tray.

    Print

Note: If the software includes a photo printing feature, follow the instructions that are provided with the software. Otherwise, follow these instructions.

    1. open the photo in an application that allows you to edit, such as the HP Photosmart or Adobe Photoshop software.

    2. open the printer properties dialog box.

    3. click on the shortcuts tab print Chapter 5 60 HP Deskjet 6980 series

    4. in what you want to do? drop-down list, click borderless Photo printing, and then select the following options:-print quality: normal or best. Note for maximum dpi quality, go to the paper/quality tab and then click Maximum dpi in the drop-down list print quality. -Paper Type: A picture appropriate paper type - size of paper: a paper size appropriate photo without margin - Orientation: Portrait or landscape

    5. set the HP Real Life technologies.

    6. click OK to print the photo. If you have printed on paper with a detachable tab, remove the tab to make the document completely without borders.

Please let me know if any of these steps has resolved your problem, or if there is anything else I can do to help.

I look forward to hear from you!

  • Deskjet 6988 printer to wireless network (laptop Envy w / Windows 8.1)

I got my printer HP Deskjet 6988 years and still it was connected to my desktop via a USB 2.0 cable. I bought a laptop HP Envy with Windows 8.1 and want to connect the printer through my servant/Belkin router network, as the USB 2.0 cable provided with the printer does not seem to work in the USB ports of the desire for direct printing. The software disk did not work in the laptop, so I downloaded the software and utility software (printing and scanning) to 8.1 on the HP site.

I ran the download, the installation wizard has started, said "the wizard will connect to the internet and help install the best software available for your printer." I clicked on next, and opens a window "Device discovery" and then an another "recovering the device" then... nothing.  The wizard window closes. My installation manual is useless. It tells me to use the wizard on the software disk that does not work on my laptop (and is obsolete and for the operating system still wrong, because it was for my office, which took place on VIsta.)

I somehow managed to get the printer installed on the laptop - I can see it under the available printers.  And if I have an ethernet cable connected directly from the printer to my router, it will print. But if I unplug the ethernet cable, it will not print. I can't keep the ethernet cable is connected for printing, because the router is in my living room, behind the TV and my office is on the floor. I prefer not to keep my printer on the floor of the living room by our TV, so I really need to work wireless!

My problem is how to make the printer added to my network (Belkin router) servant. The wireless router is all set up and functional - I use actually it from now to access the internet and to post this message.

So, my printer is installed on my laptop. The driver is the most recent, intalled today HP.com and I don't have a software disc to use for a Setup Wizard.

What are the next steps to connect my printer on the network, so I can print wireless? If all goes well, I gave enough information. I have read all sections of the HP.com customer help on service and none of them seem to tell me what to do.

    Thank you!

By a lot of trial and error, I actually thought about it myself. I did a lot of jumping around, so I hope that I can remember what I did:

    (1) install the printer driver using the diskette or download.

    (2) connect the printer to the router by an ethernet cable, which looks like a big phone cord (no need to connect the printer to your laptop).
    3) implement the system of the laptop 'search' on your laptop and in search type "Network" and then click on the 'Network' link to open it.

    (4) you should see the icon for the printer on your computers and other devices already present on the network.

    (5) double click/tap on the icon of the printer and it will open 'web page' the printer in your browser.

    (6) click / tap the 'Network' tab near the top of the scren.

    (7) in the left sidebar, under 'Connections', click 'Wireless' to open it.

    (8) start and use the wizard to enter your router information. (You must specify the printer a different name here, so you can distinguish it from all other printers on your laptop.) For example, I named mine "Deskjet" 6988 Network)

    (9) unplug the power cord of the printer ethernet.

    (10) If your wireless printer does not appear in the list of printers when you go to print something, you'll need to add:

    11) open looking for new portable computer system and type "Devices and printers" and click / tap on the link.

    12) click on the link "Add a printer" upward. The computer will search for printers and the new network printer should appear in the list (hint: he wil have an IP address in the 'Address' column rather than a file.)

    (13) add the network printer and run the test to ensure that it works. Make your default printer and may delete all other 6988 printers listed if you want to.

    (14) you should now see your network printer in the printer list when you go to print something.

I hope this helps someone else someday!

  • DeskJet 6988 lid does not close

I have problems with the lid without closing on my Deskjet 6988.

I just changed the ink cartridges, but the lid won't come down completely - it gets stuck about half an inch short makes it close.  The two ink cartridges are firmly in place with the Snappers bit closed on them, so I know this isn't the problem.  I regularly had this problem before, but this time it seems to be blocked for good.  Sometimes when I close the lid very, very slowly it will go down, but this time it will not.  As far as I know, there is no rhyme or reason why the lid closes without problem a few times, and other times refuse to close.  I even tried to turn off and on, which sometimes works, but once again, nothing seems to fix this time.

Does anyone else have this problem?  Anyone has any ideas on how to fix it?  I have some stuff that really need to print quickly, but in its current state, my printer can be a very large paperweight with flashing lights.

  • How to download "HP solutions Center" Deskjet 6988 8.1 on windows

I have a Deskjet 6988 printer and a Scanjet G3110 on 8.1 Windows and you can get the base drivers to download for them.  I can scan and print, but I want to download HP Solution Center software so I can control the making of copies.  How do I do that?  Thanks for the help!

    Hello

I actually called the Deskjet 6988 only I was confused by the title ;-)

For the Scanjet G3110, you have a complete solution available.

If the scanner is already connected to your computer, make sure to open devices and printers, click with the right button on the Scanjet 3110 and select Remove.

Unplug the USB and install the following software:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=DP-127945-1&cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en&OS=4158&product=3723467&sw_lang=

I'm not surwe if the HP Solution Center will be available as well, or can the software of HP scanning only, however the copy of the front panel button will woirk once the software will be intalled.

    Kind regards

  • HP Deskjet 6988 Admin password will not be reset

I have a deskjet 6988 I want to set up for wireless printing.  I am able to connect to the printer via ethernet and wireless Ad - Hoc and can open the EWS browser.  When I select the network tab, a dialog box opens and asks you a username and password.  I know from the manual of the user name is "Admin", however, I never set up a password and the password is not empty.  (I think I bought a returned unit and another user defined a password)

The problem is that the routine use of the manual password reset - "hold the key to report and press the Cancel button 3 times"-does not reset the password.

Does anyone know another method to clear the password or a backdoor password?

The following is posted in "deskjet 6980 reset password":

    ================================================

Press and hold the POWER button.
Press 'X' (printing to cancel) the number of times specified (1)
Press SUMMARY/FF the number of times specified. (2)
    Output POWER

    ================================================

If you follow that and find the rom dump 0408 on printer deskjet 6988 address, you can see the password and username is just above or nearby.  I don't know if this address would be exactly the same for each dump of rom, but the username and password should be listed in this rom dump.
