Deskjet 960C printer problem

This printer worked perfectly with my Windows 7 system until a few days ago.  Now, it takes about 15 minutes to print a page - even time if black and white or color.  I don't know where to start troubleshooting.  Would it be a of the automatic updates of the system which is at the origin of the printing problem?

Thanks for any help.

Try printing a test page by pressing the button resume 5 seconds. If this page is slow to, it might be a cartridge problem. Get out them of the printer and check the date on the cartridges.

DeskJet 3000 shows OK ink levels. the test print on most lines only 1/2 the height of letters. Printer did not run for about 5 months. ???

The printhead on the cartridge for this model, is about half an inch, so if the white lines repeat every half inch or so indicate, ink do not come out. You may need to run 'clean' print head (or can be called 'clean cartridge'), a few times until all the ink jets are disabled. On some models there is a "Deep cleaning" mode, if requested, try this.

If the problem persists, maybe replace the black ink cartridge.

Do not hesitate to call, even if the printer is out of warranty maybe, cartridges could be as collateral; so, it would probably be a fee for telephone assistance. We will, at our discretion, either replace products under warranty proved to be defective or refund the purchase price.

We could even determine after the troubleshooting that it's a problem with the printer, in which case they may offer you a discount on a newer model.

The number to call is 1-800-474-6836 for the Canada and the United States, or you can Contact HP worldwide.

To find the 'End of warranty' date, look in the following table for the location of the date on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM, where YYYY is the year, MM shows the month and DD specifies the day.

  • Establishment of a used HP Deskjet D1460 printer problems

Downloaded 140 MB of software and drivers for Windows 7, 64 bit, HP.

Software downloaded, installed and run OK but when an attempt is made to print the test page, the printer loaded paper then the printhead moved only once all the minutes and paper moved no further.  When the power supply to the printer has been removed and reconnected, the paper was ejected empty.

Downloaded and run HP printer install wizard for Windows.  It says that the right software and the driver was already installed. When the test page has printed, the printer running at normal speed but only the position line was printed and it had a big drag in the middle where the ink was absent.

Downloaded and run printing HP and doctor Scan. This correctly the printer as '1400 series printer' but the only listed diagnostic test was "Fix scanning problem" (I also have a HP scanner, but it was not connected to the computer).  The next window is a list of links.  By clicking on one of the 3 links regarding a specific product, provided information about the wrong product: envy 20-d090 TouchSmart all-in - one desktop PC.

Run the utility from Windows 'clean ink cartridges.  Cartridges moved at normal speed during the cleaning operation, but when an attempt is made to print the test page, the printer loads the paper then the printhead moved only once all the minutes and paper moved no further.

    What should I try next?

Power off the day the next day and restarted PC, it the next morning. Print a page of a web site map.  The printer worked fine.

  • Deskjet D2680 printing problems

I have a D2680 connected by a USB cable to a laptop Toshiba under Win 7. In devices and printers, the printer is usually listed as offline. By doing a hard reset or by pressing the power button, I can finally get the printer online, but when I send a document to print, nothing happens. If I then press the power button, I get a printer error message. Sometimes when I restart my computer prints a document. I haved used several USB cables, without change. For the black cartridge light is flashing. I tried everything I read HP (cleaqning the contacts of the cartridge, restart the Print Spooler Service), but the printer is not reliable. Sometimes the power button flashes, but nothing prints ever.

Although it seems that you have a few different problems, it looks more like a paper jam or a jam of transport.

    -Flashing lights-

Would you say that the ink is flashing quickly or slowly?  I've seen printers to 'disconnect' due to a blockage of this nature.  You can try to clean the wheels or looking for a small piece of paper stuck in the gears or another inside the printer.

When you get these sets of problems, can hold you down the power button and the Cancel (red X) button and at the same time to get the printer to print a test page?

I understand that it can print when you restart the PC, but what about when you perform a hard reset on the printer (unplug the power cord from the rear while it is in use)?

Answer these questions for me please, and I'll be happy to help you.

My Deskjet 960C died after fifteen years of trouble free service.  I have a Dell computer almost as old that works under Windows Vista. All modern HP ink jet work with this old set upward?  Product descriptions, all seem to be focusing on the use of phones moblie etc.  All I want a good reliable printer to use with my computer, so I am a little confused.

New is not necessarily the same as the good.

Dry the test of the task on the color cartridge.

Take a white paper towel and incorporate a touch about four layers thick.

Take the cartridge color over a sink, shake it go up and down several times we do this over a sink so ink that shakes will get them in the sink and we can rinse it.

Pat dry the nozzles on the paper towel, you should get 3 lines of ink color, if you get only a magenta line, it's a bad cartridge or the muscles are just clogged.

    Help, please.

    Hey @rshri7869.

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!

I understand that you meet your HP Deskjet printing problems in advantage 4510 series e-all-in-one printer to your computer Windows 8.1. You have included a large number of useful information in your post, so thank you. After reviewing the troubleshooting you have already finished, I came to the conclusion that what you feel is a conflict of driver on your computer Windows 8.1. To fix this please follow the steps below.

    How to add another driver:

    1. Open the Start screen (by selecting the windows start button in the lower left corner or by selecting the "Windows" button at the bottom left of your keyboard to the left of the 'Ctrl' key
    2. In the start screen, type "Devices and printers"
    3. If the option devices and printers automatically fills, click settings at the top right and then click on devices and printers.
    4. In the devices and printers folder right click on your series Deskjet 4510 and left click on printer properties
    5. Left click on the Advanced tab
    6. Left-click on new driver
    7. When the new window driver opens just hit 'next' until you see a list of manufacturers on the left and a list of printers on the right.
    8. Select HP as the manufacturer on the left
    9. DeskJet 9800 select the printer on the right. If Deskjet 9800 is only select "Windows Update" at the bottom left and once the update has been completed, you will be able to select Deskjet 9800.
    10. After selecting Deskjet 9800 hit next complete the new driver Wizard
    11. Under the printer properties window, select 'Apply' but do not hit OK
    12. Select the general tab
    13. Rename your printer in HP Deskjet 4510
    14. Click OK
    15. Finally, right-click on your Deskjet 4510 series once more and click on Printing Preferences
    16. Left click on the paper/quality tab
    17. Left click on the dropdown 'Normal' for the print quality down to the right and change its normal fast
    18. Press apply and OK
    19. Try to print!

Please let me know if the steps I have provided to resolve your problem. Good luck!

  • hp deskjet 1000 printer: hp deskjet 1000 problems

hp deskjet 1000 printer is about 5 years old and has been under the back seat of my truck. I printed about 25 pages when it was new and not the have not used since then. out of the printer and now I have a dell inspiron laptop computer m531r. connected the printer hp with a usb cord and downloaded the latest update from hp. When selecting "print test page", the printer works perfectly as if it is printing, but paper comes out of the Virgin. I have cleaned the ink cartridges with paper towels soaked in alcohol, to run each test and head cleanning hp offered on the troubleshooting section. ink level indicators show the ink to about 80% full. and I updated all the parameters. I rebooted the printer and the computer. I checked and any document, when selected for printing, the printer thinks it is printing. He's even going the correct speed with spacing appropriate, etc. just comes out blank. There is nowhere any dried ink on the print cartridge heads they are clean!   the printer receives data and think it's printing. Therefore, the system does not give messages of any problem. I am concidering buying new cartridges of hp61, but it is a risk not knowing not if the problem is in the cartridge.   TS

    @tomcat056,

You are right that there is a risk to replace the ink cartridges. In all likelihood, the cartridges are dried up and the sensor is defective. New cartridges may not solve all your problems of printer. Honestly, printers are not designed to roll the shotgun in your truck. Personally, I would take the money spend you on the new cartridges and buy a new printer.

  • DeskJet 1050 J410: HP Deskjet 1050 J410 intermittent printing problem

My printer has an intermittent problem where when something is being printed, a line will have the empty right in the middle of it (you can see part of the printed information line above and below the Virgin part).   About ninety percent of the lines print correctly.   Even if the cartridge still had ink, I replaced them - this has not fixed the problem, so I thought that the printer was bad.

This is where it gets strange:

Some time ago I bought an another Deskjet 1050 J410 (it was on sale and I wanted a backup).  I replaced the active printer with the new printer, thinking the problem would probably solve themselves.   Guess what?  It does the same thing as the old printer.   It doesn't seem to matter what I print (emails, documents,...).

Thinking that it must be something in the processor (motherboard, printer card?), I turned off the system and left on the printer, then copied a page on the printer as a test.    It is also the same problem.  So now that I'm back to thinking, it is a printer problem.   But how the new printer could have the same problem as the old printer?

Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix it?

I ran the diagnostics HP (HP Print and Scan Doctor) and no problems were found.

I also ran the HP (alignment, cleaning cartridges and printer) Toolbox.

Is there a software that is loaded directly on the printer and could that be the cause of the problem?

P.S. before I met this problem about 1 week ago, I had used the printer for more than 2 years and not had this problem.

Jamieson, of the Forum of Support HP team sent me an email with a link that has several steps to correct the problem, I did.   I am very pleased to report that my problem has been corrected.    Jamieson, Bravo.  You have made my day. Keep up the good work.     I'm curious to know what caused this problem to occur.
