Device Manager list is empty.

Original title: unable to display the Device Manager in windows 7

What can I do for the list in Device Manager? It does not show anything.

Hi Tracy55,

Thanks for posting the request in the Microsoft Community. It seems that the list of Device Manager is empty.

Answering this question that will help us to better help you:

Were there recent changes made on the computer before the show?

This problem occurs if the Plug-and-Play service has been disabled (disabled).

Please follow the steps below and we update with the results.

Method 1: To resolve this problem, set the startup type for Plug-and-Play on automatic. To do this, follow these steps:

a. Click Start and run, type services.msc, and then click OK.

b. double-click Plug-and-Play. If you receive a Configuration Manager message, click OK.

c. in the Startup Type list, click Automatic, and then OK.

d. close Services.

e. restart the computer.

Method 2: The other reason, Device Manager may be empty is because there are some security issues with the registry key.

Important: This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems can occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you proceed with caution. For added protection, back up the registry before you edit it. Then you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up and restore the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

g. Select "everyone" and check "read" ONLY!

h. Select 'SYSTEM' and check the 'total control'.

i. click on the button "Advanced" at the bottom of the window.

j. in the Advanced window, select "Reset permissions on all child objects...". »

k. click 'OK'.

l. in the warning window click "Yes."

Mr. close the registry editor and check with the question.

Let us know if it helps. If you have any questions with Windows do not hesitate to answer and we will be happy to help.

  • my family vista Device Manager premium is empty!

Hi This is my first post on this forum.

Juice IV noticed that my device manager is also empty, its does not do anything, I'm not sure if this has anything to do with a new all in one printer I recently installed, in fact its how I discovered the problem, the scanner driver software refused to install each time I try. also I can't play games when I started with the game in the drive, it says "cannot locate the cd-rom" "Please insert the right CD, select ok and restart the application." This happened for a few weeks now. I googled many fixs to this problem. I also have a lot of programs on my laptop that would be difficult to replace so I want to keep a full reinstall as a last resort.

It's driving me crazy to this stage and id love to get it repaired.

Please can someone help me with this?

    best regards steve

Hi im juice you all informing them that I had to reinstal vista on my laptop unfortunately, a mechanic called registry registry cleaner had caused damage in my registry. I had tried all the points that I have asked or told to do. I have also problems with other programs crashing etc...

Since then reinstall it my computer worked perfectly.

I really didn't want to do a reinstal, but the cause of the damage was too severe.

    regards stephen

  • DVD drive has disappeared from my computer and Device Manager lists

The machine is an Acer laptop with a single disc DVD - RW Win Vista Home Premium 32 running with all the latest updates installed.

I have not installed anything new (software or hardware), I know.

The other day the player just stopped working and is no longer registered to each workstation or in the Device Manager list.

While they inspected the system event logs there is a chain of...

Event 7026 - the next (s) starting or starting system could not load:

    CDROM

    and...

Event 11 atapi - driver detected an error in the controller on \Device\Ide\IdePort2.

Event 9 atapi - the device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not within the time limit.

Event 11 atapi - driver has detected an error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0 controller.

I know that the drive itself works well because when I initially turn on the laptop I can hear the drive spin upward and I'm able to eject the drawer, so there the power etc... but once in Windows the drive does not work or even appear anywhere.

    So far, I have tried.

    1. detection of new hardware in Device Manager

2 - installing all IDE channels and let the system reinstall after re-booting

3 running the Microsoft Fixit tool, it seems to point out that there is a problem and said fixed it, but nothing is actually fixed by that

I noticed a few other posts which look similar to mine, but had trouble understanding if they truly are or not.  So apologies if this is a repeat of something already posted.

OK tried the fixit tool still once, was not aware there were different tools for different issues.  I have the wrong tool launches the first time round.

Anyway, the drive is still on holiday somewhere, fixit tool reports that it may not detect the drive at all, so that seems to indicate that he does not drive connected.

Is it possible that the IDE cable has come off the promenade inside the laptop?  I hope that not because I just spent the last couple of hours trying to figure how to get to where the Player connects, but seems almost impossible... can get to all the rest, keyboard and screen disconnected, RAM, disk HARD etc, but the DVD player, not a hope!

Looks like I'll take it to a service somewhere I guess.

    Hello

Sounds like hardware and you cannot resolve hardware with the software. Check with the system
Manufacturer of support, their books online, the diagnosis and ask in their forums (if
There are). Or check with a real computer store (one who does on its own in-store service
This brand and model of laptop).

  • Number with the Device Manager appears as empty.

We went from XP to Windows 7 forum>

As you may have read in the title, my device manager is empty. Nothing, absolutely nothing is in it.

Lately, my computer shows this message

I said to uninstall my drivers in Device Manager", but I found this to be empty.

    Referring to this thread: http://helpdeskgeek.com/windows-xp-tips/device-manager-empty-or-blank

I followed ALL the steps and the steps are already finished!

Plug-and-Play is already set to automatic,

    all services are enabled,

and "everyone, system and RIGHTS of the OWNER" are already there with verified correct variations.

I have no idea what to do now.

I have dozens of programs purchased on my computer such as Photoshop, Illustrator, FRAPS and a very broad portfolio of my work of graphic design and progress over 2 years.

Running on Windows 7 Home Premium, with an AMD A6 - 3420 M with Radeon (TM) HD Graphics 1.50 GHz APU

I've had this computer for 2 years and it was Symantec's Norton running on it.

I can't really afford to lose all my work and programs, so if anyone can help, it would save my life. Right now I can't provide customers and I am short on time!

    Thank you very much

You may or may not have checked the following (the screenshots you have included does not show one way or the other).

    1. in the Configuration System (msconfig), you should look at the tab "Services", not the "Startup" tab  However, do not have a lot of confidence in the suggestion to "allow all services" and especially not non Microsoft services, for any reason, previously disabled.

    2. for what is permissions for registry Enum key, your screenshot shows only permissions for "Everyone".  Have you also checked the permissions of the 'System' and 'Advanced' for all screen everyone and system?  Did you get any error messages when you tried to change the permissions, such as the following:

What happened to your system recently - power surge/failure, installed new software or updates, used a system tuner or register cleaner, etc.?

It is quite possible that Norton herself - or malware - can be at the origin of this problem.  I suggest to first temporarily disable Norton and then redo the steps of registry key permissions.  You can do it in Mode without fail and go into Services and stop the Norton services that may still be running.

If disable Norton and reset the permissions does not help you, if you did not recently, download, install, update and run these two free programs.

    MalwareBytes AntiMalware

    SUPERAntiSpyware

Use the free version, not the free trials of "pro" versions  Pay attention during installation uncheck any prechecked boxes that would install some additional third-party programs.

Do not run the scans at the same time.  Each scan will take a while.  Start one and go do a non-it chore.  Once the scan is finished, leave the program to deal with anything it finds.

Once done, you can keep or uninstall programs, or both.  If you keep SAS, I suggest to change its default setting does NOT automatically when Windows starts.

    Hello

I studied in the Microsoft Knowledge base, and it seems that this error is displayed because the driver returned error in her routine to the driver entry.
I think that you need to uninstall the driver, and then click find the hardware changes to reinstall or upgrade the driver.

You can do it in Device Manager. Otherwise, you can remove the drive in the Device Manager list and after restart of the new mobile operating system should recognize the drive again.
After this procedure, you should test the device if it will work.
