Did Microsoft install "avast!" during a call to the helpdesk?

Recently saved and many elements of security installed by Microsoft after the near collision.

I wish that they would not all automatically on the desktop. I hate this.

Now I have a "avast!" icon on my desktop. What is it, and where it comes from?

If it'snot of Microsoft, how I can and get rid of I t? I couldn't find it in the programs list.

A Mac can get a virus.  There are too many users stupid that click on stupid things like Windows.  What he does not (but longer) is market share and thus an economic reason to attack him.  But to say that he "' not get virus, sorry, it can and it has too many flaws.  It doesn't just have the ecosystem of the attacks.  If a tree falls in the forest and nobody is there to hear it, it falls really?  If a vulnerability to a Macintosh system don't get coded upward, because there is more targets in the Windows world, this actually means that a Mac can't catch a virus?

Wait until the Mac have economic objectives and equivalent market share so that they are equal and then we'll come back to this thread and make that call.

Do you mean the difference between the Windows and Mac operating systems?  As PC does in fact mean personal PC - and Macintosh based computers are PCs.

The EXACT difference with regard to the operating system is that Mac is based on the core Unix - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Mac_OS_X so that Windows is the C and C++ language based as I understand it.  http://StackOverflow.com/questions/380988/what-programming-language-was-Windows-Vista-programmed-in

That's like asking what EXACTLY the difference between the German and the French language.  They are different orgins, different codes.

The current Mac OS was actually bought by Apple because they need a new OS - purchased from Steve Jobs, who had been expelled from the Apple and then begins.

Both are operating systems that follow the orders given to him by the man, written by humans, who need updates for adding features, and the security fixes for when they are not exactly what they intend to do.

  • Error-50103 during the VI call for the second time

I have a main VI who, after the initial installation, called a VI that reads and writes several times to a data acquisition (USB 6356). This VI subroutine is called several times for each of the stages of the program. On the first pass through, there is no problem. During subsequent calls to the sub VI, however, it throws error-50103. I've identified the task that resolves this error. I made sure to do a self-cleaning on the task, create the task outside of loops and stop and clear the task after all the iterations are performed. To check if it is only the following calls may cause the error, I created a simple VI who just ran the sub VI twice now, and there are no errors.

Any ideas on what is causing my problem or why it does occur during subsequent calls to my VI more complex?

A picture of the frame and the task which gives me the number is attached.

    Thank you!

I finally found the problem, although it was not the task that LabVIEW had identified. The problem task was a separate sub - VI who was called from the main VI and the Subvi that threw the error. I got this task stopped and cleared and it's not like he has over the matter.

    Hey Sheriff,

    -The program-specific question is?

I would suggest trying the following steps and check if it helps.

Method 1: Check if the Windows Installer Service is present and running on your computer.

    a. click Start , click RUN.

    b. in the run line, typeservices.msc and press to enter.

    c. find the Windows Installer Service.

    d. right-click on it and click on Properties.

    e. set Startup type to Automatic , and then Start the service.

Try to install the software once again and check.   If the Windows Service install is not present or it cannot be started, then follow method 2.

Method 2: Follow the steps in the Microsoft Article virtue and check following.

has run msconfig.exe and disabled all the startup process

    Hello Helpmehelpme,

First, I would check since it is professional Vista was that computer on a field of work or it was already on an area of work? There may be group policies that are in place that prevent to run MMC.

When did start to happening? Is there anything new on the system which has been introduced into the environment (software, hardware)?

  • Dual Boot with windows XP Pro with 2 HARD drive, error on secondary windows install: "Windows did not start because of a configuration of the disk of the computer problem. Could not read the selected boot disk. Check boot path and disk hardware... »

Hi, I recently bought a new Hitachi 1 TB internal hard drive. I wanted to do a clean install on the new drive (d), be able to dual boot my computer and leave my old 300 GB disk (C :) as the primary windows installation. After physically installing the new HARD drive, I noticed that "new hardware found" and the the brand name flashed in the bottom right corner. I thought I'd see the new hard drive in my computer, but I did not. I initialized the new HARD drive with the computer management window (right click on my computer - manage) and I also formatted in NTFS (I had to change my printer hard drive letter to assign the new HARD drive with the letter D, but I've made other changes after this step). Now, I could see and use in my main windows on the C: installation. I then installed a windows new copy XP pro with the installation CD I got for my C: but on the D: (Note: I have a Dell computer (and the Dell reinstallation CD) and my current version of windows has SP3 while the installation CD is only SP2) (I also reformatted my HARD drive during the installation of windows to NTFS)

Now when I try to start on installing the new on my D: I get "Windows did not start because of a configuration of the disk of the computer problem. Could not read the selected boot disk. Check startup disk and hardware access path. "and another line saying to refer to manuals HARD drive and windows.

My Boot.ini file at this time was:

    [boot loader]
    Timeout = 5
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect
    "signature (ac516a5c) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional own "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

I looked towards the top of this help page, but for now I'm unlucky:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314477

(The next steps I took by throwing from the Windows CD and go into the repair console)

I tried to use the bootcfg /rebuild but the line to boot.ini for my secondary HARD drive still does not work.

    He gave me something like:

    [boot loader]
    Timeout = 5
    default = multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS
    [operating systems]
    "multi (0) disk (0) rdisk (0) partition (2) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect
    "signature (ac516a5c) disk (0) rdisk (1) partition (1) \WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional own "/ noexecute = optin/fastdetect

I also tried to change the signature() to multi (0), but it did not work. (or try almost all possible permutations of disk() and rdisk() partition() 0 to 2).

I also tried to use expand F(dvd-drive):\i386\ntkrnlmp(I_have_a_duo-core).ex_ D:\windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe and a few other combinations, but I when I login as D:\windows simply, it fails to extend with a message like "could not develop" or C:\windows I get "restricted access".

I have not yet tried CHKDSK/r, but since I did a clean install on a newly formatted drive... I don't think it would work.

I've also marked the partition on the D: as active (in computer management), but it did not help me.

I've done a first installation of windows repair, strangely, I couldn't fix this one... Still does not work...

My default windows installation yet works very well & I see that windows has been installed on the D: but I'm ideas from how to operate the dual-boot, can someone throw me a BONE on what to do?

Maybe try to do something with the Boot Manager (whatever it is?) Create a new partition and use it as a boot manager? I don't really want to do this, because if I made a mistake I will be unable to use my computer and dual boot should work without going through all this trouble... But I found this page: http://technet.microsoft.com/fr-fr/library/ee829686%28WS.10%29.aspx

Could a clean install two HDD help? I hope I won't have to do...

    Someone has an idea?

PS: I'm not such an advanced user so I need a solution step by step, thanks!

Edit: I also noted that I can't see my new HARD drive in my BIOS... weird... SATA-0 is my old drive HARD 1 and 2 are my dvd 3-5 readers are 'off' and it doesn't seem to be anything that it is plugged in. I also have 4 bays for internal HARD disks. Now, 2 are busy.

Edit2: I looked inside my case and enabled the good Sata in the Bios after a reboot it detected the drive correctly. Dual boot doesn't always work well... The fact that it was disable in the BIOS while I was installing the new HARD drive could change anything? Hmm...

In case I wasn't clear enough: I had a windows XP Pro installed on my C:, bought a new hard drive and installed the same copy of windows on it (d). I think that should allow me to double boot between the two installs different. Even if for some reason I can't boot from one on my D:. Andrew, I do not understand why you so far physically disconnect the other drive, the point of the whole operation is to build a boot.ini file so that the BIOS knows that it y facilities 2 windows and you allow to choose (and not have conflicting problems between the 2 systems), someone correct me if I'm wrong? "Expand" the part of my first post made reference to one of the solutions provided by Microsoft in the first link that I have included in my previous post (but I can't seem to work).

In addition, it is the procedure that I followed: http://www.ehow.com/how_5950826_boot-two-different-hard-drives.html

(except I've had the first installation already done).

Andrew "also, once a new hd is plugged on the pc & running, most of the BIOS will place (them) as 1st priority hd, set the BIOS to do this", you mean that by installing separately from windows on each unit when the other is not plugged in, I could choose what disk to start from defining their priority in the BIOS once they are all plugged back? It's too tedious (as I intend to move frequently between the 2 installs) and requires a computer to other users of the lack of computer knowledge. Unfortunately, it is not a viable option.

EDIT: I DID IT! Hmmm... Well, I double checked in the recovery console, the path of the new HARD drive with the arc command Scan. Tried to start again with the MULTI (0) in my boot.ini and it worked... I also had my windows install CD in. Maybe that is why I could not start, windows needs the CD to complete the installation? Weird, I don't know what I did to the difficulty it... but hey, it works! Thanks for your ideas guys!

  • Clean Windows 7 install hangs during expanding windows files

well, so that's what I've done so far, I have downloaded the kit of the student digital river, I originally ran Windows xp 32-bit, so when I ran first the exe download, it gave me the error of not being able to record in a single folder to read and what not, but I followed the suggestions on the forums to move forward a burn on a startup disk expandedsetup folder in converting it to an iso, which I did, I installed the first time but missed the option to format my hard drive so my old files were still there, however, once got installed win 7 I wasn't able to connect to internet for some strange reason and I couldn't understand it, so I decided to take the 3 files I downloaded originally from digital river and try their unpacking on the 64 bit OS now I had installed, it worked fine this time without any errors, so I moved the folder expandedsetup to my laptop and he burned them on a dvd as before, this time I boot from the dvd and do a clean install, it installs again very well, but once I login in the OS and I am getting started with things once again everything is grinding the long, I tried to restart and it does not work, this time it froze just a black before the paper screen, so once more, I started from the dvd and tried to do a clean install, but this time, he begins to hang during the part of expanding windows files, so I decide to make another disc using the second expandedsetup folder thinking that perhaps a new one was a bad burn, this does not work either, it takes about 14% of full on the extension of the windows files and then he told me that the files is not found, so I tried the second drive once again, we only got 4% until it gives me error on files is not found , so I put the first early in and try and suspension 4% right now and I expect to give me the same error, I have really no idea of happening, there are too many variables, but I tried to evaluate each of them, would be - this related material? my computer is compatible for win 7 64 bit, I ran the Upgrade Advisor before you buy, so I know that my hardware can run it, I think it's my dvd drive or the hard drive, but they both seem to run fine otherwise, any help would be appreciated

    Hello Impoc,

Thanks for posting on the Community Forums of Microsoft Vista.

Installation may stop if the system cannot copy files. Here are some possible causes and solutions for this problem:

    ·     Your Windows installation disc is scratched, smudged, or dirty. Clean the disc with a soft cloth, insert it in the CD or DVD drive, and then start the Windows installation again. If your installation disc is damaged, you may need to replace it. For more information, go to How to replace Microsoft software or hardware lost, broken or missing on the Microsoft Web site.

    ·     Your CD-ROM or DVD drive is not working properly or the disk might be vibrating too much for the laser correctly read data. For more information about this problem, see your hardware documentation or contact the manufacturer of the CD or DVD drive.

    ·     If your computer has multiple CD or DVD drives, your computer may attempt to locate files on the wrong drive. If your computer has a feature to disable CD or DVD drives that are not used, turn off readers that you don't use. Otherwise, try to insert the disc in a different drive, and then restart the installation.

    ·     There is a virus on your computer. Run an antivirus program to scan your system and to identify the necessary repairs. Don't forget to disable the antivirus before you start the installation again.

Also, it is usually caused by hardware or software that is not compatible with Windows 7. If you have this problem, follow these steps:

    1. wait 10 minutes to see if the installation continues. Look at the led on the hard drive (often a small light on your computer that blinks when your hard drive is running) to see if there is no activity. If your hard drive seems to be working, the installation must be current. If your hard disk doesn't seem to work, go to step 2.

    2. If the installation fails again, it may be a hardware incompatibility problem. Go to the Windows Upgrade Advisor on the Microsoft website to see if your computer can run Windows 7.

    3. If you have compatible hardware and your computer still stops responding, disable any unnecessary hardware. Remove (USB) universal serial bus devices. Remove or disable network cards, sound cards and cards of the series; and then restart the installation.

If you have more than 1 Memory stick on your computer, try to remove all but one RAM stick and try to install Windows 7.

If the computer still stops responding during installation, you may need to contact your computer manufacturer or retailer to check if the computer is compatible with Windows 7.

Also check out the link below to learn more about solving Windows installation problems:
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/troubleshoot-Windows-installation-problems

Note: This article is related to Windows Vista. However, you can follow the same steps with Windows 7.

If the installation fails after following the steps above, try to note the exact error message and provide the same.

    It will be useful.

I am convinced that Flight simulator is not intended to be run on a 64-bit computer that is very disappointing. I have a program which should install without all the aggravation I had to endure. If you run them 64-bit machines do not buy this product. I tried since it first came out. I feel at the moment where I get it going it will be a version dated date out. Wait until there is a version dedicated 64-bit, you will save yourself a lot of grief. I have an Asus dual core Centrino 2, 2.6 GB h. computer laptop with 4 GB memory. I install my DVD direct program. It worked when the computer is a 32-bit computer.

What finally worked for me when I tried to install MSFSX Gold Edition has been that I copied the disc 1 FS to my office.  Then I copied the contents of the FS 2 disc and put the files in the same folder.  When're asked you if you want to replace the files with the same name on both drives say no.  It seemed to work well for me when nothing else did.

I haven't read of anyone doing this exactly, it's my own invention/workaround bit AFAIK. Hope this works for all of you who cannot make it work otherwise.

  • Windows microsoft never does unsolicted phone calls to its users of the products?

I got a phone call from someone with a strong Indian accent yesterday (hard so communication) who claimed to be the center of windows, yhey said they had problems detected in my computer, and could I turn on the computer, to help clear it up. They also suggested that they would shut down windows on my computer. I asked to speak to a supervisor, or for them to send me an email detailing their concerns. the person seems to cover these requests, so I hung up. did microsoft ever do the unsolicited calls to its customers?

It is a scam.  Don't let them have access to your computer remotely and don't give them any personal information, including your credit card number.  Simply hang up.

Microsoft never takes unsolicited phone calls, or they do not know if/when you are experiencing computer problems.
