disks shared svMotion

I have a cluster on 2 machines (Windows and virtual) SQL Cluster Setup. Of course part of the compartment is shared.

What will happen if I svMotion in another data store?

Thank you

    Hi, I had a problem with ussing Shared Virtual Disk in the Virtual Machine to Win 7 64. (Esxi 6.0)

    -J' I (450 GB) SSD storage and I creat 2 VM ussing Win 7 64 on it. (40 for 2 VM and ~ 400 GB not of ussing)

    -J' I create a virtual disk (a disk) with option thick eager willingness to zero (400 GB). Set SCSI controller to "Virtual" in the two VM.

    -Add "Drive" VM 1, power on VM1 and Format 'A disc' as 'D:' (NTFS) volume.

    -Add "Drive" for VM2, VM2 power, and I see 'A disc' as 'D:' too. It's ok, im doing D Volume as a folder where the two VM can read and write so fast, don't need via Ethenet.

    - BUT, I got a proplem here, when I make a new folder ("Test") in the D volume in VM1, it does not show VM2 (the same when I try with VM2), but when I restart VM2, I see "Test folder" here.

    -J' have tried to control SCSI developed Physic, add SCSI(x:y) = multi writer... but it is not working properly. (I hope that it works as part of volume in windows).

    Please, give me any help. Thanks so muchhhh. I tried in 1 week, seem it's too difficult for me.

    Welcome to the community,

    This won't work unfortunately, because Windows 7 does not support shared access to a volume. To use a volume of several hosts (as ESXi does this with VMFS data stores) it is necessary that the operating system is aware of which - as mentioned earlier - Windows 7 isn't.

    What you can do is to assign the virtual disk to only one of the 7 VM window, share the disk (or folder) and map the network on the other virtual computer.

  • Replicate the VMS with FTP and VM with virtual disk shared by: SRM with vSphre replication

    I have a VM and FT is configured on it. Now I can reproduce the virtual machine with SRM with replication of vSphere. I have not configured array based replication. Similarly, I have two DB VMs cluster, but they share a virtual disk between them. Can I replicate these VMs DB with vSphere replication?

    Your valuable contribution is much appreciated.

    I got the answer, for the virtual machine with FT and shared virtual disk replication, to do SRM with array based replication. vSphere replication cannot replicate virtual machine with FT or shared disk.

  • How to create disk shared across virtual machines on different hosts

    Hello

    We implement Oracle RAC on two virtual machines, one on each of the two armies for redundancy. For our installation:

    • The two ESXi hosts two SAN access a logical unit number.
    • Two virtual machines on the hosts must have access to a single virtual disk on this LUN (or unit number logic itself) at the same time.

    We tried the following:

    • Creation of a data store associated with the LUN, and then creating a new hard drive on each virtual machine using the same virtual disk on the data store. This operation failed because as soon as a virtual computer runs, the other virtual computer cannot run since the first has a lock on the file from the disk.
    • Creation of a new hard drive on the virtual machine through RDM. This operation failed because only the first virtual machine has this option of disc. Once the ROW has been assigned to the LUN, the other virtual computer cannot create its own RDM for the LUN.

    I'm learning just VMware so I can miss a fundamental method to accomplish this, or perhaps, it is not possible at all. You know a way to create the installer I described?

    Welcome to the community,

    I can not specifically help with the Oracle RAC, however, I would recommend that you take a look at MSCS documentation for how to configure shared disks. There is a difference in the way in which you have installed the VM, for example all VMs on an ESXi host or on different hosts. Please keep in mind that MSCS is a cluster without sharing, which means that only one node at a time has access to a shared virtual disc/RDM.

  • Disk sharing works only with RDM

    I've got 2 VMS using RDM to share a LUN.  Adding the drive using RDM on ESX machines was not an issue, and readers of editing on Windows hosts has been problem free.  I can now see the drive and write on both machines.  The problem is that all files that I add to the reader with the hosts are powered only appear on the host opposed unless the two machines are re-initialized.  PowerPath on both machines shows the disk online and active, so I am at a loss as to why the files are not copied to.  Any help is appreciated.

    Welcome to the community,

    I'm surprised that you have not even data corruption. Windows NTFS is not supported to be accessed by multiple instances (with the exception of Hyper-V). In addition to this - if I'm not wrong - shared RDM is only supported in a cluster without sharing (i.e. MSCS) where one VM at a time accesses the RDM.

  • Disk shared across hostsystems without RDM

    Hi all

    We use

    vSphere 4.0 U1 and I would like to set up a frontend with Linux cluster

    for one of our applications. That's why we need the capability of

    share a drive between two different VMs on two systems of different hosts.

    I found a book "Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft

    The cluster Service"which covers the subject of shared disk. Is it possible

    share a file of common instead drive a RDM LUN?

    There is also a KB

    Article:

    http://KB.VMware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC & docType = kc & externalId = 1002782 & sliceId = 1 & docTypeID = DT_KB_1_1 & dialogID = 83230062 & StateID = 0% 200% 2095753095

    Unfortunately, it does not give much information.

    Thank you

    your help.

    Hello

    If the VM disk is a clustered file system and that a clustered file system then it is perhaps possible to do what you want but only on a single host. In general, however, it is alleged that you use RDM to solve this particular problem, such as the blocking of VMFS does not come into play.

    The question that is below this, the ESX host running the VM locks write access to these blocks of storage in a given host. This allows to reduce the problems blocking and SCSI reservation conflicts. They are reserved only for this host. So if another host tries to access a drive that is already used by another host, that it will not work as the blocks on that VMFS are reserved for the first host that is running the virtual computer. When you use a RDM is NOT the case, as the WDR don't use VMFS but just present as a LUN.

    Another option is to have a VSA as the Celerra VSA, OpenFiler, FreeNAS iSCSI, etc. serve clustered volumes to each of the nodes in the cluster. This way you don't need a RDM.

    It is the nature of VMware ESX/ESXi locking and mechanisms to reduce the amount of scsi reservation conflicts.

  • / Q on disks shared with the MP configuration

    Hello

    I'm actually setting up an architecture with Tuxedo 10.3 MP.
    I would like to know if it is possible to configure two servers of TMS_QM sites on the same file/q on the shared disks.
    I tried to set this up and it works, but I wonder if this architecture is validated or if each site must have is own/q

    I wish I had this in my UBB:

    "QUEMP1" LMID = "SITE1" = 1 GRPNO
    OPENINFO = "" TUXEDO/QM: / sharedevice:myqueuespace ' "
    TMSNAME = "TMS_QM".
    TMSCOUNT = 3
    "QUEMP2" LMID = "SITE2" GRPNO = 2
    OPENINFO = "" TUXEDO/QM: / sharedevice:myqueuespace ' "
    TMSNAME = "TMS_QM".
    TMSCOUNT = 3

    Thank you for your answers and I'm sorry if this question has been asked before, but I have not found in the forum

    Hi Cyril,.

    Sharing a file to queue/q space is not taken in charge and likely to cause unexpected behavior. You can have multiple servers on a single computer, TMQUEUE manages the same queue space to increase the performance, but it works because all the servers TMQUEUE coordinate their activities through a shared memory segment. Since the shared memory segment is available only on a single machine, it is not possible to share spaces of the queue on several computers. Even if it can be working for you (which surprises me that it works in all), my guess is that under heavy load, you get either corruption space to queue or messages delivered more than once or maybe not at all.

    Each machine should have its own space to queue and queue space related files.

    We are working on a solution to this problem to allow sharing of spaces of waiting on multiple computers, but it's still just a work in progress.

  • Problem of SAN disk sharing

    I am trying to share a SAN between ESX 4.0 and a 2008 physical disk server.  The windows Server 2008 has onit netbackup and netbackup must be able to see the same LUNS as the vmware esx so it can back up data through the fiber.  When we present a lun on the esx server and create a data store, then I try to bring back the same LUNS online on the windows 2008 server it will not go online it says device is not ready.  We did a test and present another windows 2008 server, and ESX server logical unit number and I brought the LUN online on the windows 2008 server but then I couldn't do a data store on the ESX Server.  What we lack to be abel to have two servers share the disks?

    Please let meknow if anyone encountered this problem and the fix possible.

    Thank you for your help

    The snapshot for EMC San feature is an additional feature, so that you will have to pay.  You will need to speak with that whether you bought your San to to see if you can get this functionality or if you already have this feature.

  • Change sharing permissions, now I can't access the local disk

    Hello all, I have two computers, both running windows 7 (one is 64-bit and the other is 32-bit) connected via LAN and WiFi. One of them has all of the local disk shared with full compensation for everyone (full control). I decided to remove these permissions and control to "deny". Then I had to cancel the task and decided to resume later. HURT, now I've lost access to this drive, even though I can access some files. When I try to enter in the drive, an error message appears saying "C: is not accessible. Access is denied. I did some research and it seems to be a common problem, but I followed all the steps did not work. It shows as 0 bytes and security options does not show anything, but "you don't have permission to view or change the permissions of the object settings. I tried to adapt, even in safe mode and as administrator, do not to prevail. It keeps saying 'access denied' I also tried to set a hidden administrator account, but the account manager is 'not available for my system' when I made these unfortunate changes, it was not this computer but on the other, I think it might be the reason. Now, I can not access my local disk or change anything. Please, help me, I can't find a solution to this mess!

    I run root.sh on the second node only after finished on the first node.

    In terms of VMware configuration, I've marked the disk.locking = "FALSE".

    It is obvious that the diskgroup CRS would be already mounted by the first node. DiskGroup "CRS" already mounted in a different namespace locking

  • Is Microsoft Failover Cluster ESXi 4.1 Shared Disk of NFS data store, it supported?

    Is Microsoft Failover Cluster ESXi 4.1 Shared Disk of NFS data store, it supported?

    We have a request from MS Failover Cluster configuration on Windows 2008 R2 2 guests with a storage shared for a web application. However, there is no VMFS storage of data or the ability of the CF to presending RDM. So, I created the disks shared on a NFS datastore using option "Setup for Failover Clustering and Microsoft Cluster Service" and have added the cluster disk and tested successful failover.

    But the MS cluster validation control cancelled storage and I want to know if that configuration is not taken because of supported.

    A notice would be useful.

    We are also working on setting up a cluster of ESXi for iSCSI storage, which can be leveraed for this purpose.

    Shyam-

    Its not supported.

    4.1, your only options supported are:

    • CF storage with pRDMs
    • iSCSI storage with initiators guest.
  • Disk utility can not create large image of drive (60 GB) on the network share

    Disc Utiity (Versie 15.0 (1511.3)):

    I am creating a disc from a hard disk image. I want to save the image on a Synology DS414 network share.

    The share is accessible a there is no active disk quota.

    I copied a large file via Finder (384 MB) to the \\partagereseau that works.

    When I try to record a copy of disk sharing (60 GB), I get the following message:

    Unsatisfactory area is available on "(null)" to create the NAME of diskimage. Choose another volume with at least 60 GB of available space and continue.

    Summary: I can create large files on the share, but the disc utilities cannot?

    Greetings Wim

    384 MB is nowadays is no longer considered to be a file of "big."

    You don't mention how much space is actually available on the Synology but for arguments sake, we will assume that more than 60 GB of space is available.

    So in theory it should be possible to create a disk image of 60 GB (no doubt), there is enough space available. As you say there is no set of storage quotas and I'm happy to believe that. I think that the issue could be more to do with the maximum allowed size of the file, remember that I mentioned that 384 is actually not much, although some systems have a limit of 4 GB for a single file, for example FAT32 file systems have such a limit. In theory the FAT32 limit should not apply here because almost all including Synology NAS servers actually use Linux as the underlying software and so use Ext3 or Ext4 as file system, not FAT32. Same Ext2 a fortiori Ext3 or Ext4 allowing individuals will produce up to 2 TB of size which is clearly much larger than 60 GB.

    Still it could be related to that question even if it is necessary as an unnecessary and artificial limit may be for example to ensure compatible with other systems using FAT32.

    If you have enough space on the Mac, you could create and try to copy on the Synology, however another approach which is probably better all around is to create a "sparsebundle disk image. It's a disc image, but another type and will work around this problem because it is in fact made up of lots of all small files attached together. As that user do you see this as image a big drive, but the computer sees it as a folder full of files much smaller.

  • Disks hard not found on normal startup, but reappear in Mode safe

    I had problems with my system, since I manually (like to press the power button) shut down my system XP W when ThinkPoint gave me a screen fake infection and wouldn't let me close the window.  After that, all symptoms shouted 'virus' (slow performance, browser redirections, etc.) then I ran scans with MacAffee, Malwarebytes, and SuperAntiSpyware.   Malwarebytes found two instances of bad registry, but SAS and Macaffee entries do nothing are, repeatedly.  Also, when I tried to boot the system after the scans, I arrived at the last MS Windows display before the connection of the guest user and after five seconds of so on this window, a blue screen popped up for literally less than half second, and the computer restarted after the BIOS screen.  It simply wouldn't start with extra hard drives connected (1 SATA channel and two EIDE disks) UNLESS I started in safe mode.  Then she start and recognize all readers.

    After a nice weekend by removing what was left of my hair, and after reading MSE on the web, I uninstalled MacAfee, downloaded and installed MSE; so quickly found seven problems.  They are (were):

    After performing the analysis and removing the offending files I tried to reconnect the SATA 1 canal drive, but got the same behavior; a normal start to the last image of Windows XP for low resolution, then quick blue screen (which, although I tried several times by pressing the pause/break key I still have to read... my fingers seem not to be fast enough to catch it) and repeated that it recharges, all with the same effect.  My question is if I burned my motherboard, or is there something I'm missing.  Oh, and one of the attempts of repair was a relocation complete W XP and all the service packs and updates.  Still no access to the hard drives.  As I am a photographer/editor, and there are about 2 million files on my hard drive I sort of need them.

    One step probably you should take is to do a system restore; However, since you have reinstalled Windows, backup directories are probably history.

    Safe mode is just Windows running with most of the programs and services.  Usually when Safe Mode works fine, but the Normal Mode is not, it is because a program or a Service that starts in Normal Mode interferes somehow.  How to attack, that is to use 'msconfig' utility of Microsoft selectively enable/disable optional programs and miscellaneous services until you find one that gives you grief.  This can be a long trial and error method.  In addition, it is unlikely that you have a hardware problem, if you can access the drives in safe mode.

    In any case, my first step if I were you would to save critical data on your other internal readers on an external USB drive.  If you can not do this under Windows, then create a CD of Linux Live free (for example Knoppix ), boot from this CD and then back up the data on your discs to a USB stick or a network drive.  Creating a Linux Live disk is also simple download one ".iso" file and use the "burn Image" of your program of CD burning to create the bootable CD.
