Two points:

1. you must first be sure that you have an appropriate program installed
to open a file of this type. You have PowerPoint installed? Or the
Free PowerPoint Viewer? Otherwise, you must get one of these or some
other compatible program.

2. Once you are sure to have an appropriate program installed for
This type of file, you must ensure that the association for this file
type is properly configured. If following step 1 above means that you
install a program, it will probably set up the association for
you.
If you have to set up the association yourself, in my opinion, will
Control Panel is the hard way to do it. Here's an easy way: find
any program of this type on your hard drive, right-click on it, and
Choose open with. Select or locate the correct program, check them
zone «Always use...» ", and then click OK.

Usually, not necessarily always, this has to do with Internet Explorer (or your main browser that you use) that has all of its default settings enabled.

    To check that...

Start button... Default programs... Set your default programs... column on the left, click on Internet Explorer or your main browser.

Back he said... This program has all its flaws?

If not, click on choose by default for this program... He's to tick the boxes below the list... Click Svae when finished.

To be on the safe side, use the same method and make sure that your e-mail program is your default program.

  • Problems of Windows Mail attachments

Whenever I try to send a photo attachment - it automatically attaches a copy of the image in the body of the e-mail message and then refused to send the email - by saying: this is incorrect, and then it is blocked.  I can't yet answer to a message I get if there a photo attached; Help, please

    Hi Sheri Meyers

Welcome to Microsoft Vista answers Forum!

I would like to ask a few questions to help us focus in the right place.

1 how long have you been faced with this problem?

    2. If it works well before?

    3. may I know what mail client do you use?

I have a few here that might solve the problem.

I suggest to disable anti-virus and check if you can send emails with attachments.

    Step 1:

If the problem persists, I would start the computer in safe mode with network and check if you are able to send emails with attachments, safe mode starts Windows with a limited set of files and drivers. Startup programs do not run in safe mode, and only the basic drivers needed to start Windows are installed that, follow these steps to start the computer in safe mode with networking:

1 restart your computer if it is running.

    2. tap on the F8 key after your initially on powers computer.

    3. Once you see the menu Advanced Boot Options, you can stop tapping.

    4. use the up/down arrow keys to highlight your selection.

    5. Select Mode safe mode with networking and press ENTER.

    6. you should see loading drivers and wait please.

    7. you should then be at the Welcome screen.

    8. connect to your computer using an account with administrator privileges.

    More information: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/help/323ef48f-7b93-4079-a48a-5c58eec904a11033.mspx

Let's see now if you are able to send mails with attachments, if you are able to send emails, go to step 2 to perform a clean boot on the computer.

    Step 2:

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

How to run check and clean boot if you have the problem.

    1. click on start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    User account control permission

If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click on continue.

    2. in the general tab, click Selective startup.

    3. under Selective startup, clear the check box load startup items.

    4. click on the Services tab, select the hide all Microsoft Services check box, and then click Disable all.

    5. click on OK.

    6. When you are prompted, click on restart.

    7. after the computer starts, check if the problem is resolved.

If the problem is resolved, check what is the cause of the problem, referring to the link given below: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: Make sure to put the computer to a normal state in following step 7 in the above link

You can check the link for create shortcuts for the programs on the desktop: http://windowshelp.microsoft.com/Windows/en-US/Help/52f853fe-de4d-4924-bfc0-0373fcf862391033.mspx

  • Saved attachments in Windows Mail do not appear in the actual file

In Vista, using Windows Mail, attachments are saved to disk hard aren't really there.  It does not matter what type of file it is.  When you click on an attachment to a paperclip icon and navigate to the folder on the hard disk where you want to save the file, the file seems to save successfully.  But, when you go to this real folder through 'Computer', the file is not really there.  If you go back to the email and save it, it says that the file already exists (although looking at the file in a Windows Explorer window, it is not there).  If you save multiple attachments from Windows Mail to a folder, the record is displayed all files in this folder... but none are really there.  What is the problem here?

My only guess is that some 3rd party program is screw things upwards.  You can check for antimalware, antispam, or antivirus software and see if that might be the problem (seewww.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3).  In OE, we suggest set you up a new identity, but it is not so easy in WinMail.  I guess you'll just to workaround it.  To ensure that the economy of attachment is selected under Tools | Options | Security also.

We tried.  This is even if hidden files are marked to show or not.  It does not matter where you save the file in... it will not be displayed in a regular Windows Explorer window, or be seen by other software (for example, whether a file you want to import into a program).

If you double-click the message to open it in its own window and drag the attachment to a Windows Explorer window, it save successfully and can be seen and used as usual.

  • Windows Mail does not open an attachment with a .pdf file extension.

When clicking on an attachment that ends with .pdf, I get an error message saying that there is no program assigned to this file type and head to "Define the Associations" in the Panel.  The problem I have is that the control panel for the Windows Vista operating system has assigned to this type of file Adobe and I have no way to access a control panel just for Windows Mail independently.  When you set the 'association '?

    Do this first.

    1. download and save the attachment to the office.
    2. right click on the saved file.
    3. Select: Open with on the shortcut menu.
    4. click on: choose [default] program.
    5. Select:

  • Windows Mail displays messages with attachments, even when they are not

I am running Vista Business SP2 and Windows Mail 6 worm.

Many, but not all messages display attachment in the attachment column icon, but they have no attachments.  When you click on the message, there is no icon of attachment in the message header.

Messages that have attachments are working very well.

Is there a setting that can be changed so that these messages that really have no attachments do not appear as they do in the attachment column?  I went through all the settings options and found nothing.

My computer is always protected against viruses if I disable e-mail analysis?

Disable e-mail analysis won't let you without protection against viruses that are distributed as attachments to email. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved on your hard drive, email and attachments to emails. Scan to email is just another layer on top of that. To make sure that Auto-Protect provides maximum protection, keep active Auto-Protect and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions.

You could always dump AVG and MSE try. It has no analysis of electronic mail and is well rated. MS made mistakes certainly, but they got this right.
