Display problem on Satellite Pro M40

When I turn on my laptop, the screen stays dark.
I have hooked up to an external monitor and you can get a signal that allows me to connect. Once logged into windows xp the laptop screen rises suddenly in life.

Tried using the Fn + F5 on market, but it does not work.
Do check the BIOS and settings in power windows and can see nothing obvious.
Put the laptop to dual screen laptop and CRT, but when I reboot, all I get is a signal through the external display (until I log in to windows), then the screen of the laptop begin to operate.
No changes to the settings or installed any new software for this development.
Tried to restore Windows to a checkpoint system well before it started, but not joy.

Any ideas?

Hello

Have you changed the display of the external monitor to a default monitor?

In this case the display of laptops will not work until the OS is responsible.
Well, please check in the properties of the graphics card if the internal display of laptops is set as a default view!

If that doesn't help I would recommend checking if it of possible to start Notepad in safe mode and if the books display can be activated.
If all the settings of this change, then the installation of the new system would be desirable.

Good luck

    Hello

This problem occurs in the mode Windows safe?
Use own graphics cards drivers in windows safe mode and if this doesn t matter are present in safe mode so I guess it could be a graphics driver. But if this problem persists in safe mode then it s a hardware malfunction.
In this case, the only way to solve it is to contact the Toshiba service partner in your country.

There are not many options. The display is probably defective or maybe the contacts are responsible for this. Sorry, but it must be checked by a technician.

  • Starting problems with Satellite Pro M40 running Windows XP SP2

The computer suddenly shuts off when I was with her. I turned back on it and all I get now is a screen that apologize for any inconvenience and telling me that Windows is not started successfully, with options to start IE in their different ways.

Trunk / normal etc. I tried them all without success, if anyone has any ideas I would be very grateful.

    Hello

    > Safe/normal etc. I tried, without success,
Because of your statement in the first post, I guess that the laptop does not start correctly and you can not access the windows.
In this case, I recommend simpler OS reinstall from the recovery CD.

If this procedure fails, the malfunction of equipment is possible in such cases, it is not easy to say what could be wrong.
But we should concentrate on the memory and HARD drive
However, if you have n t own resources for troubleshooting I recommend to contact a technician for additional help.

  • Satellite Pro M40: screen remains dark until Windows has fully loaded

    Hello to all here.
I have a problem with my laptop. My laptop is a Satellite Pro M40.

When I turn on my laptop, I found the backlight won't come... the screen will stay dark until it has fully loaded into Windows. I've checked all my food, and there all fine options. Even if I can get the Bios screen its impossible to read the txt because without backlight. I tried to hold the Fn & F7... joy of Noy.

    Someone at - it ideas?

    Richard

    Hello Richard

I didn't see anything like that before and I'm a bit confused why you can't see the BIOS settings, but running the OS. Use of the FN + F7 key combination won't help because this option only works on Windows and not on the level of the BACK.

If possible try to plug the external monitor and test again. In any case I put t think you can fix it yourself. Try please contact Toshiba authorized partner in your country. Explain the situation and see what they say.

If you discover that something please let us know. It will be really interesting to know why this happen.

  • Satellite Pro M40 - touchpad and click left tips repair

    Hello

I have a problem with the left click of my Satellite Pro M40 (PSM46E). He lost the 'click '.
Someone has some tips to take the top off to repair? What screws and how etc?

    Thank you very much

    Hello!

I think that you will get some guides because only a FSA (authorized service provider) has someone. These documents are not intended for the public.

I put t know how to disassemble the laptop, but this procedure is delicate. You must remove many screws and parts such as keyboard, LCD, top cover and so far.

    * You can try and try but it s your own risk *. I think that this should be by a technician for laptop.

In addition, I created an article may be interesting for you:

  • Satellite Pro M40: Files on DVD/CD not visible

If data are burned to DVD or CD (+ R or + RW completed another manufacturer) then inserted in my Satellite Pro M40 PC he can see folder names but he cannot see all the files in the folder. When you click on the files, he says they are empty!

When the same disks are inserted on other devices (on DVD players connected to a TV), records show the files and files open without problem.

Sometimes the same disc when inserted in the pc, can be detected as drive is invalid

Audio and video disks are no problem and open immediately.

I am at a loss because even if I backed up all my data I can't re - insert the data if I lose it.

    Hello

There are different reasons why you CD/DVD drive doesn t manage burned CDs.
First all CD or DVD is compatible.
I had a lot of problems with my mediums sometimes burned the disc was able to read, sometimes, it was not possible.

I changed the burn at a lower speed, and which has slightly improved the situation. I also changed burning software.
Now I use the Nero burning Rom software. It s really good program.

But the main reason for these problems is the anomaly of lens laser discs. After a long period of work of the lens cannot calibrate properly and therefore can't handle the media inserted in this case only a replacement drive helps.

  • Need advice on the Satellite Pro M40

I wonder if someone could advise me. We just bought 8 smart tips for our school with these I ordered 8 portable computers SatProM40. When I ordered them I checked the spec as follows

    Toshiba SatProM40 - Celeron M360 1.4 GHz - RAM 256 MB - HD 40 GB-CD RW/DVD-ROM combo - Mdm - Lan EN - FAST EN - Win XP Pro - 15.4 "TFT.

I checked before I ordered that the RAM was 256 because I had heard that it is the minimum recommended to switch to XP.

Laptops take almost 5 minutes to turn on and everything takes an age to work it's really frustrating and they are totally useless for our school because the entire lesson is included with get the computers to run anything.

I checked the system information and found laptops were running of 192 MB RAM and rang the provider. I was told that they used 64 MB for the graphics card and that's why they had provided a RAM of 256 MB computer.

My question to someone who can help:-c' is a normal practice. If I had known this I would have ordered a laptop computer with more RAM to compensate.

He would welcome any advice that would help us get our children working on their new computers. Thank you.

    Hi Lisa

In my view, Satellite Pro M40 is nice unit for school work, but I agree with you really is 256 MB minimum RAM and I recommend you buy more 256 MB or 512 MB, depending on your budget.

    The compatible RAM modules are:
    PC2700 256 MB (PA3311U - 2M 25)
    PC2700 512 MB (PA3312U - 2M 51)

Problem is that this device uses shared memory and that means that RAM will be used also for graphic designers. If there is someone who has a good knowledge of PC that they check all running processes. Many of them are unnecessary and can be disabled. I also noticed that preinstalled Antivir asks (Norton) slow OS quickly. If all units are not connected to the internet I recommend you to remove it.
By the way: there are many applications of good antivir which works well and don't slow down the operating system currently running.

    Good luck!

  • Cannot set external LCD 1080 x 1050 resolution - Satellite Pro M40

    Hello

I just bought a Samsung LCD 226BW screen and my Satellite Pro M40 (PSM46E) makes me crazy. First of all, I could put the display driver in 1080 x 1050, but suddenly dissappeared option. I reinstalled the display driver, but no luck. He even got to the point of despair that I reinstalled the computer laptop everything, but it still does not work.

I tried to download the display driver for the ATI Radeon XPress 200 M series the Web of ATI site, but it did not support my graphics card.

Does anyone have a suggestion for what do I do? Thanks in advance!

    Best regards
    André

    Hello

Did you receive a CD driver or software with your external monitor?
I read in this forum that a lot of users received this CD and was able to activate this resolution of the screen.

I think that the monitor manufacturers provide some .ini files which contain the information on the external resolution. This file must be replaced!

But have you tested the graphics driver on the www.omegadrivers.net site?
Check if these pilots will help you activate this screen resolution!

    Good luck

  • Satellite Pro M40, failure of the hard drive - the new disk restore disk?

    Hello

My Satellite Pro M40 hard drive died and I want to install a new drive. Unfortunately, my old drive is 60Gig and the Web of Toshiba parts site has only 40 GB or 80 gig drives.

I have problems with the recovery disk if the hard drive is not exactly the same thing?

    Your advice would be appreciated.

    C

No, he should t be any problem with the Toshiba Recovery CD.

On the recovery CD, you'll find a Windows OS, Toshiba drivers and utilities and software further.
These entire applications are packed into image files.

You should only be sure that the HARD drive is compatible with your laptop and it will be recognized in the BIOS.
Then simply to boot from the recovery and installation CD must start.

  • Satellite Pro M40 RAM fit laptop model L650?

    Hello

I recently upgraded from my Satellite Pro M40 to a L650 because the M40 is dead.
I was wondering if I could use the ram that I put in, in the L650?

I'm guessing it will not, but thought I'd ask just in case.

    Thank you

Sorry, but I don t know why this combination. Max RAM on M40 is 2x1GB and I think you're in L650 2x2gb. Right?

It makes no sense to me.
I put t know what L650 you have exactly, but some models can be upgraded up to 8 GB, so it will be better for you to upgrade with a 4 GB of RAM L650. Part number is PA3677U-1M4G.

By the way: there are different bus clock etc new notebook you should only use modules compatible and faster.

    Hello

Usually it of possible to remove the simple keys on the keyboard.
If you want to back up the key on the keyboard if Cap you only have to push down the CAP.
Then the CAP must be placed on the keyboard and shouldn't pop off t.
She she s is not possible, then of course, you can try to contact Toshiba service partner in your country to replace the CAP button or the entire keyboard. (I'm not sure about the part by replacing m)

  • Satellite Pro M40: HARD drive replacement

    Hello

I recently bought a new hard drive for my satellite pro m40 like my old man, we broke up I put the hard drive in the machine properly and it's the same speed, size etc, but the laptop does not recognize it at all.

I tried to swap back to the old hard drive and he acknowledges, the news is a number of slightly different model a new the original is mk6022gax and original is mk6026gax. the two 60 GB, I am told. Please help me if you can.

    Thank you.

    Hi Ollie,

The only reason I can think is that the new hard drive is may not be configured correctly for your laptop. I know that some Toshiba drives are supplied as C - salt rather than the more usual master configuration, but these are normally reported as such on the nameplate.

It is possible to change the setting of the drive (see the following URL for details) http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/storage/p69067/jumpers.htm

It is also possible that the new disk is defective (unlikely but it should be considered).

    Kind regards
