downloaded file disappears

When I download a file from my email account or even from Mozilla plugins updates, the file is set to go to a specific location under Firefox Tools/Options/general tab. If I click right during the download and select 'Open containing folder', it shows that is happening at this place. However, when the download is complete and I go to the location, the file is not there. I tried following some instructions in the help file, that is to say, by deleting files in the profile folder, reset the history options of downloads, even update of Firefox to 4.0 to 5.0. Nothing has worked.
In addition, somewhere along the line my software AVG 8.5 Free disappeared. I read in the forums that there are some incompatibilities between Firefox and AVG, but until the download works, I can not yet to experience.
Finally, since the 15/05/2011, all .wmv files attached to my email can be opened in Windows Media Player but return with this error "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The player might not support the file type or does not support the codec used to compress the file. "Help!

It was great! It worked! Not only do you have it save the .wmv e-mail file I tried to download, I was also able to play the file in Windows Media Player, so that I couldn't before.

What I specifically did open a new tab, type "about.config" in the location bar, select the "browser.download.manager.scanWhenDone" file, right-click on it and select toggle, which transformed the 'true' to 'false', essentially disabling my anti-virus software (non-working AVG) by analyzing the file after downloading. Then I closed the window, went to my email and downloaded .wmv setting, and here it has been saved where I told him to go. I double-clicked and he started to play in WMP.

YADIRA! Thank you very much!

    2. What is the error message?

Every time we download any program or game, download rest dialog box open or closed once the download is complete. The dialog box remains open if the option "close when the download is complete" is not enabled and if she chose the closed box dialog box.

When the dialog box disappears, it means that the download is finished. We recommend that you find the location of the downloaded file. Once youfind the file, open it to install the game.
Once the game is installed, restart the computer and launch it from the menu start.
    a. Click Start, click all programs.
    b. click on the element of game in the list to start.

    Hello

I had folders and files, now all files disappeared, records remain only. Files where 2 photos, 2 .txt files, a shortcut to a Web page and a few other similar stuff.

I'm not sure what I did to create the problem, I saw the elements disappear I think when I moved an image on the desktop.

I tried looking for one of the files by using the advanced search (search in files hidden, etc.) and to recycle bin but there is nothing.

So where can they pass? If you suggest me to do system restore I would like to know what system restore will remove it from my pc, because I download files when this incident's product.

    Thank you

    Hi Jack,

Follow the below mentioned methods and check.

Method 1: You can try to unmask the hiddden files and check.

  • Cannot find downloaded files

    Hello!

I just spent several hours trying to download and install a Media manager program frm Verizon (to manage the files downloaded from my phone).  The download dialog box will appear and the download is normally; However, no matter if I try to save or to run or to know if him "close this dialog box...". "is checked or not - at the end of the download, the dialog box disappears and the downloaded file is not found.

After reading other posts, I tried:

    • create a new administrator account and use - no difference
    • disable the AVG software and put IE8 in unprotected mode - no difference
    • Add the name of the file to the 'safe' list in AVG - no difference

I didn't know all of the other posts to this problem where a person actually said something worked!

Any help out there?  I need to download these pictures on my phone for work!

    Thank you

    ~ Deborah

    Hi IDICWorld,

    1. are you able to find other files downloaded from internet?

    2. This only happens with the media manager program?

When you download files, Windows usually saves in the Downloads folder which is located under your user name in the users folder on the drive where Windows is installed (for example C:\users\your name\downloads). When you save the file, you can choose to save it in a different folder. By default, some file types are saved in different folders. For example, if you right click on an image on a Web page and choose Save the image as in the menu, the image will be saved in the default pictures folder. If you don't know where the file has been saved, you can search for it in the start menu.

Also see the link below for more places to find downloaded files.

Search for a file that you have downloaded

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/find-a-file-you-have-downloaded

If the issue is not specific to the program manager of media, then you will need to contact the vendor of the program for more information.

  • Can not find the downloaded files

I don't know exactly when it started, but suddenly I can't find all the downloaded files.  I get prompted to run or save the file, and then on the progress bar window and the file download, but any place I pick up (or even if I chose to simply run the program), the dialog boxes disappear when the download is complete.  The files are not where I told them to be stored and they are not anywhere else on the computer.  When I choose to run a program, I get a dialog box for that either.  This problem occurs no matter what browser I use.  I did some digging and I came across several others with the same problem and there seems to be a problem with Windows Update.  Suggestions are to uninstall the latest updates to fix the problem, but I think it started several weeks ago and I don't want uninsatll everything.  Any help is appreciated.
