Dual operating system XP & Win7

Hello smart people - years ago, I ran successfully asked that one XP Pro and XP Home on a pc without a score - at the start, I wanted to use. Simple. But this time I want to run XP Home on a pc with Win7. Yet once, prefer not to partition simply install on same Drive #, put in a folder called XP Home and ask that one to run. Everyone sees the problems arising from the installation of XP in an environment of Win7? Thank you - JazzJ

Windows 7 does not support the dual boot on the partition, which ended with the release of Windows Vista. If you want to double boot two operating systems, Windows 7 must be installed on a separate partition.

Please see the following article with useful information about dual-boot:

    Nice day

Normally with the double load, Windows 7 is the primary OS and then you switch to XP. However, once you switch to XP, the only way to get back to Windows 7 using recovery disks of Windows 7, you must have created before downgrading to Windows XP. However, the procedure will be to click on start, all programs, Acer eRecovery management, restore, completely restore to the factory settings, click on and you then get a pop up in the middle of the screen with Windows XP X 86 and options Windows 7 x 86 which you can select one, click ok, then, machine will restart and begin to load the operating system that you selected.

  • Two operating systems on PC with Windows7

I have new PC running windows 7 Home premium. I can load XP pro to run as a dual operating system with windows 7?   Any help is appreciated?

    Thank you, racer20

Racer, Yes, you can do a dual boot with Win7 and XP Pro.  However, it can be a little difficult to find drivers for your components.  I run a dual-boot system for several years.  I did it both ways; a single drive hard and two partitions of two separate hard drives.  I recommend two hard drives.  This way, you have an operating system if a hard drive fails.

Here's a guide to help you.

No, when 2 or more operating systems on a construction machine means logically divide the machine at 2 or to several machines and we do not want a VM to interfere with the other virtual machine (s) (in short, we don't want a mess) and each operating system runs on its border.

  • In a configuration of dual boot Vista/Vista, where are the operating system files stored in another copy of Vista?

In one, the operating system is in the C:\Windows folder. Where the operating system is stored on the 2nd partition?

    Hi BDTT.

If you have installed the Windows vista operating system in a dual-boot on two partitions Setup then you find another folder Windows in the second disc of the partition.

    For example: C:\Windows and D:\Windows.

When you start in any partition the root drive letter would change to the C:\ drive.

    I hope this helps!

  • After leaving Win10 Win7 upgrade, error "operating system not found"!

My son has been upgrading its laptop Win7 to Win10.  The upgrade has been painfully slow (more than 7 hours) and hooked to 85% achieved 35% of writing configuration files.  The light of the fool presented no signs of activity of the HARD drive for hours.  In disgust that it finally just manually turned off and restarted.  Windows says it's re-installed his previous operating system.  Everything seemed fine at the time.

The next day, as he watched a training video and 25 minutes in the laptop just went to a black screen and showed 'Unknown device Boot' and "Can't find Operating System" error messages.  (Of course he had just looked away for a second because this happened and looked at the back after stopping the audio.)  Manually, it turned off and rebooted 3 times before it should start!

Is that going to be a problem for him in the future?  Now, he's not sure he wants 10 Windows.

  • Can I use a legitimate DVD Win7 product key to activate the operating system already installed?

I used a DVD Windows 7 Home Premium I bought from Amazon to install on 2 computers, THEN discovered the 2nd computer would not accept the product key.  I don't want to reinstall the OS and I can't seem to find a place online legitimately sell just a product key, so if I buy another DVD on Amazon, the product key that comes with it will allow the existing installation to activate, or do I have to spend a day or more to reload the operating system, drivers, programs, settings etc, just to stinking activation?

This information is partially incorrect. OEM System Builder licenses come with a product key.

Yes, it does not require a clean install, but because you already have Windows 7 Home Premium installed to use your retail disk, all you have to do is to change the product key, no installation required.

  • Install Windows on SMU-8133 (with time real operating system already installed)

    Hi all

I have an SMU-8133 NI with a real-time operating system (OR Real - Time PharLap 13.1). Now I want to install Windows on it and make it dual-boot (I want to keep the original real time operating system). So my question is how do I install Windows without erasing the current real time operating system?

I tried to just install Win7 (starting from USB) but it says "Windows cannot be installed on disk 0 Partition 1" because she needs NTFS (what we have is the FAT I think). If Win7 is unavailable, Windows XP is also correct, but I still prefer Win7.

    Thank you!

As a general rule, Windows don't play well with other operating systems installed on a drive, there will be some efforts to preserve the existing installation of RT OS if it is a requirement.  The simplest approach would be to wipe the entire disk, installing Windows and then reinstall LabVIEW RT.

If you can start from scratch, you must first make sure that the partitioning is correct.  Since you did not purchase this as a Windows / controller dual boot RT initially, you do not have Windows installation media OR, correctly configure the partitions from disk for you.  You will need to do this manually during the installation of Windows.  The best approach is to create two partitions, one for the RT and a Windows.  RT the partition must be the first partition on the disk.  Install Windows on the second partition.  Once Windows is installed, convert the 1st partition to FAT32 using the built in Windows or a 3rd party partitioning tool utilities.  You should now have a system with Windows installed correctly and ready to be fitted to RT.

Change your SMU-8133 to boot RT using the BIOS Setup menu or hardware DIP switch.  It should boot to safemode RT.  From another host PC, find your target in MAX.

You can now put your target if you want to switch to the FAT32 file system the system of dependency files.  You can do this through MAX, or by using the utility RT USB key.  See herefor details on this step.

Warning: Before doing this, ensure a MAXIMUM target shows already the correct amount of disk space for partition 1, you created.  If the RT operating system can see a usable partition (FAT32 or dependency) it will set up only that partition by avoiding to touch the rest of the disc.  If the 1st partition is not used, the formatting process will claim rather all of the disk because no usable partition has been found, and you may lose your Windows installation.

After that, you can perform the installation of the RT of MAX software as usual.

If you try to preserve your existing installation, you can try to combine the above process with one of the options available for the creation and restoration of RT disk images, although I am not very familiar with these tools and can not comment or creating an image on a single disk partition and restaurant then a disc multi-partition will be successful.  Here is a good linkto start with which describes the options available.

  • Multiple operating systems. How to get the double boot or sort and what's on the disk images?

Hello. I currently have Windows XP Home Edition on my desktop. I have an update for Windows Vista Home Premium. Both are 32-bit. I read this linkhttp://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-Vista. I have a few questions, I would like to precise please.

Can I add the upgrade to Vista on a separate hard drive? Is there a partition?

Do I need to install any other program infront of XP or Vista so I can dualboot? I have to if I wanted to add Win7 Home Premium 64 - bit as a bunch of sorting?

I'm not pure install, I understand that. I'm done with my XP havn't programs, it takes more time than expected.

Is it possible to create disk images or backups with more than one operating system installed? If I have an upgrade, I don't think that I can remove the previous installed OS (XP Home Edition) and have a Vista disk image work. At least I have clean install and only Vista is? I have Norton Ghost 15 and I wondered if I would be able to drive or backup XP image or upgrading to Vista at all, or together.

Can an upgrade copy, I change the material at all, or add anything internally?

    XP SP3 on the desktop.

    Hello

Yes, you need XP on your drive hard first to use the dual boot with Vista, after the restoration of ghosting for 2 hard drives.

If you only want Vista on the PC, then you will need to use your Vista installation disk to repair and install files on the hard disk Vista.

As for the reactivation, you should be able to activate again within 3 days on the internet, you may need to phone MS if you can't.

    1) click Start and in the search for box type: slui.exe 4
    (2) press the ENTER"" key.
    (3) select your "country" in the list.
    (4) choose the option "activate phone".
    (5) stay on the phone and waiting for someone to help you with activation.

Your XP disk is more then likely an OEM version, which means that it is linked to the computer it was installed on.

So your Vista upgrade could also be tied to the PC you are upgrading to.

Please keep in mind that my answer is based on the information in your message. More the better I can answer, Slan go foill, Paul

  • Two operating systems; Windows 7 Professional with an option of Windows 10

Two operating systems;  Windows 7 Professional with an option of Windows 10.

As a Neolithic Windows, I'm comfortable with Win 7 like all my old XP applications have continued to work with Win 7.  Now I want to try to get around the current Win 10 operating system through experience to see what Win 10 offers me in every sense of the use practable. I don't want to lose the existing installation of Win7 which works well, I think to a new PC.

I need a route which can accommodate my learning needs.  I'm open to suggestions that might involve touchscreen options to win 10 OS while keeping the mouse driven navigation for Win 7 applications.  Clues on a postcard!

10 dual-boot Windows, you will need to buy retail (it's only free if you use it to replace Windows 7, not to start the long side).

So first, buy an installation Windows 10 CD/USB stick to your favorite tech store and install it as a dual-boot option.

You will find that there is no dichotomy of the 'touch' vs 'mouse' use Windows 10.  You can use the mouse as you do today in Windows 7: there is literally not a single instance of a hidden mouse-gesture-operated menu, you need to know the secret movement to activate (unlike Windows 8, Windows 10 has been designed so that a user of Windows 7 could jump in without any training).

  • Error "Missing Operating System".

Hi all. I'm trying to dual boot a 2013 end macbook pro with windows 10 and el capitan. I need to be able to run windows 10 to use some programs required by my University. I was actually able to configure my computer completely, so that it works on both partitions perfectly, but in a few days the windows partition seems to fail. This has happened three times now, and with each failure, I completely deleted the partition and started from scratch. The error I get seems to be completely random and occurs when I turned off my computer, turn it on and try to start the "Windows" partition It reads "_ Missing Operating System".

To install Windows 10 first, I used the boot camp assistant tool to make a partition of 100 GB out of my 500 GB drive. I went through the process of boot camp and created a bootable usb key from the iso image windows 10. I booted from the USB and windows installed and everything worked perfectly. I had to delete the partition generated by the wizard boot camp and create a new space on my disk unallocated hard usb Boot because it would not me to install windows on the partition as boot camp originally created. I installed all the drivers through bootcamp tool which displayed once windows 10 has been installed and all was good. I did all the updates of Windows 10 through the parameters, and then I did all the app store updates. I installed applications base approximately 4; This includes chrome, iTunes and uTorrent.

There seems to be no problem with my el capitan score whatsoever, and I was totally unable to find anything on the internet to help me with this problem. I chatted with support of microsoft and apple support. I was told that "it seems that the operating system on the Windows side is having a problem remaining installation and which is the origin of the problem" apple support. I was also told by microsoft that "maybe microsoft and apple cannot work together in a single machine :-) ».

Any help at this point would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Pavilion 5000 series: locked out of operating system

    Desktop HP wil not boot Windows. I get a message stating that the drive on which Windows is installed is locked. This problem occurred shortly after downloading the OS of Windows 10. I can't access the image at all, and the image of the software on the Microsoft Web site is no longer usable by the machines purchased in a retail store.     Hello;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post you need to restore your PC to its original state and wanted to help.

What will work restores your computer to its original factory state using HP recovery media. It is a set of DVD and a CD or a USB key, which will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP. In some cases, you will be able to order a USB instead of discs.  You must order at HP; they cannot be downloaded.

You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entty and click on order to press for more details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

NOTE: once you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to someone ' one - it can take a while!

Note that if HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.
