DV7-4173us: Re-install windows 7

I have a dual boot configuration on my laptop: Win 7 Home edition and Linux Mint.

The two works for 2 or more years now, BUT...

Question #1:

My Win 7 home edition is messed up.

She has no updates of software on hundreds of times.

So whenever I stop Win 7, it takes several minutes to try to update

Software OS, since he has accumulated so many updates failed over time.

Now, he's going to try to update 9 or more updates and said not to force off power on computer.

So if I move, say at the airport, sometimes I do have several minutes waiting for the operating system to

Update (which will be shooting star anyway.

Q1: How to avoid or ignore the update to stop for Win 7, home edition?

Question #2:

I also intend to reinstall Win 7, home edition.  It's OK to wipe out the Linux operating system on the other partion.

I forgot how to proceed (reinstall Win 7) because I don't him have not done in about 2 years, for some time.

I have a pack of 2 DVDs of system recovery.

Q2:, I guess this wll recovery wipe on my drive and reinstall a clean Win 7, correct?

It also eliminates the correct partition?

I came across this:

http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/desktop-operating-systems-software-recovery/the-cleanest-install-window...

T3: somewhere near the bottom of the top discussion forum, Cyclops talk about documentation for installation a clean UNBLOATED Win 7 recovery disk.  Where is the documentation?

Solution:

Use the recovery disk and reinstalling windows 7.

It will create 4 primary partitions: HP_TOOLS, RECOVERY, SYSTEM, C.

HP_TOOLS, RECOVERY belong to HP.

SYSTEM and C belong to WIn 7, so leave it alone...

So if you want to install Linux in dual boot (I recommend all Linux Mint),

Use 'Disk management' in Windows 7 to remove the RECOVERY partition.

RECOVERY partition will become not allocated sector of the disk.

Then restart to ensure that Win 7 is working.

So stop and install Linux on the unallocated partition.

Good luck.

I just ny laptop from HP repair center a week ago and I already had to perform a system reset.  I tried to reset my laptop and the message I got was, ' cannot reset no, because no disk partition detected ".  I called HP and they could not help, they told me that I have to reinstall Windows 8 and they post the discs to me.  HP blamed the problem of the partition on the fact that I had Windows 8 is installed and then I downloaded Windows 8.1 store Windows and it screwed in place the parition.  This answer has any sense at all to me.

As I mentioned earier, HP is mailing me new Windows 8 discs. However, the technical support representative HP told me that the discs do not come with a product key.  How can I perform a clean installation without Windows product key?

Yes at the time the upgrade of the OS is corrupt or delete the recovery partition, especially when it formats the disk.  It is always better to create recovery disks when you get the computer.

The key of Windows 8 is embedded in the BIOS and not need to know the key when you reinstall, the installation will recognize the key.  If you want to know what your key, download Belarc Advisor, and it will give you all kinds of information about your computer: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

It is best to upgrade to 8.1 Windows because it is more stable and with the new Windows 10 to come this year you will be eligible to get the free update if you are running 8.1

  • How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

    Hello!

    I got help.

How can I enable AHCI in dv7 6199us? And install windows on a SSD?

Intel based computers, like yours, are usually set to "RAID", which is a superset of "AHCI". Basically, if the BIOS won't let you choose between "IDE mode", "AHCI" and "RAID", leaving in the RAID led to you everything done "AHCI". In this case there is no need to activate the AHCI, as RAID will support an SSD anyway.

    Hello world

A week ago, I bought the HP Pavilion dv7-7052sw.

It came with Windows 7 64 bit Home Premium edition.

I wanted to customize for my personal needs, change partitions etc...

    So I formatted it.

I looked at the new installation of Windows 7 64 bit BOX.

Everything goes well until the final step, installation restarts and fails on "Finish Installation" screen because

system is unable to start services on my computer and I have to restart the instalation.

    I tried 3 times.

    I did not create a backup/restore disc.

What is the problem? It's my first HP laptop and I don't expect problems like that.

Installation disc that I use works fine on my old laptop.

Need help please, I don't know what to do now...

  • Install windows 7 in Envy DV7-7234 with Windows 8 with win7 dual boot and windows 8

I can install windows 7 in Envy DV7-7234 with Windows 8 buth with dual boot: win7 and windows 8?

Installing Windows 7 on your HP ENVY computer Notebook dv7-7234nr is not supported by HP. In addition, no Windows 7 driver is listed on HP Software and Driver Downloads page for your computer.

HP does not recommend installing Windows 7 and it will support the installation of Windows 7 on a computer comes with Windows 8. HP doesn't provide drivers for Windows 7 and the appropriate drivers are not available for the hardware in the computer. In addition, Windows 7 can not support some of the hardware or software designed for the computer.

Make sure you create your media recovery HP or USB Flash Recovery discs before you edit or change anything.

    You will need to DISABLE 'Secure Boot' and ENABLE 'Legacy Support' in the ' settings of BIOS ' settings below page;

Then, start Windows 8 and run the console 'disk management '. Using "Shrink Volume", reducing the size of the "C:" partition about half of its original size. Name of the partition "C:" to something like "Windows 8". Now, start the computer from the Windows 7 DVD, making sure to select "UEFI - internal CD/DVD" or "UEFI - ATAPI CD/DVD ' and not ' Legacy - CD/DVD internal."  (I recommend using a disc of Windows 7 SP1latest drivers have been included in this topic. The use of the SP1 disc usually resolves most disk hard AF and other issues. )

Install Windows 7 on the partition without label that was established earlier when you shrunk the partition "C:". Continue to install WIndows 7 by / responding to all the guests. Once you download Windows 7 on your computer, we have to track down the compatible drivers for it. Please list all the "hardware ID" for unknown or missing devices.

  • Install Windows 7 on HP DV7 7373ca Envy

    Hello

I would like to install windows 7 on the laptop. I tried, but it seems that it is blocked or not, given that windows 7 displays an error because of the configuration of the hardware. Can it be done? where can I get the recovery with windows discs 7 instead of windows 8?

    Hello:

I can't find any casual info.

In any event, nobody has detailed how they came to W7 to install, they ask just for W7 drivers.

See if this article of the millisecond is of no help to you.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/2466753

I had the problem when I first installed the W8 Release Preview and I wanted to get back to Windows 7 on my HP Elite 8200 desktop computer.

What I ended up doing is booting from a Windows XP installation disk, delete the partition, the quick format the partition and load Windows XP.

Then I loaded W7 without any problem at all.

For installing XP on your PC, however, you should know what SATA AHCI or RAID driver must be installed on the line F6 or "slipstreaming" pilots.

I don't know if the BIOS of your PC's speed controller set to RAID or AHCI.

In the device, under the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers section Manager, if the BIOS is set to AHCI, you will see an Intel 7 series family chipset AHCI controller installed.

If it is set to RAID, then you will see a lisitng of storage controllers in Device Manager and you will see a controller RAID SATA Intel that are listed there.

  • Can't boot from usb, lack of boot USB for dv7-4173us option?

I couldn't find an option to boot from USB on my

    HP Pavilion dv7-4173us laptop BIOS.

How to enable boot from the USB port?

    Thank you.

    Hey hpng,

I am pleased to hear that the option is now available. When you set up a dual boot with Linux, I have very little information on how to do it. The only thing I would say, is to read the document "frequently asked Questions (FAQ) on Linux". It has a lot of frequently asked questions, but the main reason is, to the bottom of the page you will see an option to where I can find more information about Linux.

Depending on what version of Linux you want to install, I suggest you post your question on the Linux community.

    I hope this helps!

  • How to install windows on the new drive?

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv7-3080, which came with Windows7. Now, I bought a 120 GB SSD. I tried to install Windows on the SSD by selecting Factory Reset. However, I get the message that the size of the hard drive has changed and that's why I can't use Factory Reset.

Is there a way how can I use the Windows7 that came with my laptop and install this on my new drive!

To my knowledge, I am not break everything right since Windows7 came with the laptop and was part of the price I paid for the laptop.

    Kind regards

    Sja785

    Hello:

Partitions or recovery discs do not work on a smaller hard drive.

You need to install a simplified version of windows 7 on your SSD. You will not break the laws or rules of license by using the product key on the bottom of the PC to activate the installation.

However, if you can not read all 25 characters of the product key you are flat out of luck and will have to buy a new operating system.

Here's how to make your own simple Windows 7 installation disc if you have not already.

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

  • HP Pavillion DV7 6154ea Questions on windows 8, driver etc.

Recently bought a laptop HP Pavilion DV7 6154ea.

paid allocate money for her that she was second hand it and without warranty.  After receiving it now looks that the choice was made, great laptop. Just having a few problems with the understanding of the functioning of windows 8.

the laptop on the back label indicates a key of windows 7, meaning that it was sold to the original owner with windows 7.

The laptop was sold to me with the installation of Windows 8 Pre.

The seller just re installed windows 8, wipe the hard drive before.

My problem is that I do not know if I have to download any dirvers for windows 8? asked the seller who has no idea about the drivers. I guess they were already installed by front cd.

Secondly, there is no drivers windows 8 available for this model? is that going to be a problem?

need to know your thoughts as soon as possible, as I might be able to return the item for a refund if I act fast enough!

try to put in place the laptop properly before putting it to use.

I also would like to access the BIOS under windows 8 to change the graphics card options that the laptop comes with the 2 graphics card. I read that if it's done auto instead of permenantly on less heat is produced. However, these instructions are for users of windows 7.

need help, advice on the use of this laptop. Really don't want to damage anything so scared to touch even if it starts perfectly. uncertain about the drivers, the correct graphics settings on windows 8, its my first time using windows 8.

    Thanks for your time

    You are the very welcome.

    Exit the BIOS settings only.

When you run Windows update utility under optional updates, you can see what presents itself.

If you see an Intel HD graphics driver update, right-click on it and select hide.

I doubt that you will ever see a graphics amd update driver, but if you do, you can do the same for that too.

The optional updates will never install unless you check them and add to the list of installation.

Concerning the drivers, you need only to install the drivers for all devices listed in the device with the little Manager! brands next to them (in the category other devices).

If the graphics drivers are not installed, you will see two adapters vga standard listed under the category of display cards or you will see them with! also marks next to them.

If you have an English version of W7 and can read all 25 characters of the product key of W7 on the bottom of your PC, you can make your own plain W7 installation media and use the product key to activate it if you don't want to buy a recovery disc for your model.

Here is the link to the W7 x 64 Home Premium SP1 ISO file.

    http://MSFT.digitalrivercontent.NET/win/X17-58997.ISO 2147483647 English Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 X 17 - 58997.iso

Make sure you get all the 3. XX GB of the file to download.  Sometimes he says full download, but you do not have the entire file to download.

Either use the ISO file, burn option in your burning software DVD to burn the ISO to a DVD file, then the ISO file, burn option will also make the bootable DVD.

Or you can use the Microsoft tool on the link below to transfer the ISO to a flash USB 4 GB or DVD drive.

This tool will also support bootable.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

You can install the W7 x 64 drivers and software support page and the driver of your laptop.
