DVD disc not visible / Ko 314060 necessary clarification

Background: following a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new hard drive, the DVD drive in my laptop (Dell XPS M1730) was not visible. I bought the laptop computer with an earlier version of windows, and everything worked normally until the original hard drive crashed. When the DVD was not recognized after the clean install, I assumed at first it was a hardware problem and bought and installed a new DVD player. This does not resolve the issue. The DVD player itself performs a power upward when the system is turned on. It opens and closes normally. It turns when a DVD is inserted and then slowed down after a minute or two. To troubleshoot I started working at Ko 314060 (your CD-ROM or DVD drive is not recognized by Windows or other programs). http://http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/314060

The first three resolutions has not remedied the problem.

Question: I am unable to follow the steps in resolution 4 as written. Step 3 says "In Device Manager, expand CD-ROM/DVD-ROM drives, right click on CD and DVD devices and then click Surdesinstaller." My Device Manager does not a selection of ' readers CD-ROM/DVD-ROM ", I'm looking for clarification on the procedure of resolution 4 update or reinstall the driver.

This is what my device manager:

Solved.

After leaving open the Device Manager and the laptop unattended for an extended period (over an hour), I returned to find a pop up advising me that the DVD device driver has been installed, and a selection of CD-ROM/DVD-ROM had been added in the Device Manager. The DVD is now visible.

It's a pretty common problem and there is a Microsoft Autofix to this:

You can run the automatic setting, but I had more chance to do manual registry change which is also described on the link.

I recently bought a laptop with Vista installed Equium. On my old pc (Windows XP Home edition), I supported a large number of pictures and files on a DVD disc with nero, when I try to load these on my laptop the drive is not recognized.

I have a lot of files on the other DVD, these are also not recognized, I would like to transfer these files on my laptop. Can anyone help this?

    Thanks in advance

    Hello

As you have probably not known, not all CD or DVD is compatible with each drive.
This means that sometimes the medium cannot be recognized and the Player cannot read or write on CD or DVD.

In my knowledge in the manual, you should find a list of compatible DVD and CD.

PS: I use the TDK CD and DVD TDK. I m very satisfied

  • PowerEdge R710 and perc h700, disc not visible in OS

    Hey,.

We have PowerEdge R710 with perc h700 raid 5 controller physical drives under raid6 running. We have recently added a sixth of the road which is much smaller (512 against 4 TBS) we want to just format and use it as a normal drive in the OS (Ubuntu 12.04.5).

However, the drive is not visible in the operating system. When you enter the settings of the RAID controller that it says that the drive is READY but not configured and all the options to the title of operations are grayed out. How can we make this hard drive is visible in the operating system?

    See you soon

The H700 does NOT support non RAID, so all records first must be configured on the controller, before its presentation to the BONE. You must configure (initialize) as a single drive RAID 0.

  • CD/DVD discs not recognized

Trying an answer, I found that I deleted my lower and upper filters. How can I get back them?

    Hello

    You don't want these filters.

Step 1: Please make all underneath the same if you've done it before as it's often the total of the process which
    solves the problem.

    Try this - Panel - Device Manager - CD/DVD - double-click on the device - driver tab - click
Update the drivers (this will probably do nothing) - then RIGHT click the drive - UNINSTALL - REBOOT
This will refresh the default driver stack. Even if the reader does not appear to continue below.

Then, work your way through these - don't forget the drive might be bad, could be a loose cable or
slight corrosion on the contacts (usually for a laptop) and other issues.

Another possibility is that the cables are loose. Remove ALL power, then make sure that the cables in both

Some DVD players do not use the Windows default drivers so check with the manufacturer of system and
manufacturer of device to see if there is a firmware or drivers for your drive if necessary.

    ===============================

Step 2: You have disc problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burning and)

Did you follow the Troubleshooting Guide for the reader who still does not work? There are some registry entries

  • Satellite Pro M40: Files on DVD/CD not visible

If data are burned to DVD or CD (+ R or + RW completed another manufacturer) then inserted in my Satellite Pro M40 PC he can see folder names but he cannot see all the files in the folder. When you click on the files, he says they are empty!

When the same disks are inserted on other devices (on DVD players connected to a TV), records show the files and files open without problem.

Sometimes the same disc when inserted in the pc, can be detected as drive is invalid

Audio and video disks are no problem and open immediately.

I am at a loss because even if I backed up all my data I can't re - insert the data if I lose it.

    Hello

There are different reasons why you CD/DVD drive doesn t manage burned CDs.
First all CD or DVD is compatible.
I had a lot of problems with my mediums sometimes burned the disc was able to read, sometimes, it was not possible.

I changed the burn at a lower speed, and which has slightly improved the situation. I also changed burning software.
Now I use the Nero burning Rom software. It s really good program.

But the main reason for these problems is the anomaly of lens laser discs. After a long period of work of the lens cannot calibrate properly and therefore can't handle the media inserted in this case only a replacement drive helps.

  • DVD drive not visible in Windows 7 after upgrade

I'm having a problem with my "model of dvd burner super multi: GSA-T40N.» Was known to work on laptop with Vista installed. After reinstalling Vista on the new hard drive and set to upgrade to Windows 7 Enterprise cd player does not work.

    That's what I know
The device is detected in the bios and I can boot from it
The device is not viewable in the computer once windows starts
I searched on several forums that link to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Hardware-and-Devices-troubleshooter
-This has not solved the problem.

Searched the registry and there no low filters, when I delete the upper filters, and then raise the same problem occurs. Restocking the upper filters but the there is no lower filter.

Have tried to update the driver but Windows tell me that I am using the best driver.

Has been showing in Device Manager with a yellow exclamation mark with error code 10 - the unit may not start. After removing the drive to find the manufacturer it now does not appear in Device Manager but have power to the player.

Help! It is a older laptop and have just replaced the hard drive, don't want really to replace the dvd drive.

    Thank you.

First, find and install the motherboard chipset and other system for your notebook device drivers. The installation of Windows and Windows Update disc are unlikely to have the best drivers for your laptop and can not have everything for all or part of your devices.

Check your laptop specifications and make sure that you install Windows 7 drivers.

The manufacturer of the laptop could have first Windows 7 drivers. There are probably later and better drivers available.

Laptop with Windows Vista cannot read data DVD discs that burned same machine.  The discs work on another computer.  My laptop will read CD disks, he did, and it will play DVD movies. What's wrong?

    Hello

You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD &)
Burn DVDs and CDs and read DVDs). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 parts to no function
while others are doing so correctly.

Burning at low speed, or by using the master could help. A CD/DVD cleaner
    could help.

Brand of the CD or DVD drive can also be the problem. Low quality (cheap brands) are always
    issue.

CD/DVDs have a tolerance + - and your can read/write on the outside edge
