Hello

What operating system is installed on your desktop PC and laptop? I found an interesting article on the EMS and XMS memory on the Microsoft page. Check http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;95555.

    Hello

    There is an interesting problem with my laptop, it cams with Xp Home edition with 1 partition, I used partition magic to create another and then format C:, after installation of XP Pro. Install drivers one by one, now when I try to write something in anywhere like msn, notepad or Word, she wrote just a character in 1 second;

Like when I write "trial" he write in 5 seconds... Why what happened and above all how can I work this?

    Hello

have you tried to uninstall the pilot how you installed? Maybe you should do this, I think it's probably just a software problem and no hardware failure.
So you can also try to set the rate of your keyboard type in Control Panel-> keyboard control-> (delay repeat, repeat rate) and maybe it s just there a setting that needs to be corrected.

  • Satellite M40X - big problems with Sims 3 - help with disk drives!

    Hello
I recently bought the sims 3 and unfortunately an error message appears saying "Disk authentication failure" I noticed after calling EA games and reading through many forums that there was a problem evident with laptops Toshiba and their ability to play the sims 3 (disk DLA).
I did like the forums all recommended, and I have disabled the DLA drive, uninstalled the sims and restarted the computer. Not only could I not play the sims or re - install, but my computer did not recognize even the hard drive, he kept saying 'bad volume' etc.
I got the sims on the computer and then re-enabled the DLA drive, causing my computer to close and show a major error on a blue screen.

I then turned the computer back on, and it does not recognize the disc sims 3 more... It recognizes the other placed disks in the cd-rom drive... But now when I put the sims 3 in the player and enter my computer to open it it tells me to insert a disc into the cd player...

    My questions are the following...

A.) how can I get my hard drive to recognize the disc sims being in the drive

    (B) once this problem is solved, how can I go about installing and using the sims 3 without disabling the DLA, which proved detrimental drive.

(C.) other problems with computers laptop toshiba have turned around an individual driver... Metisha or something? My driver's - VOB COMPUTERSYSTEME GMHB
Or something to that effect, which means that it has nothing to do with the DLA drive.

For the person who can help me, that would be so so appreciated...

  • Satellite M40x - where the memory?

    Hi all

I want to improve my memory of 512 MB to 1.5 GB. I bought 1 G RAM and when I plugged in the screen become white and computer laptop does not work. RAM is fine. I have contact the technical service of the seller, and according to them I need to remove the old 512 MB of RAM and plugged it my 1 GB of RAM for my laptop recognize the new RAM.

To do this, I opened my keboard and under what I can only find WLAN in the middle in the left there is another local network. and the far left, I see my DVD - ROM. On the right PC card and what is - this. I don't know where is the 512 MB RAM slot. It is there somewhere.

Is there any expert who can tell me where to find 512 MB RAM slot?

PS: I even call Toshiba support and they said sorry according to policy, we cannot tell you.
If expert laymen captions please help me to solve this problem.

    Please

I checked the manual of the Satellite M40x (it can be downloaded from the Toshiba site) and if you look at page 8-7 you can find a description of the memory upgrade.

In my opinion the 512 MB that you already is a built-in RAM that can t be upgraded because the bottom of the laptop is on only one memory slot.

However, I think that it is not a problem to use an additional RAM module, but maybe the new RAM is not compatible with your laptop.
What type of memory you have bought exactly? Maybe you should try it with another.

    I hope I could help a bit.

  • Satellite M40X-149: where a memory module?

    Hello

I have a satellite M40X-149. I believe that my laptop has a faulty memory - gel randomly, sometimes will not start sound cmos etc. However when I opened the plastic lid it seems to be an empty memory slot. Assume that the memory is either on board or possibly under the keyboard as in some other models of Toshiba.

Could someone tell me first where it is and also if it can be replaced. If it cannot be replaced, is it possible to disable it and use the empty accommodation?

The machine is out of warranty so take it apart is not a problem

    Thanks in advance
    KeV

    Hello

Yes, you are right. The laptop supports 2 locations in memory, but only one is scalable user.
This means that the other is hidden somewhere under the keyboard!
But if you remove the keyboard or any parts, you will lose the warranty.
Therefore the slot is called scalable user because the common user could insert the module without having to open Notepad.

The laptop can be upgraded up to 2048 MB. If one slot can candle 1024Mo!

  • Problem starting on Satellite M40X-250

For some time, I'm having a problem with an old laptop, the Toshiba Satellite M40X-250.

When I try to boot this laptop, the headlights turn on, I can hear the hard drive and fan from, also I can hear (if I have one there) station cd read cd/dvd.

But nothing else happens, the screen remains black and there is no way I can make it work.

I quite know something on the desktop, so I disassembled the laptop completely and just cleaned and after I reassembled it again, but that had no effect, I can not even boot up the laptop.

There is however another strange thing, it is very rare, but sometimes I get to start, but at some random point (very quickly, because I can't actually use the laptop) it is for me a BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) with an error code, I think it was 0x000000EA. In any case, this meant a driver problem with the graphics card. It gave me an error ATIDVAG.

But most of the time I'm still not able to start.

Now, it's a very old laptop and I have tried everything,.
I tried to start without battery (disconnected) and only the power, without result.
I tried to start only with the battery, no results.
I tried to unplug the power supply and the battery, then press the power button / stop for 60 seconds, no results.
I tried several rescue cd, a linux installation cd, windows installation cd, it resulted in nothing.
[EDIT] I have also connected to the laptop to an external monitor, but that did not work, no results.

I'm really lost now, I have tried everything I know, and I've never met a problem like this.
Maybe it's just the fact that material became old and it is better to give up, but I would really like to know if there is someone who can help me and maybe give me some ideas on what I can do.

I am very familiar with the inside of this laptop and I know what to do. I don't want to not call me an expert, maybe it is a little off, but I know my way around.
so, if anyone has a solution, let me know.

    Regards and thanks in advance.

In my opinion, it seems that the problem of graphics card.
Black screen means that the display is faulty or chip chart.

But if the internal screen would malfunction, then you should still be able to use the external monitor, but I guess that's not possible, therefore, I think that his GPU problem

  • Satellite M40X Screen Display problem

My Satellite M40X has a black vertical line which occupies 20% of the screen on the left side. The rest of the screen shows a full view. Change the display settings makes no difference, and there is no mention of this error in the manual. You don't know whether a problem with the LCD screen or a problem with the adapter and drivers. Wanted to check if someone has experienced something similar and can advise you.

    Hello

    Check using an external monitor.

If the same vertical line would be seen on the external monitor, an internal graphics card problem may be possible
In this case replace the defective

Since the GPU is a part of the mobo, you need to replace the motherboard that can be a costly affair

  • Problems with WLAN on Satellite M40X

It is possible to get wlan working on laptop Toshiba Satellite M40X?

I have Windows XP Home Edition installed and wlan worked fine, but after that I formatted and reinstalled Windows XP Professional, Windows could not find the wireless - ethernet adapter network adapter: (point yellow question mark?) I tried to install the drivers on the Toshiba site, but they do not seem to work properly. How can I solve the problem I don't know what wlan adapter is (Intel or something else). In otherwise, laptop works fine.

A friend of mine has Satellite M40x-185 and it has network without WIRE Intel 2200 b/g card. It's always wrong to post just the name of the template but not exact model M40x-xxx but I assume that you have Intel WLAN too.

Visit the portal of Toshiba WLAN Driver and use the latest version of the driver to install the wireless network on your laptop card.

  • Satellite M40X-230 memory upgrade

    Upgrade memory

I have a satellite M40X-230, most of the documents indicate that it is expandable up to 2 GB of RAM.
On the underside there a memory expansion slot which will have a 1 GB SODIMM, giving me a total of 1.5 G bytes of RAM.

Is it possible to add the other 500 MB. (I'm experimenting with Virtual Machines and data bases)

    In case anyone is interested!

There is a module in memory of 500MByte located on top of the motherboard. Unfortunately this is mounted internally in the case.
It is located below and slightly to the right of the center of the keyboard.
However, the casting of the cover of the laptop cover electronics and so it is not accessible by simply removing the keyboard. the top cover should be thrown which also consists of removing the screen.

Otherwise, the module is mounted in exactly the same type of socket than under the machine.

  • Problem starting on satellite M40X-189

I have a satellite M40X-189 2 years under XP. The problem I have is very slow to start, and I can hear a steady tone. Finally when he started in windows when I go to a prompt BACK or the run button I get a load of vvvvvvvvvvvv running across the screen.

It seems that there is a problem with the keyboard. Bad, I replaced the keyboard and the error is still present!

Please can someone shed some light on a fix for this problem?

    Hello

Maybe it s not the keyboard itself, but the keyboard controller?
    What do you think???

I put t this issue has something to do with the software installed, as happens in DOS mode, it looks like a motherboard failure, but you know, we can suggest only what could be the problem. For a diagnose exactly the test and verification of the laptop is necessary.

  • Satellite M40x-183 - memory upgrade

    Hello

I'm looking forward to upgrade the RAM in my Satellite M40x-183. The laptop came with 512 MB of RAM. Of the record, I learned that it can be expanded to 2 GB.

I don't know what type of RAM (DDR1/2) and how often rely on m40x-183. Please help me with the type of RAM and frequency supported by M40x-183.

According to the specifications of the product:

    HTTP://EU.COMPUTERS.TOSHIBA-EUROPE.COM/INNOVATION/JSP/SUPPORTSECTION/DISCONTINUEDPRODUCTPAGE.DO?SERVICE=EU&PRODUCT_ID=1 05812 & DISC_MODEL = 1

    standard: 512 MB

  • Satellite M40X-189 - replace HARD disk - what size should I go to?

Hi, I have a SATELLITE M40X-189, I would like to replace the hard drive and would like if possible some recommendations!
I know I need an ide/pata and I currently have a hard disk of 40 GB hitachi 5400 rpm installed. The memory is just what came installed originally, (512 MB, no upgrade).

So what size I can up to?
I have a lot of music/photos and video to change so must also size decent 80 GB would be enough?
I really don't use it for anything other than that, and also the navigation on the internet. Although I often have a few programs running at the same time which causes problems... freeze, (in particular I tunes) and generally slow running.

I'm confident on the physical replacement, and I know how to clone my old drive hard etc, but just need some info about the size and speed and if possible
a recommendation of the manufacturer. Just worried about incompatibility really issues.

Also, if you think I should install more memory, which size and make and model may recommend.

    Thank you in advance!

    Denise.

    Hi mate

First he must know that this question have been posted a lot of time in the forum.
If you want to use the search option, then you will find this thread for example:
    http://forums.computers.Toshiba-Europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?MessageID=68287

Is the M40X series supports the IDE controller and I think that you need a 2.5 IDE HDD.
The old ide controllers are limited to 128 GB with 28-bit LBA
However, you can take an 80 GB or 120 GB HARD drive and it should work fine

    Hello

This error message can occur if a hardware component malfunctions, or if it has installed the damaged or incompatible drivers.
To resolve this issue remove additional memory modules that are installed on the computer, leaving only the minimum required for the computer to start and run Windows. Restart the computer to see if the error messages persist.

This issue has been described on the Microsoft Web site.

  • Satellite M40X-189: I want to upgrade the processor?

    Hello

I have the satellite m40x-189 notebook with Intel Pentium M 730 processor(1.6/2M/533). "I want to improve my CPU with Intel Pentium M780 processor(2.26/2M/533). Is this possible?

Generally speaking, the situation of CPU upgrade is a little different on laptops. It's not as easy as on the desktop PC.
The production of temperature and overheating are serious problems.

But the series of different laptops is shipped with different processors. AFAIK the M40X supports processors:
    Intel Pentium-M Dothan, 1.6GMHz, 1.73GMHz, 1.86 MHz, 2.0GMHz, 2.13GMHz
    and 2.26 MHz.
    Intel Celeron-M Dothan, 1.3GMHz, 1.4GMHz, 1.5 MHz, 1.6GMHz

The device also supports processors Intel 915 PM/915GM/910GML chipset for system memory controller.

But you know, nobody's going to give you the guarantee that the laptop will run stable and without any strange behavior.
