When I Explore, drive Local directory tree c expands and I have to minimize it again or to scroll all the way until you access the drive E: or H:. Is it possible to stop the directory automatically expand? If so, can I select another drive and have his repertoire expanded instead. That is to say; E: or H: where most of my files is stored. Hello

I'm not able to reduce my local C drive. It has a 300 GB free space, yet I am not able to reduce. I tried chkdsk/r , I defragmented my disc, I used the disk cleanup option in administrative tools in the control panel but I am not able to reduce it please help. I get only 351MB shrink option.

    Hello

The note on the retractable screen can describe the problem... you can have 284 GB of free space, but there is a real estate file causes a problem...

351MB is on one side of the file, and the rest of the 284 GB is on the other hand, for example...

A normal Windows defrag will not move a file system.

The program shown ZigZag may be able to overcome this problem if it is run from a bootable CD or Flash...

Also note that if you use a 3rd party program to defragment, your quick start will most likely stop working... Especially if you INSTALL the program...

  • LOCAL USE OF HARD DRIVE D: AS AN EXTENSION OF THE LOCAL C: DRIVE

The office is a Dell Optiplex GX260 with Windows XP Professional Version 2002, Service Pack 3. The local disk C: drive only has 1 GB of available space remaining and the local disk D: drive is not formatted and has never been used. Two local disk drives show in my computer. The local disk C: drive has a NIFS file system while the unformatted local disk D: drive has a RAW file system.

I would like to know if it is possible to format the D: drive and use it as an extension of the local disk C: drive, that is to say with the same function as an external hard drive. I assumed that it has the same capacity as the local disk C: drive, which is 20 GB. The object is to copy and delete a sufficient number of emissions from local drive C: to D: local hard drive so that I'll have 8 to 10 GB of space available in local disk C:

Details of any change in firmware and driver coding, etc. it will take, if any, would be appreciated.

It is possible to just open the program files in local disk drive C: and copy paste every program chosen for local disk D: in my computer drive, folder then delete the copy Aquamatic program files in the local disk C: drive which is free disk space in the local disk drive C and would not affect those programs in the control panel?  If it's more complicated than that, comments would be appreciated.

This is based on the assumption that the computer will recognize programs in local disk drive d and use them as necessary, as if they were in the local disk C: drive

    Thank you

    Hi Notfinished,

What you try to do, is use your second hard drive for some of your files and possibly applications. I suggest that you format the drive D: to NTFS. Easy to move to the D: drive would be My Documents, as described HERE. The same would apply to my music, my pictures, etc. Applications can be moved easily. You will need to reinstall the application and during the installation process, select the D: drive as destination. For many applications, this involves the use of the option "Custom Installation".

Let me know if you have any other questions.

  • Change the Local C drive letters

    * Original title: assignment of drive letters

When I installed Windows 7 (home edition) earlier, I tried to assign the letter D for the reader, but the installation process would not allow this and kept failing the letter C. can I change this to D now?

The reason why I need to do this is that I have a program more former that works only under DOS and it will not run on any other drive except C.

I have a 'plug-in' (auxiliary) drive that is already formatted for FAT32 and I want to give this the letter C so that I can run my BACK from that program.

This sounds like a practical solution that can be made without too much trouble?

    Hello

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

From your problem description, I understand that you want to change the drive letter to D of C, so that you can run a program under the C drive with DOS operating system.

Unfortunately this action is not allowed because the current operating system, to which you have started is located on the Local C drive.

If you want to know the method of assignment or change the drive letter, I suggest you open disk management and assign the drive letter and check.

    a. open computer management by clicking the Start button, click on the Control Panel, clicking system and security, clicking Administrative Tools, and then double-click computer management. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (b) in the left pane, click Disk Management.

    c. If the hard drive is recognized in disk management and if there is no drive letter assigned, I suggest you do a right click on the drive and assign a drive letter and check if it helps.

    d. click on the player to change and then click on change drive letter and paths.

    Do one of the following:

    · To assign a drive letter if it has not already received, click Add, click the letter you want to use, and then click OK.

    · To change a drive letter, click on edit, click on assign the following drive letter, click the letter you want to use and then click OK.

    · To remove a drive letter, click on remove and then click Yes to confirm that you want to remove.

  • How will I know ESXi installed on the local hard drive or usb or SAN?

    Hi all

Here, I have IBM Storage node flex and midsize, this storewize is divided in two. I want to know where my esxi os installed? all orders to find?

    Hello

So you can run esxcfg-info-e and you will get your startup BACK type, it will be either visor-thin (means ESXi installable, means in general you are installed on the local disk or SAN), visor-usb (ESXi embedded, usually means you are installed on USB or SD or visor-pxe to PXE deployment.)

If you want to go further, you can run ls-lisa/dev/discs and you should be able to identify your device initialization as one with a load of partitions, as the vm1.0000xxxx entries in the result below:

To further clarify, go back to your ls-lisa/dev/discs out and now you know that you have the right device, enter the path to your drive ID, in this case, mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0, then run esxcli nmp storage devices list | grep mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0

and you will get your device nickname, so:

~ # esxcli list of nmp storage device | grep mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0

    MPX.vmhba32:C0:t0:l0

Device display name: USB Direct - access Local (mpx.vmhba32:C0:T0:L0)

Hope this helps, this should be good for ESXi 5.x and above all, I believe, something you might need to sub partedUtil for fdisk.

    Good luck!

I had to reinstall XP. Before reinstallation, D drive was the drive started on my computer and I have not had any problems with space. Obviously I screwed up letting it keep the partitioned drive or what I had to do at some point, because after reinstalling XP C drive the drive that begins (C has no space and D wants everything as before). Now, I don't have enough space to download programs, I need to work from. In fact, I don't have enough room to do anything! C drive only has 7. something GB on it compared with with 30 0r 32 GB!

How can I get the D drive and do what is now drive C? Alternatively, I can change somehow D drive where all downloads to go and work from there anyway? I don't know how to change where a download will. Can someone please help me out here because I'm way behind with work; cannot afford professional maintenance COMP.; and have no idea what to do.

    Hello

You may need to back up important data on the computer and and then format the D; drive to remove all the installation files and creates the disk space.

Also I suggest you perform a disk cleanup on the computer. To get the procedure you can refer: Description of the tool in Windows XP Disk Cleanup: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310312
