Envy 15-j108el: update Wi - Fi adapter

Hello

I would like to know if I can update/change my wireless HP Envy 15-j108el adapter because I have too many problems with this, the connection is very slow and only standing next to the router I can surf the internet in a decent way.

The adapter is the Ralink RT 3290, I searched the internet and I found some bad reviews about it. Can someone suggest me a better adapter for my laptop?

Thank you well in advance,

M.

Hello:

First, verify that your current wireless card has 2 antennas connected to it.

See the below maintenance manual to see how to access the compartment of the wireless card.

http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04091768

If the card has 2 antennas connected to it, I recommend that you install either the:

Intel Dual Band Wireless-N 7260AN WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n 2 x 2 + HP BT4.0 part # 717381-001

or: (if you have or plan to get an AC wireless router)...

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2 x 2 WiFi + BT 4.0 HP Part # 710661-001

    Hello

You should not have to replace your WIFI adapter.  It should be compatible with your new router as multiple bands should be available.

I suggest that you configure communications WIRELESS "n" and see if you are having a better flow. Don't forget that the wireless signal a very weak signals will not produce the best performance.  Your ISP service may need to be increased depending on the speed you want.

If you are not satisfied with performance "n", then you can consider this Intel WIFI card.  The sides of the user looks fine.

Thanks for posting on the forum.

  • Envy 15-k220nr: updated Intel 3160 AC card card Intel 7260 AC?

    Hi-

I'm in the same boat as some other people and try to get the clearer a possible answer, before I move forward - I have a HP Envy 15 k220nr supplied with the intel 3160 1 x 1 AC card.  I want to spend at least an AC 2 x 2 card, if this isn't a 3 x 3, to get the best possible rates of my AC1900 router.  The safest bet on the outside using a USB 3.0 adapter external (which would be cumbersome and problematic) seems to be the Intel 7260 AC 2 x 2 card.

Does anyone do this?  He settled without much trouble?  It worked once installed?  Have you seen a significant difference in speed?  No problem with the new card?  Tips for the installation?  Have been able to confirm the K220NR you had two sons of internal antenna to support a card 2 x 2 (or, and I doubt that I have this chance, it has 3 antennas)?  Please let us know - I want to upgrade, but to be sure it will work above all order and completely disassemble the laptop again (I already did once to install a 500 GB Samsung 850 EVO SSD and there wasn't a ton of fun).

Also, to you or anyone else to pay attention, because I'm going to open the laptop anyway, is there a reason I shouldn't update the RAM at the same time?   It seems that the laptop supports the DDR3L 1600 ram; I think the upgrade from 8 GB to 16 GB - any anticipated problems with this, everything will work the RAM or is there a white list, is there a reason I should avoid it (above the RAM being the most difficult thing to access during dismantlement of this model)?

Any help, assistance, information on how it worked for you, things to watch, etc. would be much appreciated.  I look forward to answers to the questions, that I have not like or thoughts in general about this.  Thank you!

    HP Envy 15-k220NR

    Intel i7 4720MQ

    8 GB RAM

500 GB Samsung SSD 850 Evo

I can now confirm that the adapter Intel Wireless AC7260 sector works PERFECTLY in a HP Envy 15t, specifically an HP Envy 15-k220nr (4720MQ plant, 8 GB of Ram, Intel i7 installed Intel Wireless 3160 adapter).  It works with Windows Pro 10 x 64 great - I can't speak for Windows 7/8/8.1 that I updated before installing (which I recommend), but I expect that it works on Windows 8/8.1 for sure and probably on Windows 7 without problem.

I bought the card on Amazon; the model is "Intel network 7260.HMWG. R' - the. R is important because it is a revised version of the chip with improvements on the original.  It is, by the Intel reports, the same card SKU 7260.HMWWB. R - different SKUS simply represent different packages.  Check it out at: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MV3N7UO

At the time I did, the cost of the card was $26.50.  It is a Mini PCIe card, which is the type of the computer used.

It's a surprisingly simple upgrade.  I have simply shut down my computer, which has been already upgraded to Windows Pro 10.  As with all facilities, follow control measures for static (white room, wrist band), that screws follow-up go where (easier in this case because they are mostly identifcal when disassembly of the machine) and general practices for the maintenance of a system.  I would not recommend this upgrade is done by an amateur - it's a more complex installation, since you need to access the motherboard and remove the housing rather than simply to open a port on the underside of the computer.  That said, for having to open the base unit, it is a process very easy (relatively speaking) with this laptop.  It is useful that the repair is very complete.  Be careful, because if you are not an authorized service provider and your computer is under warranty, you may void your warranty by opening the machine.  In addition, don't forget to keep the old card to allow you to reinstall and restore your computer to care factor if you need to send in warranty repair or want to sell it but keep the new card.

It took my about 20 minutes to take it apart, install, test and go back.  Before you BEGIN, download the new drivers, you'll need - HP drivers are working, great and I always go with the current manufacturer on the OEM drivers drivers when possible because they are often optimized for the system.  You can also download download.intel.com drivers, but I would recommend get the driver WLAN wireless network current HP download page (http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/HP-ENVY-15-Notebook-PC-series/7527530/model/7685078#Z7_3054ICK0KGTE30AQO5O3KA30R1).  This card, looking for the same drivers regarding the AC-3160 card because they use the same drivers.  Download the TWO the WLAN and Bluetooth drivers - to date, the drivers have been updated on 15/10/15 and are:

    • Bluetooth of Intel driver, version 18.1.1525.1470 [email protected]
    • Intel Wireless Driver, version 18.12.0.3 Rev.P

After downloading the drivers, put them on your desktop or somewhere else easy access that you will need them as soon as you restart the installation and the wireless NOT work initially, following so if you do not have the drivers you have given to get them through a wired connection or another computer.

I disassembled the machine by the Service Manual (http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c04510889).  Remove the battery and basic housing, disconnect the cables in water for the fingerprint sensor, the mouse and the keyboard and back on top of the basic coverage and put it against the monitor.  BE CAREFUL - this shifts the center of gravity of the computer and makes the computer to tip backward as I learned when I got mine from flipping back off of the table, I was working on - just be careful.

After opening to the top of the enclosure, installation is incredibly simple.  The WLAN card is located at the back of the computer to the Middle - back where the hinges of the screen connect computer, centered between them.  You just pop off the two wireless antennas (YES - this laptop, despite the expedition with AC only 1 x 1 wireless card options, IT has two antennas installed at the factory, so it can support fully a card 2 x 2), then remove the screw from the card in place.  The map is displayed; bring him back (help little fingers - I have big hands and it was difficult because card is pressed against the back of the case) and pop out.  Insert the new card, tap it down, screw and reattach the antennas, making sure that the wire connected to the 'hand' on the original card is connected to the 'hand' on the new map, and the wire of "to THE" relates to "to THE.  On my computer, the black wire is the main antenna, the gray wire was the second antenna.

If you're like me, after installation, you can set reconnect the keyboard/mouse/finger print sensor and reboot the machine before screwing everything together to make sure it works.   Just be careful if you do this.  When you restart, wireless will not work.  Run the installation programs for the drivers that you downloaded at the beginning of the year - I found install the dirver wireless, then bluetooth driver works better.  After installation and reboot, everything should work fine, including bluetooth.  I have had absolutely no problem with everything to work.

Now the fun part: performance.  The map is hands down more quickly then the motherboard.  2 x 2 MIMO broadcast practically double your performance to download (assuming you have at least to AC1200 router that supports speeds of that card is).  I use an ASUS AC1900 RT-AC68U, a great router is worth every penny.  Speedtest.NET, my laptop on the wireless now easily continues with my internet service 60MBPS, going as fast as my wired connection (with the old card, he maxed out at around download 50MBPS; with the new card, it uses bandwidth full, closer to 70MBPS for us.)  Download speeds were around 4, 5-5 Mbps, to be expected in view of our internet service.

File transfers are literally about twice as fast as prerequisites for the upgrade.  I supported sustained more than 8 Mbps download speeds when there are about 40 feet from the router with 3 walls and other elements of the way.  File transfer speeds are great, more 40MBPS transferring files to my NAS, compared to close to 20 with the original map (also from 40 feet with 3 walls and other obstacles).

Overall, the performance is much better that the original card, as expected, the installation is simple and quick, and everything works perfectly.  I highly recommend this upgrade.

  • Envy 15-j104el: updated NETWORK WiFi card and RAM update

    Goodmorning to everyone

I write this post to ask for information on the possibility to do an upgrade of hardware on my HP Envy 15-j104elsystem.

    That's what I would do:

-Replace the network card (NIC) to a wireless better and possibly with a compatible AC NIC.

-Update to 16 GB of ram, put benches with CL9 SODIMM

The questions that I want to bring to your attention are:

-There is a 'white list' for the wifi card on my BIOS (actually F66)?
(consultation with the service manual there are little NIC OEM selled, y at - it ONLY compatible?)

-Put the sticks of ram CL9 (instead of CL11 currently OEM mounted), I can inprove the overall performance?

    I want to install are:

    -Intel Wireless-AC 7260 more Bluethoot HMC 4.0

    -Kingston HyperX Impact DDR3L 16 GB (2x8gb) SODIMM 1600 Mhz CL9 (Kit)

According to your experiences, is it compatible? I can buy them without any problem?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me. Thanks for your suggestions

In particular, I take this opportunity to greet and also need the help of my friend @visruth ;)

    1. no whitelist. Your laptop was conducted after HP stopped using a white list so that you can install any card with the right form factor and the number of antennas. The Intel 7260 card should work.

    2. you can install the CL9 memory but it will not do anything all run faster. The motherboard is made to operate at the speed of the OEM memory so the Kingston Hyper-X will work, but the specifications of it in operation will be the same as memory OEM.

  • Update BIOS: "AC ADAPTER IS PLUGGED OUT".. properly detected .not in fact

    Hello

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 6100 works pretty well, but it does not correctly detect the battery.

For example, I just tried to upgrade the BIOS, and I received an error message 'AC ADAPTER IS BRANCH OUT' with BATTERY in or TAKEN OUT.

I can't start the computer on battery alone, but she won't stay ON if I disconnect the AC power. Once disconnected, the front LED will turn OFF but the battery led IS NOT and the computer stays on without AC. Notwithstanding, there is no indication on the screen LED or battery, it works on battery alone for an unknown duration (not tested, but more than 15 minutes). I use only battery power, not just AC.

I worked fine a few days ago. I thought that the problem was related to the drivers and the recently reinstalled OS (Windows XP Pro French, with the French drivers), but it's not.

I am now suspecting a bad battery or the power Board. I just ordered a new battery.

Clues to other possible explanations and remedies?

    Best regards

    Martin

I can't edit as is the case, then I will clarify with another message

BIOS update tells me my AC is not connected, but it is (nine adapter). Even if I remove the battery, it tells me that's not on AC, but leads AC goes ON / OFF as expected.

My laptop can't detect the presence of batteries, led front or the power management console.
Battery holds charge very well and keep your computer running so disconnected, but it cannot start laptop batteries only.

It is the mysery, waiting to be resolved.

  • HP Envy 14-J009tx: updating the Nvidia driver is blocked?

So, I bought this laptop last month, and I tried updating the Nvidia graphics driver for the last of the 347.52 version supplied with it. I opened the GeForce experience app to update, it tells me that it is impossible to connect to Nvidia. Not still even though I changed my home network to the endearing phone, it won't let me update, saying that it cannot connect to Nvidia and I should try again later. I also checked the firewall and AVG (I changed the antivirus immediately after purchase) and allows the application to access the internet.

So my question is: is it done deliberately by HP or there may be something wrong with the whole of my ISP? And besides, I am interested in upgrading to Windows 10, will there be any problem with all the app that requires Nvidia? I really need the graphics I want to do a lot of CAD in the future.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello MalvinVVV ;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post on Nvidia driver update and I wanted to help.

It's generally a BAD idea to update the video drivers laptop NVIDIA (or AMD) because the OEM manufacturers often use specialized versions of video chipsets for which these pilots are not suitable.  The best approach is to update only from the OEM drivers.

This link is to HP for your PC product page: http://support.hp.com/sg-en/product/HP-ENVY-14-Notebook-PC-series/7771343/model/8524508/drivers

If you press the check now button, he will see if there is new video HP drivers for your PC, download and install them.  If there is no newer drivers, I would leave it alone.

In addition, I checked the same page to see if there are drivers HP Win10 and there are.  So, if you decide to upgrade to Win10, you will be able to get drivers HP.

    Good luck
