Error adding host vmware vCenter

Hello

I have the free version of VMware ESXi 5.1 installed. When I tried to add my host to vcenter 5.1 with the trial version I get the error message below. I can't use esxi 5.1 edition for free with the trial version of vcenter 5.1 is?

"The host is licensed with VMware vSphere hypervisor 5. The edition of vCenter License Server does not support VMware vSphere hypervisor 5".

Hi sbala,

The free version of the hypervisor cannot be managed by vCenter.

You must allow the hosts with at least ESXi Standard - the free version of the hypervisor can be managed with vCenter.

Thank you

Pramod

  • Update Manager - error connecting to VMware vCenter Update Manager - database temporarily unavailable or has network problems.

I uninstalled and reinstalled, I triple checked that I can connect on the VCenter server using the account Update Manager DB owner on the Update Manager database. I can connect to SQL using the native client ODBC SQL 2008 under the same account. But we get the same error of several machines when we install and run the plugin VCenter.

    Any ideas?

If you use Windows authentication to connect to the database, you have to change the user who initially on the virtual center of the Update Manager service. You must put the name of user and password of the user that can connect to the database (by default Update Manager beginning with the Local System account. During the installation if the vCenter Server is on Windows 2008 I think you must also use the FQDN of the server vCenter (or ip address) to be sure it get the right address (something to do with IPv6 on Windows 2008). At least it worked for me.

Thanks for the tip. I was able to start the service by stopping the Foglight Quest agent running on the box first, then by restarting VCO. • VMware vCenter service stops with size of DB SQL errors

    Hello

We run VMware vCenter 4.1 with 3 ESX hosts and VMs. 50 vCenter runs on Windows 2008 R2, SQL 2005 Express SP2.

Yesterday, our virtual backup failed, saying: it could not connect to the vCenter agent. When I have looged question, it appeared that he had stopped the vCenter Server service. Upward on the continuation of the investigation, it appears that the SQL Express database had reached 4 GB in size, which is limited, and this caused the vCenter fall service.

I checked some of the forum posts and have accomplished the following:

    • Define a retention policy of database for tasks and events, it is initially unchecked, but I checked and set it to 90 days in the beginning and now 30 days.
    • Found a script on the VMware forum called VCDB_table_cleanup_MSSQL_V4.X.sql that can clean the database. I put it to delete the old data (change of SET @DELETE_DATA = 1) 90 days and he kidnapped 130 000 + lines.
    • Performed a narrowing of the database & file shrink on the data file - I was only 9 MB back?
    • Performed a narrowing of the database & file shrink on the log file - it right back a little more, about 100 MB.
    • Changed the size of the log file of 460 MB to 1024 MB, in database properties > settings files.

However, even after all of the above, when I reboot the server, or stop and start the service vCenter, the following errors are recorded in the application log:

For any help or suggestions appreciated!

    Ben

Due to the size of the database, the query may take time. I suggest that you let run and just be patient.

Another option is to upgrade to a version of SQL Server 2005/2008 'complete' (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/7960893), or - where this is an option for you - to migrate towards the currently experimentally supported (starting with vCenter Server 4.1 Update 1) version SQL Express 2008 which supports up to 10 GB per database. (see http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_compatibility_matrix.pdf) Although there are 32 and 64 bit in compatibility matrix, it seems that there are currently problems with 64-bit (see http://kb.vmware.com/kb/1036085)

  • Determine which user added an ESX host to vCenter

I'm trying to figure out if there is anyway to determine which user has added a vCenter ESX host using the api.  I don't see this information as any sort of property of the host object.  Any help would be appreciated!

    Paul

You can retrieve this and other events by using the event manager and the queryEvents() - http://pubs.vmware.com/vsphere-50/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.vmware.wssdk.apiref.doc_50%2Fvim.event.EventManager.html

There is no property associated with a host ESX (i) on which the user added to vCenter and since it seems that you are interested in a specific host ESX (i), which can help narrow down the query.

Attached, that is, remove / add a vSphere SDK for Perl script that will return the user who added the host to vCenter, you should get a response because it uses the Ref object managed the host ESX (i) and that changes each time you have.

Here is an example of course:

    ./findUserAddHost.pl--serveur root vcenter50-4 - vihost - vesxi50 - 3.primp username - industries.com
    Enter the password:
    added root host vesxi50 - 3.primp - industries.com to datacenter datacenter2

Usually this error appears when the ESXi host, you're trying to add has a newer version than vCenter.  Depending on your case, both have same version. In fact, it should work fine without any problem.

Can you please confirm the ESXi and vCenter versions? Also can you please post numbers comes together?
