Code 800F0816 when installing Service pack 1 in Windows Vista
I had an 0146 error code, I replaced the hard drive and installed Vista from a DVD of resettlement. So far, all of the updates has loaded fine. When it comes time to download and install service pack 1, it ok until the end it says that is is unable to load the update and I get and error message stating the Code 800F0816. What should I try to get this pack to load?
I went on the link. What happens is the Welcome to Windows screen. A little lower I can 'get it now' [Microsoft] Security Essentials...
Microsoft Security Essentials is available only when the WGA scan does not detect the presence of a valid, fully functional antivirus application. Yet another symptom of an existing infection (ongoing).
Your 'copy' of the VAS is installed illegally & will NOT work correctly.
Do a clean install. After completing the clean install this time (in order):
1. uninstall the Trend Micro application (which will also be reinstalled, but now invalid) & restart.
2 download/install Microsoft Security Essentials (free), instead of customer Service: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/default.aspx
3. launch repeated manual checks for Windows Updates & install updates they are offered (follow all prompts) until you finally got SP2 & all post-SP2 installed updates.
Do NOTHING else online (e.g., navigation electronic control cat; download/installation of other stuff) until you have completed step 3 above.
Also do NOT connect the computer to local networks (i.e. other computers) or restore all backed up data.
If you need additional assistance with the clean install, please start a new thread in this forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_vista-system
Notes:
=> You will not be able go to Win7 unless & until Vista SP1 is installed.
-Online a manufacturer OEM version of Windows is permanently tied to the computer on which it is preinstalled. You may not use the OEM Win7 disc to upgrade Vista to Win7 computer or do a clean install of Win7.
Good luck! More & outta here...

AFTER YOU INSTALL SERVICE PACK 1 FOR WINDOWS VISTA, MY COMPUTER WILL NOT START SAYS UNATTENDED, DLL
Follow these steps to try to solve your problems of boot.
Restore point:
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/
Do Safe Mode system restore, if it is impossible to do in Normal Mode.
Try typing F8 at startup and in the list of Boot selections, select Mode safe using ARROW top to go there > and then press ENTER.
Try a restore of the system once, to choose a Restore Point prior to your problem...
Click Start > programs > Accessories > system tools > system restore > choose another time > next > etc.
http://www.windowsvistauserguide.com/system_restore.htm
Read the above for a very good graph shows how backward more than 5 days in the System Restore Points by checking the correct box.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:
Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.
Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.
At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.
When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html
Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.
NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.
Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:
http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/
ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html
It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.
You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.
It is NOT a disc of resettlement.
And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.
See you soon.
After you install service pack 2 for windows vista
After installing service pack 2 for windows vista on my HP laptop, I started having a few problems. First off the computer would not go beyond the Welcome screen because he showed that an update was the installation (step 1 of 3:0 % etc.) and the computer reboots before finish. It kept the case whenever I started upward, even on safe mode. I tried to restore, but it would never be completed and nothing else would work. Now I can't go beyond the microsoft loading screen because it shows a black flat screen with no cursor. I can't enter safe mode. Help, please. Safe mode only shows the start screen but won't start so I can't access the control panel and tried to boot to the last known successful startup but it failed.
Hello
Try a startup repair and / or a system restore using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft
Manufacturers recovery disks normally do not have Service Options; they are normally a relocation to the factory only settings option.
Here is the guide to repair Options using a Vista DVD from Microsoft.
If a friend or a work acquantance of yours has one, you can borrow and use it for repairs.
If you do not or can not borrow a Microsoft DVD there is a download of a file ISO of Vista Startup Repair available that you can put on a Bootable floppy to make the above startup repair and that the method is recommended by a large number of posters in these Forums.
Unfortunately, you have to buy it.
Hello
Click Start > right click on computer > left click on properties > see if you have Vista 32 bit or Vista 64-bit installed.
It will also tell you here what Service Packs, if any, are already installed.
Then, choose the download of 'bit' OK to use to install Service Packs, first of all the installation of SP1.
Vista SP1 32-bit (x 86): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30
Vista SP1 64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21299
Vista SP2 64-bit: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=17669
Hello
I tried to download and install Service Pack 2 using Windows Vista Home Edition, or anything like that on the internet without success. According to me, the key word is internet or a block of Vista from the internet to install anything. Many people here get the same error 80070005 for SP2 as I am, but I think that the problem is with Vista, how the system allows any installs or blocks installed from the internet. I suppose that some are able to go through the download process, but installation is where it does not pass through. There are moments where it seems that the installation of SP2 works, but it will fail eventually. Other times what ever happens to the installation process. The same goes for all other downloads and installs from the internet. I am able to install a program that already exists on the computer, so I know that installs works just not the Internet. Do not send me a link to install because it probably won't last through. I may be able to download but installation will not pass by so that the program will not work. I used the words installation and internet a lot for some reason please take account, when responding.
Thank you
