Error on installing XP as a guest operating system

I'll put up my first virtual machine and can't.  I installed Workstation 6.5.1 on windows XP Pro SP3.  Then, I created my first VM and tried to install XP Pro SP3.  When the Assistant asked the guest OS CD, I put my original CD in the CD drive, and then, when he tried to install from that drive, I got this error: CDBOOT: cannot boot from CD - Code: 4.

So I then created an ISO CD image and placed it on the HD and then host computers instead of pointing the wizard on the CD player, I pointed to the ISO file.  But I got the same exact error message.  If something is wrong with my computer or my approach to this virtual machine.

Of course, I would appreciate the help.

Host computer is Dell Optiplex with 3 GB of RAM and IDE drive 500 GB HD and IDE DVD-R.

Thank you!

I was hoping to avoid the problem of CD Boot by transforming the CD ISO and pointing the wizard in the ISO file.  But that doesn't seem to work.  How can I skip the question bootable CD?

An ISO standard is simply a picture of a CD (or DVD)... so if the drive is not bootable, the image will not be!

Find a bootable installation disk, or use the floppy boot (or diskettes).

  • Surface Pro 3 - errors when you try to start a guest operating system 64-bit

I get the following errors setting up an Ubuntu guest operating system.

This virtual machine is configured for 64-bit operating systems. However, the 64-bit mode is not possible.

This host supports Intel VT - x, but Intel VT - x is disabled.

Intel VT - x can be disabled if it has been disabled in the BIOS/firmware settings or host was not powered by bicycle since changing this setting.

    (1) check that the settings BIOS/firmware activate Intel VT - x and disable "trust execution."

2 turn on the host if either of these BIOS/firmware settings have been changed.

    (3) turn on the host if you have not done since the installation of VMware Workstation.

    (4) update of the BIOS/firmware from the host to the latest version.

I've been Googling this problem since yesterday and so far, I have not come to any possible solution. Certainly, I can install the 32-bit linux flavor, but that doesn't help me when I run the installation to other 64-bit operating systems.

I was able to resolve the issue, after most googleing. I'm always a little surprised that it works, but hey, Ubuntu is installing.

I installed Microsoft Visual Studio, including phone windows SDK (must be included).  I disabled and then Hyper-V by issued this command in a shell of administrator command:

    bcdedit/set hypervisorlaunchtype

If you want to reactivate it, you then type this command

    bcdedit/set auto hypervisorlaunchtype

    Hello

What operating system is tryining install you?

Take a minute to watch in VMware Compatibility Guide: search guest conductor /and try to upgrade to a version 3.1.4 If your system does not support the direct execution of 64-bit.

  • Is it possible to install multiple copies of Windows 7 in Virtualbox as guest operating system

    Hello

My laptop runs on Linux OS, I installed VirtualBox. Now, I would like to install multiple copies of Windows 7 on VirtualBox as a guest operating system.

    Is this possible?

My activation will expire after 3 installations?

What are the limits in this situation?

Microsoft treats several facilities in VirtualBox (as guest operating system) as a single installation instance? I think that the hardware (motherboard) is used as a fingerprint to detect changes in the systems, but as the material is going to be the same custom installation will be treated as a single instance?

    Help, please...

    Thank you

    Hello

There are not 3 installs with 1 license

A Windows license is for a single installation, and this includes in Virtual Machines.

The virtual machine behaves exactly like a physical machine in this regard.  Installation of a 32 bit OS does not make your CPU a 32-bit CPU.

If you want to disable the 64-bit mode, add the following advanced configuration option:

    monitor_control.disable_longmode = TRUE

  • What iso (HR) Centos to use when installing on VM guest operating system?

When you install a guest operating system Centos 5.5 on a VSphere VM, I'm a bit puzzled by this what iso i386 to download & install.

    • DVD: seems to be the right choice for me, although large

    • CD 1 of 7: will probably ask me to mount other CD.

    • the netinstall CD: should work if the virtual machine has network connectivity good to contribute to the installation

Thanks in advance for all advice here... Lyle

I always use DVD iso file (download via bittorrent client). Not only that you get everything you need in a single iso file, but it is easier to manage on the data store (where you keep the iso files OS). Locate a mirror which seems to be more close to where you are (in the world/country) and allows to start with. Of course, your connection speed will dictate how long it takes to download the file. I also usually download files iso of OS at home, so that I don't have to worry about sucking to the top of the bandwidth in the office, and I have no need to worry about a firewall rule prevents me to get the files.

Once the installer has spent three or four cd iso files, I opted to enter the DVD ISO... It's simply more light and to download the iso DVD because it does not worry about change iso files during installation, or have several virtual cd/dvd drives connected to a single virtual machine. It is also faster set-up, because that's what reading the single iso file, not seven.

  • Trouble installing the guest operating system

    All,

Having trouble installing the guest operating system - Windows XP SP3. I followed the directions of the booklet that I try to boot from a local image and a CD. I can't able to get into the setup of the BIOS to start the virtual machine when you press F8. I am currently on a decentralized network that starts his BONES from a PXE server. When I turn on my VM, its shows the boot process than my actual desktop. I tried many configurations, but still problems. All instight would be useful. Thank you.

    Welcome to the forums!

To enter the VMWare guest BIOS press F2, no F8.

You can also add 'bios. BootDelay = 10000 "in the prompt .vmx file. This gives you more time to press F2.

The virtual guest has a CD-ROM attached to it?

Is it "connect to turn on?

Is it connected to the physical machine (where the OS CD is inserted)?

  • Parallels VM - vm windows as a guest operating system - it can actually install on Windows (vista) VMS

I bought Dw autonomous cs6 for windows and installed on a desktop computer once...? This means that I can install in your laptop? This laptop can be a Mac with Parallels VM - vm windows as a guest operating system - so can actually install on Windows (vista) vm?

Usually with Adobe software you can install and run on up to two systems - including virtual machines - provided that they are not used at the same time.

To move your license, it is also relatively simple to transfer the software between computers, if that's what you never want or need to do.

  • Impossible to install the guest operating system - no boot from CD

I am definitely a newbie with VM. I installed ESXi 3.5 on an HP/Compaq ML370. Everything installed properly and I have created a virtual machine. I am trying to install a Windows Server 2003 operating system. I can't boot from the WIndows CD. In the BIOS of the virtual machine, I have the CD first in the boot order. In the settings of the virtual machine for the CD drive, I selected host drive and connect to market. When I turn on the virtual computer, it does not boot from the CD, it goes through startup options and then Reports, it cannot find an operating system. It seems that it does not recognize the CD drive. What troubleshooting steps can I take to do this?

Another point, the ML370 is a G3, and I believe that the HCL for departures from ML370 G5 or higher, so I don't know if maybe it's a question.

    Thank you

You must set the start time of your virtual machine

Change the settings from-> tap Options

You must set the time in milliseconds. Then turn on the virtual machine

Place the CD into your CD drive and start the virtual machine for you to connect to your CD-ROM drive. If the domain controller is bootable, the virtual machine will boot from CD
