Establishment of a virtual network - need help

I need a simple few steps before right to set up a virtual network to communicate between my computer and my virtual machine.

The documentation is really not very clear.  I have configured my virtual machine as a host only network, it's that I went. I can't decipher the manual to allow me to access the folders/drive of virtual machines from the host.  I never put in place a network before first of all, I read the manual about it, but it's a little confusing. Could someone give me it please help step by step instructions. I searched the web and the info is sparse at best.

Also, if I want to run my host on my VM thinApp. How could I get this? Could someone walk me through the steps?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

No, there is no need to disable one or both of them.

VMnet 8 is the NAT network. It is also ServerD by the DHCP server, but it has another range of IP. If you use this type for your vNIC your guest will be hidden from the outside and the host acts as a proxy and a NAT device. This means that if comments you send the packets they will appear as packets between the host and other systems. Only the replies to these packets are routed to the customer. You cannot connect to external systems prompt as it is hidden. If you need to connect to the host using NAT, you must configure the VMware NAT service to redirect specific to the guest ports. Port 80 for a Web server on the client, for example.

  • Establishment of a virtual network

    Hi all

Sorry if this question is asked a million times, but as a beginner to ESXi, I'm having some trouble to configure my virtual network. The pointers in the right direction or links to the guides of initiation would be accepted with gratitude.

Basically, at the moment, I have Win 2 K 8 R2 x 64 and Win 7 x 64 VMs put in place on my server ESXi. The 2 k 8 is a domain on my existing external domain controller. It is also a DHCP and DNS server (I'm going to RRAS later). It has 2 vNIC. The first card (wan) receives an ip address on my broadband router and is therefore very well (I'll deal with public IP addresses later). The second is the interface lan / vlan and is configured with a static IP, 192.168.20.5, which is the address of the dns server and the subnet ip (192.168.20.x) served by DHCP. Ideally, I would like to connect to a physical NETWORK card for the internal network physical, but also a virtual internal network that vms in the same domain can connect to.

The vm Win7 has a vNIC and does not have an address at the present time. It is configured on VM2, as is the internal vNIC to the domain controller.

At a later date, I also intend to add a second domain separate and DC with the same configuration (we run two businesses from the same site). There may be any connection between the two. The physical aspect is pretty straighforward. It would simply be a matter of physical extra network adapters and duplicate the configuration for the first area?

    I hope this makes sense.

    Thanks in advance.

    Graeme

The second network has no network management...

Network management is used to manage host ESXi itself and has nothing to do with the Virtual Machine networks, so there is no need to install a network of management on each vSwitch.

... and I don't have internet on the virtual machine windows 7.

How could you, without uplink. It is basically the same as for a physical network. If a PC is connected to a switch, and there is no connection to the Internet (for example, a router), you will have the chance to work online.

It will appear and I could binds to Network 2 VM when it is connected so that the server can serve both physical customers?

    Yes, it should work.

I need bridging the connections in some way to allow the customer to win 7 access internet connection of the VM network 1.

What is the purpose of separate areas if you want now fill the networks? What you can do is use a firewall (for example, pfSense), configure a separate vSwitch for each domain (without uplinks) and configure the firewall to connect to each vSwitch 'domain' as well as with the uplink to allow Internet traffic to the different areas but block direct traffic between them.

  • Adapter not detected network - need help ASAP

I want to install ESXI 5.5.0 on a HP HPE-170 t for test purposes and for a reason that the network adapters are not detected... I tried both ESXI 5.5 base ISO, then the custom for ESXI 5.5 HP image and both do not detect network cards.

I need this resolved as soon as possible.

Ideas or recommendations or solutions possible?

    Evening,

There is no easy way to solve this problem since the HPE-170 t is not on the HCL.  I think you have two options:

    1. install a NETWORK adapter that is on the HCL and install 5.5

    2. write / find a driver for your network card and install it in a customized image of ESXi.  Then install ESXi

Sorry that I have not better new... you can also run Vmware workstation on this machine and run ESXi as a virtual machine... that's my way around the HCL.

    Thank you

I could check but you need to install teamviewer. I don't know if it will install in SafeMode tho.

Press simultaneously the windows + r or go to run. Type msconfig. Look under the Startup tab if safe mode is checked uncheck the box as well as the network then reboot

  • Need help to choose the correct setting in the virtual network Editor

This is my first time using machines virtual period. What I do is implementing a laboratory MCSE to follow certain CBT courses, I bought. I created a team of three virtual machines - two of them that are running WIndows Server 2003 and the other WIndows XP. The lab wants to use the following TCP/IP parameters for the three machines (Server1, Server11 and XP1)

    Server1:

    192.168 1,201

    255.255.255.0

    192.168.1.254

11 server: 192.168.1.211 (same gateway and subnet as Server1)

XP1: 192.168.1.1 (ditto for the door and the subnet as Server1)

Primary DNS is set to 192.168.1.201 (Server1 is DNS server).

Default VMWorkstation allowed me to ping both servers very well without any additional configuration. My problem is when I try to fix the DNS redirector on Server1. Any DNS server IP address that I plug in I could not get my XP box to get out of the Internet. I know it's a problem with my virtual network settings, I'm sure. Problem is I don't know where to start. Can someone point me in the right direction?

    Thank you!

    General things:

You cannot use the IP address ranges which are used somewhere else, and that the host might be able to see.

Type ' ipconfig/all' on the host and the glance to the adapter VMnet8. Suppose you see a 192.168.30.1 there. This means that your network VMnet8 address is 192.168.30.0/24 (24 =, displayed subnet mask as 255.255.255.0).

Your DNS and gateway for virtual systems would be 192.168.30.2.

You can check this in the editor of virtual network on the NAT tab.

To change the range of network addresses VMnet8 you must use the virtual network Editor.

    1. go on 'host Virtual Network Mapping.

    2. click on the ">" beside VMnet8 and choose "subnet".

    3. change address you need. It's the network address, so the last digit (in your case!) should be 0. The address range should not be used elsewhere (physical network, VMnet1).

    4. click on 'apply '.

    5. When you click on the ">" again and choose DHCP or NAT you can see that all addresses have been changed accordingly.

When you enter ' ipconfig/all' to the host, you will see that the VMnet8 host adapter has an IP address of your selected range with 1 node address (e.g. 192.168.1.1).

The gateway and the DNS so its node address + 1 (192.168.1.2).

  • Need help with the data storage store, local array and network connections

Need help with my ESXi 4.1 installation

    My hardware:

I built a server with an Asus P6T whitebox, i7 920, 12 Gig RAM, NIC, Intel Pro1000 PT Quad, 3ware 9650SE-12ML with 8 1.5 TB SATA green in a raid 6 array gives me about 8 + TB with a spare drive all housed within a NORCO RPC-4220 4U Rackmount Server chassis.  I also have a 500 GB SATA drive which will hold the ESXi and virtual machines.

The network includes a firewall, Netgear Prosafe FVS336G, GS724Tv of Netgear ProSafe 24 port Gigabit Managed Switch on a dhcp cable modem internet service provider.

I also have 2 old NetGear SC101T NAS disks (4to) I want to connect to the system how some - at a later date have... data on them and want to transfer to the new storage array. I always looking into the question of whether they will work with ESXi 4.1, or I might have to only access it through Windows XP.

    My Situation:

I have already installed ESXi 4.1 and vsphere client with no problems and it is connected to a dhcp cable internet service.  I've set up host via a dynamic DNS service name give me a static hostname on the internet.  I installed three machines to virtual OS successfully at the moment and now want to first start by creating a multimedia storage server which will use some of this new 8 TB array, then separate data storage for use with a web server small overhead storage and a backup.  It is a domestic installation.

Help with the data store and network:

I was doing some reading, because I'm new to this, and it looks like I'll probably want to set up my table via ESXi as a nfs disk format.  Now, the data store is usually in another physical box from what I understand, but I put my readers and ESXi all in the same box.  I'm not sure that the best way to put in place with grouped network cards, but I want to make this work.

I understand that in ESXi 4.1 using iSCSi LUN must be less than 2 TB, but nfs - I should be able to add a bigger partition then 2 TB (for my multimedia) in nfs, right? or should I still add it separately as a separate 2 TB drives and then extend them to get the biggest space.

Any suggestions or direct resources showing examples on how to actually add some parts of the table as data warehouses separate nfs.  I know that to go to the configuration tab, and then select Add to storage, and then select nfs. I have not my picture, but it's here that I don't know what to do because ESXi 4.1 system already has an address, should I put the same thing to the new data store array also (will it work?), and what should I use for the name of the folder and the store of data... just do something to the top.  I thought to later install Openfiler (for a multimedia storage using this table server) as a virtual machine, use the table with esxi so that I can access the same storage space with widows and linux-based systems.

I also know I have to find a way to better use my quad nic card... put in place of virtual switches, grouping, etc HELP?

Any direction, assistance, similar facilities to sample, suggestions or resources that would help would be great. I did a lot of hunting, but still a little confused on how to best to put in place.

You must think of VMDK files of large databases with records of random size guest go read some data (a DLL or an INI file), maybe write some data back, then go read other data. Some files are tiny, but certain DLLs are several megabytes. It's random i/o all and heavy on the search time. IO Opsys is small random operations that are often sequential (go read data, write data, go read other data,...) so that deadlines are critical to the overall performance. That's why people say OPS are / s of reference and forget the MBs flow. The only time where you bulk transfers are when you read media (ISO files).

Well, now forget all this. Actually the disk activity will depend on the specific applications (database? mail server? machines compiler?), but the above is true for boots, and whenever applications are idle. You should see the profile to know.

RAID 10 is faster (and often more reliable) than RAID 5 or RAID-6 except in certain specific cases. In General RAID 10 is ideal for many random writes, since the calculation of parity for RAID-5 and - 6 adds to the overall latency between command and response - latency is cumulative if a little slow here and a little slow it adds up to a lot of overall slow synchronous especially with e/s on a network. OTOH RAID-5 and -6 can produce faster readings due to the number of heads, so you can use it for virtual machines that transfer bulk. Test. You may find that you need several different types subdashboards for best results.

You said 3ware, they have some good grades on their site, but don't believe it. With my 9650 that I found myself with only a couple of their recommendations-, I put the (simple) table for allocation size 256 k, nr_requests at 2 x the queue_depth and use the planner date limit. I had the habit for the Ext4 file system formatted with stride and stripe-width synced to the table and used the options large_files with fewer inodes (do not use the huge_files option unless you plan to have single VMDK files in the terabyte range). Use a cache of great reading in advance.

Virtual machines use VMDK files in all cases except raw iSCSI LUN that they treat native disks. VMDK is easier to manage - you can make a backup by copying the file, you can move it to a PC and load it into another flavour of VMware, etc. There could be some features iSCSI to your San as a transparent migration but nothing for me. NFS has less chatter of Protocol if latency lower times to complete an operation. NFS is good to read and write a block of data, that's all it boils down to.

UPS is good, but it won't help if something inside the machine explodes (UPS does nothing if the PC power supply goes down). If the RAID card has an option for a battery backup module, so it can contain some writings in memory and may end up the disk i/o after replacing the power supply. 3ware also limits the types of caching available if help is not installed, and you get just the right numbers with the module.

  • Need help networking Lab Manager

    Hello

I'm having some problems with the implementation of a closed network and to be able to access the external environment of the fence.

We have a production environment that I cloned for use for testing and development, so we have to our QA and Dev staff to be able to RDP to the virtual machine and to be able to run scripts from their PC in the environment of LM.

The implementation of models and the creation of the configurations are made and the VM can all see each other on their internal network. All IP addresses are exactly the same, as they are in the production network (IP address of 192.168.11.xx).

I created a network physical and fenced (192.168.208.xx IP address) by using the static method - Pool of IP and static manual Options, set the default gateway of 192.168.208.1 and linked to a virtual switch on the host computer that is connected to one of our basic physical switches. The port, we connect uplink to switch, is in it's own VLAN and has the IP address of 192.168.208.1 and allow us the IP to the DEV, QA VLAN but not the vlan production by using access lists.

When I deploy the configuration, network fencing itself and I can see the virtual router using the VI client, however, I cannot ping the addresses or RDP at all on 192.168.208.xx LM Beach assigns to the configuration of the VM. The virtual machine inside the configuration, however, can ping those addresses natted (as well as internal addresses).

I managed to connect to the virtual router and I noticed that the 2 interfaces are both on the 192.168.208.xx network. We shouldn't be on the internal range of configuration (192.168.11.xx) in order to make routing / natting correctly? What do we lack?

When close you a physical network, the vRouter resumes the internal address of the physical network IP pool. When you connect a virtual network to a physical network, the vRouter returns to the internal address of the virtual network IP pool.

It seems to me that your virtual machines were given to the 192.168.11.xx with manual option static, right? In this case, the router will again resume an internal address from the pool of the physical network (think about it, where else would he get all this?). Your needs, create a virtual network with a range of IP addresses in the 192.168.11.xx address space as there are enough IPs for all the virtual machines in your configuration and an additional IP for the internal NIC. of the vRouter use the option "Connection networks to physical virtual networks" while deploying.

    This might help:

  • Need help understanding create new network / different subnets for 2nd VM NIC

I am newer to Vmware and not quite sure that the best way to accomplish the task.  I have a couple of hosts of ESX 4.0 update 1, each host has several physical network connected to the LAN interface cards and iSCSI, vCenter with about 10 mV and each VM has only a single virtual NETWORK adapter for LAN.

I need to install a new virtual machine with a special application that must be double virtual NICed.  1 NETWORK card must be on the private LAN (e.g. 192.168.10.x) and NIC2 must have a public IP (e.g. 4.2.2.x).  I was going to give NIC2 a private address and NAT through our Cisco PIX firewall, but I am told that causes problems with the application and it must have a public IP address on NIC2.  I now host a card physical NETWORK connected to public physical switch outside the firewall (so I can give him a pub addess).

I have a physical NETWORK card I booked for this on the Vmware host.  How can I create virtual switch separate from the local LAN, associated with the physical NIC to the virtual switch, assign a range of IP addresses that are associated to the public IP address works (if that's what I do)?  From there on, I think that we would give the real public IP to vNIC2 during the installation of the OS.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Steve

    Welcome to the forums.

You can add an additional vSwitch and assign the 2nd physical NIC as the uplink. All the networks is done through the vSphere client configuration tab. In the virtual machine settings just add an extra vNIC and connetct for the new vSwitch.

You should have a look through the information on http://www.vmware.com/technical-resources/virtual-networking/

  • Need help with network home using Airport extreme

I need help with my home network.  I'm not very aware when it comes to all things network.  Here's how my network is currently set up.

Cable modem to Airport Extreme for Gigabit Switch.  Cables come out of the switch to all areas of the House.  I have 2 other extreme airport connected in other rooms of the House directly on the wall that dates back to the switch.  I hope I am explaining that properly.

My problem is that this seems to have caused some of my connections cable does not work.  When everything is configured, it has worked well.  All connections in the House worked.  Then we have disconnected one of the extreme airport and moved to another location in the House to have the best wifi coverage.  Since that time, a lot of the ethernet wall plugs are not working.  For example, when I plug in my Macbook Pro in making ethernet in my kitchen, it says connected but it has an assigned ip address and cannot connect to the internet.

Any help you can provide would be great.

I would like to get the return tech to help you to...

But it is likely that something (or someone) has tampered with the settings.

The layout is fine... but you can cause problems with the network by creating a loop.

This can happen because the AE you moved is connected wrongly... somewhere in the network it is connected to the switch again.

Or AE is set to expand wireless... It's FAKE... It will loop the network on the back main EI wireless.

Unplug the two AE you have that function as extensions...

Turning off everything else... then it works again...

    Do it in this order.

    Modem... Wait 2 min

    AE... Wait 2 min

    Switch.

Now check that the network is working properly... power of customers in various locations and make sure everything is good.

If so, then manually reset the two AE of factory and redo their installation.

    Hi BSRC$, in stock

    1. You have security software installed on the computer?
    2. You receive an error message when you restart the computer?

Reinstalling Windows XP to the factory setting would not be the first option.

It is possible that some third-party programs or the services installed on the computer interfere with the installation of service pack 3.

I suggest that you try to uninstall service pack 3 from the computer by using the recovery console and subsequently ask the article below for what to do before installing the service pack 3on the computer.

AND THEN we had to install local printers, using the port trick...

    1. go to 'printers '.

    3 Add a local printer.
    4. "create a new Port.
    5. use the "Local Port" option

And if all goes well should do!

    Good luck!
