Excess data usage survey

Comcast, my ISP, send me notice of excessive use of data. As far as I KNOW, nothing has changed, but the data usage continues. Things I've tried so far:

1 installed band bandwidth + on our two iMacs. At first glance, it seems to come from my Mac. So I did a complete reinstall of Mac OS X 10.11.2 and reinstalled all the apps (ugh!). I thought that this solved, but additional use of data GB (!) 40 arrived the day after.

2 wifi password changed. I have an an Airport Extreme network, with an old Airport Extreme and Airport Express Terminal two last generation connected by Ethernet to extend the wifi network. This network is unchanged for many months before the excess data usage report. Don't think that anyone can participate in the network due to the distance between the houses. Change the password for the wifi should eliminate this possibility remote.

I know that the last Airport Extreme removed SNMP (booo!) so there is no easy way to identify the data using the source. I have a number of different home devices connected either wired or wireless entertainment. I know I can disconnect all devices and connect one at a time to try to identify the bad but it of a last resort and does not take a lot of time. Someone know another tool or approach to identify the guilty of excessive use of data?

Thanks for all the ideas.

John

Buy a cheap router that supports Gargoyle packages. You can buy something like a WNDR3800 on ebay as cheap as chips. New I would buy a v2 WR1043ND TP-Link (not v3 to verify in the shops, the number and the version is printed under the bar code) I'm not allowed to give you the URL of firmware Gargoyle then google it. (apple let me say much but not reference.. strange!) The store may also sell you a pre a flashed.

This router can then give you a breakdown of the total use and how that much each article on your network is running.

He will have to take over as the main router... but your main AE can be filled to him and the rest of the network will work fine.

This makes it extremely easy not just see what is used, but more important still to fight against it.

  • PEAK iOS 9.3.1 ATT data usage

In recent weeks, ATT claimed for my iPhone running iOS 9.3.1 uses given to 4 - 5 times the rate that I've used over the past years - around 1 GB/day. As far as I know, nothing has changed in my network setup or my usage patterns. The personal hotspot is disabled, location services are turned off, my wireless network has not changed and there is no new devices on the network. I suddenly started to watch movies on my phone or something like that. Call AT & T was useless - the problem could not be in their accounting system, it's probably because I turned on e-mail notifications, and while you're on the phone, we can sell you a new data plan or new services? My questions:

    * Where should I look for the use of the data? Apple has my phone download stuff like new BONE behind my back every night?

    * Has anyone challenged successfully with AT & T data charges?

    (1) iOS should download only when Wi - Fi access.

    (2) I have AT & T, but did not have this problem

Try turning off the Wi - Fi assist.

Try a forced reboot. Hold down the home and Sleep/Wake buttons at the same time for about 15 seconds , until the Apple logo appears. You won't lose anything.

Try resetting the network settings: settings > general > reset > reset network settings. Join the network again.

Try a system restore. First save your device via iTunes. Also import your photos on your computer and copy all the important data. Reconstruction of the support first test and test. If this does not help, you may need to restore as a new and reconfigure from scratch as the backup may be damaged. It is important to have your photos and your saved data separately from the backup. • Excessive CPU usage during online streaming

    Hello!

First of all, let me tell you how great it is to have a support forum for my new laptop.

I have a couple of things that maybe someone knows a lot more than myself will not be able to help me with (I hope)

The first thing is (and the title of this thread):

CPU use excessive multimedia Youtube streaming while.

During playback of a standard video stream of You Tube, the processor in the Task Manager is erratic to say the least. The indicator CPU usage jumps upwards to 85%, and during playback, causing the stream to "stutter".

I use the latest versions of FireFox (17.0.1) and Adode Flash plug in (11.05 r502) even though I know You Tube will flow its media using HTML5, without the need for the Shockwave plugin.

    The second thing is:

    Slow system

I haven't used this laptop since I bought it new in July 2012. I recently needed to use and found that the entire system is extremely slow.

I haven't used internet on this computer until today. The software I used is media production tools. However, open the Control Panel, start remote system, using Windows Explorer, any task seems incredibly slow.

    The third thing is:

Start of this laptop seems to use about 1.2 GB of Washington.

If someone has any advice they could give me it would be much appreciated.

    Cheers, Dave

Nice that you share your experience with your laptop, but I will say a:
You take on the laptop but no one knows what model of laptop you have exactly.

    > CPU usage excessive while Youtube multimedia streaming.
    > During playback of a video stream standard You tube, the processor in the Task Manager is erratic to say the least. The indicator CPU usage jumps upwards to 85%, and during playback, causing the stream to "stutter".

This happens because of the Forefox or the plug-in for the Forefox.
Maybe you should try another internet browser

How about new installation OS, system using CCleaner and disabling context is not necessary cleaning processes?
Processes that are running in the background may be checked in MSCONFIG disabled
But as this feature is recommended for advanced users only, you mustn't touch him without knowing what to do.

Do you think that this value is false, or maybe the operating system uses for a lot of RAM?

  • Is the iPad limit data usage via personal hotspot from my iPhone?

I have unlimited use of data in the Netherlands, but in France the use of the data is limited. I don't want my iPad to consume all the data because of unwanted downloads.

Using an iPad with an iPhone 5s mini3. Both running latest version of the OS.

No, the iPad doesn't "know" that you have a limit on your data. It does not change the behavior of use based on the type of connection (other that it will not download files more 100 mg on cell phone).

  • Unknown data usage "background."

So, I have firefox OS B2G OS 2.2 and the battery is not lasting half a day. Began to seek what could be draining the battery I decided to uninstall all applications that I could, calendar and emails synchronizes the manual value and closed all remaining applications (except for owapp and telegram because I don't want to go through the new registration process). Then I reset monitor the use of data and after an hour, using the phone to all of this, that's what I have:

    Other: 10,56 MB
    OWapp: 4.12 KB

So, openwapp it is supposed to check for new messages every 10 minutes so I guess it's normal, but where are all these other 10 MB of "other apps" coming from when I use not even my phone.
Maybe it's because my battery is running low so fast?

I don't think it's a battery problem because if I disable the use of data, then the battery lasts for much longer than a day!

    my best, jose.

I post this info for someone how can run into this thing and also for this mark as resolved.
Finally I uninstalled the telegram (which I barely used) and suddenly disappeared from unknown data consumption and now my battery is hard a day and a half with all services running (e-mail, openwapp, calendar, messages, ets). But I must say that I don't use my phone much.
I will report that the developers of telegram.

    Thanks, jose.

  • How to reduce the WiFi data usage

I'm working on a ship that costs £20 for 750 MB of data and I continue to use it very quickly and cost a fortune. I need to find a way to control how much data using im.

    I disabled the following:

    • Automatic downloads music,
      • Apps
      • Books and audio books
      • Updates
    • iCloud
      • iCloud photo library
      • My photo stream
      • Backup

The problem seems to occur mostly when connected to Wifi and connected to the power supply.

Solutions or ideas would be appreciated as its cost of my colleagues and myself a fortune to connect with our families back home.

When I say that I continue to use the data, it seems to disappear as some funtcion background to use. for example automatic update. Anyone know what could be the cause?

  • Best app for data usage?

Personally, I use one of the phone settings. You can also set a warning in case you get almost reached your limit.

  • Excessive CPU usage

Windows Vista: CPU goes to about 50% of use regularly and the fan operates at high speed.  This occurs with any running application.  Manager tasks indicates System Idle Process at 90 to 94 percent, still 2 to 4 percent for the Task Manager, and several other alternate 1% each, but the CPU usage is stable at 40 to 50 percent.  Sometimes, this is Windows defender causing the it and drops of CPU usage down to normal after he stops his scan or I get impatient and stop the service.  Most of the time, however, it is not caused by windows defender.

Anyone have any idea which takes up my CPU?  It's really annoying because it kills the performance of the software I'm running.  Any suggestions? (and no, windows 7 is out of the question).

    Lame Hi Willie,

1 when was the last time it was working fine?

    2. did you of recent changes on the computer?

It is possible that some third-party programs installed on the computer is causing the problem.

I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

See the link below to learn more about how to clean boot.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

Reset the computer to start as usual

When you are finished troubleshooting, follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click Start, type msconfig in the search box and press ENTER.

    (b) If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    (c) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (d) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click on restart.

    I hope this helps!

  • BlackBerry Z10 too much data usage

Nice day... I use Z10STL100-1/10.2.1.3247 and it really is using too much data.

Is there a way... Maybe the settings I have change so that it does not use the data so much. In the last three days, I've been through 3Gigs already.

    Help, please.

In BBworld slide down - settings - network and the limitations of data - use WiFi only = we

To ensure that applications are not installed using data.

Downloading movies is the only thing that I can imagine would consume / 3GB in 3 days.

  • Siri is off, but data usage said that it has been used.

My father was my old iPhone 4S. He is currently having problems of use of main batteries. Today at 12:55 he had 89% battery left and 5 hours later than 11%. Outside text tell me he has a problem, he has not used the phone. His use of the battery indicates that it has used 78% on Siri in the last 24 hours. However his Siri is off!

Amy advice would be much appreciated.

    Hey there Helen.

    Welcome to Apple Support communities.

As I understand it, there is a problem with iPhone battery life your dad 4 s, which seems to be linked to Siri. If you haven't already done so, try to restart the iPhone, as described in the article below.

  • Spoolsv.exe constant excessive CPU usage

I am running Vista and after the upgrade to Office 2010, I have problems with spoolsv.exe following one of the 99% CPU all the time.  I have installed all the current updates, have you tried the "FixIt" and there is no persistent spool file in the spooler.  I also deleted all unnecessary printers just to remove any possibility there was a cause of the problem.  If I stop the service spooler CPU and when I restart the service remains low until I opened an application using a printer (Outlook, Word, Excel or practically anything else I opened).  Can anyone help?  Thank you!

    Hi ShermanJones,

    · What is the number and model of the printer that you are using?

    1. check any error code or error message in the event viewer: link: open Event Viewer: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Open-Event-Viewer

2 in safe mode, delete the printer and spool driver files. To do this, start Windows Explorer and delete all the files and folders in the following two folders

Start your computer in safe mode: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

Remove the printer and spool driver files:

    1. Click Start, type cmd and right click on cmd.exe, select run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type your password or click on continue.

    2. at the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each)

    3 Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers Printers.old

    4 Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 w32x86.old

  • Excessive RAM usage

    Hello
Recently, I noticed that, even when my PC has been left Idle, 2.37 GB of Ram was used...
While my friends have one use of 500 MB.
I'd really like to reduce this use. Thank you
More information: my laptop: HP Pavilion g6. 6 GB of Ram, 1 GB dedicated graphics card, 64-bit

    AP

It is not because of the RAM.  You are not even 50% of yours so much is gone.  Late development can be caused by many things including networking, a corrupt driver, etc.

First of all, I would like to check your network connection by running a speedtest (speedtest.net).  The download speed is as important as the download.

For the time of latency, I ran these 2 free applications
