Experiences with RED R3D: CS5 and in general?

I'll post my first spot with images of a RED One next week. I've only played with a few clips and not tried anything 'real' with her yet.

The film is made in 4K 16 x 9, I think of 23.976. Final delivery will be 720/30 p for broadcasting/cablecasting. Fortunately, no sound synchronization worry in this one. I get the RED drive full of pictures tomorrow afternoon, so I'll have some time to play with the equipment.

My system seems to be OK with clips of 4.5 K I tested. I kick down to 1/4 and 1/2 resolution break, and things reading seems catchy. My system is a i7-930 @ 4 GHz, 24GO RAM, GTX 480, 4-drive RAID 5 off the coast of the mobo that serves as my main drive of edition.

I looking for general advice dealing with this material in general at the OS level, just in case where there are best practices and pitfalls to the extent of the CS5 is concerned. I am trying to determine what would be the best configuration of the sequence to be used; I want to use a preset matching RED, or by mail to my destination size/frame rate? My usual approach with my own 1080 p material (DVCPRO HD, primarily) is to change in a sequence of 1080 p full raster and then export them directly to 720 p to deliver. I think I'll take the same approach here, working at 4K and export to the final, but I'm open to suggestions. Work at a lower frame size would obviously give me sliding options.

I can do a little light AE work on this; nothing too things I flip that quite quickly. I hope to make it a shine - the producer is terrified of RED (of course, he's the one who usually shoots 35mm and there telecine to miniDV), and if all goes well I'll have much more regular tasks to do like this... and I'll get to raise rates!

Thanks in advance you seasoned REDitors

Hey Colin,.

I have worked extensively with R3D in PPSC5 and REDCINE-X.

First note - don't bother with Cine-X... Now that CS5 (starting from 5.0.3) supports the new science of the color in the build 30, there is no need to use movie-X as an intermediary. According to my experience it is both very slow and also VERY unstable. If you start to do too much, it crashes. And this isn't just my system, word on the street, it's that Cine-X is unstable both on the PC and the Mac, period.

Then, use PPro CS5 for everything you do with R3D.

If you go to crop, then Yes, go ahead and edit in 720. There are RED presets for down in the lower ranges, too, so I would use a RED 720p30 preset in order to paste in the RED presets for editing. It may not make a difference, but I just watch is as best practices... Either paste elsewhere, in a "Preset" RED.

Œuvres RED beautifully in PProCS5... I have a 920 with three disk RAID-0 and the GTX285 and I put it on the ground 1/4 and full of break and it works beautifully up to four layers. I haven't worked beyond four layers, but it was still good when I hit four.

Note for you with the clip for the RED settings dialog box... You can save preset settings, then go in your first shot of a specific configuration, it get the way you like it and then create a preset for that. Then choose the rest of the clips in the tray under the angle of the shot and apply this preset. Repeat for different configurations of shooting required.

Adobe has done a great job, building of support really fluid and flawless for RED and with the 5.0.3 release, they got support for the science of colours 30 build as well.

R3D Edition has been a great experience for me...

Hello.  Can I reinstall CS2 with its upgrade CS5 and Lightroom 3 on my new computer in Windows 10?

You need not install CS2 if your real intention is to install CS5.  You should be able to simply provide the serial number for CS2 as the eligible product when you activate CS5.

  • How to create the dual boot with Red Hat Linux and Vista on Satellite A200

    Hi all!

I have a Satellite A200 pre-installed with vista home premium and I would install another OS that is Red Hat Linux Fedora Core 7.
Can someone advice me how do? I'll be very grateful to receive your answers. Thanks again!

Well, I put t use this Linux distro on my laptop but I used the Knoppix Live CD and it was very easy.
It was not necessary to install anything. I simply booted from the Live CD and I could use the full Linux operating system.

So, it might be better to use this Linux live CD instead of the complete installation.
I think that the main problem would be available to the driver.
The fact is that Toshiba does not support Linux on laptops and so Linux drivers are not available.

  • Markers in gray with RED .r3d files!

I swallowed a bunch of RED .r3d files, markers are grayed out and I can't use them.  I have tried everything and can't get to work at all.

Before anyone asks, Yes, I left of the .r3d in their original structure of folders...

    Any ideas?

    Thank you!

    Hello

RED is a format that adobe has not yet support XMP metadata.  Without this support, prelude knows that he cannot add markers. That's why the markers are grayed out. RED metadata support is in our backlog of product for a future version.

    Kind regards

  • Someone at - it experience with RED 4 k on an iMac?

I've just been called teach editing with PPro CS5 on an iMac here at the school where I work, at 9:30 in the morning. I have not used it much Mac, and I've never used body on the Mac.

The class used the PCF (which has been the editor of choice for teacher), but he (the teacher) just found out the week last that the reason all RED 4 k they tried edit pictures has a greenish tint is because the PCF does not support color RED space later... then he tried transcoding all with CINE-X to ProRes422 this weekend , but on his iMac only had 21 of 141 transcoded files in almost three days. There is no time to finish transcoding, so he asked me to come in tomorrow and learn at the class to use PPro CS5 so that they can complete their projects there and use the RED images in native mode.

I don't know the specs of these personal computers, but I was wondering if anyone has any which input on how well an iMac will handle RED 4 k images...

The images that I use to test on my older Mac to work the basic features are 4 k RED footage, and I have no problem. Without knowing the specifications of iMac computers that you will be working with, it is difficult to say anything certain.

A trick is to work with your other than reading resolution of full. If your film is 4K through, but your program monitor is only a thousand or so pixels across, so you can set resolution of reading to 1/4; Otherwise, you lose a lot of time to process the pixels coming to throw himself away when mounting the image in the Viewer. See this page for details of setting resolution of reading.

I'll be in my office with a Mac in a few hours, so I can answer questions later if necessary.

BTW, here are a few posts of my blog on the new science of the color RED and how to make it work in first Pro CS5:

  • Someone had experience with MS Office 2016 and El Capitan?

I was wondering if anyone has used Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac with OS 10.11.5 for awhile, especially Word?

I just finished setting up a new of the retina end 2015 13 "Macbook Pro.  I used Office 2004 and 2008 on my old Macbook (early 2006, OS 10.6.8).)  I'm a writer, so I use especially Word and Entourage for email. (I kept 2004 because I had a lot of trouble with the Word 2008 .docx files in Snow Leopard and 2004 .doc files compatibility seem to crash less often, although the MS told me that 2004 theoretically will not work with Snow Leopard).

Have been planning to shell out for 2016 Office for Mac, I am dreading out of it because I know from experience that things are never perfectly with any part of the office and there is always a learning curve.  So today I discovered that the resolution of a problem with Apple Care that Word 2008, who immigrated in my new computer with all the rest, can always open old Word files.  So even though I'm assuming that I couldn't go back to work until I installed Office 2016, it seems I can, which is good because I have a date limit.

However, I am uncomfortable to work in Word 2008.  I need to decide whether to risk losing data (I have no reason to believe that Word suddenly remembered how to do automatic recovery or figure out how not to crash OS 10.11.5; probably the contrary) or install Office 2016 and spend a week learning to work in it. Questions:

    1. those who have Office 2008 for Mac tried using Word 2008 for Mac OS 10.11.5? It crash a lot?  Forget all about Auto Recovery etc. ? Or has it been pretty smooth sailing?

2 anyone used Word in OS 10.11.5 a few months, and how it you please?  I know that 2016 Office for Mac had a lot of glitches when it first came out in 2015 for use in El Capitan, although I read that those who have been fixed.  If you use Word a lot, do you think that it works as it is supposed to?

3 how easy or problematic has find you the transition from Word 2008 for Mac-2016 of the word?

Thank you very much in advance for any advice about all this - much appreciated!

I use Office for Mac 2016 and have found no problem - but I'm not a heavy user and did not use from 2008. My main reason for the assignment is to say that you can also get feedback from the Community for Office for Mac forum: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/mac

  • Accidents vascular cerebral at the symbols do not properly flatten with other elements (CS5 and CS6)

    Hello

We have a bunch of symbols of round button for navigation elements that are built in the following way:

    1. Symbol of the circle with a background and outline
    2. Symbol of circle placed in the symbols of button (for example, magnifying glass or arrow)
    3. Button symbols placed on the page

This allows us to update the symbol of the bottom circle and have all the buttons (about 30 of them) update both.

But when symbols return on a dark background, they look like some evil claire raster images - i.e. the edges of crenelated look like they have been flattened on white instead of merging with the background color as a 24-bit png.

I hope you can see the kind of bitsy edge in the image below to see what I mean:

    search-button.png

I don't remember having this problem in the past - I fiddled with the settings of the race, but still no luck, here are the settings as they exist currently:

    stroke-settings.pngstroke-options.png

Is there a setting that controls this behavior I could have changed or missed?

    See you soon

    Ben

There is a dirty little secret with 1 pixel lines: they are not actually aligned in the Center. (How could they be and still stay?) So that your line of single pixel is actually aligned inside. And it is anti-aliased. Most likely what you are noticing is the color fill slightly showing through the semi-transparent parts of the race.

A couple ideas on how to solve this problem: a) set STROKE width of 2px, centered and choose 'Fill on line' under stroke Options, line width b) leave to 1px, line up outside and reduce the dimensions of the object of 1px, STROKE c) Set against zero and adds the line using Photoshop live effects. Somehow, any position is chosen for the alignment of the line in Photoshop live effects, filling line along the outer edges is not a problem. However, each solution will change how the circle is rendered a little, in order to find the best solution requires trial and error.

  • Horizontal bar with red for negative and green for positive terminal?

I need to use CF9 to create the horizontal bar chart where the intensity of the Red (negative) is determined by the amount of the negativity of the values, the same intensity of green is based on the amount of the positivity of the values.

See attached snapshot. Ignore the value label.

CF10 to do this. I have briefly looked at but does not seem so.

    Any advice? Thank you!!

    horzBarGreenRed.png

Very well then.  This is just cfchart format = html then you set the parameters at the CF using the json format or external 'stylesheet' (preferable).  See the other post on my site called ZingChart and ColdFusion.

    Hello

Googling around you can find interesting articles on this subject. One of them you can find here.

  • Experience with the service coverage in Bulgaria

    Hello

I am one of the sysadmins of a large international company, which has offices in Sofia. Bulgaria.
I would like to share my experience with the Toshiba products and service coverage in Bulgaria.

Months ago, we bought an external USB hard drive - STORE. E PARTNER 2.5 500 GB USB 3.0 P/N PA427E-1HE0. After you have deployed the HARD drive, I noticed that the computer constantly loses / restores the connection to the external drive.

As I have suggested that the cable is not inserted properly, I just pulled the cable to the USB connector to check that it fits fully into the socket. To my surprise the just USB connector broke and fell inside the HARD drive chassis. In my opinion, this is a factory default, a badly welded connector.

We talked to the service allowed in Bulgaria: STEMO and they sent the disc with a protocol that it is a physical damage that violates the terms of warranty service.
I can't imagine a way to prove in this case that we have not jumped on this HARD drive and that's the way it came from the box... We went to buy Hitachi after this case, and I can say that we had not a single complaint of users or technical staff.

I would like to say that it was really a bad surprise for me that a multinational company could offer this customer service the poor in Bulgaria, especially given a STEMO dealer who are so famous here for their complete lack of quality of service and poor standards.

This will avoid for sure choose me no matter what other Toshiba products in the future.
    Thank you.

Sorry to hear about this. It is very unfortunate to have such an experience with the authorized service provider but I n t think that such a negative experience such influence negative on you.
One issue doesn't mean Toshiba products are bad.

You know very well that Toshiba is one of the largest companies for HER and material production in general. A few production errors can happen to anyone.

Problem is that many people don t care much material and very often some hardware components can be damaged very easily. Can you imagine how much money Toshiba or any other hardware manufacturer will fix these issues where everybody says it's lack of production?

On a path, I can understand you, but otherwise I can understand Toshiba to be skeptical about these mechanical defects. You as an expert in computer SCIENCE know these issues. Can you imagine how you will react when you give your new notebook your co-worker and a few weeks later it brings you with broken keyboard? I don t think you will accept his argument on construction of bad keyboard.

You know that's not easy to discuss these issues.
In any case, thank you for your ad. This forum is the right place where people can exchange experiences and opinions.

    Good luck

  • Some info about my experiences with Toshiba Bluetooth stack - works fine

    Hej,

I just want to put a few experiences with new Toshiba-stack and Vista.

First, I had to use the MS stack, because of my mobile (Nokia) and its PC Suite and the mouse (Logitech v270). Two applications were not working with the Toshiba Stack. Now with the new battery and the new PC-Suite, it works great under Vista. In addition, I decide to remove Logitech SetPoint (still no support for the Toshiba Stack) because my mouse has actually no special buttons and a built-in battery indicator, so there is no real need to a set value.

Yesterday I bought a Nokia HS-12W and I am impressed. Works like a charm with the Toshiba stack and the sound is just amazing... Can even control the mediaplayer in the helmet. This a custom works with the MS stack. This is why I took a glance at the Toshiba stack- and was surprised.

Hope could help a bit with my impressions!

    Welcome them
    Snipe of the marshes

    Hi Enrico

    Thanks much for this information.
I m not an expert of Bluetooth, but it of very nice to know that this battery has been improved and works better than the early versions.

    Best regards ;)

  • Just installed Photoshop CS5 and sensitivity of the Tablet cannot understand...

    Hello world.

Before with my Photoshop Elements 7 computer, I had no problem with my Tablet Tooya Pro using the Brush tool. The harder I pushed, the thicker the line would be up to the full diameter of the selected brush.

Yesterday I installed Photoshop CS5 (wahoo!), and the brush works very well with the Tablet - but it doesn't seem to be a pressure sensitivity. By clicking the box "Tablet pressure controls size" on the top tool bar does not seem to do anything, and neither not setting the size in the 'pen pressure' Jig in the dynamics of the form in the menu of the brush.

Anyone know anything else I should try? I went back for PSE7 and discovered it always works as it used to, but just for one reason, it will not work right in CS5.

    Thanks for the tips!

Additional details: running Windows 7 64 bit.

I tried the solutions in this section of troubleshooting: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/photoshop/cs/using/WS7EE7587B-452F-4271-8252-898FCA43C27Ca.htm l #ionCTAAnchor

It would not hurt report your findings back to the manufacturer.  They don't know it works only with 32-bit CS5 and not 64-bit, or if they do, a person requesting 64-bit support could push the emphasis of the work up a little bit.
