Original title: I'm not able to open anything that uses Windows Explorer

I'm not able to open anything that uses Windows Explorer.

When I try to open: My Documents, Control Panel, any Office application, etc. - the window remains empty and said "Windows Explorer (not responding)."  My desktop icons are filled and I am able to open the Task Manager.

Any help is greatly appreciated?  Also, I'm not a technology person, so please be very percise.

    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the help.

I had installed the update of MS Windows Defender KB915597.  After doing a restore to the point of restoration, taken at the time of the update, I am now able to open Windows Explorer.

Seems that something in this update does not work with my system.  I have had no other problems with Windows Defender updates in the past - it was the first.

    Thank you.

  • Satellite A200-TH7 - Windows Explorer not responding

At random times (normally when I wake the PC) and I click on the volume control in the taskbar, nothing appears.
Then I'll go to move the physical volume control cursor and nothing will happen.

However, at this time, I'll try to click anywhere on the taskbar, but it freezes and says "Windows Explorer is not responding" and I have to restart the program. Once doing so, volume control isn't even on the taskbar. And if I slide the physical volume slider, Explorer crashes once more.

I have Vista and its a Satellite A200-TH7.

I have the volume on mute so I literally can't hear anything now.
If I restart the computer, it'll work, but this problem occurs frequently.

    Hello

In my view, this has nothing to do with the volume control on the task bar.
In my opinion, there is a problem with the Explorer of Windows Vista.

Usually, you can enable and disable the mute settings in Control Panel-> Sound-> reading tab.

You are able to reach these settings?

  • Ultimate Windows: Explorer not responding

Windows Ultimate: Lately, every time that I right click a folder or a file in a folder, it takes between 12 to 15 seconds to respond with my options (Explorer copy, delete etc...). It is used to respond instantly. What can I do? Thank you

    Hello

    1. don't you make changes to the computer until the problem occurred?

Method 1: Diagnose and repair Windows files and folders problems automatically: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/windows_file_and_folder_diag/

    Method 2:

Try to put your computer in a clean boot state, and check to see if the same problem happens.

By setting your boot system minimum state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startup mode.

Follow these steps to reset the computer to start as usual:

    (a) click on start toreduce this top that i, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box and press ENTER.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click continue.

    (b) under the general tab, click the Normal startup option, and then click OK.

    (c) when you are prompted to restart the computer, click restart.

    Method 3:

Also scan your computer from the Microsoft Security Scanner, which would help us to get rid of viruses, spyware and other malicious software.

The Microsoft Security Scanner is a downloadable security tool for free which allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malware. It works with your current antivirus software.

    http://www.Microsoft.com/security/scanner/en-us/default.aspx

Note: The Microsoft Safety Scanner ends 10 days after being downloaded. To restart a scan with the latest definitions of anti-malware, download and run the Microsoft Safety Scanner again

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

    Hope this information is useful.

    Hello najoua Kumar,.

Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing and will certainly help you in the right direction to solve the problem. However, I would be grateful if you could answer a few questions to refine the question in order to provide you with better assistance.

    1. You did it all change important before the show?
    2. Do you receive an error message/code when opening that file zipped?
    3. You are connected with an account administrator or standard?

If so what opening zipped folder file explore crashes while there might be a chance that some system files are missing or your computer may be affected by some virus/malware. I suggest you to try the methods provided below and see if it helps you to solve the problem.

    Method 1

I suggest that you start the computer in safe mode and see are you able to login in safe mode or not. You can see the article mentioned below to start the computer in safe mode.

Start settings for Windows (including safe mode)

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/Windows-startup-settings-safe-mode

If your computer works fine in safe mode and it is not get crashed, I suggest you perform the clean boot.

Put your system to the clean boot state helps determine if third-party applications or startup items are causing the problem. You must follow the steps in the article mentioned below to perform a clean boot.

How to perform a clean boot in Windows

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929135/en-us

Note: refer to "How to reset the computer to start normally after a boot minimum troubleshooting" to prepare the computer to start as usual after a repair.

    Method 2

If the problem persists, I suggest you to check the system files are they work very well or not and to check who are trying to run the (SFC) System File Checker tool.

Scan SFC will be scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows 8.

    1. Press Windows key and X at the same time.

    2. Choose line (Admin) command on the shortcut menu.

    3. At the command prompt, type sfc/scannow and press ENTER.

    4. Exit the command prompt.

    Method 3

I suggest you to run security software and check if your system is affected by viruses.

The Microsoft Safety Scanner free is a downloadable security tool that allows analysis at the application and helps remove viruses, spyware and other malicious software. It works with your current antivirus software.

Note: The data files that are infected must be cleaned only by removing the file completely, which means that there is a risk of data loss.

Hope it would help. If problem persists always post back with the current state of your computer and the result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to help you.

Yes, easy to replace the HARD drive.
It takes a HARD drive 2.5 SATA for this laptop.

But I recommend that you check the first HARD disk using a tool called Drive Fitness Test... Use google to get this software
