False alarm critical of Apple - scam or virus?

A couple of days, while browsingthem web (English version of the German company important and trustworthy), I received a popup alert indicating «Safari alert, your iPad is locked for your protection on 0808 148 3688 Apple support call»

I had my son get number of Apple on his mobile and realized, he had nothing to do with the above number. As the IPad has been frozen, I made a forced following the stop which made a soft reset not reset the Wi - Fi connection but do not wipe all personal data and after that pop up to disappeared. My camera is a non supported Gen. 1 iPad iOS 5.1.1. My question is how can I tell if my iPad has a virus or is it safe to use?  Also, I guess due to being not supported its my Apple call pointless? All advice appreciated - other that tell me to buy an IPad update that unfortunately I can't afford (that's a first use since the problem occurred)

This popup will always be a scam. See below.

  • False alarms

    Running the trial of vFoglight and very impressed so far.
    However, we are still getting false alarms such as:

    • Machine virtual xxx has recently been turned off. This rule detects a VM is turned off or paused.
    • Logical drive C:\ on machine virtual xxx was 5.81% available and full of 94.19%. This rule is triggered when the use of the disk reaches less than 5% of the full.

    Even if we recognize and disable the alarm, it reappears. In the latter case we offer more space, so the alarm is not applicable.

    Any ideas how to fix?

    Hello infra1234,
    Question #1 it is a groovy script that will fix it if there is no virtual machines for which you get alarms
    Rule question #2 pulled the alarm can be twisted, but would need to take a look at your environment
    My suggestion would be to open a support case.

  • Received a flashing alarm indicating that I had a virus on my MacBook pro.  Could not get rid of it, until I did a hard reboot.  Deemed scan of Malware for Mac software?  All this experience?

    I just got an alarm flashing indicating that I had a virus on my MacBook pro.  Could not get rid of it, until I did a hard reboot.  Deemed scan of Malware for Mac software?  All this experience?

    These alarms are generally scam popups loaded from the Internet and is not caused by malicious software, but you should always look for other odd behavior or unexplained slowness.

  • KOOBFACE IS FALSE ALARM OF IT?

    I WAS WORKING ON A NEW LAPTOP OS X YOSEMITE WHEN BELLS AND WHISTLES EXPLODED, THE WINDOW POPS UP SAYING THAT I HAD BEEN HACKED AND CALL APPLE AT # GIVEN. IT DIDN'T SOUND RIGHT, BUT ULTIMATELY, I CALLED. AFTER I LET HIM SHARE THE SCREEN "" RESCUE", HE FOUND MALWARE CALLED KOOBFACE AND STARTED A DOWNLOAD THAT WOULD OPEN IMMEDIATELY. BUT THEN HE WANTED MONEY $199 FOR A YEAR'S WARRANTY, OR $399 FOR PERMANENT WARRANTY.

    HE HAD STRONG ACCENT AND I COULD HEAR IN THE BACKGROUND. I DON'T HIM DID NOT TRUST AND WAS AFRAID BECAUSE HE WAS IN MY COMPUTER DUE TO 'RESCUE '... IS MORE, THINK IT WAS APPLE, SO I JUST SHUT DOWN THE COMPUTER AND CHANGED MY PASSWORDS ON ANOTHER LAPTOP, THE ONE I USE NOW.

    IT WAS LEGITIMATE AND I MESSED UP? OR WAS IT A SCAM AND A PERSON REALLY ME HACKED AND CAN ACCESS EVERYTHING ON ALL MY COMPUTERS, INCLUDING THIS ONE AND A DESKTOP COMPUTER?

  • Is there an alarm sound on Apple Watch?

    Is there a way to set an alarm on the watch so that it can be charged on my nightstand and always wake me up? Otherwise, the 3rd party applications which would accomplish that?

    Hello

    Apple Watch can be placed bedside table, allowing you to use your watch as next to the clock with optional alarm mode:

    • Make sure the option is turned on: on your iPhone, in the application of the watch, go to My Watch (tab) > General > scroll mode bedside table.
    • Connect your watch to its charger (with power connected) or connect it to a magnetic charging Dock Apple Watch:
      • Place your watch on the side with the buttons facing up.
    • To see the time, tap the screen or slightly shift your watch:
      • By design, when the watch is in this mode, pushing even your bedside table may be sufficient.
    • If you also set an alarm with the alarm clock app on your watch, it will warn you at the specified time.

  • False alarm "system safety at risk".

    My wife has just started to download a update of Flash Player for his MBP and stopped when she realized that they wanted to change a lot of settings, such as the browser by default, etc..  She received a message asking if she didn't know she wanted to leave the page as well as a scary message (see screen capture below).

    I called the number in the message and it did not Support Mac.  I recognized the voice as being a man with a foreign accent, telling me that I have a serious malfunction in my computer it will help to set. It sounded like a very long call remote.  I realized that it is a scam and that he hung up.

    All this experience?  I had to call my phone at home several times telling me that they were aware of a computer problem and that they would like to help me solve it.  They need access to my computer to do.  Of course, that don't give them not only access.  I get the these calls one or two times a month.

    If someone else gets one of these messages.  Ignore it.   Or, call Apple and ask them to check it out.  But it's not Apple.

    Yes, this is a known scam. I hope that you do not allow access to any information on your Mac. Ignore it or report it to http://www.apple.com/feedback/

  • SCAM or Virus posing as Dell SupportAssist?

    This morning I had a popup indicating that it is Dell SupportAssist, with an "alert" that there was a problem with my PC. I did a quick check on the WEB that SupportAssist is a legitimate and observed program ago installed (or updated) 2 days, on the assumption of an automatic update of Dell.

    To continue, the program asked me to confirm ownership by logging into my account of Dell. After that, he asked my name, phone and email to help me with my alert.  Is this normal configured for this tool? Although suspicious, I have provided the information, which seems to hang when I tried to continue.

    Now concerned, I started manually SupportAssist, noting that a different interface. I've killed the previous pop-up and changed my password from Dell with a slight hope that I was in time to prevent any spoofing, etc.. I did a scan with SupportAssist and no problems were detected. I ran my anti-virus, but no problems were detected.

    The above behavior is normal for Dell SupportAssist? Y at - there no virus known (and how to remove) that appears like this Dell software? I have a XPS 12.

    Concerned...

    After the above, I got a Dell legitimate email thanking me to set up my Dell account. Although I opened it a long time ago, the address information has been significantly exceeded, it seems that this alert was simply to ensure that my personal account information has been updated and complete.

    While I've heard of scams that ask for personal information and access to your computer, as well as a charge subsequent to solve this problem, the species seems to be legitimate. While SupportAssist looks like it might be useful, it bothered me that has been installed and executed without my consent. It would have been better for Dell to send an email explaining and offering of novelty, so it wouldn't be a surprise.

  • Scam phone virus

    The scam reported in the 2012 forum is still ongoing. I get 4-5 a week phone calls telling me to go to the event viewer and look at things, and then type a random URL in my box of Run. The first time I started to follow their directions, and, noting that it was a scam, I reset my computer. But it has happened since then.

    In addition to my name, number, personal information, Dell serial number, express service code, and date of purchase, this guy could tell me as MY HISTORY of COMPLAINT. He could tell me the questions I had when I had specifically called Dell in the past.

    This is ridiculous. The calls come from lots of different numbers to all sites. Worse still, they often come now a hidden private number!

    I was already too disappointed by the Dell customer service as they failed to repeatedly fix the problem of my computer, and then for the last 9 months I have received these scam calls.

    Needless to say, I don't see purchases from Dell in my future. In fact, I enjoy to tell every person I can how horrible my experience was.

    Thank you contact us on the Dell Community Forum customer protection Office regarding unsolicited calls claiming to be from Dell Technical Support. This is currently a vast problem of the industry and affect other well-known companies, including Microsoft, Apple, and in a variation of this scheme, the IRS. We recommend that customers immediately hang up and call Dell if they have the slightest doubt that a call offering support is legitimate.

    We are actively investigating these reports and that it is easier when customers contact us. We have implemented a process allowing customers to report this type of technical support phone scam to https://marketing.dell.com/reportscams. Customers can find phone and Web support options at: www.dell.com/support. Additional information is available about Scammers posing as the Dell Technical Support, and a comment about it is on our Dell business blog...

    Thank you for your participation in our efforts to follow these crooks.

    Sincerely,
    Lorna

  • False alarm

    I have a rule created the CPU usage %. Occasionally, I'll get a 'Normal' message and the figures will show the % CPU: 92.77. This is not normal and would generally fall within the critical range. I don't get the critical messages however. I don't always get these false emails. most of the time I am alerted with the right message. I have my behavior to "Action of fire if 20 consecutive assessments are met". Has anyone seen this kind of behavior? I'm curious to know how to fix this.

    Thank you

    The behaior you describe (report of the normal state on the last assessment which is guard/criticism/fatal) is not the way it is suppsed to behave, my recommendatino is trying to open a support case and see if can get to the bottom of this.

    It is true that most (if not all) rules do not have action on the back to normal because that will generate a large number of notifications to the administrator mailbox on things that are not usable.

  • Scam or virus masquerading as Flash Update!

    " Any other person with a 'bona fide' looking for Adobe Flash update see the Web page to the top with a separate window to download UI claiming to be Adobe Flash, BUT the said Web site address bar: ' https://ziejaweleda.org/9903093391632/9903093391632/146161208081479/flashplayer.exe " ??  Just at the beginning today, but I think that it already happened once too.

    I find this VERY ALARMANT! It replaced a weather Wunderground page while I was away from the computer for a few hours.  Fortunately, I didn't just assume it was legitimate, so I do not click it.  WTH is happening?  I'm sure Adobe would like to know if a hacker uses their 'look' to install shtuff nasty on the client PC to!

    BUT... If ziejaweleda.org IS Adobe under a different name for some CRAZY reason WE DEVRIONS KNOWLEDGE!  AND... you ignorant posters requiring to CHOOSE a COMMUNITY when there is NO Flash and security no. or any adequate category!  Wasted my time trying to help you, Adobe!

    You posted in the Acrobat security forum, why not Flash Player forum?

    But chances are that it is a scam. If it appeared when you visited a legitimate site opportunities are

    * the site is hacked

    * It is advertising on the site for hack

    * your machine is compromised to provide faulty pages

    Google Chrome refuses to visit this site, saying that it has been reported as dangerous. Unfortunately, copying a good site web and attached to reliable brands are favorite Stunt a hacker. Adobe rarely have the power to close these things, they are usually in a distant part of the world with different laws. To get the software, if you are told that you need, ignore a popup and go to the original source (here http://get.adobe.com/flash ).

  • False alarm: the compiler bug?

    This happens with CVI 2010 SP1.

    Compiling this code, I get "WARNING: Conversion from '__int64' to 'long' could lose data... ' on the 'z = y' line.

    However, the generated code works perfectly, to a quick test.

    #define B 0x00000001
    #define C 0x00000002

        switch(x & MASK) {
            case A: y=0; break;
            case B: y=1; break;
            case C: y=2; break;
            case D: y=3; break;
        }
        z = y;
    }

    I will be happy if someone can confirm this behavior.

    Thank you

    At first glance, the warning seems to be false. The conversion from __int64 to long don't actually takes place. Instead, case expressions are converted long __int64. The behavior of the switch statement seems correct and therefore the warning can be ignored.

    We have not yet investigated the cause of this error, but you can follow the matter with bug ID 363456. In the meantime, it would be more prudent to ensure that your switch expression and case expressions are of the same type where we have not fully defined errors.
