False Virus Warning?

I received a "phone (land line) of a person puporting to be from Microsoft and telling me that a new virus had appeared." It was an Indian or Pakistani accent that I could barely understand. The main thing is that I should get on my computer and they would talk me through removing. I explained to him that my computer was just two months, plus I had the latest McAFEE Anti virus software loaded up, but he kept insisting that McAFEE has been usless against this virus and that he should be able to speak to me through the removal of the virus. My PC is working normally and if my PC already has a factory installed on the program to activate the virus removel, then why would I need Mc MCAFEE or any other anti-virus software? It says NOTHING to go to the Microsoft web site to download updates or anything like that, in any case, after a few line seemed to go dead and nobody rang me back. Do you know such a virus or do you think it was a scam to take control of my Pc?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

No problem.

  • Removed Artemis and false virus alerts, now no rundll32.exe

I use Windows XP Home edition. For the past 2 days, I was receiving false alerts "XP Security Services" that my computer has been attacked. I used Stinger from McAfee and removed the fake alert virus and the virus of Artemis. However, now I have no rundll32.exe. I can't access MS Office, paint, and it does not recognize my CD/DVD drive. I don't have a Windows XP disk, the PC was already installed with it when I bought it. Any help would be appreciated.

    Follow the instructions below.

Click on the link below. Download the rundll32 file (uploaded by me if it's safer). Save the file to your desktop. Right-click on the file and choose copy. Now click on start > run > paste the following command. c:\Windows\System32 > Ok. When the folder opens, you see a message that these files are hidden. In the left pane, click on the link to view the contents of this folder, as shown in the image on the second link below. Once the content is visible, right-click in the free space in the system32 folder and choose Paste. If you are prompted to replace an existing file, click Yes. Close all windows.

Click on start > run > type cmd > Ok. On the command line, right click and paste the following code exefile = assoc.exe > press ENTER. Close command prompt. Now try to open any executable file (a game or any application). Be advised, the file download will expire after 3 days. This is the result of the use of the free version of filemail.com.

  • False virus for AVG problems

I had a virus AVG 'false '.  He resumed and me locked out all my programs (except it would allow me to open a browser because he wanted me to go to his site and 'buy' his removal program).  I don't have that.  After fruitless attempts to remove it otherwise, I rebooted in safe mode and restore my computer to a configuration earlier and restarted in normal mode.  My computer seems to agree and operates fully in all abilities - I thought that fixed the problem - EXCEPT now I can't open and run moy.  She is turned 'off' and does not allow me to 'works '.  I tried to download other programs such as Spybot, Viper, Malwarebytes anti virus.  I'm coming to the party 'run program' installation and nothing more happens.  Someone told me that I have to go into my registry and remove the H_Keys virus, but I (1) do not know how to and (2) not sure if that will fix the problem.  Again, my computer works very well and all the pop ups virus telling me that I got the virus has disappeared, but I'm uncomfortable, internet connection not knowing if it's really gone and do not have a security against new viruses.  HELP PLEASE...

This is false. They want you to install their App same scam see you on pc.  A web site will not be able to tell if you have a virus.

Unless you have rooted your phone, it is unlikely to get a virus. I would not visit this new site if.

I see the Trojan warning: JS:Illredir - B [Trj] avast

My guess is that someone running avast av will see it.  I don't know if it's a warning wrong or not, but even if this is the case, you have a problem with your avast users until avast corrects the error.

  • Virus warning with BIOS download update on the Lenovo site

I received the following message from our web filter when you download a utility to update the BIOS for my Lenovo X 61 Tablet.  I could not find anywhere to report and will not use this update unless I hear otherwise.  I'll give you the information contained in the message and the place where I downloaded it:

This email is of Barracuda Web filter. We have detected and blocked the download of: VIRUS BACK. Junkie-1

    of the server:download.lenovo.com

    with the URL of:http://download.lenovo.com/ibmdl/pub/pc/pccbbs/mobiles/7suj18uc.iso

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?docid=DS013881

This download has been for the BIOS update CD.

I also analyzed the file and use of Symantec Corporate AV and AVG and found no problem.  There were no other activity or problem which points to danger.  The only indication that created any concern is the report that we received this Barracuda web filter.  I think I'll pass this information on to them.  Otherwise, I think we can consider this non-issue and this thread can be closed.  Thank you for your attention.

  • Have you released a update of security/stability for 34.0.5; or is it a virus trap?

I'm on 34.0.5. When I launch Firefox, I get a popup window which is doing me install a Firefox stability and security update (screenshot attached). If I select more information, it must be just me to: https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/35.0/releasenotes/ . If I select install, I get a virus warning showing that bloatware will be installed if I continue.

As you can see your link Firefox 35.0 corresponds to the current and it came out last Tuesday January 13.

Firefox from mozilla.org does not come with any virus. Some antivirus clients were still false positives with the stub installer even if it has existed since 18.0 Firefox but not with the full installer on Windows.
