What is the unit allocation size that is displayed in the window to format usb

    Hi Moaz,

Thanks for posting your question in the Microsoft Community.

I understand that you want to know the unit allocation size that is displayed in the format USB window. Correct me if I'm wrong.

I will certainly help the question of fixing.

In computer file systems, a cluster is the unit of allocation of disk space for files and directories. To reduce the load of the management of data on disk structures, the file system allocates no individual disk sectors, but contiguous groups of sectors, called clusters.

On a disk that uses 512-byte sectors, a 512-byte cluster contains one sector, whereas a 4-Kibibyte (KiB) contains eight sectors.

Refer to the below mentioned article and see if it provides information that you are looking for.

  • I have more than one partition on my hard drive, how to create a shortcut to a particular drive from the desktop?

I fitted with a 1 TB drive to my macbook, then partitioned several times, all good so far, everything works.

I use two connections, staff and work. My 'work' connection I have one partitioned drive named "work" which I use as an archive / storage for all work related data, far from any current activity. How to create a shortcut for just this partition to 'work' on the desktop?

I tried Finder > Preferences > general - show these items on the desktop, hard drives of ticks. But it shows then all partitioned drives.

The partitions must be included in the side bar of the Finder to choose. You can also click with the right button on a volume and select 'add to dock '. I don't know how to add an alias on the desktop.

  • Time Machine can't see NAS to format / partitioned in El Capitan

We have two MacBook Pro and 4 car TB WD MyBook attached to our wireless router. This disk is partitioned and used for Time Machine backups. We did not have problems with this configuration, up to yesterday, that we decided to format the disk and repartition it. We did it with my MacBook Pro which is running El Capitan (10.11.3) and the newer disk utility program. I plugged the drive locally on the laptop and he came back and said that through fine form/partitioning layout. However, I moved to the router as a NAS and went to setup Time Machine... Time Machine could not see the player. I could map the drive and write to her through 'connect to server... ". "without any problem. Even tried the thing to "map the drive on the desktop" to make it appear on the list of drives available in Time Machine. Nothing worked! I thought something may had been bad installation, or gone bad, partitioning and started... always the same results. The third time, I decided to use MacBook Pro my wife who still works Yosemite with the old "Disk Utility" program on this subject. I went through and formatted/partitioned it the same as before. However, when I hooked up like the SIN this time and the mapped drive he appeared right on Time Machine just as it should have the first time.

Is there a problem with Time Machine, find readers NAS to format / partitioned in El Capitan? Is there a setting that needs to be changed in the new "Disk Utility" program to make it work? I'm a bit of a loss here...

The router cannot possibly recognize a drive formatted by OS X. It uses an operating system that is totally foreign.

A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of Netatalk incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

  • Will there be repercussions to Program Files on one partition other than the operating system of the installation?

Will there be repercussions to Program Files on one partition other than the operating system of the installation?  Most if not all the software packages allow to customize the installation.  I had an experience with OFFICE 2013 and this allowed me to install on a separate partition.  After installation, I checked the menu START was 2013 OFFICE & I was able to launch PwrPt without complications.

My motivation for doing this is that I have several versions of LabView which occupies the huge disk space.  So if I can separate the backup image of my OS program files is greatly reduced in size.  This allows me to record several images of my OS by dates without needlessly chewing my external hard drive.

Anyone know this & if yes are there complications or questions?

    Appreciate any feedback

  • Format USB

Message appears "windows couldn't complete the format". Also "the disk in drive 'H' can not be formatted. In disk management it says "Basic, file in page - Partition setting, Type - blank, status-healthy, capacity & Free Space - #.73 Gb, fault tolerance - No. also other readers I insert I have given, and I don't want to reformat, came up with the same message." Ports support my modem to broadband and also plug a mouse. I'm running out of patience. All information will be gladly accepted.

    Hello

By default, Windows offers the option to format a USB drive with FAT or FAT32 filesystem only, but not with NTFS (New TechnologyFileSystem.)

The reason behind this is that there are a few disadvantages of NTFS usage in this case. First of all, the recording on flash drive speed decreases (but the speed of reading the data on the disc is the same), and be more careful to always remove the USB flash drive safely.

However, you can still format the Flash drive to NTFS. Follow these steps for the same.

    1. Insert the USB key into the USB port.

    2. click on Start, type devmgmt.msc in the search text box and press enter.

    3. find hard drives and expand it.

    4. find the USB flash drive you want to format, and then double-click it. He opens the Properties dialog box.

    5. click on the policies tab.

    6. by default, the optimize for quick removal option selected, go to the option optimize for performanceand then pressOK.

    7. now, open computerRight click on the USB Flash drive and select Format. The Format dialog box will now appear.

    8. Select NTFS for file system .

    9. press Start and wait while the process will be completed.

    10. now your USB Flash drive is NTFS format.

    Kind regards

    Chauvet J.

  • FAT corrupted USB not recognized

    I have problems with my rocket GB 8. This morning, while trying to fix my flash drive I accidently deleted the partition off my rocket. Of course, now I'm reeciving 'Fat corrupted' error on my fuse and USB will not recognize. I've searched high and low. I tried to power it in 20 seconds, put the "rocket" on hold, then press on the< rewind="" button="" (and="" center="" buton)="" while="" connecting="" the="" usb="" and="" i="" still="" receive="" the="" usb="" not="" recognized="" in="" windows="" (xp,="" vista="" &="" 7).="" i="" even="" tried="" using="" my="" wife's="" laptop="" with="" vista="" with="" the="" same="" usb="">

Please tell me I didn't have the toast when I messed up the partition! Help!

Finally, after the persistence, I got the computer to recognize the "rocket". Managed to format to FAT32 via Windows without any problem, then via the "rocket". All is well now.

  • How to restrict other users to access a local drive in FAT format in windows 8

I have a windows 8 PC with two hard disk partitions: one is in NTFS and FAT32. I want the FAT32 drive is not not accessible to any other user unless the administrator account. I tried to change the permissions, but ACL is not available for FAT systems. I don't want to format the drive to NTFS. Please suggest a way to deny access to that drive other users, or a way to make the player invisible to users.

    Hi Surya,

You can use BitLocker Drive encryption to protect your files on a disc. BitLocker can help the hacks to access the files on the system, that they rely on to discover your password, or to access your drive by physically removing from your PC and install it in another. You can always connect to Windows and use your files as you normally would.

I suggest you to see the following link for more information on Bit Locker.
    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-8/BitLocker-Drive-encryption

    See also the link: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd875544(v=ws.10).aspx

  • Required file Format of Fat32 Bootcamp partition

    Here's my situation:

I have a Fat32 Bootcamp partition on an iMac and I want to convert it to a Virtual Machine strictly for use on a new Macbook Pro.

When I try to use the converter, I get the error:

"ERROR: could not make a snapshot of a volume of the source." "Possible Causes include not seen all NTFS volumes on Windows XP or Windows 2003 source systems with no is not enough free space on the disk.

I looked in the manual and couldn't find any mention of the file format must be NTFS in order to be converted.

Before I change the file format can someone tell me that my problem is that it is in Fat32

(I'm copying on a Fat32 USB drive with plenty of space)

    Thank you

Converter uses Microsoft's VSS service to create a 'snapshot' of the source that is used for the conversion volumes. This service is present on all systems (windows XP, 2 k 3, starting). For systems prior to this, we use a 3rd instant driver.

VSS requires at least one of the volumes to be NTFS in order to create the snapshot.
